Wow. I'm actually impressed. I thought it would look cool, but it seems to have legit credentials. Body on frame, solid rear axle, gas range extender, ACTUAL BUTTONS AND SWITCHES. As someone into offroading and camping I would really consider one of these. I can't think of another EV truck ticking these boxes.
It gets even better! Scout is quoted to say that "80% of the components on these vehicles are field serviceable". Now obviously it would be nice to know what the non serviceable 20% is BUT it's refreshing to see a company who had that in mind. With ram getting rid of dipsticks and every other brand having a computer chip for everything, scout is looking really legit!!
Well done on the video, show casing both vehicles, I’ve been a scout enthusiast for over 20 yrs and pass it along to my son which has a 1969 model. I was actually scared about the reveal because I did not want to be embarrassed about the brand but scout motors did it right for all enthusiasts and hard core scout lovers. Mixing up the power train is what scout is all about. Well done Scout!!!!!!!! I put an order in as well as my son and his wife did. I am so proud that scout did it right. As a Tesla owner, I was thrown back on all the options, range, the actual look of the scout II, roomy seating, and the specs are out of this world compared to what’s out there. What I love the most, its American made. Well done Scout you truly understand the scout community
I'm 60 so old enough that our family car was an International Travelall, basically International's version of a Suburban. These look really retro. Very nice.
I reserved before the reveal video ended. As soon as they announced the range extender I ran and got my wallet. This is exactly what I wanted out of the bronco but didn't get.
Seems like a really small tank, but I guess I see the appeal if you want to take this thing offroading somewhere really remote where charging infrastructure isn't a thing.
My dads old truck had a bench seat. It’s great if you’re cruising with a dog haha. These designs are insane. Blown away by Scout Traveler. Can’t wait to see someone get one and really customize it. White or black.
Range extender was a very smart decision. That makes this a viable options for more customers. I wish they offered it with round headlights (or square headlights (not four small slots). Interior looks similar to the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to me. Hope they can keep the price at launch. That’s 2 years from now. Lack of a 3rd row is a miss.
I'm an old, really (77) old guy. My interest is centered in the powertrain and transmission. This is my 3rd RUclips Scout "introduction". Tell my sometings about the gas engine and automatic (or standard) transmission. Liked the body on frame, tires, wheels and suspension. The rest is, uh, just lipstick and make up to me.
NO TRAMISSION! The Series Hybrid is only driven by the electric motors. Series Hybrid is the superior power train especially for off roading. A Transmission is just putting lipstick on a pig to fix flaws with combustion engines. 1 Single Reduction Gear is all these need.
Im 13 years your junior Ive been waiting for something like this with an ICE engine gave up invested in a 79 HJ45 landcruiser, 178miles on a rebuilt 2h Diesel turboed every component gone thru. Im sure im gonna miss out on cruising these things around but All I do with my old 4x4 is explore offroad not doing the stupid stuff I did in the 70s/80s and some of the 90s
Best thing about REEV is not only how much it claimed, but also you can carry extra "range" with you in a gas tank. For the BEV you are pretty much done if you are getting closed or if the temperature drops.
Very nice. Of course there’s the obvious “looks like a Rivian but without the goofy lights” aspect to it. But what’s incredibly impressive is that VW is treating Scout like GM did with Saturn when that brand first came around. On the surface, I don’t see any VW parts bin sharing with the switchgear and so on. With a solid axle and body on frame construction, I highly doubt it’s using VW’s MEB platform either. So it’s an autonomous brand from VW, and that may not be a bad thing at all.
I kinda do think they should have kept the round lights like the older ones but over all I really like it I would take the truck with the suv interior color combo and keep the open wood that’s in the truck. And I sooo love the fact that it’s not all electric
Cool video. VW group is hurting right now, so I hope these are big hit. Hopefully, they have a unique personality and are not victims of platform sharing sameness.
The smaller one needs a better spare tire option than taking up all that extra rear space and it didn’t look like they had a rear view camera to judge the distance. Maybe put that behemoth underneath the vehicle and save that tailgate from damage.
It looks great because it's like a Bronco and a Rivian had a baby. Smart for them to offer a range extender. It's still a VW product which is definitely not a good thing.
No it is not. VW is the financial baker for Scout. Scout is a totally new and separate company. Almost entirely Americans, built in SC. So no, it is not VW. VW has been pretty hands off.
This looks absolutely amazing but I’m going to have to lower my expectations since it’s still a concept. That interior would rival even some luxury brands (in uniqueness, not material choice necessarily). Imagine having that multiple color and material choice for seating.
I'm really surprised with the execution of these 'near production' vehicles, in the best way possible! The pricing is the biggest surprise tho, let's hope it remains close to what was mentioned here🤞
It will be a niche product just due to physical existence supply. These will be low annual production models, max around 70,000 units per year. There is no way they can build enough of them to be a mainstream product.
You should have asked the people that made the car a few questions about it before making this video so you could explain a few of the things you pointed out like the “pressure gauge”? In the frunk? You sure thats what that is? Also the c pillar “treatment” there? Its a handle to get up in the truck bed they said that in the reveal
That is some absurd nonsense, Electric Drive Train is the superior option especially for off roading. If you need more range get the Series Hybrid with a gas engine generator. Non electric version would be LAME.
I just canceled my Cybertruck..It is just too much marketing hype. I hope they come up with some simple electric truck. Something simple and reliable with affordable prices.
Wow. This thing is pretty cool. I'm glad they kept solid axles and went with mechanical differentials. Electronic differentials are fairly silly under the idea that you drag the brake when trying to accelerate in a vehicle that's intended to be efficient. Mechanical just makes sense. Plus, body-on-frame is more quiet than unibody. They can mount the cab on rubber isolator blocks and use fairly solid suspension bushings.
35s look like 33s on these new vehicles. It's crazy how bulbous new vehicles are. My 87 4runner is solid axle front and rear and with 35s it looks like it has 40s compared to new trucks.
@@Ride_Runner the offer range extender as an option. So just bring some gas. The extender is a generator... it charges the battery while you drive, with gas.
@arcostonian i understand there are 2 options. If you choose the electric option and you run out of electricity in the outside world. Besides not buying an all electric vehicle in the first place. What do you do?
@@Ride_Runner You don’t take the all electric ones into the middle of nowhere. That’s common sense 101. Most of these will be bought because of looks and only driven in the city anyways.
There is zero rivian in these. Literally zero. These were all designed by Scout. VW, which is not Scout, has a software joint venture with Rivian, software only. Not rivian here at all, zero.
Not to shabby and smart on vw for adding a range extender
Direct Sales and built in the US while creating Jobs. Love it.
So good looking. Love the retro touches.

Glad some sort of combustion motor is involved.
Sort of, yes. Range extender EVs utilize the small engine just to charge the battery. They don't drive the wheels.
Normal ICE suck
Hybrids/electrics are better
@@fastmatt30 Ok yeah 🤣, you must be confused about your gender too
Love it. It looks more Bronco like than the newer Broncos 😂
Sharing styling with the Hummer which isn't a bad thing. I like the interior and it looks higher quality than my Bronco.
Nicest interior I've ever seen. Perfect!
Matt with an exclusive review love to see it!!
Love it, having the range extender is very smart. Absolutely nailed the retro look. Can only hope what we see here is what makes it to production.
Woaaahhh... I was not expecting this at all!
These two models seems promising, and nice to see VW/Scout offering a range extender.
They did a smash up job! Go scout!
I reserved before the reveal video ended. As soon as they announced the range extender I ran and got my wallet. This is exactly what I wanted out of the bronco but didn't get.

I wanted a V8 manual Bronco 😅
Love it! Got in my deposit last night.. getting EV and range extender!
That tailgate setup is exactly what I thought Bronco should have done. Also imagine this with a classic V8 how great would that be.
Love to see that Scout is back! Really liking these "smart" designs. Anything seems refreshing compared to the sea of boring Teslas out there.
The pick up looks ALOT like a Rivian, not a bad thing but these are pretty cool and not being 100% EV is a win win📣

What a refreshing design along with incredible materials and textures. Seems like a hit! 👍
Great video Matt! I just reserved a Traveler!
Love the terra
Great vid. tons of detail. Thanks!

Awesome video Matt. I'm a young fella so I don't know much about scout, but looks cool to me.
Range extended was a smart choice and will be the best selling version, other brands take note.
Reserved mine yesterday!
Nice review Matt. I can tell you liked the cars.
Probably the most exciting news in the auto industry in a while. They've done so many things right.
I'm an old, really (77) old guy. My interest is centered in the powertrain and transmission. This is my 3rd RUclips Scout "introduction". No engine, it’s a generator which charges the battery, to extend the battery power.

I would like to see more sidewall on the tires, but maybe they will offer smaller wheels in production.
Sold me with cloth bench seat , real knobs and add able gas. Can’t wait to see these.
Wow cool stuff, competition is always good and these look to be pretty cool right off the bat
The gasoline fueled range extender is a generator. It does not power the drive train. It generates electrical power to extend range. Ingenious.
That’s a cool surprise! Can’t wait for the productions version review. Maybe sitting in the seats will change people’s opinions 😂
These look really cool

OMG. Nice Trucks!! 🎉😁
They look really nice, the Specs are great - now they really need to build it for that price.
For those who want an alternative to a Rivian that actually looks good....plus the range extender will make it a good seller.
Cool video. VW group is hurting right now, so I hope these are big hit. Hopefully, they have a unique personality and are not victims of platform sharing sameness.
I like most things other than the LEDs that circle the grille.
The smaller one needs a better spare tire option than taking up all that extra rear space and it didn’t look like they had a rear view camera to judge the distance. Maybe put that behemoth underneath the vehicle and save that tailgate from damage.
Hmm. You were more enamored with it than I am. And that wait! By the time this is available, there will be other options that will compete.
These look amazing! Impressed. Would love to trade my Telluride for one of these.
You can see the inspiration from Rivian. These are awesome and will have the Rivian software and some tech
Vw going broke but they can make products like this that will sell ! Something stellantis can’t do.
Put a deposit down for the Terra! I currently have a Rivian R1T quad motor and its been my favorite car. Looking forward to the Terra
Range Rover has a split tailgate. BMW shoplifted it from the brand while they owned Range Rover and it has been on the X5 for 25 years now.
Yeah...odd he said no one else has thought of it.
Really nice.Do they just have a gas?Engine or they all electric
All can See is Land Cruiser, Bronco And Land Crusher Prado (J250) and kind of Vehicle is going to sell but depends on iCE/Ev.
Weight is important off roading. How much does it weigh?
Gas tank is up front passenger side. Charge port rear driver side
People like to say that we'll hate on every new car but this shows that's just not the case
Range Extender DETAILS Please: does it kill the frunk or what? What cost and availability?
It looks great because it's like a Bronco and a Rivian had a baby. Smart for them to offer a range extender. It's still a VW product which is definitely not a good thing.

So to get into the back you need to open 3 doors? Hopefully the spare tire mount is removable.
The first bit is the spare tire mount. My 77 scout had a spare tire eack tgat had to be opened before opening the tail gate.
This looks absolutely amazing but I’m going to have to lower my expectations since it’s still a concept. That interior would rival even some luxury brands (in uniqueness, not material choice necessarily). Imagine having that multiple color and material choice for seating.
Major win for VW!
Looks cool. I think these are sold direct to consumers as well. Wish a gas car would come out that was haha
Body on frame solid rear axle EV offroader? Hell yes. Love it.

This is how VW comes back in the US, sell cars without a VW badge.
Wish they’d give us a gas option like an inline 6.
Starts at 60 but as shown will be 85-90 .
Why isn’t there a diesel engine/generator option for range extender?
LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Never heard of them until this vid. Super cool though
any cup holders?

Sweet rides! Why so out of breath though?
Matt good to see you pop up on my feed! Way better than all of the political BS. A breath of fresh air!

@@lionstonylb Correct. I watched the video from TFL and they called it a on board compressor
