- This is a tutorial for how to beat The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in under 3 minutes! It's a really easy glitch, so give it a try!
The video here performs it on a SNES, though I do believe it's possible on Virtual Console as well. It does not seem to be possible on the GBA version, however.

Sorry for the huge delay on the Glitchfest guys, I really do feel bad about it, I promise I'm working on it. Been in a bit of a rut lately so I haven't been able to bring the enthusiasm I like to bring for my videos and I can't bring myself to make a sub-par quality video. I mentioned near the end that I tried this on the GBA. I couldn't get it to work, though I can't confirm if it DOESN'T work. The problem I had was the enemy that you need to hit you through the wall is in a different spot, so I couldn't get it to line up properly. Feel free to try if you want, but don't get your hopes up! (Also, side note, the GBA version has a long unskippable intro cutscene, so even if the glitch works you can't beat the game in under 3 minutes)
Tried this on my SNES Classic Edition, and it worked. The glitch is intact. Like many others on this comment section, I got it without a problem. Suspend Points really help.
Ok how to do this glitch on the gba is you have to have the magic mirror and you need to have access to the thieves hideout in dark kakariko village. Here are the steps.
1. Enter the thieves hide out and walk to the ledge.
2. Jump off the ledge and hit the mirror at the same time. This is tricky and i think frame perfect.
3. After the mirror effects ware off turn left and use the pegasus boots to dash and crash into the wall left of the right. After this you will fall through the floor and be able to roam. I used this glich to get into the temple of the four sword.
Edit: if you try this at least on the snes classic link will start moving up the room without input. After reaching a wall or a door he will go through dissapear for a moment then begin rising from the bottom of the screen once more. After one cycle of this your game will freeze leaving with only imputs that dont effect link ie. Opening your items menue, opening the map, and saving the game and quiting. After saving and quiting and after jumping off of a ledge my link was stuck underneath the floor making invulnerable and untargetable but obstacles will still impede movement . I think you can complete the game like this because i was able to jump to the light world after moving under ground

I was surprisingly able to do this on my first try on the SNES Classic
Well it is a emulation of the original and almost completely unmodified (some flashing scenes have been slowed down in most games that have flashing for both the nes classic and and snes classic) so most if not all bugs And glitches will still work (based on the latest American revision for both America, Australia and presumably Europe based on the latest Japanese revision for the Japanese version of the console)

It's a pretty common glitch to see in speed runs, it's an old glitch which I take no credit for discovering, I'm just laying it out in a tutorial format so others can easily follow along. :)

This is a ROM though there are videos of it being performed on actual SNES hardware on Zeldaspeedruns. Speed running with this glitch has its own category, most categories don't allow it.

That's alright, it takes a bit of practice (and a little luck with enemy placement) I believe the record on the US version with this method is 2:53 or 2:54, somewhere around there. The fastest period is 1:41, but that uses a different method that is incredibly complicated and would not be easy to replicate, so I decided to use this method for the tutorial since it's one people would easily be able to do themselves.
Cool glitch. I spent an entire summer as a kid trying to beat this game and figure out some of the cryptic stuff in it. Nintendo Power was my friend sometimes.
This video is 9yrs old and with the even more rise of youtube, the glitch community has grown even bigger since then. Good to see the OG vids!

It's a pretty simple glitch, something about saving mid-air makes it so if you're hit near a wall you fall down a layer, beneath the world, then you simply walk to the end cutscene trigger which just happens to be in the same castle, just by the games design.
AND YOU STILL GET THE FRUIT BACK

It's raining in the end sequence, and the sanctuary is glitching, and the end credits shifted from red background to green all while still raining.
While what you're saying is factually true for the most part, it's not necessarily negative. Glitches are commonly found by a large number of people and very often on accident. Though, if I personally discover a glitch I will show that too as I do for a glitch in Nuts & Bolts. The point is not just to show old glitches, but explain them better so people can do them themselves, make it entertaining, and explore them more in depth than may be easy to find online.
What happens if you walk to the left when you find Ganon? Enter bounds, start the fight vs Ganon? What happens if you save the game and reload in Ganon's room? What happens what happens? So many questions!
get an emulator and try it out :3

I don't know the technical side of things, but basically save while in midair allows for the glitch where getting hit puts you down a level. My guess is that you save in the air, while the game is waiting to put 'Link' from the 2nd floor down to the 1st floor, then because you save/quit, he's stuck in a transition period. Then, getting hit triggers it and puts you down a floor.

I did this glitch many times and succeeded every time.
I would like to state that it works on Virtual Console. It's actually easier to do the glitch in Zelda's prison room down in the holding prison. You can even bring Zelda along if you like if you do the jump midair save game with her. Just go back to the prison room and head straight up for a while and when you can't go up go left a screen until you hit the ganon room and just do what the video said from there.

This game took me about 1 1/2 years to complete as a 6 y/o in 95... Watching this makes me depressed lmao. I played it recently and it took me about 4 days. What an amazing game!

Same, I continue to embarrass my younger self when ever I replay these games. Parts of these games that seemed so hard are just simple puzzles. The growth of the human brain is astounding.

You can also see the prototypes for bosses and such, like if you go south west multiple times, you can find trinexx, and a lot of his forms that do and don't work. You also can find pieces of him, like his legs standing there by themselves.
As mentioned in the video I tried in the GBA version and couldn't get it to work, not sure if it's impossible or not. Keep in mind the GBA has a really long intro cutscene though so even if it did work it wouldn't be under 3 minutes.

Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda, actually! I'll do a Wind Waker episode of Glitchfest eventually, but not for a looong while because new stuff is still constantly being discovered for that game, I want to give it time to settle down.

If you mess around while out of bounds, you can find some interesting stuff. For example, if you go left after Ganon appears, you'll find another ganon room. It will even trigger Ganon's dialogue
He is right. This glitches very easy to do but also very fun. You can literary explore the entire map.
Yeah, I try to :) hopefully people still find it easy to follow. I cut through stuff like getting to the castle very quickly, because it's literally exactly the same as a casual playthrough.

People spend ridiculous amounts of time playing these games and many are well experienced in finding glitches in other video games, so they use similar techniques or just plain dumb luck to find glitches in other games and then they turn around and use them in speedruns and such which is awesome ^_^ It's like getting to play as Master Hand in Super Smash Bros, it took over 10 years or so for that hidden glitch to be found but eventually it finally was.
It's both, actually. It's a play on words, where you "link" with the past, yet at the same time you ARE Link. Very clever name, when you think about it!

I tried this bit missed the first couple turns. I kept going up and achieved the same results, but I encountered Ganon in his final form however he couldn't touch me as my character Link was hidden (glitched), I kept going up and triggered the ending. What a cool trick! This was done on my SNES Classic.

I watched this video as a kid nearly a decade ago, and last night I was on my switch and realized Link to the Past was on virtual console, and it activated the neuron containing this memory like a Manchurian Candidate-style code word so I then proceeded to successfully perform this glitch again from memory. Do with that information what you will.
