This is fascinating from a programming perspective, stuff like this should be taught in classes, ie, prompt students to theorize on the cause of various glitches in famous games.
I think the newer games are more broken because... Since the newer games have more game mechanics, and have more features to the older ones, there are more problems in those small fragments of the game mechanics, and that is being combined with the old mechanics that already exist, so overall, that does pile up, and causes more glitches.
You should mention that if you use the middle pipe instead of the first pipe (the first pipe being the Minus-World Pipe of course) you end up in World 5. It could be useful for some people who want to get to world 5 really quickly. This is due to the fact that you are not loding the normal warpzones that should spawn there but rather the underground warpzone in World 4-2. Usually there is only the pipe in the middle that brings you to world 5 but due to the game loading the data wrong, you can access the two pipes that would actually be blank spaces (Hex 36 as you said yourself). Usually these pipes are not accessable in 4-2 because of the blank space, but here, you can trick the game into letting you access the blank space pipe. I believe it was because of the little animation with the piranaplants popping out (for the record, these plants will not hurt you if you touch them. Just another interesting thing) the game hasn't actually loaded the warpzone fully yet but the pipes actually have text over them already, it is just a blank space. It also starts with the warpzone data of 4-2 (don't ask me why) for the pipe warps. There is a trigger that hasn't been activated yet because you didn't go through the top like you should in a normal case and that causes the game to behave this way. If you walk to the end of the screen, the trigger activates and the warpzone is loaded proper. If you try to get into the 3rd pipe (which is possible, you just need to be very careful not to walk too far to the right) you also end up in the Minus-World. Like I said, it loads the warps for 4-2, but you are able to use the pipes that are not accessable in 4-2 so you end up in the world corresponding to hex 36, which is a blank space because well, these worlds are blanks.
Tyler The Fighter 24 I've seen some glitches in SM64, like the Death corner where you go to an area ontop of the castle and climb up, you die for no apparent reason.
1:40 for those wondering, this is due to the NES being based on a 8 bit processor, which can hold up to 256 values, between 0 and 255. So, I assume that when the koopa goes below 0, its vertical position overflows to 255 and down xD. This is the reason for why Super Mario Bros. does feature only horizontal-scrolling levels. And why this doesn't happen to the horizontal axis? Because more memory is used to store values, and I think, as a programmer, 2 bytes would be enough for SMB :D. 4:22 the reason is that most likely developers used ASCII, so at the character position #36, which should be the $ (dollar), there is nothing.
3D world seems glitchier. Here is a few Glitchfest Suggestions 1. Spyro franchise, Spyro The Dragon 1- A Hero's Tale! 2. Sonic '06 Yes, I went there. Its got glitchy fun. 3. Pokémon red, blue, gold, silver, and crystal! 4. Megaman! 5. Crash Bandicoot! And that's all I can think of for now.
It depends on what version of Super Mario Bros.Like JWittz told in a video, the japaneze NES (Famicom) has a worse anti-pyracy and has glitchier worlds.
I see it all the time, and I'd really like to correct it.. For the Minus World glitch, going through the wall. You DO NOT need to break that one block on top if you're using the crouch backwards jump method. Breaking the block is only required for the other method where you don't crouch. (The non-crouching one is similar, but you have to glitch through the single roof block on the right that you didn't break, and then through the wall like normal. The crouch method is usually easier.) Breaking that single roof block does literally nothing if you're using the crouch-jump method. It's not a huge deal or anything. It's just, every single time I hear the crouch-jump method of getting to the Minus World, it ALWAYS involves breaking that one block even through it doesn't do anything.
I still consider Super Mario as one of the best video game franchise of all, if not the best. Yes, better than CoD, Assassin's Creed (which I still love) or movie games like Heavy Rain. Mario is pure skill and fun. It also has a great atmosphere and lovable characters.
1:16 Toad must be thinking "Where the hell is Mario? Bowser was defeated but he's not here like he's supposed to be. Oh well, better just say what I always do anyways."
I remember jumping over a damn flag pole by accident when I still were a little boy. Can't recall how I managed that though, it was pure luck. People probably won't believe that anyways but I know I did that once.
Rudy Massey It's said that the heaven is a city made of clouds, where spirits will go. I was referring that Peach is dead too, and got into other cloud in the heaven
I love how there's a set of glitches used by speed runners of this game that aren't even mentioned (with the exception of the walk through walls glitch, kinda) and it takes top level speed runners less than the length of this video to pull em all off and beat the game
Considering I encountered a lot of glitches even in gigantic budget games like The Last Of Us, I guess you're right, also Bishock on the PS3 was almost embarassing sometimes
***** i found a glitch in GTA V. if you have the fast run cheat enabled (and probably moon gravity) then run up something, after it ends you will still be running until you fall
+bobafett177 I'm going to guess that the fire flower only changes the color palette of the sprite, not the actual sprite itself, so the small fire Mario was achieved without any extra images.
+bobafett177 It's because one of the starman frames looks like Fire Mario, so basically it uses that frame of the starman animation when you're small *EDIT* I was wrong.
Calling either one of these games "broken" is insane. A broken game is one which the game play is extremely reduced by lots of glitches, to the point which you just can't play the game in a sitting. That doesn't happen at all in these games.
***** And Sonic 06 of course had NOTHING to do with SEGA wanting to put out a Sonic game on Sonic's 15th anniversary instead of releasing 06 a year and a half later, when the game was expected to be completed. The blame goes completely to the fans, obviously.
One time in Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, I reached a castle I couldn't beat. I did the infinite 1-up trick prior to reaching the castle so I didn't have to worry about a game over for a while. At some point, I accidentally clipped through a wall and jump up to the top of the level. There was no going back down. I was crazy happy for having done such a glitch. I reached the end and couldn't go down to get the ax. The time ran out and I got that game over for the trillionth time!
Jump on the koopa, jump on it again, go over the flagpole, find a hidden pit 255255255255255255255 blocks away via hacking the time limit so it doesn't exist, do some stuff in there, survive, jump on the flagpole, save Peach, go to another galaxy, defeat Bowser, kiss Peach... and you STILL get the fruit back! Sorry.
I saw my friend trigger the last glitch (stuck in the wall swimming) back in '86 when we were 7 years old. That's probably the first game glitch we ever saw.
That's amazing. Years ago when I first started programming I tried making a Mario clone and my coding had the exact same glitch where if you got stuck into a wall and turned around you would slide backwards through the walls.
OMG That last glitch was SOOOO awesome! Head = asplode Just trolling. XD Anyway, it's also possible to get over the flagpole on world 2-1 if you time your jump just right. They designed that "staircase" that way for a reason. They might have wanted to add something BEYOND the flagpole, but ran out of time, so they released the game as-is.
the minus world depends on what you're using as a console. if it's Famicom instead of SNES, it will load a 3-staged beatable world with visual oddities (including Peach's sprite twice in a level)
I remember jumping the flagpole in lvl 1-1 and there was a giant brick wall stopping you after a while of running. If you then used the game geni, you could jump this wall but then you entered the no end zone.
Super Mario Bros on the Famicom seems a bit more broken than either the NES version or SM3DW on Wii U, imo. Some older games can basically be reprogrammed by doing different glitches. Being able to spawn hundreds of different minus worlds in the Famicom version is pretty crazy. A lot of them look like Super Mario Maker levels where different enemies and palettes are mixed together (like -3 with bloopers floating in air).
In the first glitch the game is confused, switching things around. It knows you are small but thinks Mario looks big. So when you get the mushroom, the first thing it comes up with is making Mario small, but Mario is actually big! And when Mario shoots fire, the game is only made for Mario to shoot fire as big mario, so even though it makes Mario look like some kind of small fire Mario version, Mario becomes big every time you shoot a fire ball! XD The second glitch is my favorite, when Mario dies and wins at the same time. The game knows Bowser hit you so you lose, right? But you touched the hammer, so as programmed, you win....but Mario still falls as if he dies!
The minus world glitch happens because the underground 4-2 warp zone is 36 5 36 and same with the 1-2 warp zone if you do the minus world Plus, there are 1024 levels and 256 worlds but without glitches you get 32 levels and 8 worlds.
I was playing the original Super Mario Bros in 1986, and despite it being 16 years too early, I still got the fruit back.

i always thought studying glitches helps you guess how the game is programmed
Those mad bragging rights are tempting though...
I think the newer games are more broken because...
Since the newer games have more game mechanics, and have more features to the older ones, there are more problems in those small fragments of the game mechanics, and that is being combined with the old mechanics that already exist, so overall, that does pile up, and causes more glitches.
yup, I agree: it's like writing something. The more you write, the higher is the probability to make a mistake

This is the best explanation👍👍
Actually it's HEX 24. 36 is DEC
It's hex 24 not 36.
"Mario do plumb. He fix pipe. Never do before."
I lost it.
This is more glitchy. The newer one has lots of glitches but less effective.
And difficult to pull off. :p
+Sophia P yes
I remember I got the small fire Mario glitch when I was like 3 but nobody believed me
SUPER MARIO GAMING BROTHERS not even I believe you.
It’s soooo easy to do😂
I remember that I got it on accident while I was just messing around
Every time you upload a video I lose sleep over the epicness
At 4:33 , I was like, "Wait, there's a glitch BETTER than the Minus World?!"... Thanks Scykoh, just, thanks.
I know! That amazing glitch surprised me as well. How did nobody else figure that out!?
me too

FINALLY THANK YOU I WAS WAITING FOR THIS GAME
3:45 everybody knows this glitch by now
This is the video that made me rediscover Nintendo, and actually find the fun in gaming. Thanks so much for this video
New is more glichy. I would not recomend SM64 because that would require multiple episodes
You know this series is going to continue for months/years to come? No game is safe.
Scykoh Scykoh, for the love of all that is macaroni, DO SM64!
Scykoh I feel reassured knowing there's more glitches to hunt down. :)
Scykoh Plzzzzzz do SM64
Tyler The Fighter 24
I've seen some glitches in SM64, like the Death corner where you go to an area ontop of the castle and climb up, you die for no apparent reason.
The ASCII makes sense, although not sure why they would do that on such a limited console, they could've added their own bitmap characters.
3D world seems glitchier. Here is a few Glitchfest Suggestions
I meant Spyro the Dragon 1 through a heros tale. Sorry for that confusion.
***** chill. Its a mistake we are all human and we all make mistakes.
***** Yep just you. I prefer Crash Bandicoot better, since Sonic has gone downhill and really I was only ever interested in SA2.
Flagpole, Wrong Warp, Bullet Bill, and the minus glitch are the ones that I can name off the top of my head
1:19 how do you get that strange death sound with the longer keys
I think the old mario games are more broken. But it's not their fault! Ancient technology is hard to program correctly!
i agree :3
old mario game
welll is weird
ricky demetro everything is weird
All technology is hard to program correctly, Nintendo just got good at it.
It depends on what version of Super Mario Bros.Like JWittz told in a video, the japaneze NES (Famicom) has a worse anti-pyracy and has glitchier worlds.
japaneze...?
oops...I meant japanese... :P
1:07 Toad giving a finger makes an extra insult there.
1:07? At 1:07, it is showing Mario changing sprites as fire Mario. It shows no finger.
Noah Falkins 1:08 clip, it was a second too early.
So, the koopa troopa glitch is the first escort mission?
+minecraftdude456 First and the best.. :)

Hey Scykoh I Cracked My I Phone 6 Plus Today And Got Really Upset. But When I Watch Your Videos You Make My Day... Thanks For Making These Vids!
The last one shocked me xD
Awww I was hoping the video explaining the minus world would be JWittz's video. LOL
You gained a subscriber! Hope to see more Glitchfest videos :)
1:16 Toad must be thinking "Where the hell is Mario? Bowser was defeated but he's not here like he's supposed to be. Oh well, better just say what I always do anyways."
I know, he must have thought Mario was invisible or something...
Glitching in a glitch level in a glitchy game in a glitch video... NORMAL
Have you ever realized that 8-bit toad sticks the middle finger at you?
+TheNintendoNoob It looks like he is, but I think the programmers tried to make it so he's doing 2 thumbs up.
Yeah... Look at super Mario maker in the 100 Mario Challenge, you will see toad doing the double middle fingers
+Daniel Paredes STOP SPAMMING OR ILL REPORT YOU
Small Mario holds his middle fingers to his sides for whatever reason...
+TheNintendoNoob NO WOW REALLY NEVER REALISED!
(did you notice my sarcasm, idk if you did. i'm just curious)
Thank you Bowser!
But our castle is in another Princess!
Does anyone else realize that toad is always giving you the 8-bit finger? Or is it just me...
Nope, it isn't you.

+TheBinaryGuy I know I was joking
Lol
WRONG! 64 And Galaxy You Can Drown In
+TheBinaryGuy how can you hear them?
I don't see a Jesus or Christ here. He might know what you mean tho.
I actually did that flag pole thing when I was a kid ....good times I sucked at Mario back then.
I remember jumping over a damn flag pole by accident when I still were a little boy.
Can't recall how I managed that though, it was pure luck.
People probably won't believe that anyways but I know I did that once.
I did, in world 3.
My favorite channel now! Amazing!
I've been playing Mario since 4 years old, never in my life have I encountered a bug. So "broken" is not the word to use.
I wish scykoh would come back
go on scykoh playd

Yeah
But this channel is pretty dead
It's been 3 months
He RIP :(
The 1st pipe takes you to 36-1. But if you go in the 2nd pipe you go to 5-1!

+King of Minecraft warp zone in world 3 takes you to 8-1
Is it possible to get in the 3rd pipe without loading the warp zone?
+mario sonic yes

New games are about more fancy graphics and not enough bug fixing. So, newer games are more broken.
Considering I encountered a lot of glitches even in gigantic budget games like The Last Of Us, I guess you're right, also Bishock on the PS3 was almost embarassing sometimes
Yep.

super mario bros. is definitely more broken... but it has the excuse of being 29 years old... new super mario world is just a couple months old.
I want this videos back, this is quality content not like the quadrilion "lets play" channels out there
I love your videos man
Keep doing this types of vids
I think the original is more glitches, except modern has better glitches. :)

1:20 TOAD: Thank you Mario! But you are dead and have to start all over. Also the princess is in another castle.
I like that as a theme song you chose the final battle of bowsers inside story
What I want to know is how there's even a sprite for small Fire Mario.
Wtf?
Its not a sprite, is a pallete change, so you could have a fire flower toad.
AngeloGamerZ Oh right, I was still in a SNES mindset, the palettes are usually big enough on that to make it so they don't need to change
Wait, fire flower small mario? You can't do that normally so why does that sprite exist in the game?
I have absolutely no idea, man
+bobafett177 I'm going to guess that the fire flower only changes the color palette of the sprite, not the actual sprite itself, so the small fire Mario was achieved without any extra images.
+bobafett177 It's because one of the starman frames looks like Fire Mario, so basically it uses that frame of the starman animation when you're small
*EDIT* I was wrong.
It's using a small Mario sprite, but with a different pallete.
I've done it. What you do is, when you are big Mario, spawn a fire flower, get hit and then get the fire flower.
I like soup

you can mid air jump off powerups. you can also bounce the mushroom in 1-2 to be stuck between two blocks so it vibrates back and forth
Super Mario Bros on the Famicom seems a bit more broken than either the NES version or SM3DW on Wii U, imo. Some older games can basically be reprogrammed by doing different glitches. The minus world glitch happens because the underground 4-2 warp zone is 36 5 36 and same with the 1-2 warp zone if you do the minus world
Plus, there are 1024 levels and 256 worlds but without glitches you get 32 levels and 8 worlds.
