    I watched this video awhile back and thought about the buckle issue you mentioned because I have a pair of Sway Team IV and was hoping I wouldn't ever run into that problem. It sounded less than enjoyable. Well, today it happened, and it instantly reminded me of this video. So now I'm rewatching the video to remind myself #IAmNotAlone

    Great review! My buddy just got the Farmer Sways and he’s been having a little issue with heel lift even with the 45° strap. I shared this video to him so he can try out the shoe goo. I’ve been skating the Aeon Basic 60 IIs (no 45 degree strap) and can agree that they are only comfortable with the stock liner for about 2hrs. Also, I tried on his farmers and can confirm that they are indeed light like the Aeons. One last thing, his soul plates are definitely faster than mine.

    So, as an intermediate "urban" skater I was always interested to try aggressive skating but I wasn't... brave enough? Anyway, I was watching those "serious" channels like USD and stuff but still I wasn't sure. And then I've found this place... I've watched all the videos basically one after another and new pair of Sway 57 is coming to me. There's just something about your videos that I couldn't find anywhere else. I wish you all good luck, stay safe and keep rolling.

    I just recently got back into skating and got the Sway 57 skates in the 11-12 size. My sole plates were riveted on, and the right one was all kinds of crooked. The rivets are easy to get out (use a punch and they hammer out really easily). I used some standard T-nuts (#8 because I couldn't find metric in my area) from the hardware store and corresponding tapered-head machine screws (I had to countersink the hole a little). The tapered-head machine screws in the countersunk holes allowed the screw to seat deep enough to clear the bottom of the sole plate.

    This is that skate I really was hoping would be the throne replacement. I haven't tried it to be honest.
    But THEMS are the skate that feels like a throne to me. Minus the heel of the souls, but I like THEMS souls.
    I will say these are so pretty. Probably the best looking "new" boot as of late. They really do have the classic skate look.
    Great, straight forward and real review.

      Thank you 🙏. I never did skate thrones, so I can’t speak to how they skate, but the look down on these does have that older skate feel. Even with the issues I have, I’ve been very pleased with the skate. Hopefully they’ll find a way to improve and fine tune it because it is definitely a solid foundation.

    This helped me decide to spend the little bit extra and go with Aeon 60s. I won't be grinding cement so I'm hoping they last a while to counteract the cost increase vs these or the XXIs lol. These(in some version) will still probably be my go to pair if I need something with swappable parts in the future though

    Great review.
    I've got the farmer sways and they've developed a really annoying habit where the flexy wings I guess you'd call them at the back of the cuff have started to get bent out of shape cuz of all the forward flex.
    I don't mind the forward flex, in fact I dare say I've got used to it, but the skate is damaging itself from going so far forward!
    And the worst part is that they bend and get caught and slide under the power arch of the crown liner. Then by the end of the session it's all jammed together and a mess. 🙄

    • @coreyenglish8706
      @coreyenglish8706  3 года назад +2

      Yikes! I can totally see that happening. I have issues if I take my liners out. They get caught on those wings when I put them back in. Wish I had a magic fix for it, but hope USD figures it out.

      @chilli-iceolive-abode2447 3 года назад +1

      @@coreyenglish8706 Yeah it's a real pain.
      I'm tempted to cut the wings down, but then I imagine the cuffs will fall forward even easier so I don't know tbh.
      I know what you mean about putting the liners back in too. Nightmare.
      Yeah fingers crossed USD do something about it, but I don't think they're going to, the new all black and all white sways are exactly the same.

    Hey Corey, thanks for the review! I am torn between getting these or aeons, and was wondering why you moved on from the aeons. I have been on Roces/Valo for a long time, and want to try something new. Right now I’m on 5th elements, but the lack of power transfer and the extra forward flex, make them a little “sloppy”/bulky. The aeons look like they strip down the extra and are still supportive.

    • @coreyenglish8706
      @coreyenglish8706  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for the support! I’ve not skated the 5ths, but it’s hard for me to recommend the Sway if you find that the 5ths have too much forward flex. The Sways don’t feel bulky, but they have the least forward support of any skate that I’ve skated. The Aeon is an awesome skate, and I almost didn’t change from them. The first reason I switched was a pressure point on the outside of my foot, which was manageable but annoying. (The classic 6th toe pressure point). The other, bigger reason i swapped was that I prefer a shallower h-block groove for riding flat and was ready to go back to symetrics frames.
      Both skates are good options, but have their issues. Aeons have a short (height) toe box that may require modification if you have a taller foot. Sways have a bit more room and have a raised heel if you prefer that, but again the forward flex. I would recommend upgrading the liner in either boot if you go for the lower level boot options.
      The aeons have a couple more quirks that are easily remedied with thread locker and super glue. Sorry for the long response. Hope this helps in some way. Definitely measure your foot and reference the size charts before buying. The conversions are weird.

    About to buy sway 60 which seem to be basically the same skate size wise. I’m exactly 25.5cm and about 9.5cm wide. Should I go 7.5 or the 8-9 size? 7.5 is listed at 25.5cm but also says to add 5cm for toe space. Afraid of it being too loose

    • @coreyenglish8706
      @coreyenglish8706  3 года назад +1

      I would say to go 7.5 if you want a snug fit. I’m 26.8 and rode the 8-9. You may need to get a thinner liner or just break in the stock one a bit, but you’ll definitely be on the low end of an 8-9.

  • @zac8294

    In my opinion, my sway fits intuition liners better any other skates I own.

    • @zac8294
      @zac8294 2 года назад

      It is very light and responsible, boots are the 2nd lightest boots I own, the 1st place is for Adapt Brutale and the 3rd place is USD CARBON.(But the lightest complete set up is USD Aeon Pro, unbeatable)
      The shells fit intuition prime liners perfectly, power responsing is really close to Adapt Brutale and more confortables than Brutale, I could skate with this set up over 5 hours without any pain but Brutale would hurt me after 1 hour.(Usd Carbon? I can not even wear it for 5 minutes)
      However, as a pair of low price skates, plastic and hardware quality are big issues for me, the original buckles came out easily by cutting the plastic caging part off.
      I have to find different type of buckles and drill some new holes to install them.
      The cuff mounting nuts can not be hold on their positions, they will spining while you turn those screws and damage the shell.
      I wish someone could make a pair of skates with the same mold but higher quality materials and better designed hardware.

    Did you downsize in the Sways? I ride all kind of USD Aeons in EU size 41-42 (Basic Liner on the 60s and the Skinny Boy Liners on the 72s and 80s) which fit almost perfectly), and recently got some USD Sway also in 41-42 and they are WAY bigger then the AEONS...lots of unneeded room in the toebox.

    • @coreyenglish8706
      @coreyenglish8706  3 года назад +1

      I ride the 42 shell in both. I’m at the very top of it though. The aeon barely fits and the sway fits perfectly. I appreciate the extra room in the toes of the sway, but a friend of mine had the same issue as you. May be able to downsize to the 39-40.

      It’s really difficult to give a definitive answer to your question. I think that as long as the skate fits your foot well, it is a good option. I have been pleasantly surprised by this skate as a whole, however this particular model does come with some limitations. The riveted hardware being the biggest one. It’s not an immediate issue, but if you are really pushing these skates, you may pop a rivet out of the soul plates. It’s an easy fix, but something to be aware of. As for the flex, I was able to get used to it quickly and limit it by wrapping my laces around the cuffs, but everyone is going to have different preferences when it comes to flex. I think that if you like the look of the skate, and it fits you comfortably, it is a great option. Especially for the price.
      Hope this helps.

      I've got farmers sways and I think they're brilliant. Like Corey said they're basically the same but with the 45° strap. I think the main thing that draws people to them is if they love the colourway. For me I love purple so it's a no brainer.
      Do these Sways have a little dimple in the shell where the 45° would be? Like you find in the Aeons without 45° straps. Cuz then it's easy enough to fit your own. 👍
      Edit: I see you just mentioned the divets in the video! And wow rivetted on soulplates never seen that. Madness! Also on the farmers they've actually moved the buckle further away from the hole in the cuff, it's 1.5 inches apart on these.

    Have you tried the Sway Team IV? I'm looking into getting them especially since I have wide feet and they look so clean. Would you know if they also have the forward flex problem?

    • @coreyenglish8706
      @coreyenglish8706  3 года назад +2

      I have not. The only real difference would be that it has a proper cuff bolt instead of rivets. I believe there is a washer between the cuff and the boot. People have said that removing that helps reduce the forward flex. I also found that wrapping my laces around the cuff helped reduce the forward flex. Still had a lot, but I actually started to enjoy it. The cuffs are very stiff laterally so the forward flex helps with topsides and groove tricks.

    I think my carbons may have that defect sole plate. With frames on my leg buckles inward while standing. It’s the worst feeling ever. So I’ve been mind blown people love carbons and mine so far have been the worst. I got aeons couple years ago and I love them slow souls and all

    • @coreyenglish8706
      @coreyenglish8706  3 года назад

      Hahaha. I also loved the aeons, but it was time for a change. I’ve never heard of carbons causing bowing inward. I always found that my legs bowed outward. Maybe we’re saying the same thing though? The upper on the carbons is fairly soft and because the souls only mount via the ufs bolts, they tend to have a lot of play/flex. I used to be able to touch my soul plate on the ground standing up straight in my carbon free.

      The skates are plenty durable. That’s the only issue I’ve had with something breaking, and it was a particularly thin part of the plastic. I also, pull my laces as tight as I can. Understandable if that puts you off though. I personally buy a new boot every 12-18 months, but you could go a few years on the same boot while only replacing the sole plates, frames, and wheels. I recommend going with a skate that fits properly over everything. That’s the reason I ride USD skates. I would love to ride something else, but I’m between shell sizes for most other companies. That being said, any hard boot skate should last a long time.
