About the poor buckle protection: the problem is that the buckle is simply mounted too far forward on the cuff. This leaves it exposed to hits because the cuff's protector "bump" isn't lined up and doesn't "cover" the buckle. On mine I just drilled two new holes further back, so the buckle was covered by the bump. Digging the walk-and-talk style!
Great video man! About the Aeons, I would also add that despite being wider and more comfy than the M12s, they are as light as the M12s. It really makes airs more enjoyable.
I got the Aeon Lomax pro model 60's. Love them to the moon. I first got the 80's and they were the most comfy skates ever and fast...but I'm getting into aggressive. The liner in the pro Lomax is so nice. Worth the extra money. The Lomax 60's are my favorite skates now.
Love your content. Usd has quality issues everywhere. I just bought Sam crofts 2 aeons and being $300 usd, I’ve had cuff issues, lacing issues, skin peeling, all within first few sessions. I’ll agree I love this skate so much. But the quality def isn’t up to par. Awesome review man.
About quality control I do think that's lacking in other areas of skating as well. I understand the logic of it doesn't matter they're gonna get scratched anyway, but if I buy something new ideally I want it brand new. I find a lot of skate shops just throw things in a bag or a box and stuff gets damaged and scratched on the way. For example I bought the oil slick V2 ground control frames and wheels for a lot of money and they came with the Allen key in the bag against the frame and it had scratched a lot of marks into the side. I ordered some wheels that one of their selling points was the packaging and one set arrived all crushed up and ripped and wheels lose, the other set just loose. I ordered some metal hub wheels they came loose in a bag and the coloured hubs got scratched up in transit. And the list goes on and on and on. I've always accepted the shops are run by skaters and they're trying their best, but I think a bit more quality care could be introduced, cuz we wouldn't let it slide with other things we buy. Anyway I know I kind of went off on a tangent, but when you were talking about quality I felt like a rant. 🙌 Love the review, I have seriously considered Aeons many times now and I'm sure at some point I will try them out just to experience them myself. 👍
Woah. I went for the Aeon 80s (non-basic) and love them! Thankfully had none of that grief with the plastic chunks and paint peeling from the eyelets, pretty decent quality really. The bigger wheels makes it a great urban skate, an awesome hybrid with aggressive really (though with a much smaller groove than the 60s).
I've never had any other aggressive skates so I have nothing to compare them to but I bought the Aeon 60s a couple months ago and I absolutely love them. They are so comfy and I'm learning how to do basic grinds and I'm learning small airs. I am so happy with my decision of buying the Aeons. I go skate for about an hour every day and I have no issues whatsoever with comfort or rideability. The only thing I have to do is wax whatever I'm grinding... Other than that, I love my Aeons!
I have to echo your sentiments about grinding. I was an anti rocker skater for almost 20 years. I tried skating flat in Kaltik's and just wrecked myself getting wheel bite, but I loved the feeling of rolling flat. The massive groove in the Aeons definitely feels like you're grinding in anti rocker, but with the experience of rolling flat. I have the previous generation of the black basic Aeon 60mm and I love them. They're sturdy, grind great, comfortable and affordable. Not to mention durable, I never had the quality issues you spoke of. Even though it's a basic model, I was surprised by how good the liner is! I've definitely had much worse liners from other brands. I hope in future generations they change the hardware on the frames and make one side locking like Ground Control and Blank frames. The one complaint is I find myself having to tighten my wheel bolts quite often, much like anytime I've had a Kizer frame. That is an issue I never encountered with GC frames and Blanks due to the single side that locks. Great review Brandon, keep up the great videos!
Haha we keep rocking the same skates. I had the Joe Atkinson roces for awhile then just got the Nick Lomax Aeons a month ago. I’m still trying to figure them out but skating flat has been amazing so far. Nice review man!
Amazing educational review. I'm thinking of getting new skates, I'm stuck between the Pro Aeons, Pro Roces 5th Element, M12, could you recommend the best one? Budget isn't a problem. Thanks a lot
Thanks for the rather detailed review. That being said, I'll stick to my M12s with Joe Atkinson Sola Frames for now. After all, I'm not much of a grinder anyway :)
Hey Brandon, great review. I have the Aeon 60 Team XXIs; essentially the same boot, but better features - Apex aluminum hub wheels, MyFit Skinnyboy liner (heat mouldable), and the 45 degree strap. I’ve actually found the strap and buckle to be great, no problems. The soul plate felt slow out of the box for me, my only real complaint. So far, the boot grooves I agree are very forgiving. I’m mostly a park skater so that’s a consideration for others. I’d say for the money, if anyone can afford them, the upgrade is worth it. But the Basics look like a great budget option!
Good review! I got the ninja black Lomax ones as my first aggressive skate and I agree with all the points you made. I changed the liners to a Second Skin as I found the toe box too tight on the top of my foot. I started by learning makio and then frontside. By the time I subsequently tried to learn soul grinds I found the soul plate too sticky for my slow beginner attempts, even with wax. I think as a beginner you need something that will slide easily otherwise you get stuck and fall too often. You don't want to fall going fast, which compounds the problem.
Thanks. I've been torn between getting a UFS skate or a Aeon 70s, Have been offered a pair of brand new second basics, I think I might pull the trigger after this video. Seems like the best option for getting back into skating as old boy beginner.
Aeons are still great! They are the easiest skate to skate flat. Definitely reccomend! I would only go for the Sways if you want to customize your skates a lot. Both are great options though.
Hey man, good review! i'm trying to get back into the sport. Pretty keen on USD as thats what i use to skate and loved them! (USD Psyris). Do these push your calves forward at all? I can't deal with skates that do that, always feels like im going to fall flat on my face. Bought a pair of Nimh Shimas secondhand and just cant get confident in them its too awkward and sketchy coming out of tricks. Not sure if you know what i mean lol.
Just had my USD Aeon 60 Loco’s turn up today. Soon as I took them out of the box I noticed the finish quality and it’s not great. Did chuckle when I saw the QC sticker. I’d expected better for the price. But as we all know they are gunna get beat up and if they preform as well as everyone says I’ll forgive them.
Biggest issue with the Aeons is the shell being too flat in the front/ toebox. I had to switch because my toe joint was touching the first inner eyelet, without using a liner!
Just spent 239£ on the USD sam Crofts... and the first skate the cuffs come so loose constantly. The suade (that was said to be really durable in the promo videos) came off scuffed BADLY straight away. The skinny boy myfit liners were reallly badly stitched and look cheap. The shock absorbers are too hard and heels hurt more than when I skated cheap Anarchy skates when I was 12 years old... the cuffs were also too big and to cut them down which I then found out voids the warranty if i break anything! Oh and also my wheels are wearing FAST and the bolts all lose their shape when tightened with Allen keys.... GREAT... 😳
My wife is going to be upset but I've got the same complaints about the Roces M12s I got last year and, while I thought my feet were slender, they still _CRUSH_ my feet! 🙄
Sorry guys we are in 2021..souls plates should be included. Replaceable parts should be provided. It is not acceptable and sustainable to bin a skate every 6/12 months because the soul area is gone. USD should review the way they are making skates. It is not fair on skaters and not on the environment. For this reason alone, I woul never consider to buy this skate. Just my personal opinion

Great review, Brandon. Thanks for the shout out. Hope the heals start cooperating soon.
Cheers man. You really saved me some pain! I had to pass it on 🔥.
I hope so too 😆
Aeon 72 and 80 reviews next please :P

The liner in the pro Lomax is so nice. Worth the extra money.
The Lomax 60's are my favorite skates now.
I used to skate USD back in the psirus days. Getting back into it I found some lomax aeons...and wow! Yeah the lomax aeons are insane
@@MR1337SKI they just seem like the perfect skate for aggressive street and the park.
Love the low profile 60’s and how low you are to the ground.
Such a high quality review man!
I remember talking to you about these years ago. My favorite skates ever!

nice to see that we think the same thing of this skate.
Hey Thank you I was Really intrigued about the non-ufs frame and its durability I'm pretty sure my next Pair Will be Some Aeon

How is the fit on these guys? Are they true to size, compared to whatever you wear for shoes?
Great video. In 2024, I'm starting out skating.. would you recommend aeons..sway or something else for flat skates?
Aeons are still great! They are the easiest skate to skate flat. Definitely reccomend!
I would only go for the Sways if you want to customize your skates a lot.
Both are great options though.
Solid review! brutally honest! props
I am an European and i have 44⅔ foot size, if i will order 45/46 aeons they will be ok or not?
I seem to get a lot of wheelbite on my aeons with 60mm Konjure 91a wheels, it's probably just me being a bit out of practice though haha!

How the shock absorbtion? How does it compare to the razors sls shocks?
Bro are they true to size if ur a 9 can u fit in a 9 or u got to get size up?
I’d like to know what wheels these are and size , plz and thank u . :) I have the same pair of aeons
Mainly I just would like to know what’s the smallest size wheel you think it would fit
Now I have a Roces M12 but later, probably I'll buy these Aeon (:
The M12 is the best looking skate IMO 🔥
@@BrandonDrummond YES!
What are some better wheels I can put on these that will last longer then the stocked wheels ?
dead wheels or apex id recommend, 61mm
powerslide QC needs a loooooooooooooot of work

Aeon are just hype and marketing. Get some razors. Those are made for grindings and UFS
I have these, love 'm. Can't skate for sh*t tho

They hold up so well! Never chipped any. I still have my original Kosmics. I only change to get a new colour!
@@BrandonDrummond Same. They are the only wheels I buy now.
Love blading but AONS will never be for me. RAZORS Cult or SL molds for life
🔥🔥🔥
Let’s go!
fruittechhardware on instagram bro they have complete hardware kits for most skates
Hey Brandon I’m a big fan how r u?
Hey Jasper. Thanks for the support! I'm alright, just had a good skate. How are you?
@@BrandonDrummond I’m good thx. I have got some new flat aggressive sales there great 👍🏻!
My stock basic wheels crumbled apart in no time only with park use. Total trash. Be prepared to just buy a set of wheels.
