The reason we're settling down later is because we cannot afford the housing to settle down earlier! We're not just deciding to buy a home at 35 because we're not finding partners until then. Individuals in high-paying jobs or couples in their 20s can't settle down because housing is vastly unaffordable, taking 5-10 years of dual incomes to afford a deposit. This is the principal barrier to stable family life.

It depends on your circumstances. If you're young and on decent to middling income, yet living alone and paying rent...you're never going to be able to afford to save to raise a deposit to buy.
I was fairly lucky. I was able to live at home ay my parents with my partner for 18 months. We weren't on great salaries (£15k and £19k at the time) but every month we saved roughly half of our pay packets. In those 18 months, we saved £12k. We then used the 'Help to Buy' scheme to bump up that deposit and buy our first house. When the equity loan was due to start being repaid, we were in the fortunate position that we could remortgage the house and release some of the equity to pay off that loan. We lived in the house for another 5 years and then moved up north where we got a 4 bed detatched house for £10k less than what we sold our 3 bed semi for.

Another example is he has muted Labour's desire to allow 16 year olds to vote, as their belief all teens vote left is turning out not to be as complete as they thought, this result being even more evidence of that.
So it could well just fizzle out, showing us Labour never really meant all the 'it is fair, they deserve it' nonsense, now that they fear lowering the voting age will be good for Farage, they may well not do it and for that reason alone!,

Kelvin is disingenuous...he knows full well property prices across the country are averagely well above the joint incomes never mind one person. Lots of people just have nothing to pass on to their kids now either, especially the divorced.
Germany also had a completely different property market and a static workforce...not comparable to the UK market at all. If you have yo little property available for the population costs rise...if there is plenty of stock the rents remain sensible. Germanys population has barely shifted in 25 years, the UKs has gone up by over 10m.

Less than half of Germans are homeowners. In the 1980s only about a quarter of Germans owned a house. Rents were low and many people stayed in the same house for decades. Brits look at buying a house as a way to make money and this drives up prices and inflation.
