  • Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” grindhouse trailer was hilarious and awesome… back in 2007, when movies were allowed to be normal. Is the new feature length film based on the fake trailer just as great, or is it totally C*CKED for “modern audiences”? White meat… dark meat… all will be C*CKED.

    Thanksgiving is a horror masterpiece in my opinion and the best horror film to come out in a long time. This will end up being a classic.

    I’ve never even heard of this movie. But will I watch these two talk about it for 20mins?
    Absolutely!

    So I just finished the movie. I'd give it like a 5.5. I enjoyed the gory parts of it, but the kids felt like throwaway actors. It was hard to connect with them. I might rewatch this again in the future!

    Makes you wonder if teenagers today are even having sex...my nephew is 16 and has a girlfriend now, theyve been dating for 4 months and i joked about him and her making out when her parents were out of town...he looked at me like i just old him Santa wasnt real , it was the weirdest thing ever. I see comments online from young men telling other men .."bro, you cant say that girl is hot, thats wrong to say bro"....what in the actual frick is going on today? Gen z is so brainwashed into thinking everything is an insult or wrong or sexist where us older guys are like ..uhh, no thats totally normal.

    When I think of okay stupid shlocky grindhouse I've seen this side of 1999.. maybe Hobo With A Shotgun.. ? ..I also liked Don't Breathe, but I'm not sure that counts with its modern visual aesthetic.. ..Eli Roth getting passed notes from his strong independent producer like, "uhm, so, were not gonna go with the shmorced smushshmortion on trampoline scene.. we focus tested the scene with the Chinese on tiktok and the data shows an ankle laceration was the most tolerated version of this scene in your slasher flick.. thank you for your time, sincerely, birthing person, Janet"

    • @hardcutreviews
      @hardcutreviews  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yup. Even "edgy" Eli Roth bows to China. Don't Breathe is decent, but yeah- I dunno if that counts. It's definitely a better film than Thanksgiving though...

    I love the trailer and was excited about this movie, but had low expectations, so ultimately I really liked it! ...Buuuuut I like junky movies that own the fact that they are, in fact, junk. It definitely needed T&A and more gore, but considering what they were working from, the story was decent. And was the cheerleader who got her ankle sliced the one in the fridge who was leaking blood everywhere? I didn't mind the injection of 2023 tech. I don't think the IG posts and livestream kills were woke at all... just a byproduct of our current reality AND it was used to push the story forward- it wasn't just wedged in there to appeal to the Gen Z chil'ren 🤷

    Best review I’ve heard thus far I did enjoy the movie and also felt like Eli just barrows ideas from scream IKWYDLS and urban legend for the who done it aspect but I really liked those movies just not being ripped off for this one. He missed an opportunity for a classic slasher killer concept and story! John Carver is the perfect name and the look is great. Maybe we can get a follow up with a more understandable motive.

      Wouldn't mind a sequel. Maybe Roth will neuter himself less in a follow up.

      Debating that still. Those types of films don’t seem to perform as well on the channel yet with our current sub count so that may be a film we have to come back to at a later time.

  • @MentalDeviant

    I agree he neutered the trampoline scene. But I disagree that hobo with a shotgun is neutered. Needs an unrated cut. Rutger hauer chose to give the movie heart because otherwise he didn't want to do it but the movie is Savage as fuck!

    Yeah this movie felt like it wanted to be grindhouse style, but wussed out with a glossy CW cast and shiny veneer. And if people claim that's what sells, check the box office. And talk about a few years too late. Black Friday mahem went out in 2020. Imo this movie should have been a 45 minute Grindhouse flick served up as a double feature. Maybe another Thanksgiving themed horror or why not Christmas? I felt it did not have enough meat to sustain it's runtime. Too much stuffing if you forgive my bad pun.

    • @hardcutreviews
      @hardcutreviews  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it definitely needed less of that CW polish. It's so far from what made the trailer popular. If this got greenlit back in 2008 it would have been a very different film.

    That is your biggest divide! Your normally only a half a point away. Now I almost want to watch it. Just to see what you guys see so differently about it. Unfortunately I have no interest in these types of movies. Not a gore fan.

      Bobby just lets things slide when it comes to horror flicks. I'm way less forgiving. I only give bad John Woo flicks a pass. Mission: Impossible 2 is awesome. There. It was said.

    You can’t wonder if stuff is modern or agenda driven because the numbers show, the agenda stuff doesn’t succeed, so why continue to bend to it unless you have an agenda to follow? It’s not a modern trend to jump onto to make loads of money, it’s nothing but bending to The Message.

    • @hardcutreviews

      Don't know how bad things have to get before they turn around. This movie wasn't that agenda laced at all but that's rare these days.

    I enjoyed the Thanksgiving movie but I wish it was just like the trailer but I get that he wanted to make it different. The theatrical movie is more of a giallo than a slasher. I do miss the sex and nudity. Staples of slashers.
