Love the @$$ loop absolutely hilarious. It gets me every time. Looks like a Pedal build or more a Pedal assembly would be fun. Thanks for the entertainment, cheers
That was very straightforward and quite easy to assemble. It does sound very nice Colin. As far as talking thats your personality and no one minds that one bit I am sure. You have to be yourself YT or not and thats why we like you as you are a genuine and a trustworthy person with a unique way of doing videos.
Aloha Colin! I got one from the second batch. Don't apply 18v. I thought I destroyed it but didn't see damage or smell anything. After not working for a few tries. I started working. Enjoy Colin!
Brilliant, Coll, loads of box opening suspense. I thought I had miss heard 'arse looping' until you demonstrated it. Great vid as usual. Keep it up!!!!
Ooooo I wonder if JHS would consider a collab pedal with you Colin, it could be called "What a Croc!" and sport a rubber clog emblem. And an SG of course 😄
Ooh, how did I not know about this? Cheers for the heads up, Col! Great sound at a great price, AND a bit of fun putting it together! (Watched accompanied by coffee and some Easter egg chocolate nicked off my kids!)
Thanks Colin, great video! 😊 i really like the packaging, the board construction, the diy aspect, everything... but the spanners made out of the otherwise wasted material was the best thing about it, imo. Thanks Cheers !😃
Back for Pt. II - its sound like at (16:30) someone is channeling one of the Allmans Bros signature jams. I spent many a late August summer evening at Jones Beach on (Long Island, New York) at our beloved Theater on the Atlantic Ocean listening to Greatness. 😉🌠🌌🌛🎹🎸🎼🎻🥁🎵🎷🎶🎸 Great playing Colin, ohhh man that southern tone, it lives inside me now 30 years . . . .Les Pauls, &SG's ringin out that America Southern Sound - get ya selves some Allman Brothers music - start with LIVE at The FILMORE EAST - NYC March 1971 - welcome to my house of worship ! ! 🕍🎼🎶 throwing in some Marshall Tucker too . . .
Thank you for the video Colin. I noticed you didn't turn the gain up beyond noon. IMHO the best sounds come from a Klon style pedal, when you are at 3 o'clock or higher. Unless the gain is turned up, the "Magic" clipping diodes aren't engaged. I'll wager the mod switch might have more effect with a higher gain setting. Cheers.
Yes. On any Klon Clone, just turn up the gain and manipulate the sound with guitar's tone and volume knobs. It makes even the most muddy pickups sound glorious.
Their best video was the comparison between Behringer pedals and the "originals".... This single video made me buy 3 or maybe 4 Behringer pedals and they are exactly as described in the video! As near perfect clones as you can get and I highly recommend them!
I love your talking with that humour you have and that’s one of the many reasons I watch your vids as soon as they drop or when I notice it. I got distracted with the CV tele as it reminded me I still need to get one as well as trying out the SG as I have yet to get a feel of one.
My Notaklon is coming in the next 3 days. I believe I ordered in October (#13700 or so). I built a Ghost Drive from StewMac and am pleased with it. Can’t wait to try Josh’s toy. Seems like a riot to build. Thank you for the video!
Sounds good! I have a silver klon and the closest pedal is the new wamplertumnus germanium that I got when they fist came out. Glad I did because Sweetwater was sold out half hour latter.
Never built a pedal. Looks fun. My brother is the current drummer for Beatallica (only on the last album, but toured for the last two)-he bought a couple guitars wanting to learn and I’m going to repaint some Chinese pedals in a Beatles theme for him to play around with. I had the gold mini Tumnus. Granddaughter plays with the pedals and I can’t find that one. When the limited germanium version came out I ordered from two online retailers getting one from the first and second batches. Setting up two pedalboards with close to Klons.
I preferred the sound straight into the amp, no pedals. I dont understand the klon obsession out there, just so much hype, like for example the "magic diodes" - probably the most common setting for a Klon is with the gain off where the diodes are effectively out of circuit. Save your money and put it towards a better amp 🙂 (Not you Col, you got good amps)
Maybe its the close proximity of the mic but the Shamrock switch was a big difference for me! Pushed it a little bit too much for my tastes but in the normal mode it sounds great!
Sounds pretty good, but then so does the Soul Food to my ear. Not sure about the making it yourself thing - does that bring the cost down or something? TBH, I don't think this will be replacing my buddy Paul Crowther's Double Hot Cake anytime soon, though - old habits die hard - been using the Hot Cake since the '70s when Paul first launched it back in NZ! I must say I was really impressed with the Squier straight into the Princeton! Will check out some Fender & Squier Teles tomorrow when I hit the shop, here - never owned a Tele but recently having second thoughts 😀Happy Easter one and all!
I'll let you in on a secret... the sonic Esquire is routed for a humbucker sized pickup under the pickguard. Get one for 200 bucks, another 100 on a decent pickup, 15 bucks on a tele pickguard.. if you want to customize a bit and like a project.
I had the single Hot Cake.... And sold it (like an idiot!), been keeping me eye out on gumtree etc. I bought a JRocket Archer (klon thingo).. the Hot Cake was better.. different, but. Edit: Happy Easter!!
@@theguitaristas Not sure, Colin - the sounds I go for seem to be pretty much in the same ballpark as what I was hearing from these one but . . . maybe I need to get out more 😅
For a klon you really need a clean tone and a strat and have the gain between off and 11 o clock and it fattens up the sound nicely. The ceritone is the one i have and its as close as your ever going to get without spending 4-8k
Colin, just bought myself a epiphone sheraton 2 from 2012 made in mexico with gibson pods and wiring for 600 pounds. I was dreaming about it for a while and now i have it im just hoping i can really connect with it. I was left in doubt... I guess well see. I remembered all the stuff you talked about in videos and the fact that you liked the second 335 more than the first ahah This guitar thing has a very psychological... thing... about it ahah Your channel talks about that and that is one of the reasons i love your channel so much! It is very human and different from the rest and i think that is key! Cheers, friend! Ill be around
Incredible savings. I think it's great that JHS does this for people who don't want to breathe solder smoke or get it in their eyes. And they guys there know that a Klon pedal is just a bunch of cheap transistors, diodes and capacitors.
I was lucky to purchase an original klon Centaur back in 97 and a KTR I keep em locked up in a safe when company comes over lol I have trust issues. I would compare the klon to a pair of Air Jordan's because of the way it makes you feel when you click that footswitch I'm still waiting on my notaklon
After seeing this video I got an idea and I found this was right; you can connect a external footswitch to the Boss looper, so you can keep on working with the pedal on the desk and still operate it with your foot. You can also use a double footswitch and a plethora of options reveals itself. As a guitar player the looper functions in a DAW are limited when you have both hands at the guitar, so I made mine work with a pedal (the less advanced one just requires a £ 10 pound switch, put you mouse pointer on the record button of the DAW and there you go (you only need to make sure you don't that pointer, less cumbersome solutions require a MIDI-switch pedal that costs more).
I've been tempted by the Notaklon. I have the Stewmac ghost drive which is my favourite drive pedal. Anything by JHS is tempting though isn't it.... Dangerous really 😅
This video was such a gift, Colin! JHS is my main brand for pedals and their YT channel is fantastic. I want to buy their Notaklön in the future when there isn't a waitlist, but for now I just recently settled on the Joyo Tauren klone. Also, coincidentally I'm being reunited with a Gibson SG Special that I first owned nearly 20 years ago. Can't wait to match your tones when it arrives! Thanks for doing what you do. 🤘
That's a cool pedal. I was actually really surprised at how simple it all seemed to go together & by the sound. It actually looks like someone who isn't an electronic engineer could do it & that's perfect, cause I'm certainly not an electronic engineer by any stretch of the term. Great video, great playing as always, have a good one man.
Oh. I got a Notaklon as well here in Canada. US$99 plus shipping turned into CAD$180. Then the courier brokerage fees and Canadian sales tax made the total CAD$217 (about US$160). Not really a cheap pedal at all then. It’s OK.
For what it's worth, I clicked on the thumbnail because it was a new Guitaristas video, not because of a box Colin...(to be honest, I'm old and couldn't see the box in the thumbnail). Keep'em coming! 🤘
This was about the 5th "building and testing a Notaklon" video I've watched. Not to mention the original JHS video with their kids building the pedal. After that one, yours was probably the most entertaining what with your "arse looping" 🤣🤣 Thanks Colin!
To this day I can’t comprehend how you manage to arse loop in time, I still struggle occasionally with my foot! 😁 If I lived a little closer I’d pop down and show you how to use the count in function on that looper pedal… 😉
I bought a lot of pedals, in spurts, since the 70s. Since we moved, I never reassembled my pedal board. I have re tubed some amps changed to speakers I’ll like in particular amps and now tend to like to go straight in. When I was working co-writing a couple tunes with Eric Bloom for a BÖC album he always just plugged straight into a Marshall. Buck Dharma, BÖCs amazing lead guitarist, has quite an arsenal of FX. (Eric calls it the “rack of doom”:) In essence it would be hard to have 3 guitarists in a band all playing with FX. Makes sense. Keep it simple. Love that Telecaster btw ! ☮️

Major ass-kissing alert! You must be American.

Good to see you again. Always enjoy the unboxing vids!
Love the IKEA aesthetic they use for the packaging and instructions.
Channeling Toy Caldwell on a Friday night, outstanding sir. Thank you so much!
Great pedal and such a joy to put together. It’s no wonder they are still selling more than they can ship.
I need to put your playing in a loop....awesome music

You like? I've had one for a couple years now. Love the ebony neck. Now I gotta get myself a Special or Junior! It never ends, does it
“First thing, ground yourself” so Colin goes round the back and gives himself a serious talking to.

happy easter and educate program very good peace and love to all
Too funny. I guessed it before you revealed it. Only because I am waiting for one too.
Wtf The grounding Crocs Col its like building an old Airfix kit with great content, Mate
As always great improvisation with your playing. Very cool pedal.
ah crap, i missed it. about to "get stuck in" and watch now!
Nice one Colin. It sounds pretty good for the price they’re asking.
My first thought when I saw you playing that SG was a set of those $1000 Gibson pickups. Glad I was wrong!
I love the Pooper Looper move.
Thanks Colin, your vids are a Friday highlight and never cease to make me smile! Your SG sounded nice!
Happy Easter! Cheers Nobby
What a fantastic video have a wonderful Easter long weekend Colin also Sunday is my younger sister birthday ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
The first thing that alarmed me also was the amount of Goop that was supplied, usually with gluey things like this you get a sachet of the stuff!

Going to pick up my Epi JJN used Old Glory today in just a l'il while. New guitar + gear day all over the world.

Happy Easter, our British friend! Another enjoyable video, a bit different than the rest! Chase the tone…
Whatever you think of the NOTAKLON, it's quite a NOTASPOILER for nice infectious tones.
