"Make Noise is proud to introduce Strega!
Strega is an audio alchemical experiment. Activate! Spill the tonic into time and let time decay through the filter to hear the results.
Strega is an instrument designed in collaboration with Alessandro Cortini. Inspired by Cortini's music and sonic experimentations, Strega embodies the seen and unseen, the sign and magic, the alchemy of sound.
Strega is able to conjure audio tones, generate control signals, and process external sounds. Patch the 0-COAST or any other line level source into the Strega to unlock new sounds!
This new instrument takes the same form factor as the 0-COAST and 0-CTRL. It was designed to be controlled by the 0-CTRL or the 0-COAST's MIDI CV B outputs and is equally happy interfacing with Eurorack modules as well." -Make Noise

I built my system around Strega and it never gets boring to experiment with and regularly sounds sublime.

Nice clear explanation, the strega can be tough to get your head around. It's fun even if you don't understand it but once you get an idea of how it works you can start to reign it in a bit. Just a bit though because it feels like it's always right on the edge complete insanity. Such a cool instrument and a really unique sound.

I've had it since it came out, and I like to incorporate it to my modular techno setup as another voice with unique textures. I LOVE IT

By far my favorite YT video on the Strega. Absolutely masterful job of explaining all the components and how they interact. The sound you achieve around 10:47 is insane! The Interference section was especially illuminating. The spring reverb you achieved around 18:37 reminded of a Buchla or EMS spring! AND then that comb filter-pure Autechre vibes! For me, personally, I think the Strega is one of my favorite dream machines. I can get lost in its sound world for hours. I wish teenagers all over the world could put on some headphones and get lost in Strega. Thanks, again! Just so so great.

Thanks. Literally the only video I've seen that helps this machine make sense. Demonstrating how great it is is one thing. Knowing whether I can make it sound great is another matter. This was helpful for the latter.

thank you for this! i have had this synth since release and have struggled to get my head around it, aside from using it as a nine inch nails drone macine, but this was just the direction i needed.

Thanks for inspiring me to get back into it as I have never really gelled with it after a year. The touch pads have never really excited me but will certainly give it another go. I now have the 0 coast so hopefully it will grow for me. Big learning curve for me.

Don't be afraid to touch it. Utilize the touch points when you're patching those louder/wilder sounds! Also play with HOW long one finger sits on a touch point i.e., press one down and lift up the other quickly like you are "drumming" with your fingers.
The STREGA really is unique in so many ways.💡🎵🤙🏽🎛🔥❗

Great rundown! I’ve had it since release and still learned a couple of things here. Love the methodical breakdown and then exploration. My favorite thing about the Strega is the balance of voice and effects in a standalone device, equally great for just laying back on the couch with a handful of patch cables, as it is patched into a bigger rack.
Would be interesting to see your take on the Bastl SoftPop 2.

5:38 (ish) I love how their synths sound so FAT! The 0-Coast's most basic patch could easily be like the new age P-bass. I have enjoyed my 0-Coast, especially combining it with the Minibrute 2S, but at times it's felt like it's missing a piece. Maybe this could be it? 🤔

I just received mine today! I’m excited to get familiar with it and get on RUclips soon. I would like to point out the power to the Strega will power all 3 in the set, obviously a fantastic way to sell the rest of the set! I haven’t decided yet, I consider the Strega as a real unique noise engine that will phatten up the sound! I have the step pro as well, I am on a loop kick because of some new gear I got. It is extremely phat! Unfortunately I have all the modules, I have all the power, but need to build some racks! I have all the stuff! lol, this is an excellent video, I look forward to what else you got! peace! I don’t know about interference it sounds more like very modulated LFO, just my opinion lol.

This has the be the clearest explanation of the Strega I’ve seen from a synthesis standpoint. (Would love the sound at 10:50 to be the carrier for a vocoder.)
When you turned up the attenuverter to the filter, it sounded like the cycling rate was being tracked in some manner.
I had mostly been thinking of this as a sound processing source and less as a synth. You changed that…

kick ass vid bro. I just found your channel while researching the Strega. I'll be watching all your vids. So do you know if patching overrides the touch points? basically, I want to know if I can get the same function with out the touch pads. because it would seem weird to only get the max performance with only the touch pads. or maybe a way to attached connections to the touch pads? but great overview. now I'm going to get one.

The reason I guess that some might struggle to get their head around it is the use of non-standard terminology for many of that parameters on the interface. It's confusing to just introduce new terms for what are already pretty well established norms. That and the UI is pretty much a mess. I like Make Noise and I think with most of their gear there is a usually good balance between the functionality of their UI and their kooky artwork. But not where Strega is concerned

Yeah agreed. I like their stuff, but greatly dislike how they obfuscate instead of enlighten. It doesn't enhance the mystery and exploration for me. It just annoys.

I completely figured out Strega in like couple of hours, 0-Coast is more confusing to my taste. Too much lines that blur my vision :) Strega is much more simple and transparent

I have noticed a disturbing trend for vendors (including Patchwerks) to jack up the prices of things 10% or 20% or more over MSRP. Especially if they happen to be the only people who have the item. I expect this garbage on Reverb, but this is a disappointment. Buyer beware. Perfect Circuit does not seem to be doing this so far.

    • @PatchwerksSeattle
      @PatchwerksSeattle  2 года назад +1

Hi there - always feel free to shop around for the best price! Manufacturers in our industry generally set a "minimum advertised price" which means retailers aren't allowed to advertise a product for less than the manufacturer sets. However, there are usually no rules for advertising products for more than the manufacturer sets. For desirable or hard to get products, it's up to the retailer to decide, and sometimes based on certain factors we might have to raise prices to stay in business. That said, we're offering the Strega for $599 which is the same as generally everywhere else. Thanks for watching!
