Nice to see this video brought back loads of memories for me. When I was little we used to visit my aunty for two weeks in the summer. It never rained while we were here and spent many hours on the beach which was way more pebbly then. Times were simpler then and I don't think my grandsons would even last a day there. We loved it there. My aunty has a plaque on the pier and my mum took my uncle's ashes there. I haven't been back for many years but I will always hold a special place in my heart

The empty beaches might have something to do with the water companies dumping tonnes of shite into the sea.
At the moment there are 68 beaches with health warnings. With another 50 advisory.

i went to Southwold by coach a few years ago there were lots of people around at that time also the fish and chips were excellent loved the lighthouse as well all for 10.00 from Shenley

I don't know comparative prices in the UK and states, but across the pond everything is getting ridiculously expensive. Everything, from a pastry, to car repair, to rent, to a toothbrush, to a haircut. EVERYTHING. People still spending like drunken sailors though. Mom and daddy's money probably. Never seen such bizarre economic times.

I leave home or stop at an Aldi and get some sandwiches etc. It's not about being able to afford it even it's just the principle and that horrible feeling that you're being ripped off.

School holidays break up next week, so the British beaches ⛱️ will probably get busy. I prefer Phuket bars and beaches, I'm back out there in a month. Karon is my second home, I can't wait.
Salcombe in Devon, followed by Sandbanks in Dorset are the UK most expensive seaside resorts

Blimey, you survived Southwold! On the one hand Southwold has avoided all the chain store eateries such as Costa, Greggs etc. On the other hand decent local food shouldn't be so expensive, but it probably has something to do with the rent. There used to be a delicatessen that sold slices of quiche (you would need to take out a bank loan to buy a slice). That seems to have gone, it looked empty on your video. Pretty sure the old fish and chip shop I went to has gone, probably replaced with a more expensive alternative.

I do like Southwold but only ever go for a day. Very quaint little town and nice sandy beach. No amusements on the pier, so for families it's a cheap day out especially if they take a picnic.
The reason is all the toffs have brought everything even all the houses holiday homes I worked there one winter you could count the lights on the place and the toffs make me sick 🤮
It's only avoided them because the nobs who have bought all the property would want something more upmarket. Hideous shuttered town. When you see the shutters being put in, run for the hills!

Holiday let owners still charge a fortune and when you speak to the shopkeepers they all say they're struggling because people would rather go overseas to get better weather, facilities and cheaper food etc....
A pretty depressing place now, however, the posh middle class love it as it reminds them of the old days when poor people knew their place...
apart from 'chicken feet' that market stall had 'furry rabbit ears' & 'puffed pig snouts' - quite bizarre, do you grill fry or roast 'furry rabbit ears' and does the fur get in your teeth? The nicely lighted background & beautiful skyline when drinking Budweiser was epic, they should give you some royalties on that lol

Hello from CA. We are living in "Orwell" times. Phones are giving instructions. Beach huts for wind breakin, learn something new! Must be cold. Easy to meet meet people in Southeast Asia. People are crawling thru borders to get the US(labor for agriculture). Don't kid yourself, learn something from the immigrants! They would jump on the chance to come here! I love Asia but always remember the visa issues.

If that is peak season then they've got huge problems and, you are right, the prices are outrageous. Those snacks at probably double or more the price you'd even pay here in Sydney Oz and things are by no means cheap here. Every right to have a moan there for sure. How come the summer temperatures are only ranging from about 19 to 22 degrees there buddy. Is that normal for the 'hottest' months? A massive contrast to places elsewhere in Europe where they are suffering with 45 degree plus days. Maybe avoiding Greece is not such a bad idea right now with Athens cooking some days over 45 degrees. Anyway another good one Sean. Cheers buddy. 🤩

I’m not sure what you’re expecting in terms of prices at a seaside resort , you’re always going to pay a bit more because of location and seasonality ,shops and businesses have a small window of the year to make money in the face of high rents

Southwold is lovely and very popular. No idea when you went as its usually quite busy. Prices dont seem overly expensive, just seem typical for this part of the world sadly, not necessarily related just to this town. Still much cheaper then London though

No mate , I think you misunderstood what I was saying ,, I’m on about the lack of people there . We have just picked up 2 holidays where normally you need to be booked in at least a year ahead ,, due to cancellations cause people cannot afford to go . A very nice cottage in Northumberland with a very nice 30% discount on it , then back to the same villa we went to in March this year in lanzarote that was booked solid for the next 18 months. I agree with the sausage roll bit , I’d have walked out there and gone hungry tbh at them prices . Having said that I got rinsed in Hadleigh last year 2 coffees and the misses wanted a sausage roll , never looked at the price , we paid after we had finished , that came to £14 😂 when I asked what that was all about , the sausage roll was £8 😂 ffks !
