Bit of an exaggeration. It's a meat pie and bland mash with some sauce on it. I get the comfort food angle but it's hardly got the complexity or surprise of expensive top-level cooking.

Why doesn’t the city protect this establishment as a heritage site like we do in the states? It is a great way to preserve this place for generations to come.

The Man clearly said people come straight from the Airport to get a Photo with him, and to have some traditional Hearty Food . The City would be wise to put protections in Place, Or Tax Breaks , the same way they give Big Corporations Tax Breaks to lure them in.. Just Smart Business and common sense to preserve these Places.

I think ive tried most of the shops now and for any visiting tourist looking to try it, all the shops are similar with their pies with a nice amount of ground beef and gravy, steamy mash and parsley liquor but i have to say Cooke's serve a damn good pie.
The actual only way to do that would be to deny visas to foreigners in London or the very least reduce immigration to almost zero. London's and by extension the rest of the UK's culture and history are slowly eroding away because of every government for the last 50 years has failed on immigration and how to control it. They are far more interested in virtue signalling to even dare to appear controversial in tackling a major, major problem in the UK.

Immigration is good if planned and the UK isn't a free for all place, and it is controller well. With these things the government has to put in a plan to preserve and promote what they have like other European countries, but they don't. In short I dont think keeping the culture to yourself is the way, it should be shared and preserved!

What's the point in fighting for it to stay around? Anyone with common sense will know that this part of our culture will be lost due to ethnic minority levels increasing in London. Predictions are 80% will be non British by 2050, who have totally different cultures to our own. They won't be queuing up for pie and mash, that's for sure. They will all go out of business, unfortunately. Would you see a pie and mash shop like this in Iraq? Brazil? Italy? Spain? Nope.
