I'm a Kelly's person because I'm based in Bow East London but right now it's absolutely crucial to support every single traditional pie N mash shop! It's part of such a crucial culture we just can't lose it. Let's face it we've lost so much already. This looks like a fantastic place I can't wait to try it.
I was bought up on the Aylesbury Estate - Chartridge - Westmoreland Road.... (I am an out n out cockney wide boy) Enjoying Arments Pie Mash from the 70s, up until present day.. Even though I now live in the West Midlands, I've ordered from your delivery service and Arments (WORLD FAMOUS) Pie Mash - Tastes as good as ever! I've tried cookes and some other LESS FAMOUS/UNKNOWN Pie mash shops, AND 'NONE' COME EVEN CLOSE!! Thank you for sustaining a lifetime of good cockney tradition. Arments! F-The Haters! Your legend speaks for itself!! I'll be ordering again soon! Much love and respect!! 🙏🏽💛 🥧 🥔 🌱
I'm out of England I bloody miss arments. As a kid we used to travel all the way from Basildon back in the early 90s and been eating it all my life. My dear old grandmother at 104 before she passed could still eat 2 pie and mash on a good day
Yep. Me too, also Hitch’s in High Street Stratford before the street was knocked down :( As a long term expat myself I’ve learned to cook my own. I’ve mastered the liquor (even found eels in Cambodia!) and the mash is no issue. Also the filling and the top pastry. My only remaining thing to crack is the bottom pastry…still haven’t got that quite right…
Walworth road back in the day was the place to be on a Saturday and Sunday....East Street market, sarsaparilla stall and the cockle and muzzle stall, Dannys leather coat shop, Guvnors clothes store and Baron John, Panache shoe shop Then a pint in the Temple Bar. Oh...not forgetting Kennedy's sausages to take home for Sunday breakfast.
I still miss the breakfast sausage they used to do, as a kid id devour an entire kilo bag on my own. Never been able to find out what it quite was since they closed :(
2 pie , single mash and liqour. Food of the gods. My grandparents loved it and it has passed down to me and I'm 52. Arments is my favourite. Always got a few pies in the freezer too!!!
The best pie and mash shop in London in my opinion! My family have been coming here for years and will continue to do so forever hopefully. We absolutely love it! Friendly staff and a little piece of happiness us true Londoners enjoy from time to time. I work in TV and happy to see a well made short piece on Arments. Nice one ❤
Pie Mash and Liquor is Heaven on Earth. A real true Londoner is not a Londoner if they do not eat pie mash. Eels, liquor and mash and jellies eels are also gorgeous. The only good thing left about London is Pie and Mash Shops May Arments keep going, here's to another 100+ years 👍🏻😁🍺🍻
My family get it delivered to Somerset and Cornwall and freeze it. If you follow the instructions, it's a good as eating it in the shop. Only difference is you don't have a chance of seeing the gorgeous Lorraine.
There were two Arments shops, Walworth Road and Westmoreland Road. I lived in Harry Hinkins House out behind the M&S on Cadiz Street. For the last 21 years I've lived in New Zealand and really miss pie n mash (and stewed eels). I remember having to walk the length of the shop to get myself a beaker of water from a jug. The beakers were all different colour's. Not a bad memory for a man who's now in his 60's, in fact, a very happy memory
I’m a East Londoner and I was taken here for a double double and I must say it’s a proper tidy bit of grub. Il get shot for saying it but honestly one of the best P&M iv had even though it’s in bandit country 😉⚒
I had a stool in Westmoreland road but after tasting at Arments I always went to manzes in tower bridge rd Best in london. Used to cycle from the blue to manzes every Saturday lunchtime to bring pie & mash and liquor home to my family .in the 1950 ,s this was our fast food takeaway
I have had pie and mash but never had pie and liquor, that green gravy. I do not think I could eat jellied eels! 😂 but if ever I am in England, I would try this restaurant’s meal.
The liquor (green gravy - parsley sauce) is a traditional accompaniment to London pie and mash. Originally, the pies were eel pies as these were plentiful in the River Thames, and the liquor used to contain some eel juice. The liquor was then served with beef steak pies. You can read a little more information here armentspieandmash.com/british-pie-week-2022/. If you're ever in England, we look forward to serving you!
I’ve eaten at over 60 pie & mash shops and Arments is the only one I know that doesn’t brown the meat before baking. I was brought up on F.Cooke in Broadway Market & Dalston, so they’ll always be my favourite, but Arments was pretty good.
Cookes Kingsland Road had an opened window in the front of the shop. On the counter were two large metal trays containing live eels .and you could choose your eel and the man would prepare it for you to take it home. I used to drive from the high Cross in Tottenham to cookes to get our pie mash and liquor. My brother in law wag would always ask for two portions of liquor.
Never had pie and mash in my life. Always looked un appealing and bland. Recently, Especially after watching docs about traditional London food, i'm interested in trying some. The thing thats had me intrigued and impressed about these places is that strong sense of tradition and pride in the product from the shop owners and the customers. Hope no one gets offended if i tuck in using a fork instead of a spoon..😂

I can be wrong once but not twice well there won’t be a third time 2/10’ with me

Never had pie and mash in London but have once or twice in southern Spain and with chili vinegar it's morish
Is there any seasoning used at all in the pie filling or the mash? It looks very British (bland) to me. But I would try.

Didn't see any jellied eels being sold....sign of the times.

Lets see the liquor being made, next vid!😊🙂
I will visit
Does anyone know if you can have it gravy if you don't want the liqueur?
Yes they do Beef Stock gravy in case you don't want the liquor. The liquor doesn't contain Eels any longer, just parsley based.
A northerner here, for those who eat eels...stewed or jellied?
Both. Not on the same plate though :)
@@bob_the_bomb4508 tried jellied eels once and after scraping jelly off think I liked the eel, but that was 30yrs ago, would need to try again

Not sure about liquor can you have gravy or curry instead?
No you can't!!,there tell you to leave the shop,if you did ask for Gravy or curry,it's a London dish not Northern.
We do serve gravy instead of liquor John for those who prefer it, but as liquor is traditional we have to keep it under the counter! :-)

Traditional pie and mash mashed potato does not have any butter or milk added to it. If it did it would not be authentic.
