What a great find Darren, Sam seems such a lovely lady, what an asset she is to that place. Wishing you well for your future Sam. Both meals looked gorgeous and as for that gravy....just how I like it. If you’re ever up in Skipton, Yorkshire, there’s a great pie and mash shop there too. Don’t think they do liquor though. 🤔xx
That pie and mash looks good daz chilli vinegar that sounds fantastic mate I'm gonna make my own that sounds good macmaster with the gravy lol I love gravy myself being a northerner stoke on trent actually but the liquor gravy looks good to matey
Absolutely! Beautiful young lass, and she looks so happy, which is great. And only worked there for a week, she was born for customer service, amazing.
Love Sam's story - working class East End may be hanging on by its fingertips but its there and needs to be acknowledged and celebrated - like great chip shops and great curry houses - very few of us can afford the salt bae nonsense
It's great people like Sam who actually make a business! So often, where I live, the staff couldn't care less and are almost rude! Sam, you're a breath of fresh air!!:) Good on you 👍
Absolutely mate. This young lass Sam, I hope she is still there... If I had a business she would be the template for an employee... Such an amazing person.
What a lovely young boy and his mum so nice. Hope things continue to go well for her and her family. The food looked delicious. Please continue to go to these places as a daily dose of your video keeps me from feeling too homesick. Thanks.
Used to have a pie and mash take away every Saturday lunchtime from Nathans at the Boleyn, Upton Park. That was back in the 70s 😂 Glad to see the tradition lives on! Cheers Darren
Wow. Lee said just recently he hardly ever gives a 10. What an amazing review and Sam.. You are amazing. I love great service. I hope you get all the rewards there you deserve.
What an amazing place & food and Sam was genuinely happy to work there & it showed will exemplary customer service c/w killer smile ! Lee said she made his day eating in there and you can't get better than that from a customer. Great video and I agree with you Darren - off the charts !!
Great Vlog, what a place . Sam a fantastic asset to the business great customer service , gorgeous lady with a winning smile good look to her and Reggie. Pie mash and gravy one of my favourite but will definitely try the liquor when i get chance to go to London and love vinegar on my pie 🥧 👏👏
Another cracking food review Daz. Apart from the actual food review itself which was off the charts. I've got to say... What a lovely touch involving little Reggie and his mum Sam. I think you made their day as well as mine. Nice one fella... 👍👍👍😁
Well done guy’s!!! Sam was so cute!! Very friendly, bubbly, warm and welcoming!! Loved her story, she is going to be very very popular there if she carries on what she’s doing! 😉 deserves all the plaudits awarded👍👍 great vlog, I really need to try proper Pie n Mash!! Amazing guys! 👌👌 All the best.
I was only at the pet shop next door the other day. I’m from Yorkshire but my nephew lives in Mile End. It’s a lovely area, so much more to see than all those usual tourists spots xxx
Your most inspiring vid yet you two! The grub and ambience looked knockout, proves simple things not messed with are the BEST for a hungry tummy. Not forgetting a decent cup of Rosie! Sam a proper London girl, full of warmth, charm and smiles to greet and serve, what could be better?
Wow pie and mash looks amazing...liquor or gravy both looked great to me ... So nice of you to give Sam and Reggie air time , its so nice to have smiley service and Sam had it in spades ..great video Darren ... nice sincere words from both of you ... "off the charts".... take care 😃 x
I think this is the #1 Pie and Mash in London. It has a much deeper flavor than the other ones I've tried in the east end. Particularly the pie crust has a buttery, crispy, flakiness to it and the flavors just taste richer. Highly recommend Maureen's.
Great video mate. What a lovely story about the lady who works there lovely lady good luck to her and her son. Many thanks again Darren and the macmaster for another fantastic plog.👌👌👏👏👏👏👏
I have made liquor at home in a large stock pot. What I use apart from fresh flat leaf parsley and plain flour is some mash for extra thickening and 2 fish stock cubes to replace the eel juice. Tastes bang on.
Darren I do love Maureens Pie Mash Back in the 1980's Maureen had a shop on the Isle of Wight in Shanklin It was great. Use to visit every day when on holiday. I have also been to Chrisp Street shop Maureen use to be where the Eastenders shop is before moving to the Island. Of the 3 pie mash shops I give Mauree the edge. There small pies are also great and their salt beef. Jason runs a great shop Thank you for showing us Best wishes Stay safe Regards Lee 👍🏻😁
@@DarrenJohn Will definitely pay that one a visit. Everyone swears by Arments, the colour of their liquor puts me off, however I won't knock it till I've tried it.
Nice update chaps, well I was planning to make a lasagne for our scran today however a pie and mash seed has now been planted in my head, out to the greenhouse it is to pick some parsley for the liquor. Well done Sam. 👍
Those pies look devine, and think I would need to have some of that chilli vinegar that sounds amazing. Mash looked really nice and smooth too. The place also looked nice and friendly which is always a plus point. I am also a sucker for nice artwork which looked amazing. Also Sam was awesome so I would give this a 9.8 xxx
I used to live in Poplar . We went back to our roots , went down Chrisp Street Market and had Maureen's pie & mash which was nice. But so upset the way it's changed so much around there. Soon went home again. lol
Love a bit of pie and mash,only ever made it myself.Would never of thought having parsley type sauce with it would work but it does and then some! Missed out adding chilli vinegar so that is next on the to do list. : }
Glad you done it 👏 I knew you would love it, For me they are top's nice to see you had the classic Mug of Tea, I make my tea that way good and strong, And it is a fantastic shop, Not been to Maureen's for decades I will go back to where I grew up. The old stomping ground. Trip from Essex Sooooon! Great you keeping it real. Keep up the good work. Lovely story about Sam 😎😎😎
My dad was born in Plaistow and I was born in Canning Town. I am now in Ontario and would love to be able to get pie, mash and liquor here. Very few chippy's here and getting decent fish and chip anywhere in a restaurant is difficult. The first thing I crave when I am back in the U.K is 2 Holland's steak puddings in a tray with chips, mushy peas and gravy. Soon to be followed in the next few days by Soreen malt bread and a Melton Mowbray meat pie with Colmans mustard.
There’s a good one in Romford, Robins Pie and Mash but they’ve recently had to put price up £5 for pie and mash. It’s traditional to eat with spoon and fork.
Food of the gods! Seriously, can't believe gravy is served in a pie and mash shop. I'm a Cockney and we'd never allow it! 🤣🤣🤣 I normally turn the pies over. I always go for a fork and spoon - much easier. I absolutely drench it in vinegar, open the pie up and drench inside. I'm now hungry. Will have to pop by and get some!
Hi Darren i remember as a young boy growing up and living in the east end, pie and mash was a must have before watching West ham. When the family moved to the coast it was impossible to find anywhere
Aww wish we had something like that in Glasgow.Looked so tasty. Awww that's so nice the girl Sam got a job. Always nice to hear people getting a wee break. Happy weekend Darren. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Hi Darren, firstly I'd like to say I truly love your video's. You know your food and are honest in your reviews. I find your content both educational and a brilliant foodie guide to the big smoke. Please keep it up. I wanted to ask if one was to do a pie n mash crawl, would Maureen's be your top spot, then maybe B. J's and have you any plans to review F. Cooke at Hoxton, which is the oldest existing shop in the East End apparantly. Would deeply appreciate your proven wisdom. Many thanks.
