    My parents from Ireland cooked up a fry every weekend here in the States. I was never much for baked beans, and didn't do the mash with cabbage. The most difficult items to get in the States are the black pudding, the Irish sausages (American breakfast sausage is different) and thicker bacon. But there are several Irish shops in Boston, MA where they make their own sausages and black and white puddings. The entire fry was washed down with plenty of pot brewed, loose Lyons or Barry's tea.

      Totally agree. Beans have no place on a traditional full English, a fry up yes, if you like them(I don’t). Baked beans were only imported by Fortnams around the turn of the century and only started becoming popular after the war( they weren’t rationed).

    This isn't the only classic 'English Breakfast' however. Kippers with a fried or poached egg is also a very good alternative and far healthier too. People would of course vary their diet and not all of the ingredients would be served in a home as Austin rightly suggests to us. A traditional Welsh breakfast using laverbread is also an alternative from the UK, but this video is about the English breakfast. Personally and even though I am Welsh, I like the English breakfast, but I wouldn't want to eat it every day. A good black pudding is very delicious, but 'bubble and squeak' was not something that was ever served in my family or extended family. Any leftovers would be used to make a late night supper called 'broes'.

    A good full English breakfast depends on the quality of the ingredients and how well (or not) the ingredients are cooked.
    Cheap sausages with a low meat content will ruin the dish. You want 70% meat at the very least. And cheap bargain basement bacon is another surefire way to ruin a fry-up, especially if it's undercooked and anaemic.

If you tell me it's alligator meat, I'll probably give it a go. But if you trick me into eating it telling me it's chicken, then wait until after the fact, that's when I get crossed up.

    How about a fresh breakfast sandwich and have that scrumptios meal as lunch or dinner instead?

    • @JimCarner777
      @JimCarner777 15 дней назад

      There's no mystery, it's often eaten for breakfast (although an all-day breakfast is also a thing).
      Traditionally people who do hard manual jobs eat a full English breakfast, e.g. farmers, labourers, builders, people who work on roads/railways, etc.
      Years ago I knew a farmer who had a full English every day of the week. He wasn't fat at all because he burnt off all the calories working on the farm.
      I eat a full English maybe once or twice a month. I couldn't eat one every day, and I wouldn't want to either. It wouldn't be healthy for me to do so.

    Baked beans were introduced from America to the British diet. Otherwise they would have used smoked eel before the war.

    Apart from beans and black pudding, it's actually sounds pretty neat. Sometimes they put, hashbrowns and toasts on the side too.

    Did hw say Caff and not Café?

    • @JimCarner777
      @JimCarner777 15 дней назад

      'Caff' is a common British English pronunciation to differentiate a place that serves fry-ups* from what most people would consider to be a café (i.e. a coffee shop that also sells tea, cakes, pastries, etc). Caffs are usually nothing like cafés, even if they serve coffee, especially in terms of decor (or rather lack of it), and in terms of clientele. Well, and the food too obviously.
      Very often a 'caff' will have a sign that says 'cafe' but without the accent over the 'e', hence the pronunciation.
      Related terms are 'truckers caff', 'transport caff' (or 'truck stop'), which is a roadside eatery where truckers can eat. Often they'll do a range of (hearty traditional) meals, not just fry-ups. Some may have showers as well.
      *A fry-up could be a full English (breakfast), but it could also consist of any of the components that make up a full English. If in Wales or Scotland ask for a full Welsh breakfast or a full Scottish breakfast. After all, Welsh and Scottish people aren't English. In Northern Ireland ask for an Ulster fry. They're not English either.
