This is one of the reasons we are coming back next year. We were totally blown away by the views up there. Just breathtaking. We want to do the hike next time. We can't wait.
I just found your video. This is the best representation of this journey I have seen. Excellent video, well explained, and crystal clear camera work. Thank you.
Hoi Greg! I do have to say, it's getting better and better how you create content about the wonderful Switzerland 👍👍👍 I am super happy for it! Keep your good work!
Thank you for such a helpful and beautiful video! I love Switzerland with all my heart and truly is Heaven on Earth! I and can’t wait to return for the 12th time!❤
This is the best video representing Schynige Platte, its not in my itinerary but now its one of the place i want to see including Iseltwald, which you made an amazing video as well.
I have to agree… the most complete place to enjoy the Jungfrau region. The 360° panoramas are awesome. We enjoyed a cloudless day on our own at Daube this summer after the early train. It’s always a must-do when we visit. Thanks for your fantastic videos particularly this one.
We are visiting in Aug 3rd week and this is one of the places we are visiting. Thanks to amazing Greg's Vlogs. Since you would have done this trek from the train station, how long the trek was to the Oberberg view point and was it hard?. I can do it but my wife has limitations due to her bothersome knees. Any info to share will be greatly appreciated in charting out our daily trip plans. Thanks.
An excellent video, great information! I hiked from Schynige Platte to First not too long ago but "cleverly" skipped the ridge walk 🙂It was still a great hike, about 6 hours. I brought some water and a sandwich with me but about halfway through there is a nice place to sit down with a great hot meal: Berghaus Männdlenen. I took one of the last gondolas down to Grindelwald and it broke down, so I ended up dangling from the rope for over 10 minutes, it was very relaxing!
@@HandbagswithHeather I only meant that I didn't research the layout of the trails near the Schynige Platte train station and simply went straight ahead. The straight-ahead trail does not cover the ridge portion (they both join together a bit later, before Loucherhorn). So it was a case of not studying the trails ahead of time (that's why I said "cleverly"). The walk is great. Depending on the time of the year, there may be patches of snow here and there, so use shoes with decent traction. And check when the last gondola to Grindelwald runs or else it's a pleasant but long walk down (this I did do research before the hike).
@@waltermorley5977 I flew my paraglider once from First toward Schynige Platte and it was much faster than walking 🙂I crossed over the ridge past Loucherhorn and landed in Interlaken. Amazing views.
Thanks for video, my travel just finished and your tips were spot on :) I sat on right side, and when a gap came on left side to Interlaken, i was 'damn maybe i sit wrong', but later it turned out to be amazing. Images were epic. The train ride too. The mountains have a very specific look here that i didn't see elsewhere in the massive alps. A certain combination of swirly rocks, grass and trees in a balance that you rarely see.
Thanks so much for coming back to the video and posting this comment! This means a lot!! I am super happy that my tips made you have an great time on Schynige Platte! ⛰️🚀😄 Hope the memories of your trip to Switzerland last for a long time!
36000 images (most are sets of 6-20 to secure a 'tripod sharp image without one), and about 50-200 video takes (very new for me but excited, especially my video's from Aare Gorge excite me but rest as well). The holiday was amazing, did almost everything i wanted. Had a zero cloud day when i went to Junfraujoch (and maxed it out there by walking to Monchjochhutte). Went Oechinensee, Harder Kulm, Hardergrat (Augstmatthorn, schnierenhireli), Brienzer Rothorn, Luzern, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Thun, Underseen (Interlaken), Aareschlucht on rainy day, Giesbachfall/Iseltwalt. A chill day at sigriswill (steep town though!). Ps shortly i though because some images were taken in blatent sun and a bit overexposed that Schyniche platte wasn't worth it, your video proved otherwise, and glad i saw it :D@@SwitzerlandInsider
From my series of comments today, You can tell, i am on a binge watch of your Swiss videos. This is another fine video and a place to visit. We will be in the region from Aug 3rd week for 2 weeks and want to get as much out of Switzerland. Since you did this trek from the train station, how long the trek was to the Oberberg view point and was it hard?. I can do it but my wife has limitations due to her bothersome knees. Any info to share will be greatly appreciated. Once again thanks a Million for your fine information.
The hike is about 1h if you take it slow. It‘s not steep but you walk on a narrow trail so need good balance! To go up that rock you need to be able to climb steep stairs. The other viewpoint is much easier to reach and should not be a problem! I wish you a great trip!
I just watched your newest video of hiking here, and I had to watch this one again. I will be doing this hike soon. Excellent video Greg. Your smile and energy really show the joy. Well edited, and the narration is great too, thank you, Jim
I subscribed when he said "....where I had a glass a Coke and an authentic....oh no, it's Austrian..." That was the most Swiss comment I have ever heard 🤣
Go in July. The flower meadows are in full bloom & a riot of colour. Also recommend getting an early morning train (take breakfast with you). Much quieter first thing before the crowds arrive.
Thank you for introducing these less known spots. I'd like to know more places like this. For example, Stäubifall near Unterschächen, have you been there? It looks spectacular on the google map!
Thank you for creating this video. The information you gave was done really well! We are planning to come during April, so I was disappointed to find out that this hike is not available during that time. It is so beautiful! Is there anywhere else that might come close with a ridge hike like this that would be open in April? Thank you again!
Thank you for a beautiful video! I only have 4 days & do you suggest I skip visiting Harder Klum & do this trip on the cogwheel train to S. Platt? 🤷🏻♀️
Wow! Your video just showed me the one hike I will not miss when my hubby and I go to Switzerland in late August 2024. Thank you! Question: about how much time (hours) should someone plan for this? Not the full hike to but rather than hike up and back to the second viewpoint in your video? I want to make sure I put plenty of time in our itinerary to enjoy this hike without feeling rushed.
Hey, yes you can do a day hike but its long, maybe 6 or more hours. You can search this hike online or follow the yellow hiking signs, as I have never done it.
Hi Greg, just stumbled on to your video today and I subscribed! Do you know what day in May will the cogwheel train starts running again? We are planning to come mid May 2024. Also, do trains run on Sunday or are they shutdown like the stores?
Hi! Thanks for subscribing I appreciate it a lot! The Schnyige Platte Bahn only starts running again on July 1st as per website. These touristy trains run everyday (given they are in season). If you are in the region you can use the Wengernalpbahn (also coghwheel) from Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen! Hope this helps 😊 i will post more videos in the future and will cover the Jungfrau region, so you will know for sure by then 😀
@@SwitzerlandInsider We are also planning to visit Lucerne for a day or two. What restaurants do you recommend and what things should we not miss while there?
So, i'll be going to Interlaken in about a week. It's supposedly a nice time to visit Schynige Platte, right ? also, the 64CHF train ticket, does it include round trip (up-down trip) ? just to confirm aswell, are there trains going up/down several times a day or are we limited on that regard ? thanks
How much time did younspend on the hike while your in the Schynige Platte?is it time consuming to the hike to see the view points? Thanks for your video, hope for your response 😊
Hallo Greg, do we need a reservation for this train? We want to ride the earliest/ first train up so we can hike all day, we have the B Oberland pass. Thank you, Jim.
Hallo Greg, we just got back home, and we hiked this trail, you were right, it Is totally awesome. A beautiful sunny day too. Thank you, Jim.@@SwitzerlandInsider
No you are looking for the Grindewald First - Faulhorn - Schynige Platte. It‘s a one way hike! I plan on doing that hike this summer and make a video about it. So maybe it‘s before your trip 😊 but for this hike you will need to take a gondola in First and a cogwheel trian at Schynige Platte.
It can be narrow, but I don‘t think it should trigger fear of heights. Also the train has stops underway, where you can get out and take another one back 👌😊
That’s the heaven came to the earth. But the Schynige Platte trains offering this part of heaven are shabby and the rails are in bad condition. That’s no good offer from the BOB railways🙀

Hello. Is it possible to get to Schynige Platte on foot from Wilderswil or Gsteigwiler? without using the train
According to my research you can do a hike that is challenging that takes about 4-5hrs. But at the moment the route is closed due to falling rocks.
Thanks. ok, I'm going to Interlaken in June
Can you tell me what time the last train from Schynige Platte to Wilderswil leaves? there is no driving plan on the website yet
is the walking trail up there safe for elder folks ? thanks
I think you can make it, but to be 100% sure i would check with them directly so you can inquire specifically for your case 👌

How much does the second hike through Alpine garden take to reach the viewpoint Daube? Is it safe for kids ?
With kids maybe 30 mins, and yes kids will be fine but you need to tell them that there is no fence next to the cliff! So maybe keep them close.
