Hello! I just returned from my solo trip to Switzerland and I can't thank you ENOUGH! Your videos were beyond helpful- it seriously made my first solo trip so easy and stress free! It was a dream! And it was fun to see all the places from your videos in real life. I already have a list of things to do when I go back- including hiking at Schynige Platte! I caught the last train up on a whim (the forecast promised rain for the rest of the week, so I wanted a clear view!) and LOVED it up there- even in my short time! Honeslty a highlight of my trip. A million thank yous for all your help and all that you're doing! I wish you both well in starting your sweet fam! Can't wait to keep up with all your new content :)
We love hearing about your trip! Thank you for sharing! We're thrilled that we got to be a part of such an amazing experience for you. Thanks for trusting us enough to help you plan your trip. We hope you get to come back to this beautiful country some day soon!
Hi Jana and Brett! My boyfriend/travel buddy and I are currently enjoying our last night in the Jungfrau region and WOW! We can't tell you how helpful your videos have been for us. We followed your step-by-step instructions for this video and had an UNFORGETTABLE day yesterday. From following Brett up the "center trail," to hearing the Alphorns for the first time, this video (and many others) has been our North Star. We can't thank you enough for the work you do. You are the reason we lived our Swiss Alps dreams these past few days. THANK YOU!!! Can't wait to make it back! -Angelina & Alvaro from Miami, FL
We are thrilled to hear that you've had such an amazing time here in the Jungfrau region! We're honored that we got to be a small part of your time here. We truly love what we do and it's always so encouraging to hear how much we're helping others! Thank you for sharing!
Thought you would like some feedback so here goes. My wife and I just came back from a week in Interlaken, and you were right we went there first time around. We would love Wilderswil next time, its a bit more peaceful but still a really good central hub. We absolutely loved Steinenger bakery in Matten. We visited rothorn, Mannlichen, Bern, Grindelwald and schynigeplatte and the last was our favourite. Your videos were an inspiration to us and a huge help in arranging our days, thank you both so much. Wishing you both every happiness in your new home, Dug and Anya.
That sounds like a wonderful trip! And how neat that Schynige Platte was your favorite destination. It sure is beautiful! We’re glad our resources were helpful to you! 🙂
We hope you enjoyed your time there last week! And wow, that’s so encouraging to hear that someone was reading our Guide on the train!! It includes Schynige Platte, so maybe that’s why 🤓
Woah!! This was a maybe for me before but this is now bumped up my list 🤣 I love the open windows in the train and they it’s free with BO pass. wow, riding where u are on the way back seems so cool. i’ll be there in 2 weeks!!
Schynige Platte is one of my favourite places. When I was 10, I stayed in the Hotel Cristina opposite the railway station in Wilderswil with my uncle and aunt. Back in 2007 I stayed in kandersteg with my wife and we took a day trip here and walked down to the intermediate station - amazing views! I seem to remember there being a teddy bear museum up there - is it not there anymore? (And I’m willing to race Brett up the mountain - as long as he’s running and I’m on the train! 😜)
Hi Jana and Brett. I am thinking to go to Niederhorn in the morning and then afternoon on the way back go to schynige platte. What time would you suggest? I have so many new things to do this time, less days, i can't just do 1 thing in 1 days.
That could be a bit tough just because they're a bit far apart and the train to Schynige Platte takes almost an hour one way. Maybe it's better to pair Schynige Platte with something like Harder Kulm or something else around Interlaken?
It will still probably be warm but we always tell people to wear layers! Being in the the valley and then being on the mountain top are two different temperatures so it's nice to dress in layers so you can take off or put on depending on the need. And we always recommend a rain jacket!
Jana and Brett! I have been loving your videos while I plan my Switzerland trip! Question, we will be there next month so Schynige Platte will be closed but I desperately want to do this hike! Is there any option? Like starting at First?
Hi Courtney! Yep, unfortunately Schynigge Platte doesn't open until mid-June. It would be technically possible to hike there from First, but usually snow covers the trail in spots until sometime in June. And since the train isn't running from Schynige Platte down to Wilderswil, you'd have to hike ALL the way down. In short, we wouldn't recommend it for this trip even though we do love Schynige Platte!
I’m heading here next week ahhh! When you say “tennis shoes” will get torn up, do you mean casual sneakers or like, running shoes? I’ll be on a cycling trip and won’t have room for true hiking shoes, so I was going to wear my running shoes that I’ll be cycling in.
Dear Jana and Brett, is there a reservation for this train/cogwheel? If we want to take the first one up. We have the Oberland pass, do we just arrive early and hope to get on the first train up? Thank you, Jim
Hi Jana/Brett Mine is a silly question, please confirm Can you eat inside the train and in the train waiting area while waiting for the train ? Since it goes every hour only Grazie❤
Hi, I’ll be in Interlaken in 2 weeks and planning to hike Schynige Platte because of your videos. Question, do I need to buy the train ticket from Wilderswil in advance? What time is the first trip up? Thanks
You can buy the ticket in advance or the day of. If you download the SBB app then you'll be able to see the time table for train rides on the day your wanting to travel.
Ah yes! They let us sit on the outside on the very end of the train car because the train was really full and we were boarding from the intermediate statino (Breitlauenen). Definitely not the most comfortable, but it was actually super cool!
That's awesome, I shall look closely at this in September when we are there. Thank you both again for all your excellent videos, we so love you two, and we hope to ride the Flyline backward, that looks awesome. Jim@@AplinsintheAlps
Swiss Mobility is the official Swiss app for hikes. It took me a little getting used to but I really like it now. It's only downside is that it gives info on the national and most regional trails only. It doesn't include local trails (even though they're well marked by signposts when you're actually hiking.)
We love the Swiss Topo app! It has been the most helpful to us so far, especially because you can draw your destined route. Thankfully the trail signs are easy to follow in Switzerland too!
We’ve done that route before and it’s stunning! But it’s a longer hike (5-6 hours) and most travelers tell us they only want to walk 2-3 hours. So if you’d like a longer hiked this one if great!

I was there last week. On our train down my co-passenger was reading your guide book. You really are popular.

Hello! When you buy the Berner Oberland Pass, you will choose the validity start date, and it will automatically be valid on the date. Have fun!
Thanks
You're welcome!
Hi! Awesome video🙌 Will we need a reservation for lunch at the panaramic restaurant this summer? We are going end of the month. Thanks!!
Thank you! No, you don’t need a reservation for the restaurant. There are loads of seats outside and inside! Enjoy 😊

Can you suggest clothes for early September visit…??

Hi Brett! Love your backpack! What brand is it?

In our experience, the rocky trails tore up our tennis shoes, especially the toe box. But if you're only hiking once then you could get away with it!
Dear Jana and Brett, is there a reservation for this train/cogwheel? If we want to take the first one up. We have the Oberland pass, do we just arrive early and hope to get on the first train up? Thank you, Jim
Hi Jana/Brett
Mine is a silly question, please confirm

Where can I find the photo spot(5:44)?
Thanks.
I have a question, do you make videos like planned or do you jyst go to switzerland and make them on the fly?
Well, we live in Switzerland so usually we research and visit a place before we film a video - that way you’re getting the best advice from us!
Hi, I’ll be in Interlaken in 2 weeks and planning to hike Schynige Platte because of your videos. Question, do I need to buy the train ticket from Wilderswil in advance? What time is the first trip up? Thanks

Hey wow. Which day you went there for this video. May be we were still there. 😊😅
We actually filmed this before we went to Zermatt so it was right before your trip 😊
What exactly is that spot you were sitting in Brett? it looks real comfy...
Hmmm which spot are you talking about?
On the train, you said you could sit in between the cars if the train was full? It did not look safe or comfy. Jim@@AplinsintheAlps
Ah yes! They let us sit on the outside on the very end of the train car because the train was really full and we were boarding from the intermediate statino (Breitlauenen). Definitely not the most comfortable, but it was actually super cool!

Is it better is go up or go down?
Has anyone come across a good hiking trail app for the swiss alps?

@lauraezell7723 perfect thank you 😊

Get the cable car to First. Walk from First to here and get the train down.
