Watching Ola with a Dimebag guitar playing Pantera hits right in the spot, it just feels correct, I doubt you would ever stop covering Pantera stuff, but please never stop, because of you Pantera became one of my favorite bands
Sounds like any other guitar if you ask me. Which nobody did but we are all professionals here and my professional opinion is it sounds thin in the skin. Maybe my phone speaker not having the Dimestack setting is the problem.
@@paulrockatansky77 the Dean was tuned 1/4 step above E for most of CFH. That Gave a sharpness to that tone thru solid state amp heads. Not sure what amp set up Dime had on CFH.

Even though Dimebag himself said that Dean was his favorite, and the fact that he began his career with Dean, I still thought Washburn IS THE Dimebag guitar. Because during his and Pantera's success career, Dime used Washburn most of the time. And all those original new design of Dime signature were release by Washburn.
Always thought the Washburn line was better! Looked meaner and the paint looked better to me. Never owned either Dean or Washburn dime models but my first electric was a Washburn and it’s still my favorite neck on any guitar I’ve ever played! I didn’t like any of his dean rereleases. I wish Washburn hadn’t gone under. I would love for them to remake his Washburn line properly!
Dime used Dean thru all the glam era records and on their 3 biggest records - CFH, Vulgar, and Driven. So saying he used Washburn most of the time is fairly inaccurate. The Washburn slime is my favorite Dime guitar, but he only used Washburn on Trendkill and Reinventing the Steel, and IMO his tone by then was a shadow of how great it was on those other albums. Dean is nothing to scoff at there.
I've never seen a top mount floyd rose but the dean looks and sounds fine. Personally prefer the washburn flame top but honestly, they both have character and are both very captivating on the eyes.
@@majorlee1 went and looked at pictures of the old MLs and you're right haha, never really noticed it before until now lmao. Not sure how I feel about it though, wouldn't that stop your whammy from achieving maximum "pull" if you will as it would be hitting the body and have no cavity to go through.
@@canadiancombatwombatthe3rd782 It's all dependent on neck angle. Floyds are taller bridges than Strat trems, so they're often recessed to bring them down to the height of a Strat trem. The alternative is to angle the neck pocket, like on Gibson-style guitars. When you have that angle at the neck point the bridge gets raised up, and with that comes the clearance for pull-ups. Obviously the big Steve Vai lion's claw back rout facilitates even more, but with a top mounted Floyd you can typically go up about a Perfect Fourth
@@62SG Question: Even with the angled necks and top-mounts, don't the Floyds still have to be parallel with the body, keeping it from being able to pull up much? I've only played guitars with fully recessed Floyd Rose cavities and the Dimes I have are top-mount Floyd Rose bridges, but have a recessed cavity where the long string locking screws are.

Awesome looking no doubt but 6,500 for a run of guitars that ended on a sour note might be a risky purchase or maybe i am just being paranoid. I feel like the build quality might be lacking.. Once again, Maybe i am just being paranoid..
Does look nice in the quilted! I think all USA Deans have top-mounted floyds don't they? The weird thing there is if it was a USA version of one of Dime's Deans it would make sense, but being a replica of one of his Washy's, then that makes it extra strange to me since all the Washy's were recessed🤣
I bet the wiring on this dean is a piece of art as well, if it was made by Andrew Barnes on the Dean custom shop I would put an acrylic cover on the electronics cavity, just take a look
I just hung out with Rita at Aftershock in Sacramento. Dean is making the new Dimebag line and will be available for purchase hopefully in January. I got to play the prototype along with his original Dean From Hell he played himself. Absolutely amazing and so humbling. Dime was such a great guy and his camp reflects that. I also got to go on Dimes bus with Rita and hang for a bit. So fucking cool. My life is officially complete….

Washburn sounds fuller and more defined. As soon as Ola played the Washburn i heard Dime clearly. The Washburn has that character that sets it apart from the Dean.

There´s a rumour that Dime´s guitars will be produced under Zakk Wylde´s company in the future, Wylde Audio , so basically Schecter. Makes sense, considering he and Dime were close friends.
Thats a false rumor generated by fan speculation based on a random question an interviewer asked Zakk one time. Rita has released no statements on the matter. I wouldn't hold my breath.
The Dean Southern Cross is equal to the Washburn Southern Cross, but real Dimebag Fans will find the Washburn better because the Washburn Southern Cross was built in Dimebag's lifetime who he played this too.
On the one hand, I dig the quilted top of the Dean much more than the flame top of the Washburn, and I'm glad that the Dean doesn't have the diamond volute... On the other hand, the Washburn doesn't have that chonker of a neck heel that the Dean has, probably allowing for a less awkward positioning of the thumb at the higher frets. As far as top-mount vs recessed Floyd Rose... I think recessed looks much sleeker.
Maybe not better then the Washburn (the Whale) but still a killer Southern Cross.. and being a guitar nerd, I will just say Dean makes some sick guitars and has great attention to detail. Ola open up the electronics cavity it's crazy how they do the wiring on the USA models
I find it weird that Washburn gets associated with Dime so much. He played Deans in the 80s before Pantera were famous. I stopped listening to Pantera when the whole washburn era happened so its clearly a generational thing for me (same with James Hetfield playing Gibson Explorers years before ESP ever came along). Dean were Dean Zelinski owned at that time, and Dean today is a very different company owned by completely different people. I love Washburns... I have an 80s A15 with the V neck and its lovely. one day I will finish rebuilding it!
Same. I was 12 or 13 when cowboys from hell came out. For a short time we got this metal channel on a.m. radio that played cfh non stop since they were a Texas station. I remember seeing him with Dean and Randall which were basically looked at like pawn shop gear

So I really love Dimebag's signature guitars, I tryed a bunch from some friends but there's a reason why I don't, and that's the 22 frets, I really can't play on a 22, I just love 24 and shredding on them. But still have fun with ur new guitar mr. Englund!
I understand with the production Dime models having the DMT pickup makes sense as a cost saving measure. Putting it in a limited run USA model instead of the ‘59 seems a little weird to me.
Seems like the cross on the body of the Dean has something odd in regard to proportion. Love the quilt and love the body shape, but like my Razorbacks - not the most fun to transport in a small vehicle (huge cases). That said, would love to have one but will most likely never get to play a note on either version. Congrats to Ola, both guitars a player of his skill deserves! Rock on! 🤘

In this review I like Dean’s sound and colours more then Washburn, it’s just my private opinion, especially Floods riffs playing, anyway both guitars are perfect so it’s only everyone’s opinion to choose da favourite one. Thanks Ola for making the comparison
@@diabeticmonkey not really. The Dimebolt is very different from the Dean From Hell. The DFH is black and blue with the white bolt and the glow around it. The Dimebolt is blue with lightning bolts over a maple top.

The fact it's not routed at the tail end of the Floyd has me both concerned and curious. Imo it needs that routed area to sit more flush, high squeals and more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes
I was wondering if you're willing to do a classic Fender amplifier "will it chug?" episode. They have a shitton of amps but I never see metal guys playing those. Do they have any gain at all? When boosted? Looking at schematics from the first glance they don't differ too much from your classic Marshall amp. Still your regular couple of preamp tubes and the push pull power amp stage. When Tiny Terror can do metalesque, why couldn't Fender? EDIT: got it, you've already made one. :D
the DEAN looks and sounds algood but in a side- by- side comparison with the the WASHBURN, it'll make a great coffee table! maximum love and respect from a "die hard" pantera fan........

Washburn is tuned down to D standard, so it nails those Pantera vibes better. The Dean is in E standard. The quilt top looks better, imo.

As legend has it, Dime drilled out his first Dean so he could fit a Floyd Rose in it.
Honestly, I think the quilt top looks so much better. Then again, given the choice, I'd always pick quilt over flame.

It’s a USA model their all top mounted with dean for dimes. Not sure if they always did this or just started like two years ago.
Not all USA's have a top mount, I've got the first Dean USA DimeSlime (made in 2012) recessed floyd :)

James only played Gibson Explorers for 3 years 1984-87 before moving to ESP 1987-current.

It is super weird that the USA model doesn't just come with a 59. Odd but then again Dean has been in a weird place for a while.

Am I the only one who wants to see Ola play more in his videos? He's a funny guy and I love to hear him talk about Metal, but I always feel blue-balled when the riffs are over.
In this review I like Dean’s sound and colours more then Washburn, it’s just my private opinion, especially Floods riffs playing, anyway both guitars are perfect so it’s only everyone’s opinion to choose da favourite one. Thanks Ola for making the comparison

@@diabeticmonkey not really. The Dimebolt is very different from the Dean From Hell. The DFH is black and blue with the white bolt and the glow around it. The Dimebolt is blue with lightning bolts over a maple top.

I think the Dean is great, and so is the Washburn. Ultimately you should cherish both as individual entities

My all time favorite is the Washburn Snakeskin Ml that Washburn brings to Dimebag on Pantera 3 movie.Just looked so cool,Ive never been able to find one!!!🤨🙁🤪👍

The fact it's not routed at the tail end of the Floyd has me both concerned and curious. Imo it needs that routed area to sit more flush, high squeals and more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes

Hi Ola! You should try the Tc Electronics Sentry noise gate, it seem to be the best noise gate at the moment

I was wondering if you're willing to do a classic Fender amplifier "will it chug?" episode. They have a shitton of amps but I never see metal guys playing those. Do they have any gain at all? When boosted? Looking at schematics from the first glance they don't differ too much from your classic Marshall amp. Still your regular couple of preamp tubes and the push pull power amp stage. When Tiny Terror can do metalesque, why couldn't Fender?

the DEAN looks and sounds algood but in a side- by- side comparison with the the WASHBURN, it'll make a great coffee table! maximum love and respect from a "die hard" pantera fan........
