you need some packs girl! my favs are the university one (for the clothes and hair, also fun modern decor), vampire and island living ones (fun magic gameplay and unique building/decor items), and my favs for furniture and build mode is cats and dogs, the movie night one, and tiny living. also you can look up cheats so you can place furniture without it clicking into place (so you can center things) and so it doesnt matter if the objects intersect/overlap.
My advice for the house would be to make it WAY smaller, the smaller it is the easier it is to fill up and make look good:)

You can download a house from the gallery or if you’d like to make your own house watch some sims youtubers like devonbumpkin, and msgryphie they are excellent builders and you can get inspiration and a feel for what you can do in the game. 😊

sims without any packs can sometimes get a little dry. packs are really expensive though. you could always try adding customs content or mods to liven it up though

Great building tip! When placing objects, hold the alt key-it means you can place/move objects wherever, so you don’t have to stick things where the grid allows! It’s a great fix for when something awkwardly won’t centre like the fireplace
you should get the Dream Home Decorator pack, its focused on interior design and even has cool items!
or maybe try sims custom contents!
And since you're doing a little bit of realism, you could do the career that comes with it since you do so many real life renos
For more furniture either download custom content or more game packs! Custom content is free but you have to make sure they’re up to date so they don’t break the game lol. Custom content is 110% worth it if you watch some tutorials. Your house will go from basic to boujie real quick 👏🏻 also custom content for your sims to make them more realistic and cute.
It would be so fun if you get the pet expansion pack and make a dog like chip! Though I understand if you don't because the packs are so darn expensive

Some tips for your gameplay Mia!
The base game is pretty boring; you may want to buy a pack or 2. I think youd live the new interior designer one, or the pets one. You could also add some CC (custom content) but that takes a bit more computer knowledge to use. If you dont mind spending a bit of money the expansion packs are easier. Each have a theme and can add gameplay/decor items. (You can preview what you get with each one in the Store.) Lots of options depending on how you want to play and how you like to decorate.
You have to enter the cheat codes every time you open the game. I'd definitely recommend the moveobects cheat and the showhiddenobjects as well. Itll give you a lot more decorating abilities for items and the placement. Also, helpful keybinds: the + and - lets you view different colors before placing an item. 0 and 9 raises/lifts the items up. [ and ] can make items smaller/bigger as well! Finally, pressing alt while you place things lets you move them around a bit more freely.

I also struggled with building in the sims 4 the first time. There are some amazing content creators out there who only make Sims building tutorials for RUclips. They have really neat tricks and that's how I was able to slowly build my skill up :)
I definitely agree with you Mia, it’s way more fun to play sims with a bunch of sims in a household. Then it’s kind of a challenge to manage everyone and their goals

To make your house look better on the outside, make it smaller and add "bumpouts". Add a roof using the free roof feature and you can also landscape. Also, the front of your house isnt painted. I lobe this series💕

If you wanted to purchase expansion packs to up your sims experience, as a massive sims 4 player, the packs I would recommend starting with is: Seasons, university (you would especially love this one), and cottage living (the new one! adds cows, chickens, llamas, bunnies, farming etc)!! :)

Download a cute empty house off the gallery and furnish it. A lot of us builders upload empty versions of our builds so people can make them their own. Also look up cute houses and try to make them from the outside in. That's how I got started🤷🏽♀️

I think it would be cool if you made your "moving out" house as close as you can as your sims house. you did the sims room transformation...its kinda like doing the opposite, taking what you have in real life and making it sims. i mean...your sim already looks like you...let make it authentic gurrlll!!! I feel like you should make the house into a simple big box with a smaller box next to it. It makes a simple box shape into something more interesting. You can click on the exterior walls and drag around until you get the shape you want. I would also suggest to only use the gabled roof pieces to make it easier. :) I think you might benefit from watching lilsimsie’s roofing tutorial but also some more basic building tutorials. I love watching you learn how to play my favorite game! Please keep this series going :)

I've been playing sims sense the first one and watching you learn to play reminds me of teaching my kids how to play. My oldest who's 10 died within 5 mins of playing
Mia, a new pack is out and it’s basically cottage core themed. You can have chickens, cows, llamas, gardens and there is a challenge where every food you consume has to be self-produced. I think you would enjoy that!!
this video is really fun girl!! You should do a rags to riches challenge. You start with nothing (literally nothing with no house and 0 dollars) and then slowly start earning money and build your way up. I suggest that you get the season pack since the weather will change and there will be different holidays
So what I do is download custom content furniture and clothing items! Then I download a house from the gallery and renovate it to my style because I suck at building in the sims but love decorating! I saw someone suggest creating your whole family and I agree! Packs are expensive to add to the game but they do add sooooo much more gameplay.

Oooo idk about sims but you should add a gazebo or a pretty dining area for the backyard maybe a gate? A cute wooden gate so no one can just watch you or walk on your property haha
Creating stories (even legacies challenges like the not so berry legacy challenge by lilsimsie would be great because it brings in a lot of elements of the game), downloading custom content from the sims resource, mods like slice of life, wonderful whims, and Mc command center, really help make the game much much more entertaining. Also the new cottage living pack is alot of fun! I definitely recommend!! Love watching you play the sims 💛

I just found your channel today (Aug 8) and I am definitely subscribing! I love watching people game and since I already knew you from your main channel I LOVE this content! One game I think you would like is called Untitled Goose Game. I don't know if you have ever played it but it's about a goose who creates chaos around town. You can get it on switch (I know) or computer (I think).
I definitely would look into how to use some cheats, which are best/most worth it packs, and even watch some sims build walkthroughs. Course, the queen, lilsimsie has great and funny build walkthroughs and even playthroughs.
My favorite packs are get to work, cats and dogs, dream home decor, vampires, realm of magic, and I've been obsessed with the new cottage living pack. ❤❤❤
Miaa!! Do the outside of your house, add a fence, trees, flowers, etc.! Then work on the inside of your house some more, maybe make it less boxy lol.

I recommend buying seasons. It has a lot of furniture and gameplay. It is a must have because it brings seasons and weather to the game :)
Mia if you aren't happy with your house you could download one from the gallery (a house made by someone else and uploaded for others to use) and then 'renovate' it i.e. take out the furniture and add furniture you like, adjust walls/rooms etc to your liking. Might be easier for you to have a base to work off of while you're getting used to the newer Sims. You could even do it on a different lot/plot of land so your original house is there for you to perhaps come back to when you want to have a go at a bigger challenge.
If you want to keep with your current house I'd definitely add a separate bathroom/washroom so any guests aren't coming into your bedroom to use your toilet. Maybe a gym room could be nice as well to use up space. If you wanted to add more Sims (perhaps your family or a random made-up roommate so its not 'you') then that's an easy way to fill up some space with more bedrooms. You should be able to navigate to the roof building section and add even just a simple roof (you can drag from one corner to the other and fill the entire roof in one go after picking a type of roof). If you're struggling with finding/doing things I'm sure there would be tons of tutorials on RUclips for building that could help you out!

Okay! You def should look up Sims challenges for more ideas of what to do in the game. I also agree with the other comments saying to buy some packs. I really enjoyed the get famous one lol. I hear seasons is a lot of fun too!
And two things, the phone can be used to find a job! Also, you can click your sim to change their appearance anywhere.
Hey Mia!! I would love to see you try and download some mods for your Sims game! I recently have done it and it makes your Sims experience so much more realistic and fun!! Plus it would be a pretty cool video to see all the mods you chose!
Would love to see you fix your house & give your sim an upgrade with a ton of CC and some expansion packs :) You should also do some sim challenges which will have story lines in them. Like the not so berry challenge or the 100 baby challenge. There’s also tons of mods that make the game a lot more fun too! Would be cool to see you go CC shopping as well! TSR(the sims resource), patreon and tumblr all have good CC i recommend watching other streamers videos on their fav CC creators and maybe other things they’ve installed in their game for better gameplay :)
hi mia ! you could use google to find reference pictures of houses. or to make it even easier - zillow and real estate apps like that are great for finding floor plans too! it helps a lot when building! hope this helps 😁
You should definitely get some expansion packs/game packs/stuff packs/kits, you'll have more items and more things to do; my favorites that you'd probably enjoy are Seasons, Parenthood, Get to Work, Get Famous, Cottage Living, Snowy Escape & Jungle Adventure
You should make a Video with James Turner where he builds a house for you or just shows you some tricks for building that would be really interesting to see:)
