Mama Maple’s acting skills for “drinking” are on point 😂 she blatantly didn’t take that first taste of the bacon soda (and, honestly, I don’t blame her 😂)
It looks like she just kinda let the soda lightly hit her tongue so she did "taste" it but she definitely didn't "drink" it. That's why her reaction was so mild because it was like 5% of the experience 😂
Mia casually saying “it’s probably expired” and drinking it the next moment is the funniest😂 Also her editing skill is my favourite 😂 Never disappoints me 😂
It can be expired and perfectly ok for long time. Use by date is what you must pay attention to
Hi Mia!!! You're doing so great with learning Japanese I'm so proud of you! A little tip; while it might feel uncomfy as a white person, try your hardest to mimic the accent as it will help them understand better.
Another tip; if you're forgetting a word in Japanese, try saying it in English but with a heavy Japanese accent (for example "basement" would be "base-u-ment-o"). It doesn't sound nice to us but it actually really helps Japanese people understand too. They take English classes growing up but not all are fluent, so saying it in a way they probably said it themselves is helpful.
Also remember that people in Japan are typically very very happy and excited when tourists take the time to learn their language! Don't feel embarrassed at all because I'm sure you'll just make their day when you talk to them.
I haven't yet been to Japan but my cousin is fluent and been there a couple times to visit her Japanese friends, and I follow lots of Japanese accounts because I want to learn as much as possible before I get to go.
I hope you take us on your trip but if not, enjoy it enough for all of us!!!

All of this is true true true. I went to Japan for a month after my highschool graduation. Everyone was so pleased that we were there and trying. I knew enough Japanese to get by.

Pro tip for Japanese pronunciation: English usually puts the stress on the second syllable, but in Japanese it on the first! So, not waTAshi but WAtashi. Try it! But I could understand you fine, I'm sure the Japanese will be delighted. 😄

I've worked on some photoshoots for food packaging and I have a bunch of 'prototype' soups etc They can't sell them cause they don't have all the correct nutrition info and stuff but they are perfectly safe. It's quite cool having stuff that doesn't officially exist

Props to Mia for studying the language before traveling! I just wanted to share some thoughts raised by Mia's example Japanese sentence (from a non-native speaker). The way I remember learning the difference in Japanese demonstrative pronouns is that sore is more used for things that are in proximity to the person you're addressing. Kore is more used for things that are spatially close to you the speaker. So, if it's your shoe and you're saying "this (that I'm wearing/holding) is a shoe" I'd say "kore wa kutsu desu." But if it's your conversation partner's shoe and your meaning is "that (that you're wearing/holding) is a shoe" I'd say "sore wa kutsu desu." And if it's a shoe that's not near either the speaker or the person spoken to, then use are. That (over there, not near either of us) is a shoe -> Are wa kutsu desu.

It's amazing how colored mystery food can trick our taste buds. Apparently the Lady Gaga cookies are just regular golden oreos with vanilla creme - so pretty much what you don't like much. :P Some of these items don't sound so bad actually while others I'm not sure I could bring myself to try, even less so if they are months expired. So you guys are super brave! I'm most intrigued about the cucumber sprite.

A sell by date is similar to a use by date. You can generally still eat the product for a couple days- a week after the sell by date depending on what it is. But stores pull items by their sell by date and usually donate them or get rid of them because they go bad shortly after.
Not always “go bad” but the quality declines. It’d definitely go bad after 9 months though 😂
