Good points about hiring contractors. I've had many people say they will do a job but then not meet my expectations. Most of the time, I don't know enough about the job to set the expectations before the work is done, but I realize afterward that I didn't ask the right questions and set the right expectations.
LOL I do own my lack of coordination. Thanks for watching and appreciating my oddities. Obviously we're not scripted so there will be many, MANY more of those moments. :) Stay tuned!!
Valuable information. I’m past the tree removal stage to carve a space on 6 acres, but only 3 of it developable for building a homestead as the rest is wetlands with a river access. A phase 2 dock project. We have deer and other wildlife which is why we got away from traffic/noise including neighbors. I’ve learned some good ideas from you on equipment and seeding which I want to do myself now. You have a new subscriber. Thank you
I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm in N.Central Florida and have been looking for homesteading advice from the state. Keep up the great work. P.S. I love that you put the episodes on each video.
We're glad you found us too! The first 15 or so videos are a look back at our progress and then after that it's more "real time" as we started recording what we were doing at the time. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb
Good video. Yes Sir , communication is very important when dealing with contractors. When I hire a contactor , I have a written and signed document in detail of all the work they hired to do. that avoids all the " I didn't agreed to that. Yes you did". Regardless if its land clearing or replacing a light bulb. It sad that a verbal agreement and a hand shake is a thing in the past.
Good ol' boys with bulldozers and excavators don't like to put much in writing if you know what I mean!! We're learning along the way and making good contacts with different trades for when we build our house there in a couple of years. Thanks for watching. A lot more videos to come on the progress as we edit and get them published! Brad&Deb
Every time I want to hire, if feel like getting the contract signed but then it puts off the other party especially if they are unskilled and egoistic. I say efficiency is going down the drain.
lime brakes down the clay and releases nutrients.. clay is good but to much is not so good. will be boggy when wet and concrete when dry . planting mulch crops is a good idea.
Thanks for watching. We have several videos after this one showing our pastures and other areas we planted. We're making progress on keeping the cleared land green!
my siser in iowa, our family property , has strangers dumping on it, city blaming her. Her husband disabled. We know nothing of clearing a path, to get a pick up back there to get the junk off the land? What is a price? my goodness your people did a great job. Right now we need a path for a pick up?Great Video- thank you
It's Northwest Florida in the Panhandle between Tallahassee and Pensacola. Most land clearing companies don't like to trailer their equipment more than an hour so keep that in mind when looking. We used Marty Taylor and Fred O'Neal (two different companies), but there are lots of other companies out there. Facebook Marketplace is a good place to find someone near you. Good luck with your land clearing as it can be an intimidating process! Brad&Deb
You could have Mulched all that Timber and had Several cubic metres of Mulch or even Soil if you waited long enough, then used it for Gardens instead of just Burning.
Unfortunately no, they were 5-10 year old pines...not even big enough to take to a paper mill for pulp. Plus, if you don't have large acreage, you can't get a logger to log your property....not worth his time to move equipment. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb
What did it end up costing per acre for clearing?? If you don’t mind sharing… hate to even ask but I just got 110 acres and I’m trying to lay out all my options!
We don't like to talk price because it's so regional and dependent on things like the current price of diesel fuel. Our estimates were from 2-3K per acre...probably closer to 5K now.
Sell 'em on the vision first!! We need to do a video on "turn key" versus DIY... Here's some tips we've learned along the way: ruclips.net/video/LauBnhamoMQ/видео.html
Diesel fuel is double now, but at the time, it was anywhere from $1500-$3500 an acre to clear land. Depends on the size of trees, can you burn them, haul them off, bury them, etc....
Thanks for the information. We'll check it out as the first gardening effort will likely be next spring once we get my parents settled in their new house. Dad has been talking about a garden since we started planning his house last year. I don't think he realizes how intense the Florida heat (and humidity) is though!! Brad&Deb
Pricing is very regional....and time sensitive. What we paid when we made that video is way different than land prices now. But we appreciate the feedback.
Your not located in east Texas are you. If you are id like to get the number to the guys you used. I need to do 25 - 30 acers this way. Out of the 160 acers I just purchased.
We are in Florida. We found the guy on Facebook MP and when he drove out for an estimate, he said we were outside his normal range! They don't like to trailer equipment far.

Glad you enjoyed it. I think we make better videos now though if you check out our newer stuff!
Nice video. I’m buying a bulldozer to do land clearing myself and came here for the tips.
We hired that out when we first bought! We have a mini now for property management!
@@PineyGroveHomestead I did too but it’s too much fun not to buy my own rig.
Love it! So beautiful out there!
Thank you very much. It's so serene too, we sometimes sit on the porch and just marvel at how pretty it is and how blessed we are. :)
How much did the bulldozer guys charge per acre?
They charged for the whole job unmeasured and probably averaged $1000 acre. Dirt cheap....probably $5000 acre now.
Holy crap! I was expecting 10-15k
I’ve got about 15 acres I need done. Renting my own equipment.
Great video thanks for posting it. 3 years ago is still important today

Dumping is just a low-life thing to do. Someone with a tractor, grapple and dump trailer should be able to help you out.
How much to clear 0.45 acre lot in nc big trees
Great
thanks for watching
What part of Florida is that in and what company do you recommend for Lot clearing
It's Northwest Florida in the Panhandle between Tallahassee and Pensacola. Most land clearing companies don't like to trailer their equipment more than an hour so keep that in mind when looking. Thank you I bought four acres in Live Oak and I'm looking for a company that's reliable
what was the cost for the 5 acres to clear amd burn
Back then $2500 an acre. Probably $10K now.
You could have Mulched all that Timber and had Several cubic metres of Mulch or even Soil if you waited long enough, then used it for Gardens instead of just Burning.
Ash enriches the soil too.
You should do that when you clear your own land.
How much did it cost you to clear that section of area? I have 18 acres and I would like to clear it.
At today's prices, I would budget $2500 an acre. The cheapest way is to rent a bulldozer or excavator and do it yourself!
What about the trees you cleared, was there any value in those to sell to lumber yards?
Unfortunately no, they were 5-10 year old pines...not even big enough to take to a paper mill for pulp. Plus, if you don't have large acreage, you can't get a logger to log your property....not worth his time to move equipment. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb
How much did it cost to get electric to your homestead?
800' was like $3K.....everyone said it would be $20K or more. Probably is now.
That is all really cool, but your soil looks awful. What are you doing to build soil?

Kudo's! I am in Minnesota and currently clearing 4 acres. It's NOT an easy task..
No it's not! We cleared a site for a pole barn a couple weeks ago....lots of work! video here: ruclips.net/video/KVerDZaYwN4/видео.html
How long you think it will take for a 2 acre property to
Clear 2 acres? I would guess a day unless the trees are really big.

@@PineyGroveHomestead if it’s all pines is it better to sell them to a timber company?
@@jazzcat1056 Most timber companies aren't gonna move their operation unless it's 100 acres or they are already logging close by.

Some rough prices on land and clearing would be nice..thats prob the biggest thing people want to get an idea of..

$$$$ ??
It's been 6 years but it was about $2500 an acre back then. Might be double that now with inflation and the price of diesel.
@@PineyGroveHomestead thank you for that information, very helpfull.
