  • @iliyakuryakin4671

    The biggest problem is the current rules are not enforced: when was the last time someone was deducted a point for an eye poke, fence grab or striking after the bell?

    • @dennislutyens
      @dennislutyens 6 лет назад +102

      All that stuff happens way to often as well. They really need to start deducting a point right away, and the amount of times those things would happen would be cut down significantly.

    • @csampion9025
      @csampion9025 6 лет назад +13

      The bell is only for the referee to know to stop the fight if the referee doesn't step in the fight is still on.

    • @iliyakuryakin4671
      @iliyakuryakin4671 6 лет назад +39

      That is correct and that is the problem. The ref is required to put himself in physical danger to end a round, which is unreasonable. What should happen is when the ref gets the 10 second clapper, he should shout '10 seconds left' to the fighters, who know they will shortly be expected to stop offensive action. And if they don't, they need to take the consequences of that.

    • @Achyll1985
      @Achyll1985 6 лет назад +9

      Anticipating the bell and "waiting" for it to go off, is gonna put you in a far more vulnerable situation which could lead to getting clipped or submitted, putting that responsibility on the fighter, in my opinion, would be unsafe and unreasonable for them.

    • @banishedair4518
      @banishedair4518 6 лет назад +101

      But that's what he's getting at. People think gloves are there to protect the face, and that's why they insist on the UFC using gloves. Whereas without the gloves, fighters would have to be more careful so as not to injure their hands, and cause less damage to their opponent because of it.

    • @MrSlyBadger
      @MrSlyBadger 5 лет назад +63

      Exactly his point. With gloves, fighters swing harder and more recklessly. Leading to more brain damage. Bare knuckle would lead to the fights being more realistic, and once the fighters adjusted, they would sustain less damage. At first though, broken hands would be prevalent

    I only tell that story to say that the right cross I threw nearly broke my hand. It swelled up and I could barely open it for a week. So yes.....I would be more selective with my punches in a bare knuckle fight.

    • @kylethekidable
      @kylethekidable 5 лет назад +11

      The only issue is that they'll never do day of weight cuts. The purpose of doing them early at the pro level is to give time for those last couple lbs to get off if they're over and to get an alternate fighter if it's deemed unlikely they can make weight with extra time. The only alternative to this would be having an alternate or two waiting in the wings in the event they don't make weight, meaning more intensive and specialized fight training for those guys too, meaning they will demand (and rightfully so) more money just for sitting on the back burner to maybe fight. Dana is a greedy fucker so he'd never implement anything that could cost him more money just to fix something broken like the weigh in system they use.

    I think people are underestimating how much removing gloves from MMA would affect the sport in general. Like I agree it would be more realistic but people would break their hands way more and there would be a lot more doctor’s stoppages, and because of that fighters would have to take way longer to recover after fights. More than that though, I don’t think people realise how much of an advantage grapplers would have with gloves being taken away, I’ve done jiu jitsu in MMA gloves a few times and it’s waaaay harder than grappling with bare hands, wrestlers and BJJ specialists especially would be given such a massive advantage over strikers, particularly boxers (obviously). If anything the unique design of the gloves helps to even out the sport.

    I've said for years that if you must use a point system for scoring, just do a 1 point system. Win the round or don't. Might lead to more draws, but if it's a draw then its a draw. But most scores on the 10 point system are almost always 10-9 anyway. Well a single 10-8 can really lead to an unfair score and I've never seen a 10-6 or lower. So with a 1 point system it takes some of that bad judging out of the picture because it's less about a total score and more about who just won more rounds.
    Each judge scores 1 point to the winner of each round, highest score per round awards the round, most rounds wins the fight.
    Just an idea

      @kylefields3951 2 года назад

      @@habibbialikafe339 There are so few situations where a 10 point system is in any way relevant to the actual overall performance. I agree wholeheartedly with your assertion that it should be clearer than a 1-and-done but it really should be boiled down to something along the lines of 3 points. We really don't need more than 3 individual points to determine knockdowns, trips, clear dominant exchanges, more strikes landed etc. Has there ever been a score card *Ever* that was scored 10-6? And at that point does it matter? I don't think so. It should probably just be 3-3, 3-2, or 3-1. Or perhaps the infamous 3-0 where there is no judge on Earth who could think the fight wasn't dominated by a certain competitor that round.

    Yeah i agree with that one, professional fighters should be judge. There are a lot of retired or close to retirement fighters in ufc alone so that is a great point guys. 12-6 Is dangerous elbow if landed on back of the fighter can hurt the spine-neck also if landed on top of the skull there is a weakspot there where all skull bones conect if it lands perfectly it could crack skull open. So those should be ilegal, elbow on top of the skull and also backside spine and back of the head, but anywhere else 12-6 elbow wont do that much damage will probably cut guy if it lands on face.

    Same kicks, same elbows, same knees, etc, and palm versions of all the punches, except the low-power jab, you could still throw that out with an open backhand.

      Not necessarily the case. In Pancrase, they were palm-striking the head primarily because head punching was illegal.
      Bas has flat out said that in a street fight, he punches to the head and has never had a problem. You need good fist structure as you can't rely on wraps to protect your hand, but it's not like removing gloves will see the end of the head punch.
      Moreover, adopting a policy of punching the body and opening the hand to go upstairs runs the risk of telegraphing your intent.
      I think you'd probably see some different hand strikes if you took away the gloves, but punches wouldn't _disappear._

    • @zedek_

      +Nick Williams
      "Bas has flat out said that in a street fight, he punches to the head and has never had a problem."
      He said you _can_ , if you clench correctly, which is certainly true if you don't hit the forehead. I'm not disputing the effectiveness of precise punches. I don't think he _quite_ said what you are claiming. Maybe if you said he *has punched* to the head; your phrasing makes it sound like it was his preferred tactic, and I've seen a lot of stuff from Bas and don't recall hearing anything so definitive.
      _"Moreover, adopting a policy of punching the body and opening the hand to go upstairs runs the risk of telegraphing your intent. "_
      This is literally part of Bas' methodology; loading up the strike identically, fist closed, and either keeping the fist closed when going for the liver, or popping it open as the strike is traveling. He does this often and in succession during his fights; going high and low seamlessly. Sure, other fighters will have to train so that they can also do this seamlessly, but we shouldn't assume they won't take steps to mitigate telegraphing.
      "but punches wouldn't disappear."
      Was never my claim, but sure, I agree.
      My point is, palm strikes are a perfect alternative if you can't, or won't, throw a punch to the head.
      Note that my comment was in response to Yves acting like everyone will have destroyed hands going into the second round. It's ridiculous right?

    I think specialized judges is a bad thing. For example if you have a jiu jitsu guy judging a fight he will be more bias to the grappler or the guy who is performing jiu jitsu then the kickboxer. And a guy who is an active mma judge who was a former fighter he said that if a striker takes down a grappler he would count it as more then if the grappler took down a striker and guess what this guy’s specialty was, Muay Thai. Everything is supposed to be scored equally no matter who does it. This would create a bias in judging that would not be necessary because there is already enough controversy on this topic.

    Yeah, number one rule should be any fighter who eye pokes with an open hand to the face should be disqualified on the spot for breaking a rule. No point deduction, no warning just disqualified. How many times have we seen blatant eye gouges and kicks to the groin only to have the dirty rule breaker get his hand raised for a victory if the injured opponent cannot continue. One gets the win the other goes to ER.
