I used 10 mm and 8 mm hooks and 7 skeins of the suggested yarn for a M size cardigan. it looks beautiful, very chunky and cozy. thank you!!

    I just finished this cardigan in Bernat Blanket ‘Twist’ yarn and it turned out so soft and cute! I crocheted it in size XS and used just under 2 large balls of 220 yards each. So this warm bulky sweater cost about $26 CAD. Thank you so much for this pattern! I plan to make more to give as gifts. ❤

    • @forthefrills
      @forthefrills  4 года назад

      Hi Tracey, this pattern uses Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick which is a Super Bulky (6) yarn. It's really on the thicker side of super bulky so I think that Bernat Baby Marly is too thin for a 12mm hook (unless you want a really holey bomber jacket). If you still want to use Baby Marly you'll probably have to change you hook size, gauge and stitch count. You can use the measurements in the pattern as a guide but unfortunately I can't tell you how much yarn you'll need since its a different weight from the sample cardigan! Grace

      Hi Liz, I'd highly recommend using the same weight of yarn (super chunky/super bulky) and the recommended hook sizes. You could always you this pattern as a rough guide and adapt it for a different weight of yarn and a different hook but the stitch counts will be different. So you'll have to figure out sizing yourself, but if you're comfortable with altering patterns or up for a challenge you can give it a go :) Grace

    (not related to the video at all lol)
    _Please_ read all of this!
    So I'm a beginner crocheter and I've been trying to do the single crochet pattern but I've been having problems so, I thought I'd come here where more advanced crocheters are, in hopes of them helping me.
    So I actually have more than one problem, I hope someone can take time to help me with all of them 🤗
    I'm going to try to explain this as best I can but as a beginner crocheter I might have trouble. So first of all, I can do the starting chain just fine, and I can do the row after the starting chain just fine, but I have a lot of trouble doing the rest of the rows. (Tell me if I'm wrong, but) you're apparently supposed to make a single chain as a turning stitch, then yarn over, then insert the hook into a certain stitch so that there appears to be three loops on the hook, then yarn over and pull the hook through one loop (so that there's apparently supposed to be two loops on the hook), then yarn over again and pull thru so that there is one loop on the hook,and start over again. I'm having all kinds of trouble doing this. I dont know which stitch to insert the hook into, and I usually just guess which stitch. I'm also having trouble doing the first yarn-over; when I finally manage to pull thru the first loop only, and almost always after I do that, I end up with still three loops on the hook instead of two like there's supposed to be.
    If you manage to take the time to read all this (and manage to understand it lol) and perhaps help me with the issues, I appreciate it so very much, thank you 😊😛

      Hey so sorry no one has replied. What it seems like you're talking about it's a half double crochet foundation round, but if you've already done your chain stitches, then it isn't really necessary. If you're doing a row of sc, chain 1 as your turning chain and then just do sc until the end. Ch2 for hdc, 3 for dc, unless the pattern says otherwise. This is US terminology by the way. I hope this helped

    • @forthefrills
      @forthefrills  3 года назад

      Hi Georgetta,
      It sounds like your gauge (how many stitches per 10cm/4") doesn't match the gauge listed in the pattern. If your gauge matches the pattern gauge it should turn out approx. the same size as the suggested measurements. If you're crocheting too tightly, you might need to size up a crochet hook or try searching 'crochet gauge tutorials' on RUclips and you can learn how to change your tension to match gauge.
