I’m 100% the same… I like to basically have a taste of a series and read a few Book 1’s, and then I pick which one I want to dive into to finish it. Unless it’s like a huge series like The Wheel of Time… gotta take a break!

I then have to finished Gotrek and Felix final 5 books I'm excited to get back to them, but it's been like 15 years, so it can wait a little longer if need be, but sooner than some of my others on my list. I know I wont be starting any of the big timers (Stormlight) anytime soon because I have so many trilogies to get started and finish. I'll be happy to get back to reading 1-2 books at a time vs 5.
I'm all about the mood reading. I've got multiple series I'm into atm 1/2 of them are me just waiting for the latest or last books to be released... 😌 sigh. But sometimes I try out an author, and we'll just say, after The Blade Itself and Empire of Silence in July ... I added the rest of the Firt Law trilogy to my Audible app... but have become hyper focused on Roman's in space, batteling alien vampyres?!... I was able to finally find an available copy of Demon in White on August 1st & now I'm currently reading Disquiet Gods... The Sun Eater series has been great for the appetite 🤢...😂😂😂 book 4 had me reaching for tissues (there was, what I'd call, a real Aragorn & Boromir death scene moment) ... book 5 had me in shock... and the end of chapter 2 book 6 already 🥺...🤧 I didn't cry reading the end of Ashes of Man, and I guess the Prince's question hit just right , and I needed a minute... so I'm taking a break to watch some RUclips content... 🤣🤣🤣 📖🥰📚

Without going into too much detail, I’m in the middle of Feist Riftwar Cycle, Hobb Realm of the Elderlings, Gemmell Drenai saga, Adams HHGTTG, Jordan WoT, Tolkien History of Middle Earth, Pratchett Discworld, Clarke 2001, Brooks Shannara, Salvatore Drizzt, Sanderson Cosmere. And some others… 😅
I've 6 books left in Realm of the Elderlings, and its at the very least a Top 3 Fantasy series for me right now and if it sticks to landing, I can easily see it taking the top spot overall.
I'm a series flitter and I need to keep going with one series at a time. The plan for ke is to finish sun eater this year and red rising. I think I will give book 3 of fallen gods a miss- i didn't like Sunbringer. I loved Dune- didn't like Dune Messiah. I really need to start A vengeful realm- I may have to dive into it during my cruise. Would you recommend Will of the many?

For backlist I go back to back, always. I just can't fathom moving on to something else without completing whatever I'm in the middle of. Of course, it helps that I've read damn near everything that gets hyped in fantasy circles by most readers already, so I almost never feel FOMO these days. I feel like the main reason readers like yourself are in the middle of so many series is because we're bombarded by hype and the FOMO is real . . .

I kind of get the feeling that's a format that would work well for you. You'll get a taste of everything, and then you just pick up whatever gets you most excited.

I 100% agree about how I'm not hype when I'm outside of the series but when I'm reading it I'm crazy into. Probably actually B hyped but I know once I start it'll skyrocket C: The Locked Tomb: Read the first book Gideon the Ninth. Really like it, but not sure I crave more of that world than I got so unsure if I'll continue A+: The Hierarchy: can't wait for the 2nd book. It's a bit slow but I'm enjoying the dialogue and how real a lot of the actions feel. That combined with all the good things I've heard about books 2 and 3 has me hype. Without the hype I've heard it'd probably only be a B. A+: Dungeon Crawler Carl: On book 5 but not started yet. This series is just candy, I love it. I feel like I could always be reading one and never get bored. It scratches my video game and reading itch at the same time. Had to actively take a break so I could have something easy to go to to get out of a potential reading slump later (lmao, I had this paused at 13 minutes to write this, posted it, then the next one up you mentioned was DCC. Love it!) A+: Dungeon Crawler Carl: On book 5 but not started yet. This series is just candy, I love it. I feel like I could always be reading one and never get bored. It scratches my video game and reading itch at the same time. Had to actively take a break so I could have something easy to go to to get out of a potential reading slump later (lmao, I had this paused at 13 minutes to write this, posted it, then the next one up you mentioned was DCC. Love it!)

Yes, the Wars of Light and Shadow are FANTASTIC! Janny Wurts is a TOP 5 Author in my book. That readers of the fantasy genre don’t know her works is inconceivable to me. Enjoy the first book and all those that follow.
