I love this episode cause it's confirmation that Rick really does care for Morty.
There was the time way back in season 1 when Rick let Morty win the bet after being sexually assaulted by King Jellybean, whom Rick then killed despite it not profiting him personally in any way.
I mean Rick literally willingly sacrificed his life for Morty during that time split episode
Rick really cares for Morty, and he considers this a flaw that should be removed.
@Zekie u right. He would sooner pray to God than let Morty die, and that's pretty big for someone who regularly says stuff like "My God's the biggest dick that's never existed" and "If God exists, it's fucking me!"
Even if Rick considers it toxic, a part of him stays that way for his own mental health.

This episode really handled how we are as individual people. That the toxic and healthy versions of rick and morty showing that each one of our personality and traits is what makes us us, and that despite turning over a new leaf like Morty tried to do, the toxic parts is still you, so both healthy and toxic versions of you togther is what makes up who you are as a person
You can still choose to change the toxic parts for the better tho.

I loved the idea of this episode being focussed around how different people would define toxicity and their own toxic traits.
Rick viewed his as essentially any of his strong emotions being removed because they were a hinderance
While Morty has his anxiety and any sense of social awareness removed essentially making him carefree in any social situation
Although both of them were extremely unhealthy since Rick lost any sense to care strongly about anything really and Morty became a sociopath
It was hilarious how you were talking about how Morty was doing great and had a girlfriend who accepted Morty as he was even that he was 14 only to pause and be like ‘Wait a minute, actually…’ 🤣 You were like, actually there’s probably a problem with that woman 🤣
it's interesting that the vibe you got is that "he'd be a great guy" . I kinda get what you mean that he'd be successful .... but still , detoxified Morty just sounds like a sociopath
This ep shows morty without his toxins is a sociopath. Keeps this in mind for later on
Rick despises himself because intelligence is a very lonely thing. It's not that you cannot relate to other people or the things they say, but no one can relate to you. You function on a different plane of awareness and perception, thus making everything that interests the rest of the universe, bland and dull by comparison to the things going on in your mind.
Reminds me of the House episode where a genius used cough medicine and one drink per day as treatment to lower his IQ. Because he felt like being with her was like being with someone from a different species.
When he gets smart again he fully acknowledges he's the A-hole and that his girlfriend is a good person. But it didn't change the fact that just the idea of being intimate with her made him feel like he was committing some kind of crime. Since his IQ compared to hers was like a human vs a neanderthal.
One of the few times House met someone who was in fact smarter than himself. Letting him start to use the medication mixed with a drink again. Because he himself is totally miserable, and if this guy is smarter he realized that he must be even more miserable.

To be fair at the end of meaning there is little. When you realize nothing at all matters then it's hard to even bother. All actions are equally pointless to take. shit even if you were to be the wrost human to have existed, the sun itself is going to destroy all evience of the bad you did. Time eventually runs out entirely and that point alone makes it all pointless. How do you bother knowing that ultimately everything vanishes? Why be nice to that person or ask that girl out when you're going to die and 75 years afterwards the last living person to remember you will as well, negativing the whole of your existence? You do or you do not that's how. Those are your options in reality. Exist or do not exist. And while I am curiou as to non-existence I already know I've been there before I was born and didn't take too kindly to it. I would prefer to be Is than Is Not.
