The pilot episode of the American animated television sitcom Rick and Morty was written by series creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, and directed by Justin Roiland. The episode premiered on Adult Swim on December 2, 2013. The series introduces protagonists, alcoholic scientist Rick Sanchez and his innocent teenage grandson Morty Smith, as they embark on a dangerous interdimensional adventure to fetch Mega Tree seeds. The pilot had a positive reception and was seen by about 1.1 million viewers when it premiered.

Rick and Morty are specifically meant to be spoofs of Doc and Marty so you were absolutely spot on. The pitch was basically some sketches Justin Roiland (Rick and Mortys voice actor) made. It's called "Doc and Mharti" if you're interested.

I thought this was a really rough episode. (To be fair, yeah, it's the pilot. The show gets better pretty quickly; I'd say season 3 is easily peak, but even episode 5 of season 1 is an all-time great episode. But still, that doesn't make episode 1 any better; it's uneven, that's all.)
BUT "it's a figure of speech, Morty; they're bureaucrats. I don't respect them" is an EXCELLENT joke.

Yes! It says right at the beginning - we are merging the two channels into one to make it easier for us going forward. So transferring everything over the next week or two and then the new episodes will start to appear ^^

Yes Sopranos is coming! We are slowly getting back into routine but I just started a new job 2 weeks ago, so it's been v busy and chaotic! We can't wait for more Tony!
3:18 Talky introduction ends... I've never seen "Rick & Morty" #1,` so I'm here to see what all the fans are as ape about. Rick Sanchez is another "Stanford Pines"? I have seen later episodes, so I know a thing or two about "R&M." After seeing a number of episodes, I saw this as a child abuse cartoon and put it in my rear view mirror.;)
