As an animator and game design student, I think you can really learn a lot from looking at these designs! They are all amazing, old and new, but they clearly improved in the visuals such as values (dark and light tones) and texture. In the old versions the colors are generally very bright and has more or less the same value, which makes it difficult to know where to look and what’s the focus point (like face or a special feature). A good example is the very last character Zyra, where they mostly changed her values and colors and it became very clear that the focal point is her face and upper body (like the petals/flower feature). Many other character designs improved in this, but they also went all out and made a complete new design! I love when the creators are still actively involved in improving their game. It’s such a shame that some call them lazy, when every single change took thought and effort. Most developers would have just left it honestly. The redesigns are also genius! A lot of them are likely because they fleshed out the characters personalities and backgrounds, and had to make the designs fit that. It’s also worth mentioning that a lot of the redesigns of the female characters is adding more clothing to them, like Lux for example. In games, the female characters tend to be overly sexually, per demand of the male audience or the creators preferences. However with more women playing games and working in the game industry, the value of the female characters also rise and simply making them sexy or attractive isn’t as engaging to the entire audience (not saying women don’t appreciate playing sexy female characters ofc). Making the female characters more realistic and in tone with their personalities is a huge win for LOL and deserves praise for the effort they put into that👏🏻
It's crazy how a good third of the roster are in desperate need of an update and the biggest game in the world apparently doesn't have the funds for some new models and voicelines.
They don't want to have funds. They'd rather spend their money on things that can triple their money, like Arcane and gacha skins. Oh, and laying off two third of the company.

It heavily pandered to his original lore where he was just a one-dimensional cyborg for the sake of League having a cyborg character. His new design gives much more of that Glorious Evolution he speaks of, because he looks quite glorious. That being said, I agree that other champions should've been prioritized before him.

Kayle's the only one I genuinely dislike the update for, I don't think there was a need to make her armor so curvy. The rest are a neutral or net positive.
Fiora's was a major downgrade. The original model with the gold highlights actually looked the best. She's at least wearing some armor as opposed to the tight fitting clothes of the rework and the ugly ass shoulderpad+cape thing.
I saw the Lux pic, I was around at the time that skin was never released. The backlash was so bad about Lux looking like a lady of the night they did a complete visual redesign. Also her W was supposed to make units stealth for a brief amount of time, thank god that never made it to live.
I like how you can see general character design trends change throughout the years: a lot of the old designs have big ol' stompers and a lot of detail, while the new ones like to thicken the torso and simplify. The new designs incorporate lots of asymmetry, im assuming to make the model more recognizable from far away

I miss old Fiddlesticks so much 😢 I loved his goofyness, his walk animation. The cowboy hat skin was my first skin and with the update it completely lost its charm :c
As a newer player I felt really robbed of something good with the old Fiora design, like that looks so much better than what we have now, why did they change it?
They really did just turn the saturation down on some of the updates 😂 But man i miss how old league looked and played, it felt so alive and full of wonder. The old SR and old champ skillsets....miss them dearly. I miss twisted treeline and dominion the most though. I'd do anything to go back and play through the first 3 seasons of league again. It's truly hearrbreaking that league will never be the same game i fell in love with.
I think all changes are more or less justified. I personally would keep more details from old Evelyn, Fiora and Karma designs though. And I don't like new Tristana face, don't know why. And TF lost his "anime magician" vibe, don't know if it is a good thing or bad.
I missed the old season where there are skills related to items, wards, and the environment. Where you do cool sht. Now it's just dead meat play for team when you matched up with new players and you stuck with them 20 min or 30 min. Season 4 & 5 was peak
Evelynn, Fiora, Kayle, and Warwick I definitely had nostalgia for I do like the new ones too, but I remember seeing one of Kayle's older splash arts of her in her ult, and I thought it was badass with the ripple effect ^^ Evelynn, I seen arts of someone recoloring her model and editing it so she had blue skin, deep purple hair, and spikes. I really loved the asthetic! Her early splash arts of her coming out of the darkness looked so...mysterious and "misty" to me I have no idea why. Its a personal fav of mine I definitely love Warwick's changes as my first ever champ! I do miss his ptsd-inducing howls though lol I know its there but quieter and not as common to hear anymore Old Udyr model, speaking of which- oh how that gives me massive ptsd lol (mind you, I played LoL when I was still in middle school, so of course I was bad at the game. Every udyr i met was snowballing and overfed)
I really like some of the older designs. Fiora, Garen, and of course Morgana. I hate how they butchered her. Her old voice lines were better too. Now she just feels like she's lecturing the player every time you right click.

But man i miss how old league looked and played, it felt so alive and full of wonder. The old SR and old champ skillsets....miss them dearly. I miss twisted treeline and dominion the most though.
I'd do anything to go back and play through the first 3 seasons of league again.

I missed the old season where there are skills related to items, wards, and the environment. Where you do cool sht. Now it's just dead meat play for team when you matched up with new players and you stuck with them 20 min or 30 min. Season 4 & 5 was peak

Evelynn, I seen arts of someone recoloring her model and editing it so she had blue skin, deep purple hair, and spikes. I really loved the asthetic! Her early splash arts of her coming out of the darkness looked so...mysterious and "misty" to me I have no idea why. Its a personal fav of mine
I definitely love Warwick's changes as my first ever champ! I do miss his ptsd-inducing howls though lol I know its there but quieter and not as common to hear anymore

I really like some of the older designs. Fiora, Garen, and of course Morgana. I hate how they butchered her. Her old voice lines were better too. Now she just feels like she's lecturing the player every time you right click.
