Respect you did this upgrade. So much work. I had HU-850 and amp in my old Volvo S60, what a amazing sound. I still miss it. Now I have an S80 with standard sound 🤔 Btw a bit strange, my HU-850 and climate control unit were separated. So I didn't have to remove the shifter.
5:11 There's a small access hole beneath the front door handle, from which you can actually push out the trim piece from behind. No need to pry it out, always ends up a little marred. Also, be careful when taking off a doorcard, the plastic clips holding on the door handle cable are pretty fragile. Lift up the doorcard just high enough to be able to unclip the cable, then pull it off further.
Excellent job! If you put the masking tape or electrical tape around the rivet, it should prevent marring the door a bit better. The residual rivets will fall into the inner crevice where the water (if any) can drain. If you put masking tape behind the residual rivet, it helps not loosing them down. So you can recover them back not letting them there for the source of unnecessary noise.
Thank you for this tip! I do think some tape around the rivets could have helped! When the rivets fall in the door I tend to grab something with reach like screwdriver and push them to the water drain hole so they fall out of the door. It would be nice if these where just bolted in lol
Does the original Premium Sound package came with some extra dampening/isolation inside doors already from factory?... or was it just the head unit + speakers + amplifier? Usually when sound is upgraded, then noise proofing matts are installed inside doors.
Is there a speaker under the grill on the dash board? The one above the air vents? Seen at 0:38. I am doing this to a V70 which has a slightly different set up. Thanks.
Thank you! It’s needed for the proper amplification and to fully use all speaker including the one in the dash. It’s not like 100% necessary but it’s 100% recommended!
I just rewatched it and it seems I didn’t include it, it is very simple to do . The dash speaker grill is held in by clips , you just pry it up. Do so carefully as to not ruin your dashboard. All cars are pre wired with the connection put the speaker but without the hu-850 I believe it does not work. I can make a separate video on this if need be.👍
Quick question as I’m looking to do something similar to my 04 XC. Do you know if the new head unit has to come from the same model year as the car? On the forums I keep reading that not matching the model year can mess up the display in the radio and others seem to have not run into problems. Thanks!
@Positive Garage right lol I THINK their 8" but I'm not positive either. Guess I could pull out a tape measure. Seems like nobody really knows lol volvo blogs & all💁♂️
Your videos keeps getting better and better my man! Hope you're happy with the upgrade. Keep it up!
Thank you so much :) the speakers definetly sounded so much better !
@@positivegarage What size drill bit did you use to drill out the rivets? I've tried different ones but never got it out as clean as you lol

Thank you ! And well that would make the job easier! The sound for how old the speakers are really impress me!
It’s crazy because I needed a video like this when I was doing these exact same things on my radio but I couldn’t find nothing like it 🥹
That’s why I made it :))))))

I just stick a vacuum hose and picks up all the rivets they fell
8:45 nice! straight into the door. LOL

There is!
Where have you bought the steering wheel?
Hi. Do you remember if the front door speaker was 8" in that premium series and if the hat shelf speakers were also 8"🤔
hey, nice video!
Is the upgrade for the head unit mandatory? why is it needed for the new speakers? thanks!

Did I miss the dash speaker install? Still wondering how to access it..

Great Video Tutorials Bro!!!! have a question?!?! where did you install the amp?
Hey! Right under the front passenger seat! Very simple!
What steering wheel is this?
hey ! thanks for this, looking to do the same thing on my XC70. adding the amp is no problem ? just plug and play ?
Yes just plug and play! Plug in power witch is found under seat and then you may need to acquire wire harness to connect amp to head unit!
@@positivegarage thanks for your answer. other question: are the speakers different too If i have an volvo audio set up without amp ?
where did you get those door speakers and does this fit S80 pre facelift?
Got it from @thewhiteblockcompany on Instagram , it might fit. I’d confirm with him!

Hey thanks so much!
What size are the rear deck speakers?
8-10” I believe I’d have to get a double check on that
