umvc3 is the game i like most from the versus series, with very little changes in that game it would be played to this day in big stages, pretty much taking away infinites and nerfing x-factor as much modders had done already, i know its still be played, but not as it was before infinite, i dont hate infinite by any means, but its killed umvc3 and itself, and we are pretty much without a mahvel game since then. lets hope they will announce another one at Evo.
I love 3 but I feel more characters should have been included like 2 have 56 characters a record in the fighting game genre back in the day like have that amount of characters Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was great to they both better than Infinite.
Much like Akuma was like a testing thing Capcom did with adding him to their X-Men game. I think Bandai Namco is doing the same thing with Akuma on Tekken 7....see if it gathers further interest and demand for ‘Tekken x Street Fighter’
Imo tekken 7 Was tekken x Street fighter but after the mess of sfxt they decided to make just tekken 7 which is why for years until fates retribution official release did it feels and begin to look distinct and akuma was a holdover from txsf
tekken x street fighter actually is going to still happen but harada stated he wanted to wait until there weren't as many fighting games out to compete or over saturate the genre and considering at the moment... yeah i agree with him not releasing it now especially considering how much a inconsistent, letdown mess street fighter x tekken was.
Tracy Ndiyob I’ll say it will be a new ‘Tag Team’ game with Tekken/Street Fighter characters instead of Tekken Tag Tournament 3. This Tekken style crossover could be something special.
Super 😃!!! Thanks for this breakdown. It’s cool to see something redeeming about this game - especially after Guru Larry rightly pointed out that Marvel held back key characters as not to plug Sony and Fox who had rights to the characters.
I don't know why Capcom didn't bring back Megaman and Captain Commando for this game and some of the past characters were killed in the canon according to a poster found on one of the stages.
If you look carefully at the roster on both franchises, Every character was picked to promote upcoming titles, Crimson Viper = SFIV, Thor had a movie, Dr Strange had a movie coming so did Rocket racoon. Ghouls And Ghosts is a more sucsessful franchise than Cap Com (pun intended, by them). It's why sure faves like Cyclops, Ken, Sabretooth and Gambit did not make it back
I personally think the reason why Mega Man wasn't brought back was due to his projectile-based moveset. He didn't use projectiles too much in mvc 1 or 2, but the developers probably didn't like that representation of Mega Man, so they stuck to Zero and Tron who have more traditional movesets
The sprite work from the original run has my heart. MvC3 was ok but I loved the prequels. I was looking for that same passion with UMvC3 but it never materialized. Arc System Works should make the next game if it ever gets made
Same here, but also keep in mind mvc2 was the arcades last hurrah in the United States. They were already dying when mvc2 came but at the time the big craze was fat people on DDR.
I hated how terribly nerfed she became in Ultimate. She definitely needed adjustment, such as the infinite air fireball keep away, but to reduce her health and defense even further was ridiculous.
Once this version came out I was super excited ,badass a new mvc3 I even took the gigantic banner from work ,but as soon as I started playing, it was different ,for me it was those weird control scheme ,for years I was use to those 2 punches and 2 kicks ,mvc2 same concept not too different, now those 2 games are just used as backgrounds for my action figures the one with ghost rider still has it's cellophane wrapper on it
No, guilty would be if you enjoyed Infinite. What they did to Venom is unforgivable, he annoyed me too much to play as him, and I MAINED him back in the day.
I love MvsC3. Great game. Great fun. I hope capcom sort their act out with this series. Infinite was a great game to play but felt Un loved and a missed opportunity of a rosta
Man I loved Primal Rage as a kid. My 8 year old mind was fascinated by that game. It combined two of my favorite things: dinosaurs and fighting games. I even had the action figures. Lol
I still love this game. I just can’t play it for shit. I actually like to play arcade mode because people are just too good to play against. I like doing combos but the loops and DHC glitch shit irks me to no end. Watching people play this game is very good though.
BasedSif Then get better scrub Took my years of grinding and learning Bums cry about the game and I can play any game after playing this Everything else is easy
As someone who grew up on SFII, then lived for Xmen vs Street Fighter, UMvC3 is my favorite and I've poured way more time into it than any other fighter
Generic 3D backgrounds, stripped-down controls, spammable assists & HORRIBLE music hold it back, for me. I prefer MvC1's backgrounds, music, last boss (Onslaught) & true, 6-button control scheme. If only MvC1 had had MvC2's impressive roster....
@@TexasHollowEarth First of all, its AT not @... lol. 2: nothing generic about those backgrounds or the iconic music that came with them, they had to balance out the interest in the background with the impending shenanigans that would erupt in the foreground. 3. Stripped down controls: who knew MvC2's auto combo system (pressing light twice) would inspire pretty much all Anime fighters? Who Knew that assigning tag options to their own buttons would inspire the next best 2d tag game years later? 4: Onslaught... is just Apocalypse reloaded, Abyss is much more interesting 5 MVC2 is a six button game
I love this game a lot because I’m a huge marvel fan and I always wanted to play a fighting game with marvel characters so I thought this was the perfect game for me. I still play it on Ps4. I also love this game a lot because all the colors in this game are references to real costumes in the marvel universe, some are color inspired and some represent the actual costumes. I hope they give us a MVC4 next year.
I remember counting down the days when this game was released first... I had been waiting so long as a kid. I played MvC 2 so much in my early teens, getting MvC3 was like a home coming... and the remind "I wanna take you for a ride" was great...that being said, the art design always was a big off for me...and then by MvC Infinite...well yea..I was checked out with that mess...
Never (except for Silver Samurai being played by a Capcom dev). First it was Toronto-based actors playing them from CotA thru MvC2 and then Japanese voices were considered for MvC3 but that idea was thrown out the window because, let's face it, it would sound wrong. LA actors who played the characters in the cartoons were used from then on (Doom and Shuma were instead played by Vancouver's Paul Dobosn instead).
Big fan of Marvel 2, Marvel 3 I was really excited about when I bought it on day 1, but just didn't really get into it... I didn't like the 3D characters and that dark cel shaded shadow effect they add onto the characters... The game just felt ugly to me. :/
I honestly never consider MvC series as a Hardcore Fighting Game series to begin with, it feels more in-line with the kind of Smash Bros. Well not exactly as simple, but almost. But yeah, I’m with you, MvC 3 doesn’t look as charming as previous entries, kinda wish that they could collaborate with Arc System Works. But overall, last gen was surprisingly wonderful for Fighting Game genre. SF IV, MK IX, GG Xrd, MvC 3, SF x T, TTT 2, Injustice, KOF XIII, DOA 5, etc. Aside from better graphics, this gen fighting games couldn’t even come close in “WOW” factor, just a few improvements here - & - there IMHO. Next, let’s 81tch about the god-awful MvC: Infinite shall we? 🤣
Marvel vs capcom 2 was the best game for me in terms of gameplay. I think it was the perfect balance of simple yet in depth. I definitely enjoyed the player roster from ultimate more, but just wish they went with a different art style. In execution it’s not bad, definitely better than copying and pasting sprites, I mean seeing a new sprite for Morrigan, thank god lol. But I can see why they went this way, a lot of characters were never hand drawn in their games, like viewtiful joe or Dante. But would’ve loved to have seen that.
The difference is it had a very healthy competitive scene. “When’s Marvel?” was the meme for every fighting game stream, and they weren’t asking about MvC2.
It's a good game but MvsC2 is the best one, hands down. I have all 4 ( MvsC, MvsC2, Ultimate MvsC3, MvsC Ultimate). Graphics aren't everything. The original 2D titles had a lot more charm and personality and the gameplay was definitely superior (which matters most). If they copy the original essence and formula and pair that with updated graphics, the biggest roster yet including all the fighters from the series so far, and maybe even a 2D sprite classic mode to appeal to early players' sense of nostalgia, they'll make a killing and reinvigorate the franchise.
I think mvc3 was good but wasn’t the greatest but the introduction to new wanted characters was a warm welcome to stay around beside Phoenix max level X factor
tatsunoko vs capcom was the last vs. game i fully enjoyed in terms of content. i still love the visual style(especially in the trailers and the beautiful movie-esque credits for vanilla mvc3),the great roster of characters(that while couldve been bigger dlc-wise still had a variety of capcoms history and didnt get rid of characters while keeping disliked picks like infinite.) and the dedication to give all the capcom characters rather good voice acting.(the darkstalkers characters, mike haggar which i like more than his voice in the street fighter 5 trailers, viewtiful joe, tron bonne, and arthur.)but my problem with mvc3 is it was kinda overhyped in some areas like umvc3 version being released that while having some charm(like the galactus mode being a reference to the onslaught and apocalypse cheats in previous games.) really felt like it couldve been just an update or had modes like a story mode(that was in development for the game and hyped in the trailers and a planned comic book line really giving the feel of something big to be added to the game only for it to be a run of the mill arcade mode with no kind of minigames/extra features and that lame as hell heroes and heralds mode that can basically be summed up as collect cards to see "hey check out this character that shouldve been in this game or in a story mode with how much is being put in",i can understand the reasoning why umvc3 exist but i do feel they couldve taken the time to add a bit more.)that had me a bit letdown on the game upon doing everything and kinda would say marvel vs capcom 1 is still my favorite of the 3(2 is very unbalanced, its stages are lacking with a really lame/cheap final boss that comes out of nowhere, its kinda bare bones outside of its roster since its arcade mode only has one ending making me question why not make a story mode or cut out arcade mode completely,i dont like its music with a few exceptions, and the roster while having good picks like b.b hood, sakura, hayato, tron bonne, cable, and servbot is overrated as there were alot of clones or just not good characters/waste of space like bone claw wolverine. i did like its original characters like sonson 3,amingo and ruby heart who was originally a darkstalkers character.). i really hope the next vs. game has a better roster(that takes advantage of capcom series we havent seen like breath of fire, asuras wrath, tech romancer, power stone, dino crisis, gotcha force, rival schools, zack and wiki, red earth, star gladiator and god hand instead of only characters that showed up in mvc3 with the only new ones being x series characters that should've been in mvc3,jedah and a random monster hunter.) and better modes(like a story mode that takes advantage of the crossover while having fun with the interactions like mvc3 and 1 did.)
I remember how upset people were getting when MVC3 and UMVC3 were coming out. Nevermind the lack of Mega Man, people hated pretty much any character they knew nothing about and that was usually towards Marvel’s side. That’s wild in hindsight because you have a character like Rocket Racoon who was one of the most hated additions to UMVC3 because people had no idea who he was and now he’s one of Marvel’s most iconic characters. Funny how these things work out.
Short answer....no....it did not. Other than MVCI it was the fastest dying Marvel game made By Capcom. It literally almost lost its Evo slot after just like 4 years. Which was UNHEARD of for EVO. It was fun, but had so many flaws people got sick of it fairly quickly.
Everyone wants a MVC4 with every character from the series past and present with the same ability to do swag combos, plink, wave dashing, infinite’s and open ended combo systems and layered mix ups. MVC2 needs a HDR remake to rebalance all the low tiers with Hypers that hit and work that are usable and or they can actually combo into. The God tiers everyone wants left alone. The games been balanced by the players and they know what characters don’t work or are unusable. RYU and Roll along with Chun lee are unplayable really along with even Shuma. The games been “balanced” by how it’s played and you simply just need to ask the pros what the low and mid tiers need. The game doesn’t need to change that much and my only issue I’ve ever said was Anti air assists have far far to much invisibility. They should be able to be punished a bit easier just like in UMVC or even DBZ.
A lot of consumers complained about Capcom vs Marvel 3 not enough players and within a year, like all Capcom games an upgraded sequel. A slight edge for MvC2 cable as it's been around longer.
I'd say yes, it lived to the hype. It was fairly accessible for the time, and a good roster with a mix of fan favs, MCU related newcomers (without making them MCU knockoff versions) and fun weird additions like MODOK. I was shocked Shuma Gorath was included. I do wish it lasted longer with seasons of DLC, but that wasn't really the style of releasing fighting games DLC yet for fighting games. If we got later DLC seasons with heavily requested characters like Mega Man (or X), Jin Saotome, Venom, etc it would likely turn into GOAT. I didn't like the heavy shading style at first, but would take it any day over the bland style we got for Infinite. My biggest gripe was the Capcom side. Both uMvC3 and Infinite had boring rosters for the capcom side. We didn't see a lot of obscure characters, or really wacky and colourful ones. There's some good ones like Viewtiful Joe, Amatersau, Tron Bonne, Arthur & Red Areemer, but I was hoping for more WTF and obscure characters like they did for MvC1.
I honestly didn’t really care for MvC 3 compared to the older games. Didn’t like the art style, the button setup, or X Factor. MvC2 and X-Men vs SF will always be my favorite “Mahvel” series games.
You forgot to mention how Capcom took out some characters that were supposed to be playable in the game but we're cut our because Capcom tried to do dlc ripoffs. Such characters include Frank West and Dr. Octopus. The fact that their are leaks that strongly indicate that their is extra data in the game for such characters. Not to mention how fans of the series were really pissed about it aside from those new to the franchise and those of the fgc community.
This game's meta grew into "50/50 mix up followed by death" the game. SF4 had the same problem. For some reason Capcom in this era had a weird thing where they would simplify certain aspects of their fighters but then add dumb shit like characters having 50/50 vortexes that were difficult to get out of. MvC3 was made to intentionally be broken and easy on the execution side. But it got to the point to where whoever's touched their opponent first would wipeout their lifebar.
I, like my fellow fighters, enjoyed MVC3! Aside from alot of keep away strategies competeive players implement, its still fantastic! There is, however, a few issues with it: Great new cast additions-but low character count. Fantastic music-but couldn't we get the original music as a option? DLC remained DLC without no updates or patches.

tekken x street fighter actually is going to still happen but harada stated he wanted to wait until there weren't as many fighting games out to compete or over saturate the genre and considering at the moment... yeah i agree with him not releasing it now especially considering how much a inconsistent, letdown mess street fighter x tekken was.
This version of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 has the same amount of characters as its sequel: MVCI and yet its roster in 2011 is way better
Can you go over Marvel Nemesis and Justice League Task Force
I don't know why Capcom didn't bring back Megaman and Captain Commando for this game and some of the past characters were killed in the canon according to a poster found on one of the stages.
If you look carefully at the roster on both franchises, Every character was picked to promote upcoming titles, Crimson Viper = SFIV, Thor had a movie, Dr Strange had a movie coming so did Rocket racoon. Ghouls And Ghosts is a more sucsessful franchise than Cap Com (pun intended, by them). It's why sure faves like Cyclops, Ken, Sabretooth and Gambit did not make it back
Bruce Leeds example Doctor doom
@@paulakroy2635 Fantastic Four remake
I personally think the reason why Mega Man wasn't brought back was due to his projectile-based moveset. He didn't use projectiles too much in mvc 1 or 2, but the developers probably didn't like that representation of Mega Man, so they stuck to Zero and Tron who have more traditional movesets
@@bruceleeds7988 that came out 4years later
The sprite work from the original run has my heart. MvC3 was ok but I loved the prequels. I was looking for that same passion with UMvC3 but it never materialized. Arc System Works should make the next game if it ever gets made
Same here, but also keep in mind mvc2 was the arcades last hurrah in the United States. They were already dying when mvc2 came but at the time the big craze was fat people on DDR.
Arcsys shouldn't touch any Capcom game. Bad online, delayed PC port, poor balancing and more.
Black Out I disagree. Arc system works would do a perfect job in the animation department. Capcom can handle the other ends with marvel
It's a great game with an amazing roster, but doesn't have the fluidity and charm of the older titles.
100% true
Sharif Sourour This game has way more charm to than mvc2. Just look at Deadpool walk cycle
Solid Snake caping MVC2 had a charming and unique charm
@@paulakroy2635 ANYTHING deadpool is an exception to the rule when done properly
I like it more than infinite
UMVC introduced me to the FGC, nothing will ever top this, the passion, the time, the time I've spent in this game will be forever cherished by me
Unfortunately, the old die-hards mostly wanted MvC2-2. Fortunately, MvC3 was still good. (could have done without X-factor tho)
3 needed more Defensive options
Ramlethal Valentine Why? Your garbage if you cannot beat someone even if Xfactor
It’s a excuse for poor players
Ramlethal Valentine mvc3 was a spoon fed version of Tatsu v cap. Game was trash
Joseph Andreuccetti Lol x factor was busted and that’s not debatable
Bruce Leeds and more punishment for bad play.
Phoenix the most powerful character in the game
Easily the most op character
I love when she turns into Dark Phoenix
I hated how terribly nerfed she became in Ultimate. She definitely needed adjustment, such as the infinite air fireball keep away, but to reduce her health and defense even further was ridiculous.
Mr Sack she was still really good
Fighting Games 4 Ever Not really she needs bar
Once this version came out I was super excited ,badass a new mvc3 I even took the gigantic banner from work ,but as soon as I started playing, it was different ,for me it was those weird control scheme ,for years I was use to those 2 punches and 2 kicks ,mvc2 same concept not too different, now those 2 games are just used as backgrounds for my action figures the one with ghost rider still has it's cellophane wrapper on it
Featuring Morigan from Gameboy Color!
Yeeeaaahhhhhh!
At least she wasn't displayed in her Original Darkstalkers / Vampire Savior Sprite for the umpteenth time
@@kadosho02 in MvC 2 she looks the most out of place. She seriously looks like she came from the Gameboy Color.

agree
Why guilty? It’s legitimately an awesome game
@@Nay089 couldn't have said it better. Truth be told, umvc3 is my fav fighting game, and i play a plethora of fighting games.
No, guilty would be if you enjoyed Infinite. What they did to Venom is unforgivable, he annoyed me too much to play as him, and I MAINED him back in the day.

I hope capcom sort their act out with this series. Infinite was a great game to play but felt Un loved and a missed opportunity of a rosta
I actually prefer this over MvC2, and this is coming from someone who had the fortune to play both games at launch days.
Can you make a video about Primal Rage? It would be cool to se renewed interest in this forgotten game.
... & its cancelled sequel, which is playable in MAME.

@@josephandreuccetti8043 I read your comment in Mike Haggar's voice.
As someone who grew up on SFII, then lived for Xmen vs Street Fighter, UMvC3 is my favorite and I've poured way more time into it than any other fighter
Personally I love both MVC2 and MVC3. They each bring something different but equally awesome imo
2 still the greatest of the franchise
Generic 3D backgrounds, stripped-down controls, spammable assists & HORRIBLE music hold it back, for me. I prefer MvC1's backgrounds, music, last boss (Onslaught) & true, 6-button control scheme. If only MvC1 had had MvC2's impressive roster....
Ignore rusty, 2 with ALL the characters is the greatest, followed by X Men Vs SF
@@bruceleeds7988 - Meh..... @ least I can cite reasons & form a sentence. I even approved of MvC2's roster, shmuck.
4: Onslaught... is just Apocalypse reloaded, Abyss is much more interesting
5 MVC2 is a six button game
Creative Mind no umv3 is
I love this game a lot because I’m a huge marvel fan and I always wanted to play a fighting game with marvel characters so I thought this was the perfect game for me.
They need to go the route of dragon ball fighter z honestly.
11:00 Wait, when were the Marvel characters ever voiced by Japanese actors?
Never (except for Silver Samurai being played by a Capcom dev). First it was Toronto-based actors playing them from CotA thru MvC2 and then Japanese voices were considered for MvC3 but that idea was thrown out the window because, let's face it, it would sound wrong. LA actors who played the characters in the cartoons were used from then on (Doom and Shuma were instead played by Vancouver's Paul Dobosn instead).
Whens guilty gear?
Money was made.
Took me forever to get used to the control scheme of MvC3 after playing 2 for years.
Same. It's a learning process, since it's a totally different setup combo & combat system wise. With plenty of characters to learn & master
It was natural for me coming off of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. They have almost identical controls.
Big fan of Marvel 2, Marvel 3 I was really excited about when I bought it on day 1, but just didn't really get into it... I didn't like the 3D characters and that dark cel shaded shadow effect they add onto the characters... The game just felt ugly to me. :/
Love the content, and can't wait for the Ultimate version review.😎
I'd compare UMVC3 to SSBB, I love the game and casuals love the game, but the competitive side of me and others prefer SSBM and MVC2. Great video!
The difference is it had a very healthy competitive scene. “When’s Marvel?” was the meme for every fighting game stream, and they weren’t asking about MvC2.
@@Nay089 Good point, UMVC3 was likely more relative to MVC2, but even in the competitive scene, Brawl was more popular than Melee from 2008 to 2013.
Ehnkr2Beboh no mvc3 is loved a lot by viewers brawl was not
@@paulakroy2635 Brawl was the most popular competitive Smash game from 2008-2013, but like UMVC3, it eventually died down.
After reading your question in the thumbnail I have to ask: “Is this a trick question”? Lol 😂
Street fighter is already a weeb series. It also has a weeb character called ken.
IT'S MAHVEL, BABY!
The good one.
Unlike ultimate which got screwed over by Disney.
This one IS screwed. The dlc has all been removed, for purchase. Disney strikes again. The roster in this game sux, too.
I think you mean Infinite.
good not great though
Ultimate 3 was great tf are you on?
Strider Maverick Capcom screwed infinite way more than Disney
Short answer....no....it did not. Other than MVCI it was the fastest dying Marvel game made By Capcom. It literally almost lost its Evo slot after just like 4 years. Which was UNHEARD of for EVO. It was fun, but had so many flaws people got sick of it fairly quickly.
Yesssss!
Very detailed analysis
This was the game that got me into fighting games in the first place after this got street fighter 4 and the my all time fav soul caliber 2 on gcn
Top Hat Gaming Man You Must Really Love Teddy Long. Cause you Add him to your Videos a lot. LOL!!!
They should be able to be punished a bit easier just like in UMVC or even DBZ.
ultimate was legit perfect
Ultimate had the characters, but was REALLY slow. Play mvc2 and play mvc3. HUGE difference. Understand the fighting mechanics.
its the hypest game of all time, it by far surpassed and shattered all expectations. Even today is the standard all other fighters should be help too.
I can't wait for that Marvel vs Capcom infinite video
I love fighting game Thursday, do ultimate MvC next
It's not the best fighting game but I still enjoy playing it🎮
Since we gotta Mario 3D Allstars, Capcom should give us Marvel vs Capcom 1, 2, 3 Ultimate on Switch. I'd buy it. Who else would buy it?
ITS MAHVEL BABY
I honestly didn’t really care for MvC 3 compared to the older games. Didn’t like the art style, the button setup, or X Factor. MvC2 and X-Men vs SF will always be my favorite “Mahvel” series games.
Be glad xvssf didn't have online capabilities *when it was released*
Wave Razor Why? Lol. I’m glad we at least have Fightcade now where playing it online is actually possible.
Kush Man Yea that’s exactly how I feel about it. It’s “meh”. I just never took a real liking to it, it was okay but that’s about it.
Computer Man always getting a shoutout lol
I love this game, I can't lie- We played the absolute fck out of this when it dropped Feb 2011, I was totally blown away by the Galactus fight
Spiderman? It's not his last name, he is a Spider... Man!!! who got the reference??
This game's meta grew into "50/50 mix up followed by death" the game. SF4 had the same problem. For some reason Capcom in this era had a weird thing where they would simplify certain aspects of their fighters but then add dumb shit like characters having 50/50 vortexes that were difficult to get out of. MvC3 was made to intentionally be broken and easy on the execution side. But it got to the point to where whoever's touched their opponent first would wipeout their lifebar.
Hey man SF III Third Strike is a great game with a dope soundtrack to boot
I, like my fellow fighters, enjoyed MVC3! Aside from alot of keep away strategies competeive players implement, its still fantastic! There is, however, a few issues with it:
Great new cast additions-but low character count.
Fantastic music-but couldn't we get the original music as a option?
DLC remained DLC without no updates or patches.
MvC3 normal configuration is a 6 button game.
L, M, H, launch, assist 1, assist 2
mvc3 has a four button control or is S not considered a button????
umvc is one of my favs i like it on my vita and ps3. street fighter x tekken is also great. the fighting game i play most is street fighter 2 turbo on vita in capcom compelation .. greetings from vienna
