They need to bring out a M18 version of this because i bet we would see them everywhere on a lot of job sites. Reverse function is innovation and thats what we like Milwaukee for
I'd love to see Milwaukee make diamond coated blades thick enough for removing all sizes of grout lines. If it worked as well as I'm thinking along with that dust extractor it would make removing old grout easier than ever. Its definitely got the power for that task.
M12 is a great platform. I have this saw and use it primarily for cutting small metal pieces for metal art. Easy one hand operation for making accurate cuts. I also use it for cutting 18 gauge sheet metal patterns. This is the saw to own!
I just got one of these little cut-off saws and I used it Sunday for removing one tile from the shower. I used shroud primarily to control the depth of the cut so that I would not over cut and destroy the tile backer board underneath. It worked GREAT!!! The line of sight to the blade as it got near the edges was excellent with the shroud, and the dust collection actually worked. And I heard Rob say the speed on tile was slow, but I found it went through the tile easily. I am a tool hog and I am sure it will become well used in my arsenal of carpentry. Now where the heck is it going to live in the van?
Barry Summerlin it was slow on the 3/8 “ glazed ceramic tile I cut. There are diff thicknesses and types of tile - I’m glad it worked great - it’s certainly an innovative problem solver
Great presentation (as always). You’ll wonder how you did without this little tool. Your grinder will get lonely, especially for small jobs or working in tight spaces. I just bought a set of 36-tooth wood cutting blades (knock off brand). These work, but you’d best pay attention while using, even with the dust shroud.
Great and honest review. I think this is well suited for hvac work and possibly for cutting tile backer board. It seemed that cutting tile was better left to a wet saw or grinder. The review really gave the viewer a good sense of this tool's capability, so great job.
Rob, this thing works great with the dremel sawmax wood/plastic blades for cutting wood. Been using it to pretrim cedar shakes on inside and outside woven corners before I finish with the block plane.
Great review as always! Thank you. Have many Milwaukee tools, but I'll just stick with my angle grinder for cutting metal, multi tool with tile blade and wet saw for tile and tin snips for sheet metal. If it had the wood cutting ability I would have been much more interested.
The dust guard is not closing the gap down to the cutting material. I can smell the dust just watching this video. It look nice, but I think I stick with dremel like tool for tiny tasks and angle grinder for bigger ones. Also the good dust shield for angle grinder makes more sense.
I have 3 of these tools 1 is a orginal cut off tool the second one I have was converted to a 3/8 by 13 inch finger belt sander and the third one I have was converted to a 1/2 by 18 inch finger belt sander I wish this tool had a variable speed trigger over the its on or its off I also agree seems kinda under powered very underwhelming on power do love the power as a finger sander but not powerful enough on certain cutting tasks
If you want small and make straight cuts. Rockwell small plunge saw rocks. It is corded. I have cut steel air intakes, tons of stucco and cement board. Has a laser on board for straight cuts.
I think Dremel has a 3" carbide wood blade which would fit. Using the shroud/base (and remembering to spin in the right direction)... seems like it should be fine, even at 20,000. Can you see the cut line with the shoe on?
Have you tried? ⅝" depth seems alost pointless for wood...I mean it would be great for a quick cut on a 2x4 in a pinch...but ⅝" on each side won't even make it through.
I use this thing on Car Bearing races..As it can get in there and notch the bearing race. That always stick to the hub. You can't do that with the bigger 4 1/2" blades... So no need to get out the torch or plasma cutter...
I want to do a few of consults, according your experience, What do you think about safety concerns related with this tool? what is the main difference between this one and angle grinders?Could be this cut off tool a safer option than angle grinders? Thanks
A little late to the review, but as usual, excellent objective review that your readers can trust. Would this be an appropriate tool to remove grout on tile flooring?
You can put a wood blade on it. 3” blades are not available here, but you can order them from the UK. It doesn’t make a very good circular saw however because it is too underpowered. Cutting 1/2 material I have to take my time and I can easily stall it.
After using it with a wood blade for a few months I ended up going back to the cutoff blade. I really wanted a tiny, lightweight circular saw for trim work and cutting plywood and such, but this saw is so underpowered in that role that it never got used. Also, the 3” blades can’t make a cut through 3/4” material. With the abrasive blade on it, it makes a good general purpose cutting tool for thin metals, plastics, etc... For ducting or metal screen it’s great.
With the vacuum attachment and a wider blade this would be awesome for repairing damaged grout on my brick house if the shroud was clear or had guides tabs to stay between the bricks.
I’m planning to make hole vents in the exterior of my house since it doesn’t have any to let the hot air out... would anyone recommend this tool to do some siding work?
@@ConcordCarpenter hmmm doesn't make any sense coz why change the model number if the only difference is just a bigger battery included on the box? Coz on the -20 model although it's just bare tool, dust shroud, blades and guards are included inside the box
@@rafaelmolina123 Thats how Milwaukee does it. First 4 digits are tool, then a dash, then last 2 numbers are what kit you bought. Cutting length of hardie board, took three batteries possible one was at 2 bars to start, did not enjoy the experience slow bogged often stopped frequently even scoring and dropping at 1/4" per run
It seems less bulky to me, and that's why it's superior for some applications. The pistol grip should greatly improve maneuverability in one handed applications and the foot plate will give you much greater precision for cutting flat over a grinder. I don't think this is the kind of tool that most people are going to want/need but for some guys doing specific things this tool is going to be a god send.
Jayjayhooks: It looks about 2 or 3x wider. The dust collection is a nice touch but i don’t see it replacing my angle grinder so it’s a tool with redundancy - so I’m not convinced it’s worth the added cost and space in my truck.
I agree, it's not going in my tool box either. Between a grinder and oscillating tool it's not going to offer anything I can't already get at. I think you might find it's smaller than you're imagining though, it's 12 volt after all. I have some of the m12 tools and that's one of the larger batteries on it for reference. Im fairly certain it would do a better job than the grinder and/or oscillator in a lot of applications but not anything you couldn't do with a little more elbow grease.
Been doing it for years is never a reason to do anything though. Whenever I see terrible craftsmanship on a jobsite, the perpetrator of the crime always says, "ehhh it's fine, been doing it that way for years"
Just keep on mind the ceramic tile is hard to cut must bee pacient cuting this material am sure this little tool have the power enough to due the job well
Legal wise no one will tell you that will work, but for me it worked fine with a Dremel blade, but too expensive to use a lot I feel due to the cost of the blades, no way saying to use a wood cutting blade is what you should do.
Looks difficult to see the saw line with the guard in place. Maybe good portability when electrical power is unavailable but owning one of these like most battery operated tools would require that you have a second battery which becomes very expensive...especially when replacement is needed. I rather prefer one that's powered by an electrical outlet, more powerful & consistent...but that's just my opinion folks.
Rick Rodrigues I, M afraid your in the minority- cordless is King. This is not a core tool, it’s a specialty tool. Basically the folks that buy this tool will already be on the M12 platform

Mj - I’ve had this for a couple months. It cuts drywall ok if you go very slow. Once you push it too fast, it will stop and can’t move until you pull the blade out and plunge cut it back in.
Bosch 12v has it the same but lighter. I'm done with the green ryobi. It smoked on me as I was trying to drill one 1/2 2x4 hole and I only have it a year. The first it smoked was a earlier model dark blue drywall cut out. Junks. Buy cheap buy it twice.
