One of Petty's actual Superbird racecars went up for auction at Mecum or Barrett's. I don't remember which. Bidding stopped at ten million. The owner said thank you but no ,I'll just take it home for that. Unbelievable piece of history. Priceless.

Coo video and I guess the movie cars continues to fuel the myth about the superbird.......that FACTS though.......the superbird only won 8 races, petty only won three in it......while in 69, he recorded 8 wins in a Talledega Torino.

Of course that's with Just the driver and the CAR. No bumping of cars, no drafting cars, no 2 wides, accidents just the CARS! The owners always agreed on one thing, that to tell who has a better chance of winning a race if their luck ( no wrecks,Breakdowns) holds out the cars that run the fastest and grab the polls and the first couple rows had a better chance to win with better speed, anyways The Mopars also got ALOT more top 3 and Top5 cars along With those wins you talked about. They were of course the First cars to 200 out there and on The proving grounds and another 2 tracks ( Hidden away from EYES) the Birds and Daytona's hit speeds OF over 240 mph engineers and test drivers said. They also had a video with 2 hitting 243 and 245 MPH!! They figured and they were right, that other manufacturers and drivers would start to talk and then walk if they were spotted at those speeds not to mention the race and NASCAR Officials would probably not like that. 😁. Bobby Isaac tried so hard to keep his speed down when running for speed to not get other people all riled up but after a bit, he opened the big car up some and the rest is History .

Looked my records up, the accuracy up on all and it was as dead on as could be. As a matter of fact even NASCAR admits that the much dominate and fast cars for the period are.....Charger Daytona and Plymouth Superbird. In fact they say, it was not even close.
To see the "King" out on the racetrack at age 80 driving his ol true blue friend #43 is just GOLDEN!
