Whats about Sofia? She claims to be he niece of Nazeem and Ahlam which where forcing her to leave the farm of her dead dad. sofia is strangly also not an redguard like Babette which should also be an redguard. This could simply be one of the many oversights from Bethesda again. Many Things in you video were propably also oversights and cut contend from Bethesda. Hi Camel. Maybe you could investigate on lord Harkon backstory? Castle Volkihar has so many ancient Nordic carpets and banners, he has a dragon priest dagger stored in his room. He wants to take out the sun, the eye of the dragon Akatosh. He claims to have been a powerful ruler once, and even his name "Harkon" is very similar to Konahrik, when we switch the letters. Wich is my fav theory, him being Konahrik. Also, that is similar to Erik, in norse it means Sole Ruler/Forever ruler. The dragon battle theme starts playing in his boss fight. He has a Akavir Sword, Akavir also known as land of dragons. Serana not knowing about the empire of Cyrodiil, wich came long after the dragon cult. There's so many clues that relate him to dragons. And also on why Vingalmo is referenced in the book "night of tears", making him actually older than Harkon, thus wanting the throne. And Harkon did wanted to get rid of his mortality, wich is a thing many dragon priests have done, specially Hevnoraak.
@@Prowler142 Konahriik exist in the game as I rembenber right? Harkon were probably the king of Falkreath and is probaly a Dragenborn. Dengeir, Siddgier, Thadgeier and Vighar are surely part of harkons clan/family. Vighars little clan were also the first description of the Volkihar clan anyway. Also were it surely a Volikhar Clan Vampire which freed Vighar from his grave.
I personally saved Nazeem in a Companions quest once. He was being held by a group of vampires. The thought of Nazeem possibly becoming immortal as well as a pompous jerk was too great a risk to not save him from.
@Tifa600 You think I wasn't asking the same question and it had to be on a paladin tank good guy build saving as many people as possible from all the evils of the world so the obvious "accidently" kill him solution would have been a roleplay breaking move.😇
@Tifa600 To be honest in that same playthrough because of a couple mods added Nazeem ended up dying anyway later on so no harm no foul. The one mod added in Wintersand Manor, Nazeem's house, outside the city and Nazeem got caught out in the open and burnt to death in a dragon attack since there was also a mod working that made dragon attacks much more dangerous and dragons much stronger. That was even with another mod that made townsfolk flee for the lives when dragons or vampires or pretty much anything attacked. A different mod caused Grelod the Kind to get murdered at a holiday celebration in Riften, not by me.
The funniest thing about Nazeem is that if you kill him during one of the quests (either Dawnguard or DB, I can't remember) that require a high profile victim and planting notes on the body, you will fail the high profile part of the quest. So apparently, he's just talking out his bum.
He is high profile, judging by one line of dialogue by his wife, but it's just that no one cares. Everyone hates him so much they don't care if he dies. 😂😂😂😂
In my current playthrough, Nazeem has been on some very good behavior. I’ve run into him at least 5 times, and not one mention of the cloud district. He sees another day.
I'm surprised I haven't heard more from him in my most recent playthrough given that I'm acting as a Whiterun guard and have spent entire days patrolling the roads in and around the town.
Best guess: Nazeem and his wife used to be moderately affluent. As the war took off, Nazeem tried to profiteer by buying up a local farm and hiring an elemental mage farmer to enhance the crops he grew ("mine are twice as fresh"); this fell apart when the mage turned out to be a terribly inept farmer and the Jarl largely discouraged either side from setting up shop within his walls (lack of thalmor, empire, or stormcloaks means no way to profit selling magically enhanced crops which stay fresh longer). Nazeem spent a great deal of time early in the war trying to convince the Jarl to allow Empire, Thalmor, or Stormcloaks to resupply in town but he never made it that far - he got turned away at the gates but made such a big fuss about it to his wife and anyone who would listen, he got deep in the delivery and had to lie about the results (the jarl listening to his input on matters above our heads). As the farm continued to sap his investment, he held out hope to turn a profit - he tries to convince people in town how great his crops are while snubbing his nose at everyone else's products. The owner of the bar he and his wife sleep in either owed his wife a favor or took pity on them - the fact Nazeem continues to snub his nose at his landlord leads me to believe it was his wife who made the arrangements and out of respect for their arrangement, the landlord doesn't take Nazeem's stupidity seriously. So in the end: Nazeem is an entitled, delusional little man who lost everything on a bad business venture. His wife kept a roof over their head while he fettered away the money they had and he spends his days sauntering around town being a general menace, but everyone takes pity on him for his circumstances and just treats him like a mildly annoying fly - they let him play aristocrat, let him talk big, then gently dismiss him and he goes on his way. He fails to acknowledge the extent to which his greed and poor business skills have affected his marriage, he lacks self-awareness so he thinks people not only respect him but his condescending attitude is impressive/a comfort to his wife, and he's so caught up in his desperation that he fails to appreciate how blatantly destitute they are because of him. Any other person might see this setup as a wrong step and buckle down to scrape out a living, but he's content clinging to his past wealth and status thinking either one is still intact - this is a temporary set back at worst, he's still on top of the world, others just cant see the big picture he has going on behind the scenes, he's playing the long game and will come out in top in the end. Nazeem certainly has his head in the cloud district
I had the same thought that he hired an elemantal wizard to experiment on the crops, parhaps if he had a more secure revenue source and there was no war then he perhaps could become a forword thinking tycoon in the agricultural industry. Curently he's set up to fail, having spent his fortune on an ecentric expiriment that ether won't see results, no one takes siriusly, or needs way more time and resurces
While I have always wondered who Nazeem is, what I really want to know is whether you go to the cloud district very often? Oh what am I saying, of course you don’t
Of course I do. In fact, I actually advise the jarl on political matters. My input is invaluable, of course. But this is all probably a bit over your head.
Odd enough, it was the complete opposite for me. I never actually thought to get a hour long vid of nazeem, but I always somehow expected camel to do it
The whole "combat elemental mage as a farmer" thing is very easy to explain once you realize that the guy just lied on the resume he gave Nazeem and our favorite egotist was too busy getting off to the sound of his own voice to realize he'd been duped.
@@HappyBeezerStudios Or alternatively, use magicka to help the crops grow faster albeit in a less awful way than Rorikstead seems to. Heck, might even be that the whole thing's a front and that the farm is more of a lookout post, which also provides another explanation for how Nazeem might be "advising" the Jarl (sorta like an inverted Razum-dar; annoying on purpose instead of charming on purpose to distract from his job).
I love how a single key being In an Npcs inventory tells us so much about what is happening between nazeem and his wife this is the kind of story telling i love
Weird statement here but... I always thought Jarl Balgruuf would make the better High King of Skyrim. He allows Heimskir to preach the word of Talos. He negotiates with and supports the Empire which protects his peoples freedoms from the Thalmor Incursion. He is the only Jarl to openly and fully support the Dragonborn from the get go. So much that he hastily makes the Dragonborn a Thane and allows the dragonborn to capture a dragon in his castle. Even before all that he has his court wizard studying the dragons and is in contact with Delphine well before the Dragonborn even arrives. While all the other Jarls are pretending to rule to squabbling over their ideologies. Jarl Balgruf the Greater is actually ruling his Jarldom and bringing money in. He's likely adopted children to give them a better chance and to have heirs... I'd vote for him.
I legit never did the storm cloak or empire quests because ousting him from whiterun completely soured the quest for me in the same way being told to kill parthanax soured the blades for me. I really wish there was like a third faction with balgruf and the one nord veteran in Windhelm who hates war.
Have you heard about Balgruff going slumming occasionally and getting drunk? They occasionally chide him for that in the throne room. If Nazeem doesn't go to the mountain, the mountain comes to Nazeem.
The _deep Nazeem lore_ we didn't know we needed! I never realized how professionally and Anoriath managed to deal with Nazeem. Quick wit and no visible offense taken. Kinda gained respect for a fictional elven meat salesman there.
@@kyledylan77 Lots of farmers with cows in the area. There's literally always at least one farmer on his way to sacrifice one of his cows to the giants on the road. And there are plenty of farms surrounding Whiterun. It wouldn't make sense for him not to constantly have beef.
@@Sleepy_Apocalypse Yeah, my issue was that the bosmer claimed he hunted the fresh meat daily. Implying he was hunting cattle. I don't believe I've seen wild cattle. Leading me to believe he is hunting the cattle on the farms.
now IF he hunts cattle on the farms nearby, that might be why someone actually did the black sacrament on him, forcing the dragonborn/listener to take him out of the hunting business@@kyledylan77
Delphine is the most hated character in my opinion. Cause she questions you at everything you do when you first meet her, boss you around as though you owe her, constantly doubt your abilities to slay dragons even though at this point you’ve killed at least two, forces you to do her bidding with no input from you to object, decides that she’ll only help you if you abandon the Way of the Voice training, she demands Paathunax death otherwise she won’t allow you to be a part of the Blades even though she said herself the Blades are at the service of the Dragonborn. This is just a very very small sample of all the things I hate about her. Nazeem doesn’t even compare. All he is, is a bigot, narcissist and ignorant. He has three lines that annoy people whenever you meet him and he’s a absent husband. Bad qualities for sure, but nowhere near the mountain of bad Delphine is.
@@therogueserafim271 Braith is a very bad attempt at making a Tsundere by the developers. If she had more interactions beyond her angry outburst lines, she could become rather compelling. As she is though, she’s just pretentious. Not enough to call her the most hated Character imo. Especially when it’s rare to run into her multiple times unlike Nazeem.
I use a mod that, every time Nazeem mentions the cloud district, flings him about 50 feet straight up into the air... sometimes he survives, sometimes he doesn't... but it's always funny to see. Also, the skeleton by Dragonsreach belong to someone Maven Blackbriar had killed, you can find letters that hint at that.
Ah, a fellow Dragon Punishment for Cloud District Quips enjoyer. I've noticed that if Nazeem hits anything on the way up, he usually doesn't survive ground impact. Had him bounce off the arch between the market and Gildergreen plaza a few times on different saves, and he never got back up.
I sadly have to admit that I have indeed rescued Nazeem for the Companions. It was under duress, it was early on in the Companions quest line, and I was given one of those filler quests. I wanted to be a werewolf, so I held my tongue, stayed my hand, and brought him back in one piece. The game gave an apology later as a few hours later, I walked out of the Bannered Mare, saw a body drop out of the sky and decided to investigate closer. Nazeem went splat in the middle of the Whiterun market to brighten everyone's day.
On a more serious note, I do believe that Nazeem is telling the truth when he says he visits the Cloud District and advices the Jarl, based on the fact that in vanilla Skyrim he doesn't visit the farm but he does own it, his wife also mentions him constantly spending more and more time with the Jarl and less with her, which means he does really visit the Jarl he was just not programmed to do so.
I don't even see a problem in him not visiting the farm. He owns the place, but that doesn't mean he was to work there. He hires someone else to do that.
I must say. Didn't click on this expecting a long analysis of how Nazeem and the Jarl might be polishing their swords together under the sheets, but I loved every moment. I love it when people go deep down the speculation hole.
The amount of cut content in Whiterun alone is staggering, and considering it's pretty much the town most players spend their time at, if that content had been fully developed and not scrapped, the Elder Scrolls V as a whole might have been perceived very differently by the playerbase.
Wasted potential is the defining trait of Bethesda games, it would seem. Ever since Oblivion horribly squandered Cyrodil and all the interesting racial and political tensions as well as the city and ecosystem designs that previous games described, they've only been further and further downhill with every game. It's really sad honestly, to think about how amazing these games could have been if the devs had the time and (more importantly) the care to craft something wonderful instead of settling for barely passable. The idea of what Skyrim and Fallout 4 could have been if they still had the writers and passion they had with Morrowind is amazing; unfortunately, now it's just horribly tragic knowing that we will never see such a thing because Bethesda doesn't have writers or passion anymore.
Fascinating video, several observations: 1. Horker are not native to Whiterun hold, so Nazeem most likely has a point about the freshness of the meat. 2. It's really interesting to see the original design for Whiterun. It would be awesome if modders redid the city (or part of the city) to include this original design and Wintersand Manor in one of the places indicated. 3. I choose to accept all these theories as fact, even the ones lacking in evidence, just out of how hilarious that would be 😂 4. Skyrim investigation idea: who in Oblivion in Elisif the Fair? Who is she to marry a high king and then be an acceptable candidate for jarl of Solitude and high queen?
@@cnut7383 Why not? He could have tried horker before, he could have travelled, he could know this information. He actually lives at their hunting store, so he likely knows things beyond what you can see from the stall.
As soon as I heard that saucy Nazeem line... my jaw dropped and I remembered the "Check the Jarl's backside comment." I thought wow that opens a lot of speculation; how cool! But damn Camel, you dug even deeper and uncovered a whole plot to a riveting political intrigue novel! Good on you man! People like you keep the ES community thriving!
Considering both Nazeem and Balgruuf often slip into the Bannered Mare, while his wife is alone with another man... Well, the evidence Nazeem may have a very intimate relationship with the Jarl is certainly there.
I'm just starting the video but I have a theory that part of Amren's schedule was supposed to belong to Nazeem. From UESP: "On Tirdas and Turdas he [Amren] breaks off from his normal routine at 10am and spends four hours inside Dragonsreach, either eating or wandering about." Amren gets to the Cloud District, knows the Jarl...and it makes his quest seem weird. Given that he has Balgruff's friendship and visits him twice a week, you'd think the Jarl wouldn't mind helping him get his sword back. Meanwhile, Nazeem is supposed to be an advisor--someone who has the Jarl's ear either in an official or unofficial capacity but is still trusted regardless--but never makes it to Dragonsreach (the infamous Cloud District) at all. If this is actually the case, why did the mix-up happen? My guess would be because they are the only two Redguard men in Whiterun and that enabled something to get screwed up along the way. Regardless, it would be pretty hilarious, along with the fact of Nazeem's house being deleted, if part of his intended schedule was given to another character.
That’s a really funny accidentally racist occurrence then. With them being the only two redguard men in whiterun and they got them mixed up in the scripts 😂😂. Woulda pictured amren hanging around Jorrvaskr being a sell sword and all but he never ventured closer than the gildergreen.
Well done! I would question the assumption that same-sex relationships are looked down upon in Skyrim, as all marriagable NPCs will gladly marry either sex if the conditions are met. I'd think it mire likely that Balgruuf's and Nazim's loveless/sexless marriages were entered into on the basis of political or economic considerations...and, while same-sex relationships are not frowned upon, adultery is viewed as a betrayal and disapproved by Nord society.
There's a thousand named NPCs in this game and not a single same sex couple. You'd think there were some people openly swinging that way. However considering that the possibility for same sex marriage is based in NPCs not having a programmed sexuality, it's most easily attributed to Bethesda being lazy shits and putting a minimal amount of effort into the marriage mechanic beyond making sure it exists for the sake of marketability.
@@CErra310no there is one in the dragonborn dlc, yes by the time you get there they are dead, just head east when you get to solstime. Also in Britain and France in the middle ages many rulers were gay and/or bisexual.
I used to hate Nazeem. I'm doing a survival run right now and not too long ago, as I was in Whiterun selling some things, I was pretty thirsty and had no drinks in my inventory so I was on my way to Belethor's to buy some. Out of nowhere this glorious, misunderstood man said something basically along the lines of, "I like you, you don't suck like other people," then proceeded to hand me an ale. Good man.
We know that frost magic and potions can be used to preserve crops; What if Wilmuth was employed by Nazeem to keep his crops fresh but somehow, Wilmuth gained control of the farm as the default boss in everything but paperwork? Though that begs the question, what could Wilmuth possibly know to have that sort of leverage over Nazeem to keep him out of his own farm?… hmmm…
I was thinking something along these lines also. Or maybe he's using his magic to help grow the crops, like in ESO on Artaeum the Psijics use storm atronachs to conjure rain clouds and water the crops.
@@Camelworks I was thinking Wilmuth was using his magic to setup running the farm. Maybe he is overconfident so he thinks his magic extends further than it does like magicking the mill to work on its own and the crops to plant themselves. Only they don't because his magic isn't _that_ good and thus the farm itself is decaying.
Don't forget, Balgruff periodically sneaks down to the Bannered Mare. The same Bannered Mare where Nazeem spends a good portion of his day. I think it's likely he's meeting Nazeem there, while Alam gets her needs met by her coworker- and maybe even coworkers (wink wink to the fanfic writers).
This was really cool! Rather than just re-releasing graphics, it makes me wish that they could do an overhaul of the game, adding features that were cut and expanding the world and the characters inside it! This got me genuinely intrigued, and I would LOVE to see stuff like this explored!
This theory would explain how Nazeem actually acquired his wealth (if we do continue to believe he is wealthy), which would be that he got it from the Jarl and not his measly little farm.
Regarding Nelkir being Balgruuf's brother, I think there's a simple explanation for this. Assuming that Balgruuf is a Human being, then he too has had a father and mother, and let us assume that Hrongar took up more after their father than Balgruuf did. If that supposition was true, then I could see Balgruuf's and Hrongar's father also spending his time pub crawling and teaching any woman that catches his fancy how to Shout. Being a Nord, it wouldn't surprise me that even in his advanced age he would have enough energy to have a tryst with a tavern maid, and one such romantic rendezvous could have resulted in Nelkir being born. Thus, Balgruuf would have encountered a younger brother who could have passed off as his own child, and thus adopted him into his family, whilst keeping his true origins a secret. But we don't know much about Balgruuf's extended family, so this thought shall remain a simple theory.
Head canon: the Manor used to be there in the cloud district, but Ahlam and Nazeem fell on hard times, so the house was sold and dismantled (maybe to be an extension of the Jarl's Hall property during an expansion) and moved to that hunter's place, with Nazeem keeping his rich clothes and maintained any status due to a secret relationship with the Jarl, maybe some prestige from marrying a servant of Divinity, and hiring a former Mage of the college who had nowhere to go as a farmer to keep the farm running.
A tragic interpretation of the cut content could be that Nazeem was scammed. He forked over his savings for a fake building project in the Cloud District, leaving him near destitute and his farm underfunded. Everything he does is in service of not breaking the delusion that he has a manor and finally part of the upper crust of society and to bury the shame fraud victims tend to suffer.
I’ll admit I went into this wondering how the heck someone could possibly talk about Nazeem for an hour, but this was ridiculously entertaining and funny. Who knew that arrogant knot head was so complex
Your massive aside on the VERY STRANGE primary skills for Ahlam and Acolyte Jenssen, as well as some marvelous screen shots of him "getting handsy" with her, and him having a key to her place, AND her having a strange daily schedule, had me nearly crying from laughing so hard. This was some DANG fine detective work Camel. Dang fine. Kind of like Ahlam ;)
I actually used a Nazeem follower mod along with a very modded game and role played as a thane of skyrim as well as Nazeems bodyguard. We would just run around while I slayed dragons and he'd insult me the entire time
I'm surprised that this wasn't brought up, since part of the dialog was used, but Balgruuf and his kids are tied to the Mephala Quest. That quest is also famously one that was clearly cut to shreds with only the barest minimum. Mephala is the daedric prince of sex and death. What if the cut content regarding Nazeems home in the cloud district and the cut content regarding the Mephala quest were connected, and the quest was originally about trying to identify the true parents of Balgruuf's kids? The idea of everyone cheating on each other with someone else would be a perfect complication to that kind of plot, and play into Mephala's sphere as well.
I never thought I'd see a one hour video on such a non-character. Either the Elder Scrolls is just that deep, or Camel has quite thoroughly lost his marbles
I honestly think there was a far more elegant solution to "where do we put these now homeless NPCs" then shoving them in someone's attic, and I'm surprised none of the developers thought of this. One of the other NPC homes is literally NEVER USED BY SAID NPC! THEY NEVER GO THERE! I am, of course, speaking of the Follower Uthgerd the Unbroken who, despite having a home, sits in her little corner at The Bannered Mare 24/7! They could have made The Mare her "home" and given Uthgerd's house to Nazeem and his wife. At least then they would have there own place. Oh well...
@@dasik84 Considering his high and mighty attitude, I think living on a dirty old farm would be beneath him. It makes more sense for him to have a home in town. He seems to be just the farm's landlord after all and clearly has nothing to do with the day-to-day operations.
“Do you get to the cloud district very often? Ah, what am I saying? Of course you don’t.” Nazeem says to the Dragonborn, decked out in full Daedric Armor, carrying 2 dragonbone swords, leader of the Dark Brotherhood, leader of the Nightingales, the Thane of every major city, and the slayer of Alduin.
@@JamesTheCelestial He does. I immediately disliked Hisoka when I heard his voice, but couldn't figure out why until I discovered he also voiced Nazeem
You should dissect all dark brotherhood side quest assassinations and who put out the hit and why. Great content to dive into. As always phenomenal work camel, you never fail to impress me with the quality of content. S Tier🏆🏆🏆
In my current playthrough either the gods took Nazeem out or he did himself in because I came into Whiterun one day and all I see is his body on the path next Belethor's. Or he collectively pissed the whole town off while I was away lol.
While both Nazeem and Heimskr are annoying, there's nobody I hate more than Maven Black-Briar, Delphine and Elenwen. Loved the stream, now to watch the final product. Thank you for your continued work for the Elder Scrolls community, Camel. You're a champ!
@@InquisitorThomas She looses her essential status once you finish the main quest, making her killable. But you need to infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy. There are a few videos on RUclips on how to do that. I always go back there to kill her.
This deserves a questline mod. The player has each of these characters as questgivers and followers at some point in passive aggressive backstabbing maneuvers at some point, and ends with the reveal that Nazeems is actually a Daedric Prince or something...
I had discovered some of the Wintersands Manor stuff you point out in the video, and worked out that the building at one point had a reference number before being deleted - there's a skip in numbers down in the lower district and the Drunken Huntsman has a further along id number than the other buildings. I initially thought that the Hunstman was the location for Wintersands originally, but the former Whiterun plan makes much sense for the Nazeem character. It would be interesting to know how much was built/arranged before redesign. Maybe you can get a AMA with Kirkbride some day. Thanks for the video.
I can't believe I just sat through over an hour of Nazeem content and enjoyed it! I enjoy all of your videos, but I was honestly skeptical of this one at first. You definitely have talent, as your Curating Curious Curiosities videos have proven, but this was also an impressive display and genuinely interesting!
This video is what introduced me to your channel. Quality work, subtle and sly humor, and a relaxing voice! Subscribed immediately, and I can’t wait to binge your detective content!
I know it’s no fun but maybe when the jarl had all three kids labelled as his they interrupted key scenes linked to the main quest and they decided this was the easiest way to fix it ?
Hmm I don't think that's it. But I do share the sentiment. My theory is that they don't want the kids to have friendly dialogues with the DB since they are to be portrayed as spoiled brats. It'd be weird like svari(?) in solitude, where after you finish her quest she's friendly and all she said is "you're the best. will you be my father/mother?" even though she already has parents
And as a consequence, the kids don't share the friendliness of the jarl, and would kick you out of their place in the keep even though jarl ballin let the DB sleep in his bed lmao
Just wish they also stopped the steward from interrupting the soldier that informs the Jarl of the dragon attack, I don't think I've ever heard that whole dialogue uninterrupted!
This was amazing to watch, both in it's final form and from the footage on stream over on Twitch. Thank you so much for sharing your work! I always had a feeling that there was something more to Nazeem and Ahlam, but we just don't get to see it; even if it's all just speculation there's a lot of evidence that something more was planned for them. Something that's always puzzled me, and might be worth looking into, are the different group dynamics between the Companions and the Thieves Guild. When the player joins the Companions, everyone is supposed to be your brother or sister in arms, but nearly everyone openly dislikes you except for a couple of NPCs like Kodlak Whitemane. However, compared to the Thieves Guild, everyone is overly open with their life story; you can't go two steps without some thief waving you down and telling you all about what skills they have and how they got there. Why do thieves care more about the player then your shield brothers and sisters? It's all very weird. Anyway, thanks again Camel. You wondrous mad lad, you!
I'm not entirely convinced around balgruuf not being the father of the children in dragonsreach, since the only evidence is found in the game files. Which isn't exactly an accurate or relyable source of information. I personally believe that there is another secret with balgruuf; where he may have killed his wife with the ebony blade, convienently in his basement. I also believe that balgruuf has a secret affair with Carlotta, due to her home furnishings being incredibly lavish for the plains district. And that Nelkir is actually Carlotta's son - taken in by balgruuf to avoid controversy. Hence why i'm not entirely sold on the idea of dagni, frothar and nelkir being the children of hrongar. But great video 'redguard'-less. (Also, this theory that I have presented could be further explored if you wish to, it's an idea that is rarely mentioned in the community.)
@@lisamarie06 my take on that theory is that he did not kill his wife with the Ebony Blade. I think his wife was the one in possession of the blade and he was forced to put her down. No definitive proof of this, but I don't find a man of honor doing that without reason. Also, the Blade does not call to Balgruuf who actively keeps it locked up and away from himself and the court (only to Nelkir). It has no sway over him, so it likely never did because I don't think it lets go once it has you. I think his wife killed quite a few people, and potentially tried to kill him or his children, and in the strain of the relationship Balgruuf sired an illegitimate child. Nelkir is basically a result of the blade (it is part of him hence the darkness in him) and now it calls to him. Quite the web for Mephala to spin.
@@ReformedSauron Your theory has weight, but there's just a lack of evidence to prove it. And the warning book found on the table next to the blade seems extremely personal. It is also extremely possible for such a noble and honorable man like Balgruuf to fall under its influence; as it states that it has: "Corrupted the desires of 'great' men and women."
Killed nazeem, trapped his soul in a black gem, enchanted ragged cloth and equipped the beggar in whiterun with it. May he piss himself and wash it off with nazeems soul.
My theory is that Nazeem was in fact a successful businessman in Hammerfell until he and his wife were forced to flee for some reason. Using the last of his coin, he bought the farm outside of whiterun but his stuck-up personality that he still has from when he was wealthy keeps anyone from buying his produce, ensuring he will remain in the plains district and continue spending what little coin he gets from his farm and wife’s job in order to rent the attic in the Drunken Huntsmen.
Considering what happened in the great war, I wouldnt be shocked if him or his parents had to flee Hammerfell. Basically the empire had to disassociate with Hammerfell in order to get the White Gold Concordat signed. Hammerfell went to war with the Thalmor in the region. Nazeem may have been taken to Skyrim by his parents, or his parents were refugees before conceiving him.
Glad to see the video is finally done. I was there for the streams where you made this and the hilarity that ensued when trying to capture footage for this was insane. Keep up the good work Camel.
nazeem hired a mage to make his vegetables more fresher, with elemental magic, like in riften the dark elf that uses frost teeth to preserve her meat for longer
He's totally on a secret mission for the Thalmor or someone. I'd been casually assuming he was some sort of spy with his story cut out but your video does really well to flesh out that concept into a mini theory. Really fun video, hope you're taking care of yourself!
I made coffee, got a pillow, hell i even got a blanket, all whilst being ready for a nice informative lore video. what did I receive? The most diabolical knowledge bomb that changes my fundamental understanding of the elder scrolls and the wider fantasy genre as a whole: Nazeem was gay, who woulda thought.
Can't believe you wasted a joke opportunity for Wilmuth, the elemental mage, like he was actually using his earth element magic to do his job. Also would be an interesting addition to check the reaction of jarl (maybe also Jensen and Ahlam) on naked characters, just in case. But that was cool anyway. I didn't expect it to go that much deep (pun wasn't intended) in that way...
i rarely leave comments, on anything, but i was compelled, the narrative and deduction skills are second to none, but on top of that , humor through sublety, hilarious keep up the amazing work, your a master of your craft
Boy this went into some directions I didn't expect. Makes a lot of sense though. Not sure about the Jarl, given that Nazeem says his lines about the Jarl whether it's Balgruuf or Vignar Grey-Mane.
You know... I don't really hate Nazeem. He was designed to be a pompous fool. (And he is oddly amusing with how smug he is.) Delphine on the other hand.... I can't help but feel Bethesda tried to make you like her. But failed SO HARD there. I'll always side with Super Parthio over her. An intentionally annoying character will always be better than an unintentionally annoying one. Because at least the former is doing his job right. Edit: Finished the video. And... so, Jarl Ball'n is not only one of the best NPCs in Skyrim, but he's also a gay icon? Interesting... never heard this theory before, but seems oddly plausible.
To be fair the first time through skyrim, I liked delphine and saw her as a cool female rogue type. Her attitude when it comes to esbern is what changed my mind though lol
I absolutely loved this video, i have a theory about the design document for the scrapped version of whiterun. I belive that those two buildings on either side of dragonsreach are the houses of clans greymane and battleborn. I think wintersand would be one of their massive houses in the wind district. Nazzem only goes to the cloud discrict so he can be at the jarls' backside. I dont think he was supposed to live there.
I really hope someone makes a mod that restores some of this because at the very least the majority of this is now cannon in my head. It makes a lot of sense. I don’t know if jarl Ballin is Enjoying some nice Ebony wood late at night, but I’m definitely convinced about a lot of other points
I’ve developed a strange soft spot for Nazeem. Like, it’s hard for me to put into proper words, but he somehow strikes the proper balance of sliminess and pomposity that he comes across as endearing to me.
The wife saying he's always stuffing himself in the jarl's backside was literally the only thing I knew about him for a long time, so I'm really not sure why this is a surprise to anyone else.
Anyway, I appreciate that, despite this being a channel that often makes somewhat crass jokes, you didnt actually say anything homophobic, and you understood why the wife hates men instead of just saying "stupid femin*zi"
Another potentially important puzzle piece: The cut parts from Mephala's Daedric quest, which was supposed to center around Jarl Balgruuf's complicated family situation and end with his assassination at the hands of his children. It's possible that the devs initially planned to include some baby momma drama and address Jarl Ballin's sexual escapades (or lack thereof), shedding some light on what happened to his wife or wives if he had ever been married. The idea of Balgruuf potentially being gay and in the closet makes a lot of sense from an out of universe perspective, because as we know, Bethesda ultimately decided to be as non-confrontational as possible when it comes to sexual orientation, with all marriagable NPCs being effectively bisexual and no one making a big deal out of it if the DB chooses to be in a same gender marriage, but no other mention of same gender romance anywhere except for those two dead guys in the Dragonborn DLC. This essentially means that Skyrim culture comes across as both extremely heteronormative AND completely sexually liberated at the same time, which is something that seems to happen a lot in fantasy games that kinda-sorta want to address or include all of that "historical" racism, sexism and homophobia, but not actually have it impact the player character in any significant way. Maybe somewhere along the line, the devs realized that they couldn't have their cake and eat it too in this instance and decided to scrap that plot in order to offend neither the homophobes nor the LGBTQ+ people in their audience with the inclusion of an explicitly gay-centric plot.
Lets be real here. In 2011 very few people wouldve cared about gay characters. The reason its an issue now is because its literally in everything and rammed down our throats and if you say you dont like deepthroating lgbtq nonsense your suddenly a homophobe or whatever else. However the way skyrim does it is perfect its not even in your face at all. This makes me worry for tes6. Where you will see obvious gay/lesbian couples and they will flaunt it and it will be all over the place and probly have some idiotic political message
In any case, it convinced me on several points and it will certainly be in my fanfiction. And... I think it would be very, very, interesting to include in Mephala's quest. 🤫

(Sorry i dont meand Babette from the Dark Bortherhood but Braith from Whiterun.)

So a Twitter activist?
I killed him just to be safe. Soul trapped him and threw it into the frozen ocean past Septimus.

@@Iluvlollipopsmakes sense carry on
The funniest thing about Nazeem is that if you kill him during one of the quests (either Dawnguard or DB, I can't remember) that require a high profile victim and planting notes on the body, you will fail the high profile part of the quest. So apparently, he's just talking out his bum.
Dawnguard, Volkihar Radiant quest 👍
Screw the quest. I like sending Nazeem to the cloud district, usually by air travel, with the console.😂
Yeah i did it for the vampires dressed as a dawnguard a couple hours ago

How? It's all he ever says to me!
I'm surprised I haven't heard more from him in my most recent playthrough given that I'm acting as a Whiterun guard and have spent entire days patrolling the roads in and around the town.
I think he is scared of us guys.
@@Andrei_Antonovhe’s learning
Nazeem certainly has his head in the cloud district
and his "head"' in the jarl's backside
I had the same thought that he hired an elemantal wizard to experiment on the crops, parhaps if he had a more secure revenue source and there was no war then he perhaps could become a forword thinking tycoon in the agricultural industry. Curently he's set up to fail, having spent his fortune on an ecentric expiriment that ether won't see results, no one takes siriusly, or needs way more time and resurces

The whole "combat elemental mage as a farmer" thing is very easy to explain once you realize that the guy just lied on the resume he gave Nazeem and our favorite egotist was too busy getting off to the sound of his own voice to realize he'd been duped.
The farm is named Chillfurrow Farm.
Elemental mages are adept in elemental magic.
In the farm there is wheat.
What if they made some very special ale
@@HappyBeezerStudios Or alternatively, use magicka to help the crops grow faster albeit in a less awful way than Rorikstead seems to. Heck, might even be that the whole thing's a front and that the farm is more of a lookout post, which also provides another explanation for how Nazeem might be "advising" the Jarl (sorta like an inverted Razum-dar; annoying on purpose instead of charming on purpose to distract from his job).
I thought he used cold spells to keep the vegetables "refrigerated".

He could just be telling her that he's going to talk to the jarl when in fact he's just harassing the people of whiterun

Fascinating video, several observations:
3. I choose to accept all these theories as fact, even the ones lacking in evidence, just out of how hilarious that would be 😂
4. Skyrim investigation idea: who in Oblivion in Elisif the Fair? Who is she to marry a high king and then be an acceptable candidate for jarl of Solitude and high queen?

@@notsae66 probably the father of one of the jarls "children"

It may be looked down on because of expectations for rulers to have heirs, but otherwise I agree.

Good man.
8:52 The face nazeem makes after being punched and turning black never ceases to get a laugh out of me
Was looking for a comment about it, equally terrifying and hilarious
Nazeem did the black face
@@imnotaracistokay i don't think the black community wants him
We know that frost magic and potions can be used to preserve crops; What if Wilmuth was employed by Nazeem to keep his crops fresh but somehow, Wilmuth gained control of the farm as the default boss in everything but paperwork?
Though that begs the question, what could Wilmuth possibly know to have that sort of leverage over Nazeem to keep him out of his own farm?… hmmm…
!!!!!!
“I'd rather be handicapped than a communist.”
-Bilbo Baggins
I actually think, that Wilmuth might be planned to be a bodyguard for Nazeem or something similar before Wintersand Manor was scraped.
The fish stretching itself to witness the punch is the best thing ever 🤣🤣🤣
Don't forget, Balgruff periodically sneaks down to the Bannered Mare. The same Bannered Mare where Nazeem spends a good portion of his day. I think it's likely he's meeting Nazeem there, while Alam gets her needs met by her coworker- and maybe even coworkers (wink wink to the fanfic writers).
Don't give them ideas please brother
This was really cool! Rather than just re-releasing graphics, it makes me wish that they could do an overhaul of the game, adding features that were cut and expanding the world and the characters inside it! This got me genuinely intrigued, and I would LOVE to see stuff like this explored!
I’ve always wished we got Skyrim Extended Edition instead of Special Edition.
I seriously was not expecting Nazeem to say what he did when he saw your male character naked. That made me crack up a lot lmao
I mean his wife did say to check the jarls backside
It's still really weird Nazeem doesn't live on his farm though.
@@dasik84 Maybe, being a former rich guy, he has the mindset of "As long as the farm is still being worked when I check, i don't care"
Chill fire. Cold and Flame. His farmhand being an elemental Mage actually kind of makes sense. Not from a lore sense, just from a poetic sense.
I've gotten that long salmon glitch before and I laughed my ass off, but this is at least 200% funnier.

I actually used a Nazeem follower mod along with a very modded game and role played as a thane of skyrim as well as Nazeems bodyguard. We would just run around while I slayed dragons and he'd insult me the entire time
you should use the mod to sacrifice him to boethiah
Nazeem heckling his landlord is an extremely absurd W
I never thought I'd see a one hour video on such a non-character. Either the Elder Scrolls is just that deep, or Camel has quite thoroughly lost his marbles
*A young Mexican girl pops up*

Por qué no los dos
I mean... he did 4 hours on one assassination mission...
Oh well...
Nazeem owns the farm, he could live there.
@@dasik84 Considering his high and mighty attitude, I think living on a dirty old farm would be beneath him.
It makes more sense for him to have a home in town. He seems to be just the farm's landlord after all and clearly has nothing to do with the day-to-day operations.
Hey look... common sense... how rare
"Can't a man have a bit of butt piracy?" - totally canonical line from Nazeem now

At last Heimskr was giant balls... talking about Talos in a city where the Thalmor could get him very easy.
@Chameleon The Thalmor are the Nazi of the Elder Scrolls universe. As one of their leaders, Elenwen is in my top five "always kill" list.
@@darnunt Wait is it possible to even kill Elenwen? I’d assume she have essential status.

Daedric prince of bullshit
Or just a REALLY shitty person
My first worry was “No, I can’t have Nazeem as my only Gay icon in Skyrim.”
Then the Balgruf part came up and I was quickly relieved.
The most important question we have to ask ourselves in this particular case......
Do you get to the cloud district very often?

Let's go! So much fun to catch some of the making of this over on Twitch. Thanks for another incredible video!
Well, this is probably the best Nazeem deep dive I've heard. Good job, Camel!
Not as good as the one Balgruff gets
Nazeem followed me into my breezehome and i immediately took the opportunity to take him out right as he was walking out
As soon as you mentioned the jarl I thought of “check the jarls backside” and waited for it lol
12 years later and there are still new theories popping out
This was amazing to watch, both in it's final form and from the footage on stream over on Twitch.
(Also, this theory that I have presented could be further explored if you wish to, it's an idea that is rarely mentioned in the community.)
this has always been my theory
I've heard this theory before, an Epic Nate video, I think. I also find it more plausible.
@@lisamarie06 yeah, though Camelworks can probably go more in depth on it. As proven with his video on Narfi and Reyda.
"Looking for my husband Nazeem? Check the Jarls backside, that's usually where he stuffs himself these days."
So we know who the top is at least
nazeem hired a mage to make his vegetables more fresher, with elemental magic, like in riften the dark elf that uses frost teeth to preserve her meat for longer
Nazeem is the guy I console command out of existence every new play-through after the third time he talks to me as I enter my home.
1 hour of investigation just to come up with "Nazeem bums the jarl", brilliant

Ending: So Nazeem fks the Jarl
Boy this went into some directions I didn't expect. Makes a lot of sense though. Not sure about the Jarl, given that Nazeem says his lines about the Jarl whether it's Balgruuf or Vignar Grey-Mane.

Nothing better than opening a weekend with a new detective video! Great work Camel. I love these.
I hope that Skyrim 2 has less cut content. As in they actually make more of the stuff that they originally planned to make.
“If you need any practice with the bow, just grab me. Softly.”
For your next detective episode you should do who lived in castle Volkihar! I think that would be a very cool one for you to do!
@@johnblackrose I mean gay marriage wasn't legal until what, 2013? People definitely would've cared, and still do.
Whiterun really does have Walls Maria, Rose, and Sina. And then there's several giant camps nearby. Coincidence? I think not
Aot coming out in 2010 and Skyrim in 2011 would also pretty much make sense timewise
The manga came out 2009 the anime 2013 and then season 2 came out 2017 I remembered that long ass wait
