    That exhaust catcher looks a lot better, well done. I couldn't agree with you more about preserving the car you have instead of not bothering and buying new. Apart from environmental and economic costs what about the human effort involved. Even in this age of robots there are still lots of people who have spent a large part of their lives producing, distributing and selling cars so by preserving your car you have added value to their contribution and their lives.

      Thanks for interesting comments and point of view. It's only by sharing such things that we can see all sides. I get that people need jobs to survive and job creation can help with that, but constantly relying on production of new goods that are made increasingly with obsolescence in design rather than robust reliability and longevity can only fuel economies of production that detrimentally effect the environment. Direct resource recycling overall isn't yet, to date economically viable in many areas when looking at whole life cycles of products. What we need to do is change how we view products we buy in life rather than believing we have a constant need for new things to live. All I'm saying is that we should first question if we actually need something first rather than feeding our hunger for the new :-)

    I was thinking about getting a newer car. But my 2007 fabia. is still doing a great job.Just looks a bit ruff (not to bad). Runs great everything works. i am keep her. still think your videos are great.

      I agree, a newer car may have added technology to cause trouble, go wrong and cost you money, such as DPF, DSG gearboxes and even LED light units that will cost a packet if just one light fails :-)

    I've got a 2007 Fabia VRS tdi Special Edition with just 60k miles on the clock. Quite rare even now, but will definitley be the case in a few more years. I love the car and can't see me selling it. This type of maintenance is a great help with looking after it.

    Loving the attention given to such a simple part. But it makes perfect sense, the part is easy to access and remove, and gradually all this work will add up.
    I often take a day or weekend servicing my cars, as while doing a simple oil change, I go rustbusting underneath while the car is in the air.

      There are lots of vids on RUclips about this technique which looks really good. I've never done it or had it done and am in the same boat as you. I would love to have a go sometime. I know you can get the transfers paper to use in an inkjet printer, but it seems to be about the technique and skill by the looks of it.

    I always thought (was told in ads) thast Hammerite should be applied directly on rust. However, as I have seen in your body repair videos, you apply it on the primer. Is that the right/better way to do contrary to how it is advertised?

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  11 месяцев назад

      There are two schools of thought on this one. Hammerite offer there own red oxide primer along with there 'special metals primer' along with, as you say 'direct to metal paint'. I and others think an anti-rust treatment and then oxide primer before zinc enamel is one of the best methods of protection :-)
