    Hi. This is your friend from the Midwest of the United States again. I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. Anyway, I commented under your mealybug video a few days ago, so please take note. Also, I tried this - your organic method of making hibiscus grow and flower - on several of my varieties of bush hibiscus - and my trees - my Hawaiian Punch variety of bushes - and one bush very like the one plant you are showing here. (note: mustard cake is not easily found in the U.S. and I've also read in many places that it encourages flies and gnats, so I didn't try real real hard to find it and I left it out of the recipe altogether.). Anyway, your formula is amazing in that it made all my plants grow taller and bushier - almost overnight - and encouraged lots of new, lime green colored growth. However, the flowering / blooming is still not happening much at all - not at the level that the growth of the general plant is - especially on all my Hawaiian Punch variety of plants. Any ideas about why this is so? Is it the lack of the mustard cake? (Addendum, a few days later: Some of them are starting to bloom! Good organic fertilizer - Great advice!)

      @SCP, Extremely sorry for late reply....and, I actually saw your previous comment and would get back to that ASAP. Actually, I wasn't uploading video for last many days (around 20) and so there were lots of questions to answer. Anyway, I am really very glad that you found my Channel, even you are not from India (I know my English is not perfect and many people don't even want to listen what I say). So, thank you once again....
      I know, Mustard cake is not available in USA. Basically, it contains lots of Proteins and we can substitute it with either Fish Emulsion Fertilizer or Blood Meal. Interestingly, I know that these two fertilizers are quite popular in USA, but not in my country :-) So, instead of Mustard cake fertilizer, you can use any of them :-)
      Anyway, I am really glad to know your plants are growing very well, great job INDEED! And, no worry, they are going to bloom very soon. If a plant is growing well and it's getting sufficient sunlight, it's going to bloom. Good luck and please let me know if you have any questions, thank you once again :-)

      @@GardeningUpbeat - hi! Some of the hibiscus are blooming now so bully for you - your methods really do work! (btw, my family is getting sick of me refrigerating and saving banana peels for future use!). Btw - yes, I found you here in the U.S. - through youtube - but - by the way - I am Indian by origin (originally from West Bengal). My name is Sujata and my parents immigrated to the U.S. in 1967, when I was just about your daughter's age, and I have been living here ever since. I find your English simply charming - and your gardening know-how, which I know in India is ten times harder, just so so helpful. Post more videos, please, that's all I would ask. More specifically, I would love to see more on indoor Croton care - the colorful crotons - Petra etc. I am having trouble with mine. Leaves fall at random as if they are objecting to my care - and in general - they are just so fussy! Also - your tips on rose bushes - to keep away beetles etc. I use a commercial neem oil spray on my ten bushes outdoors but there are still signs of beetles and aphids...

      Hi. I like the idea of using this fertilizer. Where can I find the mustard cake powder? I googled it, but it doesn’t seem available to me in Houston, Texas. Do you have any ideas of where I can find it or what to substitute it with?

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  3 года назад

      @Maggie Burgos, I am sorry to know the issue and once again, sorry for the late reply. I can understand and you can use either Blood Meal or Fish Emulsion fertilizer as a replacement to Mustard cake powder. Mustard cake powder is widely used here as an organic fertilizer and basically it contains Proteins and other micro nutrients. Thank you :-)

    Actually from this video only I subscribed your channel... I’m having the same variety but in single plant both single and double orange hibiscus... I don’t know how... it was actually a surprise...

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад +2

      @ramya jegannathan, glad to know that and I hope you are okay with my other videos with voice over (as there was no voice in this video :-)) 2 different colors or 2 different variety of blooms on a single plant is possible and there are 2 chances - 1. We can do that via grafting and this way, we can have blooms in multiple colors on a single plant. Plus, we can also have single and multiple petaled blooms on a single plant.
      2. While growing them from cuttings, the workers in Nursery do mistakes sometimes :-) And, they keep 2 stems in same container where both are from not the same mother plant. If this is the case, you would be able to tell it simply looking at the base of the plant. If you see 2 main stems, then this is the reason why you are getting 2 different blooms on a single plant. Or else, it was done by grafting.
      I also have one hibiscus where I get 2 different colors - Orange and Yellow (double petaled). Looks great anyway and I would show it someday :-)

    HI- My indoor Hibiscus seems to be happy but if I were to touch the flower(s) if I get any, they would drop immediately. I brought it home with one big flower and lots of buds. The big flower, and several buds dropped off when I repotted it in a self watering pot. Then, the next big bud was going to open, and I added water to the bottom of the pots, and that dropped from the motion of moving the pot a little. Now, I have one almost ready and I know that if I touch the plant that too will drop. I thought they love water while blooming? The wick system works well for African violets, and Orange tree and Lemon tree cuttings. There aren't any bugs that I can see. The light seems sufficient in my corner East/South window. But the plant is too delicate to touch! I see you touch your plant in this video and it doesnt fall apart. How can I toughen up this one? Also, a couple of weeks ago, I did add some dried, crushed banana peel which is supposed to be loaded with potassium. Thank you for any insight.

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад

      @Neil Silverman, Actually your plant is under stress and so buds are falling whenever you touch them. Stress is - Environment stress. Hibiscus is super sensitive and it often loses buds in a new environment. Anyway, nothing to be worry about, your plant would adjust in it's new environment soon. But still, if possible, please keep it outdoor and try to give it same environment like as it was before. And, you are right about watering. Hibiscus a water loving plants and during blooming, we shouldn't let the soil dry out completely. Or else, buds fall off.

      @cecilia soans, In my place, 4 hours of direct sunlight is enough to get a healthy Hibiscus plant. But from your name, I believe you are not from India and if you are from much cooler place, then you would need to provide it more than 4 hours of direct Sunlight (to get good result). In my place average summer temp is around 93°F and my plants do well even if I provide them afternoon sunlight (same like you). Just informing you about my place so that you can correlate it. • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching from USA :-) To be on safe side, please use 2-3 tablespoons of fertilizer with 1 gallon of water. Though, I use almost dose of Fish Amino acid on my plants and I use 10ml in 1 liter water. This would transform (approximately) = 3 tablespoons in 1 gallon of water. I believe, you would prefer tablespoon and gallon and so I converted the right amount for you! Hope that helps, Good luck :-)

      @J.Raja Paul Perinbam, Yes and No...Yes because Hibiscus plants are not going to do well if temp goes above 40 :-( No because it's common to have during this time of the year. • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад +1

      @Mounika Maganti, really sorry for the delay, was busy on growing more plants and so was away from online. The fertilizers whatever I use on my hibiscus are all organic and so far I haven't found any issue. You can definitely use the same and plz don't worry, I would upload one video very soon where you would be able to see the current health of the same plants. I's still blooming and growing very well. Also, I have shown the collection of few of my hibiscus plants at the end of the video (just mentioning it in case you missed it ):-)
      Since you are not getting blooms on your plant, definitely there is something wrong. Here are some suggestions - 1. Plz avoid using Epsom Salt unless you don't see any magnesium deficiency. 2. For mustard cake, plz don't use too often, once a month or in 40 days would be fine (if you are using either in powder form). 3. No more than 25-30 grams Neem cake powder at once. Plz also note that, there are some varieties of hibiscus that take time to bloom and some others bloom only in the specific time in the year. So, it's really important to select the right variety at the time of buying. You may be doing everything perfectly but if the variety itself is dependent on some perimeters, it's not going to bloom. I have hibiscus plants that bloom throughout the whole year and some others bloom only in the late summer (the local one). So, plz make sure that you are growing the right variety one.
      Finally, Sunlight is extremely important and I am adding this on last because I believe you are already aware of that. Sorry for the long reply but without knowing too much details, it's hard to provide solutions in one line. Thank you and plz let me know if anyway I can help you and I would do my best :-)

    3- Bone meal 6-8-0

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  2 года назад

      @lili M, Really sorry for the late reply...please do the below -
      1. Fish emulsion fertilizer 5-1-1 = 2-3 tablespoons of in 1 gallon of water
      2- Maxicrop soluble seaweed powder 0-0-17 = 10 grams [2 teaspoons = 0.67 tablespoon]
      3- Bone meal 6-8-0 - 5 grams
      You can apply the same once in 7-10 days and you should get good result. Please also note that, this does is for one 8-10 inch wider and deeper pot. If you are using bigger pot, please increase the dose accordingly.
      All those components are Organic. So, even if we apply higher dose, it's not going to make a bit issue. But while fertilizing any plants, it's always better to start with low. I hope that helps and I wish, I could've replied you earlier. Wish you all the best :-)

      Thank you very much for your feedback, really appreciated! Hmm..if you are a vegetarian person, I am sorry to say that, there are very less options and I am saying the true thing. I don't want to say that, use Onion Peels or other Peels and those are going to do the same. But..if you are okay with applying Chemical fertilizers, then you can apply Single Super Phosphate. I am not writing the dose as it would depend on brands.
      Other organic alternatives - Horn meal (sadly, it's similar to Bone meal) + Rock Phosphate (but it take times). Having said that, if you like, you can try Rock Phosphate once. I have tried on many plants and got good results (many are available on Amaon). I hope, I have answered your query! If not, please let me know, thank you!

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  5 лет назад

      Hi @Basudev Saha, thank you for your question. Phosphorus is needed to produce the buds and blooms and all plants need it, including Hibiscus. But the main difference is that, Hibiscus needs more amount of Potassium than Phosphorus n it doesn't mean that Hibiscus doesn't need any Phosphorus at all. If you want to apply any water soluble fertilizer, then this would be the best - Nitrogen (17) - Phosphorus (5) - Potassium (24). See, Hibiscus still needs P, but very littile comparing to K and this is according to hiddenvalleyhibiscus. Here is a good article you can read for more info - www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com/care/feeding.htm
      Hope that clarify your doubts and if you have any questions, plz let me know and I would try my best to help you. Thanks!
