I’ve also just set up a dedicated recording studio in my home. I’m a classical pianist who has done years of gigging; playing a lot of the American songbook standards With a small handful of other players. I’m so used to playing and singing at the same time that I gave up on trying to separate them. But after this video and several months of playing a new church job requiring a click in my ear (first time ever for me!), I’m probably going to put some good effort into a second go of it. This video gives me clarity of the process and the confidence to try it again. Much appreciated!
I love this guy... he talks sense and his fundementals / basics are absolutely on point. Loved his sayings like "rough as guts" brilliant !!!!!! #legend
Thanks for sharing this David. I’ve just set up my own studio and am learning about the process. What’s described here is exactly the process I’ve used in a professional studio and am now how I’m approaching things in my own. I also record all my gigs and listen back to assess how I’m going. It’s amazing how much you learn. Cheers mate ❤️🎶🎸
@@davidshanhun I didn't realise until the end that Manuka Studio's is in NZ - of course it is with a name like that ! I lived in Paihia for 20 years, and regularly drove past Silverdale heading in and out of Auckland for work. Gee, wish I had seen this earlier as I would have called in for a coffee ! Currently in OZ though till Easter.
Great video David! Mike is brilliant! I've had the pleasure of recording many tracks at his studio and he's fantastic to work with in every way. Keep up the good work both of you!
@@davidshanhun Hi David, thanks for asking. Yes, I've recently converted an old building in my backyard in Blockhouse Bay into a music venue, "WorkShop 26". I'm spending some of this valuable lockdown time in learning how to use the new Soundcraft Signature 22 multi-track sound desk that I've bought to use in there. It'll be great to be able to record events and rehearsals with this. I'll still want Mike McCarthy's assistance for professional, broadcast quality recordings of my songs though!
Side panning, avoid headphone bleeding - lots of valuable advice gently presented. Well done. Thanks a lot!
happy recording!
