Yeah the forethought that went into this is top notch - I love the overdubs describing the technical aspects, and then it goes back to him speaking in the room. Brilliant.
These videos are just outstanding. The audio (of course) is great and the production of the videos is stellar. Filmed in one shot? Wow, I have a hard time not messing up when I make videos lol. Despite doing a lot of recording myself, I always learn something from this series. Amazing content. Cheers
The only video on RUclips on this subject that explains the importance of turning the mic upside down to get the correct balance between voice and guitar.
Sounds great. This method depends on a really good sounding room though. I record in a not so great space at home so I close mic the guitar and the vocal with a ribbon and condensor respectively using figure 8 pattern nulls. Works a treat.
I almost didn't watch this through because I thought I was going to need to buy a crash test dummy head stereo microphone, but I'm glad at 3:45 things got to a place where I could try it with equipment I had :) edit: this is a fantastically produced video and I can't wait to explore more of your content! Getting source right is SO crucial I have learned. Can't mix well without tracking well.
Just ideal. Been working on a song, realized I get a very poor performance when recording both instruments separately... But this way, I can actually change from tracking to performing which is much more organic Thank you!!!
All your videos are simply outstanding. Thank you very much. Respect!! Joachim, you rock mate. If you had a Spotify channel I'd follow you, but can't find anything except your RUclips.
I never subscribe after just 1 video… but this was an incredible tutorial, possibly the best one I’ve ever seen on RUclips! It was soooo good! I’m going to enjoy looking through all your work in the next weeks 😇 subscribed!
This is an amazingly helpful video. Really appreciate the attention to detail in production too. We making living room sessions and love the one mic vibe
Your videos and the sound on them is just awesome. It makes learning fun.. I’m gonna try this today for a RUclips video. I have a U 87 so I’ll use that. Thanks again. ✌🏼🙂
This series is absolutely genius. Host is brilliant, audio flawless, atmosphere. I've rarely watched a video making me so warm inside. Just outstanding work. Thanks guys (herzlichen dank)!
Just this one video changed my life! I ran it through Garageband > Legacy > Logic > Spaces > Male Vocal Hall. All that means is, Garageband with Legacy/Logic sounds. Don't ask me how I got it that way. I do not remember. But "Spaces" is the quick way to get different room or venue sounds. Like 'Church' or 'Live Venue', etc. . .
The sound ist quit good but this not (only) from the Mic so can you please tell us what’s the chain used there, preamps, audio interface? btw great studio👍
Hi there! We have used a "state of the art" preamp with a very neutral sound from a very reputable manufacturer. And to make it comparable, we used the same one for all the mics of course. We did not use any EQ or compression.
Loved this video - absolutely brilliant information and it blows my mind this was all done in one take. By the way, anyone know the song Joachim is playing?
Thank you! Please stay tuned. More tutorials will follow soon. In the mean time, feel free to visit our homestudio website www.neumann.com/homestudio/en/

Fantastic! The kind of video you don’t only watch because of the informations you get but more the nice and smooth way of the moderator and musician. Is that beautiful tune an original by Joachim Rust?
Can we just take a second and appreciate the incredible timing of this one-take video. To all involved, my hats off to you. Wow.
Agree
This is 5th one I've watched.
Leave it to Neumann to blow everyone out of the water.. again.
@Davian Arian I know, nobody cares.
indeed
Yeah the forethought that went into this is top notch - I love the overdubs describing the technical aspects, and then it goes back to him speaking in the room. Brilliant.
You just set the bar so high for every single educational video I will ever see from here on.
Bro I didn't remember commenting this then I realized it wasn't me lol
TLM 103 is my mic of choice I use it on all my songs! perfect!!! 👍

Your timing is again amazing, I’m in this very situation at college. Thanks

Excellent video! One mic, one performance, no phase issues and lots of emotion. Killer! Really good performer, too.
Came here for the tutorial and stuck with the amazing singer performance! And yes, all the one-shot video is just too perfect 👍🏻
I almost didn't watch this through because I thought I was going to need to buy a crash test dummy head stereo microphone, but I'm glad at 3:45 things got to a place where I could try it with equipment I had :)

I love Joachim's voice and his guitar playing.
Ummmmm this is a PHENOMENAL video. The timing, the edit, the shot composition, and the information. Bravo.

Thank you!!!
Sounds great, I will definitely try to record myself today with this approach :)
Awesome and smooth transitions between artist performance and explanations. Very well approached
This is so helpful! I have a Rode NT1-A at home, and I just love this
All your videos are simply outstanding. Thank you very much. Respect!! Joachim, you rock mate. If you had a Spotify channel I'd follow you, but can't find anything except your RUclips.
The best part. This is one take and the guy teaching is most probably not monitoring still he knows it has been nailed. sheer experience
I like doing this exact same thing with a sm57 microphone. Thanks for the great lesson! I just need to remember 2 feet, ear level. This helped me.
This video is the best i’ve ever seen in my life and it perfectly answers the questions I had, from the bottom of my heart: thank you! 🥰
Can we applaud Joachim Rust, he is a wonderful guitarist and singer!

This was a really involved ad for a microphone
So are we hearing a mono feed or did you move the signal to stereo? Sounds wonderful BTW.....
Great tips, thank you!!

Where can I get a copy of the song he is performing?! I love it!
Hi Willy, Achim hasn't published his songs yet. We will push him to do so 😉 !
@@GeorgNeumannGmbH I'm honestly so sad about that:( He really has ALOT of talent, i'm obsessed wiith this song! Amazing job everyone.
I want to know the model/ product of mic-stand and shock absorbing accessory that you are using at 5:45 of this video
Amazing video
Great vid! I would love to know more detail about the full gain staging, signal path and any processing 😁
Great vid! Do you have content on how you would edit & mix on logic with this recording set up? Thanks
Hi Andy, we don't have a mixing tutorial online but you'll find some good user generated ones for sure!

Hi Andrew, the song is called "Please", which, however, has not been published yet.
That's a shame. I'd buy it today
