that's a great quote at around 25:00, "It's always a compromise, low poly, you can't get every line so find the one that's the most important" I truly believe that learning low poly is a huge advantage for beginners because they can get used to the idea of getting a base shape first before going into detail
Gotta learn low poly before you jump to detail. Sure anyone can buy the cgmasters Corvette tutorial series, but it doesn't seem to teach the fundamentals. Just leads to people constantly begging for tutorials
^^^ That in my opinion is the single biggest problem with the way Blender is taught to total beginners. Modifiers like the subsurf are amazing tools for more experienced modelers, but most Blender tutorials aimed at newbies teach them to become over-reliant on the modifiers and they become a crutch to work around a lack of basic topology skills (as evidenced by the large number of help threads around the internet of people asking why the subsurf modifier "isn't working" on their mesh consisting entirely of N-gons and poorly-spaced edges).
Huh, so concentrated and effective! Sometimes learning must go in quick way to avoid hungups and frustrations. Errors in the beginning of learning is not that important. Just polish workflow algorithmically and errors will decrease gradually. We all must seek personal quickest ways to optimise workflows. If you seek u will find! And I find too. Thanks for some impressions u made. This is right way to do everything. U've got subscriber.
The new shortcut to merge 2 verts is “M”. Thanks for the longer, more in-depth content. I literally just requested it like 3 days ago. You may have picked up a new Patron.
@Rogue Nero That's because you're using an old version of Blender. I'm referring to the newest version. Not sure what you mean by, "what you've tested". A shortcut is a shortcut, no need for testing.
(Blueprint Tip) I'm really new to this modelling - but with the few symmetrical blueprints I have used - I first bring it in to something like MS Paint and find the dead centre (by pixel coordinates) and draw a (1px) vertical line down the centre of the blueprint (and a small horizontal 1px line to make a cross-hair) - I find this makes lining it all (front / back etc) up very easy in blender (zoomed waaaay in to line up perfectly).
Pro-Tip: listen to Lo-Fi music while watching this, than this video only feels like 15 mins! :D Awesome Video my man, learned sooo much and took so much with me!
You have excellent technique and great communication skills, I always learn so much from your videos. Thanks for this one; I'm going to do my son's S2000 when I get home today! :)
I used to do this for Flight Simulator aircraft, except that I didn't use Blender and the models were definitely not low poly by the time FS9 came out. I couldn't possibly give you any useful tips on Blender techniques, but I can tell you that being able to tell what 3D shape is represented in the "3 view" image is an insight that takes time to master. It's not that the line drawings aren't accurate (well ... that depends on where you got the drawing), it's that line drawings don't always indicate compound curves too well. Having a few photos of the subject (as you did with the spoiler) can sometimes help ... sometimes! This was entertaining, as usual, but in this case I'll stick with my tried-n-true methods I've been using for 15 years and then import the model to Blender as an OBJ. P.S. The way you built the brake light is how I build entire aircraft, one section at a time.
i liked it so much. few tips: 1- don't select edges one by one, select 1st then ctrl the last edge 2-you can use (local view) for small objects in scene for easier navigation
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial. I love this car and being able to make in low poly is really useful for my own projects. Learning a lot from your videos, cheers!
Thank you! I appreciated this step-by-step tutorial on how to model a low poly car. Followed your instruction exactly throughout the video and modeled a low poly car. I've modeled cars in the past, but definitely NOT as good as this one. I hope to see more low poly car tutorials on your channel! Earned yourself a new subscriber as well.
I learn so much techniques here, I am still a newbie, but this is perfect and those 10 minutes always remind me of MATRIX - I know Kung Fu - No you don't!!! - No I don't! Thank you for your time and patience!
Overlaying blueprints, ingenious! I feel like a bit of an idiot for working off of reference images alone, until now... Lol. I think I might just scrap my model and redo it this way. Thanks for the helpful tutorial!
ctrl RMB also extrudes and places the element (vert, edge, face) at your cursor. select two verts and press [F] to fill the edge. to fill a face, you only need to select 2 edges and press [F] you can also press [alt RMB] to select the edge loop that goes around the holes for the taillights (using circle instead of cylinder): change snapping to face, and set to project individual elements. then in the viewport, g, limit to y-axis, and ctrl to snap. for the windows: select the windows, the one with the solidify modifier last, and [ctrl L] to bring up the link menu.
Awesome! Thank you for making these! Would be very interested in the whole character entering/exiting car process if you decide to stream / make a tutorial of that part. Thanks again!
if you want to keep your quad topology and also want to create a triangluar shape, try pulling one vert onto an edge. this way you get an triangular shaped quad.
A little tip: for the tail lights i loop selected the outer edges and searched for "circle". That way you automatically align the vertices into a circle. EDIT: I should watch videos until the end before commenting. You used circle for the steering wheel ;)
Another great tutorial. Nice to have another one at a slower pace as much as I do like seeing your 10 minute challenges. Couple Q's:- You mention about making things into quads, however in computer graphics things are rendered in triangles so would it not be better to model in tri's rather than quads or does Blender handle this under the covers? When you did the tail lights you modeled them as separate objects rather than adding extra geometry to the main car body. Is there any advantages to doing this as surely at the end of the day you still have a similar amount of verts to render. Love to see more of these longer slower paced tutorials. Are you planning on modeling some other cars? Keep up the great work!
40:17 when you saving you can press on "plus" button near "save" it will increase the number automatically... All you need that save the file in the form "something_00" then "plus" will work.
16:27 Here's the Auto-mirror part, I was looking particulary for this after watching the whole video. If you can't find the Auto-mirror panel, go back to Preferences - Add-ons - search "mirror" and check "Mesh: Auto Mirror".
Love your videos and would really love a video of your background and how you gotten into blender and unity and how long it took you to really understand the basics of them and maybe like things you practiced to get better
Hey! just wanted to tell you if you didn't know you don't have to press Ctrl+E, then click, then Ctrl+S, you can just Ctrl+E and then directly press Ctrl+S and it will have the same function.
Hey impenzhia!!! really really cool work. Just wanted to know which software do you use to crop out the background and put yourself in the bottom left of the screen?
I have no idea how he mirrored the tires so that he can make both the left and right ones at the same time. The video cuts and all the sudden there are 2 cylinders, and when I create a new cylinder only 1 comes up, and adding a mirror modifier does nothing. Can anybkdy help please? Edit: So I figured it out after much trial and error, but still don't really know how it was done because I didn't want to undo it and risk not being able to figure it out again haha. Will have to do a test/practice one to see exactly what I did. This video helped out a ton. I made a Mustang by following along. I discovered pretty late into the modeling that the blueprint I used didn't exactly line up when doing the mirrors, so I basically make them from scratch and very loosely followed a couple real pictures from a book I have. Overall the model turned out great for my first car, and everyone I've shown loved it. Thanks, Imphenzia!
Nice video man , iw been learning a lot from your videos . i get confused sometimes ,what is considered a low poly mode l? some forums i read its up ti 15k verts at some it says under 100k :D
Hello from Russia :) Interesting and informative video. I love your low-poly style. I want to ask, why don't u use materials in Blender? U can change params of materials, for example, roughness (for plastic details), opacity (for windows), lights and etc
I used to transport brand new GTR's, still in their wrappers, from Newcastle to Belfast in my last job . . Still regretting never pushing launch control into the back of the truck 😄😭
I tried to make Chevrolet Camaro 1969 low poly the whole day, but still looking at your car I was disappointed. But nothing, I will try again! Thanks for the inspiration! Speaking of inspiration, I have long wanted to make a game about a submarine, once upon a time, in the year 2006-2009, I played this game on my phone, it was very well developed. Do you have a desire to make a step-by-step tutorial in Unity for those who do not know programming? Just write the code, and we would repeat. ;)
Hey this might be a dumb question - but has blender changed so drastically from 2.8 to 2.9 that it misses either mesh>flatten 49:37 and also mesh->circle 1:01:18 or it a blender addon that brings these features?
Most interesting parts for me. :) 00:00:43 : Placing the reference image. 00:05:45 : How to add a single vertext (if you are not able) 00:31:39 : Car painting from color palette. 00:52:05 : Dethatching parts. 01:05:55 : Openeable door.
Not going to lie I'm trying to learn blender because I want to make a space fighter jet. I'm struggling to take a lot of the things I've learned in other episodes to do exactly what you're demonstrating in this video and this is precisely what I need right now! I was literally thinking to myself man it would be so much easier to do this if I could do it with a orthographic view in panels because I didn't know I could do that inside this application before this video. Thank you sir!
Tip: use ctrl alt q for quad view
Argh, why didn't I know that?? Thanks for the tip :)
@@Imphenzia you're welcome ☺️
Holy cow! One of the best tips I've heard in a while, thanks!
Tip: In 2.79 this asks you to quit Blender
@@edh_ he said ctrl + ALT + q, not ctrl + q
