Great comparison… I’m big fan of g-shocks and have quite few in my collection included two mr-g’s. I’ve just bought GBD-H1000 in white and yellow neon. I think it is the coolest colour version and definitely thanks to its solar powered for me best smart watch ever. I would never buy smart watch which requires constant usb recharging… so impractical!!! Thanks

How is the use of the watch? I heard the interface is a pain if you want to read any messages you need to dig deep into the menu to read it. Additionally, i also checked out garmin instinct. For the same price it does more and even there is a wallet pay which can be done. I couldnt justify gbd h 1000s price when i compaired both. Between garmin and casio gbdh 1000 casio wins in terms of looks and ruggedness. But looses out on practicality this is where garmin wins. Hence i havent purchased this watch, i really want one but.... Its tuff to justify with the price.

The GBD although it has many features and its solar, it’s not a ‘full’ smartwatch, but close. The GSW it’s a full smartwatch with full color display, smartwatch features, specs, and with a full OS that it’s superior to the GBD. I had the GBD and battery life was amazing and features were decent but was not too pleased because it’s not a 100% smartwatch like the previous discontinued ProTrek ones. I just ordered the new GSW so I cannot compare yet, but based on the reviews, it offers a watch only option that will give you up to 30 days of battery life, but most smartwatch functions will be disabled. The regular mode will give you 1.30 days of battery life. Very much on par with the Apple Watch and most Android smart watches. Still misses basic functions such as Tough Solar power, Speaker, NFC, and the price it’s too much. It will probably do great for G Shock collectors.

Why did you not considered buying the Coros Vertix? Battery life 1 month in smartwatch mode.

@@ModernandVintageWatches Great watch but I just love G Shocks and been waiting a long time for a real smartwatch from G Shock. Besides, I already have good smart watches: Apple Watch Series 6 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Regardless, I am reviewing it and would see if it’s worth it or not.

The GDB H1000 hands down is better by the mere fact it's solar....I have both. The GSW H1000 is terrible....the battery life is very disappointing esp. for the price! I also have the GPR B1000- Rangeman which trumps all! I was completely ripped buying the GSW H1000.
The GSW H1000 is complete garbage. I shouldn't have to keep the watch in basic timekeeping mode to conserve battery life.

Scott K, I hope you can return the watch. I have the GBD and the only complaint I have is the Notification menu. They also need to improve the Casio MOVE app as it does so little. I wish it was more like Fitbit's app.

Check out the Garmin Tactix Delsta Solar!!!! great battery life in smart watch mode. 2-3 weeks on a single charge

@@rb2112 I agree, the Rangeman is a tool, a survival like tool, if they will ever release a Rangeman smaller plus other improvements it will be a hit.

My fiancée got me this as a gift. Tested it out and although it does have some great features.... overall it is worthless in my opinion. The battery life is horrible. We returned it today. So disappointed in this watch. It is way overpriced with a serious need for solar power (it would still be overpriced but functionality of it might have made it worth it). Unless you are looking for a cat to day watch I would not get it. I couldn’t imagine doing a 14er with this watch. Someone should be fired at Casio for making this POS.
Side note, I am a gshock fan.

What's the actual weight of the Casio GBD H1000 itself? Google search gives me 101g and 69g, I'm not sure which one to follow. Pls advise thanks!

I'm glad I could help. The watch is way too expensive as well 700 USD for 2 days battery life in smartwatch mode is a joke.
The GBD-H1000 is more complete watch despite having black and white display and no dedicated activities like hike, run etc.
