Let's connect on Twitter @mikeobrienn twitter.com/mikeobrienn I've been using this watch for almost 2 months and haven't charged it once. In fact, I used GPS a lot and the battery went down to 50%. Then I left it on my window sill for a few days and it is back to 100% 🤯
Yeah that solar charging is the key feature on the watch. I really want that to be standard feature for all "smart" watches. Would gladly pay an extra ≈$50 for for it on any watch. The accurate GPS is also a plus, other than that I'm not feeling this watch. Price is reasonable.
If it gets as much sun as you do you should never have to use that charging cable. Been wearing mine for almost a month now and I only used the cable once when I first got it. It’s been full ever since no matter what I do lol
FYI I had an older version of the solar-charging G-Shock and that battery lasted 10 years. Loved that watch! As always, excellent review and thank you.
Hi. I am a huge G-Shock fan,and after 10 months of using it, I am very happy to have one. But,I would like to address some "problems" that future user might find a little repulsive . No 1/100 of second on stopwatch No proper countdown stopwatch 5 days battery life with heart beat sensor on all the time No full hour beep Alarm and notification is very quiet ,too quiet Solar charging it takes about two hours on direct sun to charge one bar batery level Impossible to export just hear rate during sleeping time even event has been recorded in watch GPS lock takes up to 45 seconds(over a minute in wood) For accuracy barometer, altimeter and compas need to be calibrated Vibration is very weak Personally,I love my GBD-H1000. Hope I brought some useful info from my perspective ;)
in my own opinion, since i have this watch last June '20, i have used this watch on a daily basis, and i have only charged my watch 2x only for the past 3 months + well yes, its solar powered!! as long as it is being ligted by the sun, charging will be very very minimal not like other smart watched you charge it after 2- 3 days, but this one; mine 2x only for the past 3 months...that's the best thing of being solar powered. and very functional. it has sensors, barometer, temperature, heart rate, steps count, GPS, and many other features you can use and record your daily activities. this for my opinion is a good watch to have..less charging and water proof and water resistant as well...made by CASIO GSHOCK!!
I've had this watch for 10 days now. I love it and I returned the Instinct Solar to keep this one. My complaints fit two categories; 1. same complaints I have about all G-Shocks and 2. GBD H1000 specific complaints . Standard G-Shock complaints: beeps/alarms/timers are too low/quiet, too few alarms, light turns off with subsequent button presses (if I turn on the light and keep pressing buttons the light should stay on), buttons are mushy, too long of a delay with switching screens/modes. GBD H1000 specific complaints: the band could be a bit more soft silicone for running, the harder silicone slips a bit on the wrist when sweaty (not horribly but I think it could be improved). Connection to bluetooth is difficult to establish and drops (its actually getting better the longer I have it). The mobile app is def V1. It has everything I need but is not as sophisticated as the Garmin app. There is only an interval timer, not a daily use timer. I chose this over other watches I bought and wore. It is a crazy close competitor to the Instinct Solar but I wanted my new running watch to be a daily driver (my previous Garmin I would wear to workout then take off) and I couldn’t see myself wearing the Instinct all day. As a G-Shock lover the choice over the Instinct Solar was pretty easy once I had them both in-hand. *When you read this please know I am not a smartwatch person so none of the smartwatch features were a consideration.
i just got this watch about a month ago, and yes the battery life last longer since its solar, ever since i got this watch i have never tried charging it using the cable, i always use this watch on a daily basis, and never got a low battery usage. this watch is really very dependable, it has a GPS, heart rate, and it syncs to your phone using the G-SHOCK APP, as for me, this is a great watch to have comparing to all the smart watches that you have to charge it on a daily basis and or every 2 days, this is the 1st -smart watch with a solar charging. reliable and god watch to wear on a daily basis. this watch is very durable, on top of it, its water proof you can even swim with it...that no smart watch can be used for swimming- it has a compass, barometer, temperature, and other things in this watch. worth buying it.
@@agostinhofelisberto hi, actually i have not charged my watch since i bought it, i just have to wear it and as long as its lighted by the sunlight, i suppose? since i wear it daily and its being solar powered, not have tried charging it with the charger included, but if i am not using it, i make sure its near our window to have it charged by the sun...its been with me more than a month a already, its really very useful to me specially checking my heart rate and doing exercises outside running, as long as its being shined by the sun...no worries about charging it when i get home.
@@agostinhofelisberto also, when i got the watch i tried charging it under the sun, for a few hours like 1 hour only thats the most of it when i am not using it...but again never charged it yet with the cable...and battery is always in full charge, that's the best part of it...SOLAR POWERED

Great review as usual mate. This might be the first watch I ever buy. I'm not a watch guy, but I am really interested in this watch's uses for working out/exercising. And the fact that it's solar powered and almost indestructible also makes it quite intriguing
I spend many hours watching RUclips. I want to take the time to tell you. This was one of the best reviews I've ever seen very detailed. Took your time broke it down. I subscribe to your channel. Keep up the great work.😊
If you use the HR, it lasts about 5 hours. I just sent mine back because it’s not very good. I think it’s a good first attempt, but I will buy it again in a few years when it is better.
When I first heard about this model, I was very excited... but after a couple months of serious mulling over and research, I settled for Garmin Instinct Solar. Honestly, I think Casio needs to really up their game if they want to compete with watches like Garmin. Like you, I'll keep an eye open for 2nd, maybe 3rd generation.
@@DWtuna I agree. I ended switching back to an iPhone to buy an Apple watch after comparing it to this and the Garmin watches. But I already have a GPR-B1000 Rangeman, though, so maybe my priorities are different than most people. I think for exercise, the Apple watch is the best so far.
Question: Do you have to navigate to the notification screen to find out if there are notifications? I imagine that a true notification is when your watch vibrates to notify you, and when you turn your watch to look, it shows you WHO you got a TEXT. CALL, or EMAIL from. Is this not the case for this watch? I would hate to spend the $400.00 to find out it does not notify me of anything unless I "check" it by pressing buttons to navagate to a notification screen. Checking is the opposite of notification. Thanks for any details on this as I didn't see this aspect covered in the video (other than a display of the notification screen and not how the notifications work).
All notifications pop up very quickly with a beep and vibrate. All notifications = everything on my phone ... house alarm, youtube subscriptions, even alerts from Strava and my Garmin app. However, you cannot click directly to the message. You are notified its there but have to navigate to it.
I got a sort of high end model g shock a few years ago and the battery died after about two or three years. Not sure if I got a dud or what but I heard they should last a long time.
Watched some reviews that the Gshocks data can be quite inaccurate vs some other running watches. In the end,I bought a Garmin Instinct Solar for the better heart rate sensor, software and other features.
Well to be fair, G-Shock wasn't known for making smartwatches. Their trademark was always the unbreakable tank watch, undying battery with 200m water resistance. If you just want sport smartwatch with accurate sensors without any concern for the aforementioned features, you're not wrong into Garmin and Fitbit. By all fairness though, unless you're working as a military personnel or frequently goes off-grid. Durability and battery longevity are not so important for regular users. Except of course you're a purposely abusive person to your watches or very forgetful. 😅 If I want a G-shock though, I would just buy a regular G-shock without all these bells and whistles.
I think this was a good review. The best is that this review, was very informative and it goes deep in the functionalities and so on... I only use G-SHOCK watches. I don't trust anything else. Right NOW I use a Casio G-SHOCK G-7990, which is probably almost 10 years old, and it still goes strong. Thanks for your review. 😁
Thanks for your review. Very straight forward and easy to understand. I am considering getting this watch. I don’t run but do more gym workouts. Is it possible to set a maximum threshold for heart rate so that the watch alerts you if you’ve breached that threshold? Thanks in advance.
Nothing beats CASIO when it's about watches. Reliable, easy to use, indestructible and the continuously innovate and lets not forget the looks. This watch is just stunning, the contrast of the white, neo green and black is just breath taking. I will never buy any of the other smart watches because they just don't look like watches to me. A watch need to be dressed and look different, not just a flat display you don't see the time on unless you do something, the same counts for the strap. If you want to stand out from the crowd, this is the watch to have, unless you want to listen Music from your watch. (which feature personally does not make any sense to me). To play music there are other means ...
Great company, CASIO. They do incorporate great innovations and combine it with rugged designs. I also like the old line-up with small rectangular screens. It would be interesting to see if Casio can make a Garmin Vivoactive HR alternative with these specs you just showed us in this video and even add solar power cells. 1-year battery life, that is a real seller on its own for most.
Fantastic review. The watch needs: blood pressure and blood oxygen. Maybe steps per day. If Casio put these extras on the watch it would be a best seller.
Talking about sport-swatch/smartwatches with long battery life, please check Powerwatch 2 I have got mine when it was crowdfunded (now it costs a lot more) and it really does not need to charge. Takes body temperature and solar power to charge. And it has color display!

Here I am in mid 2021 looking for a rugged smart watch. Should I get this or wait for a new release from G-shock? And what do you think of it now after having it for one year?
Does the charging cable port have a water-tight cover to prevent the watch from short-circuiting out when exposed or completely submerged in water? Does this watch also have a feature built in the GW series wherein it can sync accurately with the Atomic Clock down the the very milisecond just like the NYSE?
Every G Shock watch I have ever owned still works perfectly. I just think G Shock missed the technology wave. The battery life is great and it is a very dependable watch, but why would I pay $399 for a G Shock that has less features than my Galaxy Active 2 4G LTE?
@@honeybatth87 you are not paying for features, you are paying durability over time. I had a Gear s3 frontier and it started to look older than it was. The fact of not having to charge the watch gets me, but there is a watch for everybody.
Watches are meant to just be reliable, if you buy the latest and greatest tech for your wrist it will degrade faster. Even if it doesn’t degrade it will just get outdated quicker since big brands give yearly updates.
What I really wanted to know was how to charge the watch using the included cable. Do I plug the USB cable into one of Apple’s docks which is plugged into the wall? Will that be safe for the watch?
Out in the wild, I just need my GBDH1000, been using more than 2years now never had to charge using cables, as long you dont use gps and hr very hard, mostly step tracking is enough for me..
I have been researching this watch for a while now, just found your review video, thanks for making the video, very helpful in my decision-making process.
I have the all black one, I like it a lot. I just wish Casio would make beefier bands for some of the G shocks, the watch is big and rugged but the band is thin and narrow, just doesnt look right
I have just bought the much cheaper GBH 100, seems to so the basics, step counter, runs etc. I've got a Whoop band for the complex data so looking forward to the long battery life
In the review you say that you have to find another place to start running, because the GPS won't activate (somewhere in the beginning...). Did that happen more than once? I got rid of my TomTom watch because it had that same problem, now i am using a garmin and that has not let me down yet, not even in the mountains of Austria.
There is no traditional timer function but maybe the interval workouts is a work around. Does the watch beep when the end of an interval timer is readhed?
I like it but Garmin instinct solar is much better in my opinion Much smaller ! Better battery (HR sensor 66h for casio and at least 3 weeks for instinct solar ) Oxygen sensor Mult sports Etc
the design, the function, especially the design and color scheme is so sci-fi. at least it is a sci-fi for me (it is a fiction that i can buy this.. haha)
There is a catch on this watch.... this is a 5 sensor g-shock for 350 usd.... very very good. So you have abc sensor information, like in the best g-shock, tough solar... an a plus heart rate monitor. And and... gps track for your daily or occasional runs.. getting you the oportunity to live your phone at home or in the car.. if you are running on unknown area. Or your phone is to big to run with it.... This is a know brain,,, everyone should have one of these...
So i have a question. I bought this watch but im having problems with temp and altimeter is it possible to have auto calibration or only manual because atleast the tempreature doesnt show nothing close to the right temperature
i do A lot of backpacking and the weather changes that’s why it’s awesome that it has temperature and I have an old G-Shock I had over 10 years and it’s solar , and still going , does the solar part really work as great as it says? do u think ?
Could you tell me more about the weather notifications of weather info. ABCs, I personally this time is A and weather is B when it comes to information on you wrist. I backpack also
All good lovely watch i just wished it had both display classic analogue and digital that would have topped it but this only has the digital display shame cant have both but still a nice watch 👍

Wait 2 or 3 years and you will know.
battery and long lasting life...its something very convenient about not having to worry about charging your watch
Cesar Rodolfo Hernández Gómez what you mean by this ?
@@honeybatth87 you are not paying for features, you are paying durability over time. I had a Gear s3 frontier and it started to look older than it was. The fact of not having to charge the watch gets me, but there is a watch for everybody.
Watches are meant to just be reliable, if you buy the latest and greatest tech for your wrist it will degrade faster. Even if it doesn’t degrade it will just get outdated quicker since big brands give yearly updates.
So i just want to know if it's only for runners?? Not for people who lift??
is there step tracker and calorie counter? is it water resistant so that i can swim in it?
Watched a few videos, but this one is definitely the best, informative and condensed beside the appealing visualizations of the watch! Thanks!
Hi
You spoke about a Suunto watch...which Suunto watch do you have?
It's realy resist in the water for 20Atm?? Thanks.
If on GPS & HR.... with the solar charge, Battery actually can last how long? 15hours? 22? 30?
I have been researching this watch for a while now, just found your review video, thanks for making the video, very helpful in my decision-making process.
Would this be a good watch for gps on hikes ,hunting ect ?
I have the all black one, I like it a lot. I just wish Casio would make beefier bands for some of the G shocks, the watch is big and rugged but the band is thin and narrow, just doesnt look right
Does the gps work from your phone gps or actually built into the watch?
Do i have to pay for map updating like the garmin gps?
An excellent review for those who do not know this watch.
I have just bought the much cheaper GBH 100, seems to so the basics, step counter, runs etc.
I've got a Whoop band for the complex data so looking forward to the long battery life
What is better the Japan version or the USA version
Can you get notifications on this watch
If i use it to track how many calories i burn while jumping rope will it count or is only for runnig?
is this the watch to end all watch?
Great review. Thanks. Is it possible to see gps position directly on the screen of watches? Without smartphone.
In the review you say that you have to find another place to start running, because the GPS won't activate (somewhere in the beginning...). Did that happen more than once? I got rid of my TomTom watch because it had that same problem, now i am using a garmin and that has not let me down yet, not even in the mountains of Austria.
can you track this watch by smartphone if you lose it?
Is it waterproof and shock resistant ?
nice review, wonder why the timer app was omitted?
Can you navigate a course using GPS?
5:05 accidental presses on the "touch screen"? This watch doesn't have touchscreen... anyway thx for the review!
Could you able to Scroll mail down?
Means did u able to real full email?
Or just that first one sentence watch shows?
There is no traditional timer function but maybe the interval workouts is a work around. Does the watch beep when the end of an interval timer is readhed?
Does this change time with the time zones automatically while you travel?
was waiting for this! awesome stuff
Always loved G-SHOCK, but the recent stuff is way to expensive for delivering literally no features
Question... can I plug the charging cord into any usb charger other than a computer?
Is it having antimagnetic features and any mud protection at all?
How to know if GPS is on? Is there a way to keep GPS on even without running?
I like it but Garmin instinct solar is much better in my opinion
Much smaller !
Better battery (HR sensor 66h for casio and at least 3 weeks for instinct solar )
Oxygen sensor
Mult sports
Etc
the design, the function, especially the design and color scheme is so sci-fi.
at least it is a sci-fi for me (it is a fiction that i can buy this.. haha)
To me it looks more like it has armor.
9:06 What kind of phone is compatible?... iPhone or Android?
My GPS on the watch is giving me an error every time I try to use it, ay sugestión how to fix it?
is there another model in square? or smalller model?
So i have a question. I bought this watch but im having problems with temp and altimeter is it possible to have auto calibration or only manual because atleast the tempreature doesnt show nothing close to the right temperature
What is the life of the battery ?. I mean how many years will it take for replacing battery ?
so how many years this g shock solared powerd watch live thou??
Would it track if you are cycling?
Can this leave you A trail via GPS to follow back?
i do A lot of backpacking and the weather changes that’s why it’s awesome that it has temperature and I have an old
G-Shock I had over 10 years and it’s solar , and still going , does the solar part really work as great as it says? do u think ?
Could you tell me more about the weather notifications of weather info. ABCs, I personally this time is A and weather is B when it comes to information on you wrist. I backpack also
Garmin instinct or casio??
All good lovely watch i just wished it had both display classic analogue and digital that would have topped it but this only has the digital display shame cant have both but still a nice watch 👍
Does this connect with apps like MapMyRun?
Can the watch show the gps on the it's display?
This watch is a hard trainer's best friend
