Yeah, that kind of sucks. Then fans made up some baseless theories, and then BioWare read them and said, "Yeah, that's easy. Let's just steal these fan theories."
Now BioWare is pretending it was always the plan from day one. It wasn't. And like when the theories were posted, they were easily debunked, and if you examine the details now, what BioWare has come up with doesn't make sense either. It's like BioWare read the theories but not the rebuttals.

I figured this was the story of the Archdemons and their connection to the Evanuris. Corypheous and his dragon were the biggest clue that this was most likely the theory that was true. Solas says in Inquisition that Cory's Dragon is bound to him, it is essentially an extension of him and a very old elven practice. With that and the fact Flemeth was Mythal and transformed into a dragon, I knew their was a connection. My theory was that the archdemons were the avatars of the Evanuris and Solas trapped them in underground prisons. So the Evanuris tricked the Magisters into going into the Black city, bringing back the Blight to Thedas and then creating the darkspawn who would free all the archdemons which would then free the Evanuris from their prison. I figured that was the reason why Solas was furious as to why the Grey Wardens looking for the final two archdemons pissed him off so much.
It's not 100% the same but the connection of the Archdemons and the Evanuris and them luring the Magisters to the Black city so that they could bring the Blight back to Thedas was correct.

Jaws Of Hakkon also hinted the truth of what the Old Gods really were IMHO, as the dragon Hakkon Wintersbreath TALKS when we fight him and so I thought it meant the Old Gods were spirits BOUND to the bodies of High Dragons through ritual. I think originally, the dragons were their own thing, just like Titans are their own thing. Obviously, they were all linked because they are all ancient but not like in this recton. The dragons and Titans were probably these creator or primordial spirits that the ancient elves exploited for their own gain. This would explain why Solas and Mythal both saw the death of the dragons as terrible. Why Mythal wanted the Old God soul and why Solas was angry at the idea of killing the last untainted 2 of them. But this new writing team just wanted to avoid that lore and rushed to tie loose ends with their own version of the lore.

  • @assassinb460

There was this idea that the Archdemons were to elves what the Titans were to the dwarves. Powerful ancient creator spirits that were later bound by the Evanuris and imprisoned to get power. This would explain why the Evanuris were seen as Elven gods because they siphoned that power from the Dragons and as if that weren't enough they tried the same thing with the Titans and this is why the Evanuris had to be locked and not killed. Solas wouldn't kill the Dragons Spirits because they were important, just like the Titans are. But this game rectoning didn't want to deal with the dragons in a game called "Dragon Age" because the new writing team is incompetent.

I don't buy the explanation that arch demons were originally High Dragons. Solas might be lying to us. My guess is that these were other members of the Evanuris who could transform into high dragons like Mythal but were permanently imprisoned into this form and enslaved for eternity to the reigning pantheon. Ghilan'nain proved she could enslave other dragons, so why couldn't she turn one of those into another arch demon? It's because there's something inherently different about arch demons.

So here is my summary of what this discussion reveals.
Basically the archdemons are high dragons turned into phylacteries for the Evanuris, when solas sealed the evanuris, they used their dragon phylacyeries to convince the magisters to break them out under pretense they will become gods, but instead let out the blight and corrupted their dragons to archdemons, each one carrying the soul of the evanuris bound to them. There were only seven because Solas never bound a dragon to himself and Mythal i assume fused with hers to survive when the other evanuris betrayed and murdered her but was still left weaken by the attempt, leaving only seven. Four of the archdemons/evanuris are dead by the time of DA:O, with the fifth Archdemon Urthemial dying, either by the warden/alistair/loghain, or taken by Kieran via the dark ritual and was speaking to him growing up until Flemeth/Mythal took Urthemial out of Kieran and into herself, likely to ensure it couldnt escape, then gave its power and herself to Solas to boost him up in time for the game.
Hope that explains everything clearly for everyone. Now as for which evanuris belonged to which archdemon, that is gonna be tricky to figure out, but i imagine June could have been Urthemial given both deal with beauty/crafts.

Urthemiel was the Old God of Beauty and his high priest was known as the "Architect of Beauty". Therefore I think Sylaise actually matches him better than June. She literally designed the cities while June was more into making clever, practical things, tools and equipment like the Eluvians.
Toth's high priest was called the "Forgewright of Fire", so he seems to me to be more closely matched to June.
