When Hollywood asks us what we want we should only answer "old", let them know no more stories need to be written, that they are obsolete when we have over a lifetime of books centuries old.
Amazing how quick people forgive and forget James Gunn and those tweets he made that nearly ended his career and almost got him cancelled. I despise Hollywood and have zero interest in ever supporting them again. The last movie I saw in theaters was Godzilla Minus One, the only film worth watching in 2023.
They need to stop chasing other people's success and actually build their own. They keep making the same mistake, and it just seems like they're incapable of learning or changing.
Tom King also worked on this film with James Gunn and Company, nuff said. At this point, I would rather just go back to the Hanna-Barbera Era of DC comics and cartoons, when they made all the characters fun, cool, cheesy, hilarious and enjoyable. Yes, I would actually rather have The Super Friends: The Movie, than some dark and depressing postmodern Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman or Justice League film, where everyone is deconstructed to hell, and lives through the pretentious vain eyes of the cynical nihilist director.
What you refer to as the grifter fandom menace channels, I've been thinking lately that those channels are like Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Giving the people the sense of false hope, then there can be true despair.
I've said it in posts on other channels. That costume looks way too bulky for it to be concealable beneath Clark's street clothes. Also, the first glance we get of the great Superman in his anticipated return is the image of the worlds greatest hero bruised , beaten and bloodied calling out to be rescued by a pooch? I guess we will have to see where it goes.
I think people like the opening with Superman being bloodied because it shows that there’s real stakes. One of the common critiques of Superman is that he is kind of a god that is overpowered and can’t lose any fights. It kind of makes him hard to relate to.
@@vincentdawn9689 Not all directors are deconstructionists in the same way. Contray to belief a deconstruction doesn't have to be a dark and cynicial take. James Gunn far from a tradtionlist just leans to absurd and outdlandish elements.

People also completely overlook the liberties Gunn took with guardians in the movies, also peacemaker as well. Those characters are also the complete opposite of superman anyway, not sure what qualities Gunn to make superman besides hiring himself after getting the studio exec job.

@shadysif6220 its OK to have a negative opinion on a trailer, even pro gunn people are a little apprehensive and judging by what wb has done i think healthy skepticism is called for
The problem with Superman movies is that the writers/directors always overcomplicate it and make things harder for themselves. They make it an analysis about society, human nature and religion. It’s all very pretentious. It would be easier to just focus on Superman's story and personality as a unique individual. Show us his family, his friends, and his villains. Don’t overstuff his first movie with other superheroes. That will only divide the audience's attention away from him. James Gunn made the cast an ensemble because he can’t do solo hero movies. He said that Superman is beat up in the teaser because he represents the state of America. Well my question is why does Superman need to change with the state of America? There is a character literally named Captain America with a whole trilogy of movies and they barely talk about modern politics or changes in social norms. There are some themes about surveillance and government overreach but the emotional core of those movies that everyone remembers is Cap's adherence to his morals and his relationship with his friends/love interests. In order to make the audience like a character you have to make them care about what the character cares about. This is why Batman and Spiderman movies are more popular. They don’t get bogged down with vague philosophical concepts. They have good villains and side characters for the hero to interact with. A different villain is used in every Spider-man movie except for No Way Home. Superman is stuck using Zod and Luthor over and over again because they are seen as starter villains/arch nemesis and Christopher Reeve was the only one who got sequels. The Batman (2022) is very mid and has things that were done far better in other batman media. However people still liked it because they did a decent job of executing the common tropes and storylines of a batman movie. I was very annoyed when the teaser showed Lois kissing both Clark Kent and Superman. Lois loving Superman but not his secret identity is a big part of Superman's story but it looks like they are skipping that. Even if she finds out at the end of the movie they shouldn’t have spoiled it in a teaser. If I was making a Superman movie I would make the antagonist a lesser known but still threatening villain like Parasite or Metallo. Luthor would be in it but not be defeated so that he could be used in a future film. We would get flashbacks to Clark's childhood where his parents teach him to use his powers for good. Krypton's destruction wouldn’t be shown until a potential Supergirl movie. There would be many scenes of him saving people from danger and inspiring them to help one another. This is opposed to Man of Steel where it seemed like you were supposed to be amazed at the amount of death and destruction being caused. James Gunn specializes in making movies about obscure characters that people have no preconceived notions about. Superman is the opposite of that so the reason they chose him is beyond me.
I agree. To make a good Superman movie, it should be simple. I'd make a movie where Lex Luthor creates villains Metallo and Parasite to pose them as heroes. They begin to get more brutal and lose control, so Superman has to find a way to stop them. Throughout I would have Clark trying to start a romance with Lois. I think one of the best things the comics did was allow Clark and Lois to be together and become parents. So, I'd try to let them progress forward in each film they're in. I'd start it out with Superman 1, Batman 1, Superman 2, Batman 2, World's Finest Teamup film, Wonder Woman movie, Flash movie, Green Lantern movie, Justice League. That'd just be the first chapter of it.
If we had Mos 2 I would've did it post Zsjl Movie and have the Jl in a Brief Cameo and Superman telling them he'd be in Space for some time and Use that Movie to Introduce New 52 Villians( Villians Superman Fights in Superman Unchained) plus a Cameo of the Og Doomsday
I'm so fed up with people defending James Gunn's crap. They think he's doing Superman justice lol when all he's doing is deconstructing the hero far worse than Snyder and everyone else in Hollyweird. On top of that, people defending this have been duped by the woke stuff before and it hasn't stopped. Hollyweird hasn't stopped making woke films. There is no pendulum swinging.
I watched FNT and I was livid how almost all of the panel members were saying it wasn’t bad and that “who knows guys, maybe they will beat him down to build him back up!” It was garbage and I was commenting up and down calling out how dumb they all sounded.
A good point that was raised while i watched some reactions to the trailer is that the trailer is not as inspiring as MAN OF STEELE or SUPERMAN RETURNS. It's true. At least vibe wise, or considering the eye test. It just doesn't hit you like the those other trailers, even though those movies, especially MAN OF STEELE ended up being completely misguided.
It’s funny though that this new guy looks like Henry Cavill…except NOT in the way Cavill looked like Superman! Which just makes the recast, not just pointless, but also a weirdly self defeating move, if anything. But, what else can be expected…😆🤷🏻
I think the part with superman being beaten had to be included id save that for the end and had him whistle and stopped the trailer there. Dont even reveal krypto approaching yet to build up anticipation for the movie. For the beginning part they couldve had a panned out shot of the earth and moon from space with the sun shinning behind it. Have superman pull up through space heading towards earth with a close up on his torso and emblem as he heads to earth. Then the next scene with shot on civilians looking up and pointing a red and blue streak flying from above. With a cut to superman flying past the windows of one of the buildings showing lex standing at the window looking menacing. Cut to daily planet with clark walking with Lois and her talking. No dialog. Then have clark see on the tv airing the news of metropolis being in some kind of danger like criminals and then the movie starts playing the iconic donner film theme with cuts to: Shielding a police officer from bullet fire, saving the girl like in the teaser, struggling to to push asteroid upon rentry, see the fists of a frustrate lex slam in front of his computer, then a quick suceession of other scene as the music approaches it end, but before showing a shadow of whatever beat superman. Read beginning of post for the last part and drop the title. Or something like that.
This is the same problem as in the late 2000's when Paramount gave Transformers and Ninja Turtles to Michael Bay who is also an Auteur. Those don't belong in an Auteur's hands either.
It's actually insane the amount of glaze this trailer is getting. It's definitely due to people having the need to be excited for something. It's so sad though, there's so many flop and slop movies in this era

It really does feel like an "everything and the kitchen sink" Superman. It's got New 52 parts to the costume. It's got Krypto. It's got Kingdom Come. It's got John Williams theme. It's got font reminiscent of Donner's Superman. It's got trunks. It's got a proper looking Jimmy Olsen, but it's still got the race-swapped Perry. It's got a proper-looking Lois, but it's got the new feminist trope of Lois is too smart to not know Clark is Superman. His costume looks more handmade, but it also is frumpy and hides his build(my guess is it's imspired by Frank Quitely's art, that shows Superman as more of a big galloot than a ripped powerhouse). He's talking about inspiration from All Star Superman, Game of Thrones, Top Gun Maverick, Fleischer, etc. He said on Instagram "Someone on Threads asked what’s inspiring our #Superman movie other than the Donner films… but there are too many to count."
Well....if there's a couple of good Supes scenes in it...sigh. I think fans will be able to make their own Superman film by the looks of recent a.i.tools..they may have to!
I actually didn't mind the trailer but for people to assume there are no deconstrctive elements or as a whole because the film embraces the silver age goofy elements and is colouful. Just shows lack of media literacy, that for piece of media to be deconstructive its needs be dark and overly edgy is just plain ignorance.

Just curious Professor Geek if you were asked by Warner Bros to make a Superman movie what would the story be about and who would the villain be? Thanks
Here is an idea. A hopeful Superman having to deal with a darker and serious world, just like ours. And him never loosing his optimism and faith in humanity.
I think we can assume for now that this film is more about the director's self insertion and vapid modernity over the traditional concepts and themes. As information on g.o.o.g.le has stated: "While Krypto is typically depicted as a white Labrador Retriever, he has appeared as many different breeds over the years. Not exactly the most consistent pup. For the film, Gunn chose to model Krypto after his own dog, Ozu." Another thing I find interesting, is that a Retriever is a dog of pedigree, however, the director's (James Gunn) dog's breed is undetermined ?
Seems like allot of the Fandom Menace all have amnesia. Their so freakin desperate for new content, probably to whine and talk (adhd or rage ) about. James Gunns style is more like Parody stuff or Bathos stuff, whatever you call it. The trailer already indicates too much random stuff shoved in there. Kinda sick of this whole gag every 5 seconds crap thing in mainstream cinema. The Marvel stuff became notorious for this in 2017 and onwards. Also this Superman looks like something you get out of The Boys show.
@rikardandersson5582 . Very true. Allot of current comics seem to have this bathos crap. It's annoying. I had to go back to 90s material to clean my cerebral.
True, words have never been spoken Prof. I would love to have a new superman movie to be excited about, but not to the point I am just going accept anything Hollywood throws at me, and I know in my heart its not superman. You are correct if I had a dollar for every RUclips channel that said this trailer was pure superman, I could buy RUclips. We can't get a true superman movie, because Hollywood does not understand him, nor like him, and some of these RUclipsrs are the same way. They can't get Batman right on the screen, so what makes anyone thing they can get superman, they think they are one and the same.
It’s very “inspiring” seeing a beaten down Superman and somehow Gunn makes it about America today. 😒. It’s not hard to make a good Superman film but why haven’t we received a modern one yet ?
I do find it funny that somebody would have the balls to throw anything at a being like Superman unless you at least think enough of him to know he won't kill you. 😂
While I won’t be spending a penny on this movie, I have no doubts it will make bank, minimum 800-900 million dollars, that’s just a fact. I won’t be giving Gunn a penny, his vile deplorable comments on kids, turned my stomach and me off from Gunn for life. But I hope others enjoy it. 👍 David will crush it and I have no doubts Cavill will be very supportive.
I'm tired of ultra-conservativism that is destroying art and media engagement. Also, you lose all credibility when you advocate for more traditional take of DC superheroes while having Tim Burton's Batman in the background, which is NO WAY a traditional take on an iconic DC character. If you say otherwise, then that is just cope.
I'm not wild about the Yamcha pose either. It's not a dealbreaker, but I'm more worried about how it looks like a CW show. Man of Steel gave me a headache, but I never thought it was cheap-looking.
Why is someone a” Snyder bro” for wanting and liking man of steel to 2021 zsjl with batfleck and cavil’s Superman , we were watching kal el grow into the Superman you’re talking about, listening to how mad and venomous you sound, you need to go to church for some truth justice and the American ,
I wasn’t impressed by the trailer. But I’m willing to understand that other people see things differently. I’m not excited because Gunn says he took inspiration from Tom King’s Superman. Tom King is a terrible writer for heroes.
No one seems to understand Superman anymore. After the Snyderverse Superman I gave up on Superman movies. The old ones are the only ones that exist for me.
doubling down on this take. I don't like making assumptions about movies via the trailer, but this trailer gives nothing more than high budget WB show.
I could see the Krypto scene being something to happen, but if it happens too early in the film it won't be good. Actually most of the scenes SHOULD be later on in the film. But why all the characters? Like, in what universe does Superman need Guy "fucking" Gardner, the canonically most insufferable Green Lantern. Remember when Amazon tried translating LotR to a "modern audience." I do. heck, "modern audience" enthusiasts should go watch the Boys, or Invincible if they want a "rEaLIstiC sUPerMAn."
Cornsweat doesn''t look like Superman and I don't like the suit. I watched the trailer about 20 times trying to like what I see. I never did. I can only hope it gets better
Sorry, but we get an actual Superman movie with Superman? Geez, they can't even get the suit right. I have to wonder how many films DC will do before ditching Gunn for another reboot. It's hard to get excited for anything, though it does look like JJ Abrams got kicked to the curb by Warner Brothers. They have more work to do to make things right.
Excellent commentary. Agree 100%. That trailer was a mess. Krypto being inserted in the beginning like that indicates studio interference for a new "baby yoda" with nothing to add to the story. The whole shtick about the country being beaten is garbage if you look at it from a logical standpoint of him being a Hollywood Liberal. He has lied over and over in the past. The new Superman is a definite downgrade from Henry Cavill (whom all fans love as an actor and individual) and this is from someone who hated the Snyderverse. New 52 stories. Tom King involved. Too many other superheroes involved. I could go on and on..... I agree with your point that there has been so much crap lately and DC disasters on film, that anything remotely good is seen as a great success. This is a very low bar and Superman deserves better. I think this movie will probably do well considering this environment, eke out a small profit based on that production budget, but then be forgotten after the first viewing like most movies these days. Regarding the Fandom Menace, I now consider them the Republican Party of culture. They talk a big game about criticizing Hollywood and never deserving the benefit of the doubt but then they will bend over backwards in action to get any kind of recognition from the mainstream. I have watched them from the beginning but eventually left because of this. Mauler is the only one who hasn't really changed his stance on reviewing and setting a high bar for movies (IMO). Keep up the good work and staying true to your principles.
Yeah the trailer was trash.I hate the costume, its utter garbage and the Krypto appearance reduced the movie to a kid movie to me. I dont want that in my Superman movies, give me real world adult issues and villians for Superman to address. The amount of ppl who like the trailer just bc of the dog is ridiculous, just show cute dog and the masses bc sheep who all give it 5 stars.
Its actually a very disappointing teaser to me too. They butchered the john williams theme and all of the snippets of superman didnt impress me the same way man of steel did or even superman returns teaser did. The james gunn superman teaser had way too many cameos and alot going on than it should be. Suit still looks like crap. And the new actor doesnt look convincing as superman.
I've heard people say the trailer is hopeful and optimistic because after all the beatings, the blood, being dragged, looking miserable, crying, having trash thrown at his head...he flew UP at the end, so see, the trailer was hopeful and optimistic! He flew UP! There is no hope and optimism in the trailer - there is cope and optimism about the trailer.

Yes, I would actually rather have The Super Friends: The Movie, than some dark and depressing postmodern Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman or Justice League film, where everyone is deconstructed to hell, and lives through the pretentious vain eyes of the cynical nihilist director.
I didn't even bother watching the teaser, and from what I've heard watching your streams and videos it sounds like I'm not missing anything.
It looks like a dollar store version of Snyder's Superman, just like The Batman is a dollar store version of Nolan's Batman.
Exactly
Gunn doesn't want to do the traditional superman he wants to do the new world order version.
I'm not allowed to type those three words or my comments get deleted. How do you get away with it? 😂
Hulk Hogan as Superman?! Nah that won't work!
(((Superman)))
That's a common critique of those who don't understand Superman.
Donald Duck usually doesn't bleed either. Do we need to beat him up in a movie to show that he can?
James Gunn doesn't understand Superman. He's a subversive director.
@@vincentdawn9689 No, he just thinks of Superman as corny instead of dark when he's supposed to be a paragon of virtue.
@@vincentdawn9689 Not all directors are deconstructionists in the same way. Contray to belief a deconstruction doesn't have to be a dark and cynicial take. James Gunn far from a tradtionlist just leans to absurd and outdlandish elements.
@@vincentdawn9689Thats just base level understanding doesn't mean there won't deconstruction elements within the story.
James Gunn is good at deleting his own degenerate tweets.
Finally, someone says it! After four straight days of literally every other story in my FB news feed being some Gunn Glazer slobbering his knob over this thing, you put it out there in simple language. Thank you, Prof, for the reality check and the breath of fresh air!
People "just want to be excited."
All I hear is “it’s the most comic accurate” blah blah blah
@@bassguitarislife3419
Been seeing that everywhere, too. Guy Gardner's _Dumb & Dumber_ haircut? "It's comic accurate." Supersuit is baggy and weird? "Kingdom Come. It's comic accurate." Don't know who the guy with the T on his face is? "That's Mr. Terrific, and he's comic accurate. Do your research! I'm surprised you even have a channel." These "fans" are friggin' fools. All they talk about is how it looks, nothing about whether it might actually be telling a story. They'll pay to watch stuff onscreen resemble something else they think they know. Yay.
"if you're a traditional Superman fan" aka if you're a Superman fan. It's made for the modern audience, which dislikes america. A fraction of the size of the people that actually enjoy Superman.
Thank you for bringing up the parallels between Zack Snyder and James Gunn for being brought in just because they had previously made a successful comic book movie regardless of whether or not they suit the Superman character, because I've only seen people bring up the fact that James Gunn had directed Guardians of the Galaxy like it's a positive, It's as if they are unaware of how we got that gloomy Man of Steel movie in the first place.
People also completely overlook the liberties Gunn took with guardians in the movies, also peacemaker as well. Those characters are also the complete opposite of superman anyway, not sure what qualities Gunn to make superman besides hiring himself after getting the studio exec job.
@@zeeski7454Yes, and it really seems like he's incapable of just delivering the character as is. Like his Vigilante has the costume of the original, but that's about it. Honestly, could've called him anything else. I wish he would've just adapted the cowboy version, but he'd probably turn that one into a joke as well.
@shadysif6220 its OK to have a negative opinion on a trailer, even pro gunn people are a little apprehensive and judging by what wb has done i think healthy skepticism is called for
I don't care for Snyder's or Gunn's takes, they're both terrible takes that completely misunderstand the character and what makes him so iconic.
Heck, even Henry Cavill is laughing at this "Superman" 😂😅
Gunn made a Superman film it’s called bright burn
I'm so fed up with people defending James Gunn's crap. They think he's doing Superman justice lol when all he's doing is deconstructing the hero far worse than Snyder and everyone else in Hollyweird. On top of that, people defending this have been duped by the woke stuff before and it hasn't stopped. Hollyweird hasn't stopped making woke films. There is no pendulum swinging.
I've never heard Prof get this spicy before 😂
I watched FNT and I was livid how almost all of the panel members were saying it wasn’t bad and that “who knows guys, maybe they will beat him down to build him back up!” It was garbage and I was commenting up and down calling out how dumb they all sounded.
Going against heroism and the good is the path of least resistance.
Yes that was my thoughts exactly. Guy looks like Henry Cavill without a chin, and without a physique.
No dialog. Then have clark see on the tv airing the news of metropolis being in some kind of danger like criminals and then the movie starts playing the iconic donner film theme with cuts to:
Shielding a police officer from bullet fire, saving the girl like in the teaser, struggling to to push asteroid upon rentry, see the fists of a frustrate lex slam in front of his computer, then a quick suceession of other scene as the music approaches it end, but before showing a shadow of whatever beat superman.
I liked the Snyderverse. But I cannot allow myself to cry and sulk forever because it is over.
I just finished watching BVS ultimate edition after years of not watching it. Man Zack was a head of his time. We won’t ever get a serious superhero film ever again. Dc fans are gonna hate the universe once James Gunn turns it into Marvel just watch
bvs ue is straight garbage snyder managed to ruin Superman after that great Man of Steel movie his version of justice league pisses all over the character at least whedon tried to correct it by putting Superman where he belongs on Top of the Hill

The DCU makes me no sense.
So there's talk about Wally as Flash
I didn't think it was possible to be *even worse* than Man of Stool, but I was wrong! Is it really THAT hard to make a proper Superman movie?!
For modern Hollyweird, absolutely.
I think it is impossible for leftist in hollywood to make a superman film
Glad I’m not the only one who was thoroughly unimpressed with the trailer
I don't see anything redeeming about that trailer
You and me both brother!👍
Takashi Yamazaki would've made a better Superman movie than James Gunn.
@@rikardandersson5582 Exactly. Another example is Incredibles 2004 showing massive public backlash against superheroes due collateral damage and casualties. Also kid sidekick troupe Buddy trying to help Mr Indrecible but only ends causing more trouble due his lack of training and experience.
maybe a teaser isnt eough to judge anything alot headcannon in these comments
For the film, Gunn chose to model Krypto after his own dog, Ozu."
Another thing I find interesting, is that a Retriever is a dog of pedigree, however, the director's (James Gunn) dog's breed is undetermined ?
That teaser made me depressed
"communities" (official forums, reddit) make it impossible for anyone to point out slop.
Thank you
I prefer that his mom made it. That grounds the character so much more in the real world. Stop the Kryptonian uniform crap.
Glad I'm not the only one beyond disappointed with the Depressed JL teaser. Its no Superman movie whatsoever.
what i found funny was that when it hit him he slightly reacted......he is the man of steel and FELT the can hit him lol
First image we see in the trailer, Superman in a Yamcha Pose… 😑 I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
JOYful? 😂 sorry that word has been ruined
Inspiring...yes it's inspiring. It's inspiring me not to watch anything James Gunn makes that's DC related.😆
The Grifter channels, or as ya boi Zack calls them "Birthday party clowns" 😏
And I thought it was just me that didn’t care for the trailer! And what you say the trailer lacks- exactly the same thing I thought!!
New Superman Movie...🤔.... Not Interested!!!
David will crush it and I have no doubts Cavill will be very supportive.

I liked Bvs Ue Superman. I also liked Whedon Superman

What's James Gunn smoking? or rather what's he putting in his mouth? little kids.
doubling down on this take. I don't like making assumptions about movies via the trailer, but this trailer gives nothing more than high budget WB show.
Did you like Superman and Lois? I don’t remember
No. I point people to Tomasi's Superman Rebirth run for Superman with a family done well.
@@ProfessorGeekMC lol ok
That movie gonna suck it gonna flop harder then the flash
David corenswet was the wrong person for superman. it should have been with wolfgang guy.
It's a HUGE disappointment. This movie will tank. Go back and watch MOS trailor see the difference.
That’s what Zack was doing
i got torched on another channel for similar sentiments.....'it's a costume that Ma Kent made' lol the idiocy is remarkable.
It's not even the right breed of dog!
