- Magnapinna squid spotted in 2003 in an unknown location in the Gulf of Mexico. This bigfin is likely an adult.
Footage courtesy of Mark Benfield, Louisiana State University and the SERPENT Project/Gulf SERPENT.
Location: Gulf of Mexico
Depth: 2,593 meters (8,509 feet)
Date: 08 June 2009
Enjoy this #MagnapinnaMonday video! As always, big thanks to Mark Benfield from the SERPENT Proejct for providing this super rare footage!
The way it uh, moves, away from the camera when it gets to close was so cool and very unique.
If it makes you feel better, that movement was likely caused by water turbulence from the ROV getting a little too close for comfort, rather than a special squid-maneuver
@@MagnapinnaArchive I figured that was it, but the way the very long tentacles flap about in the turbulence is pretty cool
The way the squid appears to start looming towards the camera (though I guess the camera must actually be moving towards the squid) while that pole stays in one place but starts wobbling is super creepy. Seems like something from a horror film.
Thanks for sharing these rare creatures with the world!
Wow! _That_ was a pretty close encounter with the camera!
I really don't think there is a lot known about this footage
Wow - that was thrilling to watch. And a bit spooky. That squid may not be a dangerous monster, but he plays one on TV. 👾 Thanks for posting these vids!
Love how it just rag dolls at the end
It got rotor wash
Did they just run-over one of the rarest animal on the planet?
Probably.
I think it got blown around by the ROV propeller.
Finally another t-posing king
these stupid shovel head pool noodle body and ribbon streamers as arms what a amazing squid
😂🤣
Thank you Magnapinna archive🙏🏽 best channel on RUclips
thanks Magnapinna Archive, this made my day
Wish we would spend more investigating the seas instead
The ocean never fails to impress me!!!
Just discovered this channel and im already really ecxited for future videos.
Amazing! Such erratic sudden movement at the end…interesting
Glad you enjoyed it! That movement was likely caused by water turbulence from the ROV getting a little too close for comfort :(
@@MagnapinnaArchiveI hope it’s arms weren’t damaged
Poor guy :(
I’ll never forget the footage of a wonderful black comb jelly getting suddenly shredded by turbulence, I was really sad
Why do they always plow in to the squid and frighten it away? It annoys me.
first time ive seen it happen
There's another video somewhere on RUclips where a weird black jellyfish thing is shape shifting and has (or HAD, I should say) bioluminecence that blinks (dammit I did it again. BLINKED) and like Christmas lights all down it's entire body and the science ROV people are just chatting away all nonchalant, then WOOSH! the poor thing is sucked up, shredded and blown away by the ROV propeller. Like, these are supposed to be intelligent scholars in the top of their fields, yet no one has figured out how close is too close? Maybe put a sticky note on the controls so they remember to not accidentally kill all the animals that they're trying to study? I always thought magnapinas were pure nightmare fuel (and also proof that Hell is real)...but I'm admittedly quite sad and pissed off after seeing this.
So glad I get to be your 10,000th supporter
Big fin monday 😎
Always a good monday when its #MagnapinnaMonday 😎
yo, love the videos man! i wanted to ask, could you share the copyright restrictions of these footages? we need them for a music project, for a visualiser video, for a song based upon the deep sea and magnapinna... would using these clips in the visualiser cause any trouble?
thanks :)
Hello! Most of the footage you see in my channel is either public domain and free to use for non-profit reasons. Where available I always put the original credit in the description so it will give you an idea of who to get in touch with to use the footage (although I don't own any of the footage myself, if it's a personal project then it's no problem using it, typically!)
It's interesting how much the camera quality has improved from 2009 to 2022... Insane, actually.
Hey question can I use some of the magnapinna videos s clips for a music video?
Hi Pedro, you may use this footage if you give the appropriate credit. Please mention Magnapinna Archive as well as the appropriate credits which are in the descritpion :)
@@MagnapinnaArchive Alright then, two mentions then, one in the credits, other in the special thanks track at the end of the album. I'll notify you when it's done.
Random stranger here with a question: Is the album done yet? Curiosity obviously has the best of me today lol. Let's see how far down this rabbit hole goes :)
what scares me more is that it was taken on November 11th
That's not a spooky day
I still have one question: why do these squids always love to just hover infront of the camera?
Wow
Squidward jumpscare😂
0:50 it’s time to turn into jelly!
oh hell no
fyi there is better quality footage on the same channel
The fact that billions are being spent to go into space just to fail or find a rock that we won’t be able to touch in years instead of spending it to discover our own planet makes me angry.
Just the fact you call them rocks shows your lack of understanding on the usefulness of figuring out their nature, but anyways the reason we are even exploring space is because its far easier and cost effective to explore the vacuum of space than the extreme pressures of the sea
@@triberium_ They are quite literally rocks, if not do then what are they. Ocean exploration is far less expensive than Ocean exploration. I’m not sure where you are getting that information. Just compare Oceanx to NASA’s budget. Also, figuring out our ocean’s nature is helpful to our planet as we are destroying it.
@@dystopianfuture1165 We are destroying it by being alive. If you are that concerned, feel free to begin exploring the sea.
@@dystopianfuture1165 Nasa budget its used for satellites and GPS among other innovations, some used to Record this video you commented on.
Those rocks are clean simples of the material that formed our Planet billions of years ago, the study of space and other planets already solver several problems we face on earth and gives us info about what can happen with our own Planet.
Those rocks can also be examined billions of miles away and have the info sended back just like we do on RUclips and social midias.
But yeah, they are only "rocks"
@@dystopianfuture1165 the reason your talking to us is rocks the reading life exists is rocks. Every single thing you use has something to do with rocks
How are these more common than giant squid?
this video made me question EVERYTHING, I mean, just how BIG and/or SMALL are these guys??? I love them so much, my little enigma squid
That one was estimated to be about 26ft long. They're main tentacles tend to be about 15-20 times longer than their body.
