    I'd agree with Jeannie and Tamera on this one. Just because they get you a ring you don't necessarily like, doesn't mean they're the wrong guy, that's shallow thinking. The energy between them seemed to be good this time too.

    • @912nelle
      @912nelle 9 лет назад +32

      But both jeannie and tamera liked their rings so their arguments dont really apply. Their husbands knew them well enough that although it wasnt something they talked about their men still knew the way to go. Q

    Wrong ring wrong guy is the mindset of someone who is entirely too materialistic. Some guys are just clueless in those areas but that doesn't mean he isn't fit to be your partner smh. Anyway I thought Jeanne's story was cute and sentimental and good for her stopping Loni before she could start.

      I definitely understand your sentiment, but I also get where Tamar is coming from. I'm not even materialistic in the least bit. I'm not very big on gift exchanging, but it does hurt my feelings when/if my bf gives me a gift that showed that he wasn't really thinking about me and what I like and who I am.

    Am I the only girl who truly does not value the ring? It bothers me how much society teaches women to value the ring so much, as if it defines the marriage. Personally, I don't care about the ring, I would rather focus my attention on having a loving relationship I can value. Society should instill that principle first.

    • @TonyTurner
      @TonyTurner 9 лет назад +59

      Great Values. Society focuses on commercial materialism too much.

    • @2write2sing2dance
      @2write2sing2dance 9 лет назад +25

      You and me both. Its the man who you value; the ring is just a symbol of a good man's love for you. No one should care how it looks/how many carats, or whatever. This is how women get caught up/in with a shady male who can provide $$ but not love, protection, support, safety, and comfort. I'd take a pop rocks ring from a good man any day, or the ugliest ass ring society has ever seen, over a glam expensive ring from a shady or unsafe male. Parents have to do better for their kids. Instilling the best values is what counts.

    • @livelove7475
      @livelove7475 9 лет назад +19

      You're right. I was uncomfortable with the fact that Tamar was claiming that a guy that does not get a ring that you like isn't right for you. So, all your certainty about the man being the one and the wonderful qualities about him (loving, generous, kind, empathetic, compassionate, a potentially amazing father) are now irrelevant, because he bought a ring that you didn't like?
      As you said, a loving, lasting marriage should be the focus

    I'm one of those women who's missing the "bride gene". I was never one of those girls who daydreamed about their wedding, the dress, the ring, the man. So the ring to me is irrelevant. I don't care if it was your aunties, your grandmas, your mamas, it's from Tffany's, Harry Winston or Jared's. You love me, and you wanna marry me, then let's go.

  • @thisanonymous5956

    I remember looking at rings with my husband--boyfriend at the time--and showing him what I wanted. It was the complete opposite of what I ended up with. My husband picked out something so timeless, yet unique. He had better taste than me!
    Most guys are clueless about ring styles. If you don't discuss what you like beforehand, you can't blame the poor guy for picking something you don't like. This is one of those times I completely disagree with Tamar.

  • @Misslovlii14
    @Misslovlii14 9 лет назад +22

    I love Tamera! Probably my favorite on the show. I agree with all the ladies on this one. With Tamar, I agree that I wouldn't want to go ring shopping or even know that my bf is going to propose. I want him to talk to my family first and for me to be surprised. I don't think that he's the wrong guy if he gets me a ring that I'm not fond of though BUT I do think it's very special when he adds little touches to it showing that he knows me and listens.

Like if my GF proposes she knows me uber well and even with the gifts we exchange now you can see how well we listen and remember what the other likes. So it does say something about someone who goes shopping for you and doesnt know what you like or even remember little things to pick something out similar to your style.

  • @ab_i_gayl
    @ab_i_gayl 7 лет назад +2

    At the end, Tamar, Tamera and Jeannie agreed on the same thing. The guy who will propose knows what we want like if we don't care or care about the ring/diamond/size/color and what we like. It's not being materialistic. The ring, for me, is like a symbol of our love so it's a bit important to choose the right ring for the right person.

  • @lilypoppy1962
    @lilypoppy1962 8 лет назад +2

    i think if the ring is okay then that doesnt mean the guy is wrong but if its a type of ring that you absolutly just "hate" like she said i kind of agree with her. when it comes to marriage superstitions and things like that play a big role. if it aent right then it isnt be true to yourself and pay attention to the way the person makes you feel and what you accomplish with that person together.

      Mysterious Mercy A ring doesn't equal how much you know a person. People place too much value in these small things. Do you know how much time and effort men put into picking rings? Maybe he got nervous and wanted to impress you so bad, he ended up doing the opposite, etc. Material interests change CONSTANTLY, so to say he doesn't know you because he chose the wrong piece of jewelry is beyond shallow.

It DOES NOT take the element of surprise away, and I just go proposed to this past Sunday! ☺️❤️ We went ring shopping with my mother during MLK weekend because I needed to see what different style of rings looked like on my finger (and I was surprised more than anyone because rings that I thought would look good didn't). He took notes, found out my ring size, and was super hush hush about it. I caught him looking for rings after that only once, and it was early on. And honestly, I have NEVER been more surprised in my life than during his proposal. I was shaking the whole time like a chihuahua. So really, it just depends if your significant other is good at surprises or not. If they are good at it, then they'll surprise you no matter what. And don't pester your poor loved ones about details of the surprise either! Lol.

      Yea he should definitely know by the time he's ready to make u his wife. ring shopping is cute but I dont think you should ring shop for your engagement. i think it should be a surprise and then after you marry or if you want to upgrade during your engagement, then you go ring shopping.

    My man was asking me about what rings I'd like. I said I like square cut, asscher style gems. He said NO! LOL . He really was against it. It was kind of surprising to me that he would have such a strong opinion about it. He said oval or round look best for this gem. He was wanting to give me a sapphire. So It kind of felt a bit like, he wanted to give what he wanted and I said , well this is something I have to wear everyday and look at all the time. If I'm going to be honest, if I don't like it I just won't wear it. I'd rather him just not waste the money on something I don't like. We eventually came to picking out one that we both really loved, but I still think, if you are someone like me with a DESIRE to have INPUT, - you need to be a part of the process.

      True but the ring he picks needs to reflect how well he knows you. My dad told me that the ring is NOT just about the money value but the sentimental value. The wrong ring would tell me that he wasn't listening. If he bought a ring that was better than what I thought I wanted, that's different.

    I agree with Tamar on this one. If my man is thinking of proposing to me don’t ask me about a ring I don’t want to know I want to be completely surprised. I would hope he’d have enough sense to figure it out himself of what style ring i love or if not ask my best friend or someone else who really knows what I’d prefer

    I don't wear jewelry so I really don't care for it, and I wouldn't really care about what kind of ring my boyfriend will get for me if he proposes to me and I think it will be pointless to go ring shopping with your man. It is pointless to go ring shopping with your man because you wouldn't really be surprised if he proposes to you and he got the ring you showed him. I will trust my boyfriend to get me a ring that I like and I will accept it no matter what, hell I'll even take a band if he proposes to me. Jewelry and materialistic items are not everything.

    I genuinely don't understand this. I never grew up picturing what a ring/jewelry from a man would look like, and I never thought about carats or gold or a price. When I realized I want a spouse I just thought about the qualities I need in him. That's all...Can't you just wear what beautiful gift of love or marriage or any kind of symbol of (you're the one for me) he gives you? Why are some women so caught up in how the jewelry looks; how many carats, gold, silver, or whatever? I don't care. I'm going to wear it because of who its from. I guess what I'm saying is, I know who I am in personality, but, in the case of jewelry I have no idea. He's gonna get whatever he would like to get me/can afford and with me in mind. That's the way.

    I think you should go ring shopping when you feel it in the air that the time is coming up soon. Like when you're at the mall or something. He needs to start saving those coins and learn about settings, clarity, cut all that. Not to purchase it but to give him a good idea of what you like and what they run. Never send a poor man out there alone clueless because jewelry stores love that. If your ring maters to you definitely give him an idea of your taste or you will be disappointed. If you're very easy going and you don't even know what clarity or cut is then you will be happy with whatever he chooses.

    Women today want to get married but are not ready to do so. I'm a simple woman, I want a simple band with a simple center diamond. However if I were to get a more blinged out ring, although it's not my style I won't complain and I will genuinely love it. An enengagement ring/wedding ring is not something to flaunt around for kicks, it means something. I personally want my husband to pick out the ring but if he wanted me to choose I would. However these women need to grow up, if they don't like their ring, they have a problem with it. They don't like the price they have a problem with it. Just be happy And proud that you have a ring which symbolizes the next steps of your lives. Stop trying to out do everyone else. And no I don't think I'm better than anyone else because I want a more simple style ring, just throwing my two cents out there.

    the title of this may seem a little harsh, but Tamar is right....The guy you are going to spend the rest of your life with has to know what ring to get you.......Jeannie and Tamera did not get the ring they liked or expected but they love their rings which means it's the right ring, thus the right guy.....that being said, it's quite possible for the wrong guy to get the right ring.

    It sounds a lot more superficial than it is , i think the point if wrong ring meaning wrong guy is exactly how tamar said if youve been dating he should know YOU and knowing what you do and dont like is a major part of knowing somebody. If you dont know what I do or dont like by the time you want to propose that means you havent been paying attention to me or we dont know each other well enough to be husband and wife because thats a basic thing and if we havent covered that how can we talk about having a life together , deciding how many kids we want if we want any or where you want to live , religious preferences or lack of? Not to say that you bewn wasting your time and this guy is not good for you he could still learn about you and try it again when hes certain he knows you. A spouse or significant other should know enough about you to make a decision on your behalf

My mom, sister and my ladies would know ask them but you have to have your options to show them. Don't just invite them because you need someone who knows me. Pick a few out, ask my peeps for a little advice on the rings then pick one.

    The ring first of all is materialistic, with no substance until you put value into it. Personally the ring doesn't matter to an extent. If that's all that matters people need to start questioning their relationship.
