- Jason Kingsley, the Modern Knight, is joined by a mystery guest. They discuss how to use a lance from the back of a wooden horse, and investigate the practical skills a medieval knight would have had to learn.

I'm here for the Medieval Cinematic Universe crossovers. Keep them coming!
Now this is the real MCU
Would that make Shad Thor?
I agree with you
"Let me show you it's features!"
@@Mr47steam Particular german inventor that luckily did not participate in medieval wars?
I love Jason's smiling trot when he goes to "get a spear" and his even bigger smile when he trots the other way to get one "without a sharp end". You both are loving what you do and doing what you love and it shows!
I damn near lost it at that moment, such a cute, hilarious scene. Couldn't have written it better if you tried
The little exchanges between them are spectacular.
- "Can I get you a spear?"
- "Of course."
Said with the most casual and supremely English "would you care for a biscuit" sort of attitude.
Don't ever change, gentlemen.
Just saw Jason on an episode of Expedition Unknown, portraying a Templar Knight. His stance, posture, costume design... He did the Templars proud.
Thanks, they filmed here for a long time and used a few seconds of footage, which was a shame.
@@ModernKnight You stood out from everyone else. Wife and I could actually see the pride you had bearing their colors in comparison to the other actors. Complete difference in the vibe, even if just for a few seconds.
Was that this scene? ruclips.net/video/y5szuFEEUao/видео.html
Indeed, but you were filmed, just happened to find the cutting room floor for their story.
Was that the episode that also had Matt Easton?
"Shall i get you a spear?" Followed by the biggest grin i've ever seen anyone do haha!
Like a boy showing of his toys to a new friend, so incredibly wholesome! Thanks lads!
Two slightly lunatic chaps having a jolly merry time..... Horray 👍🙃🙃🙃🙃
I'm happy to see a young Denethor, joyous -- even frivolous, playing with his friend Radagast.
You two have some of the best conversations. I vote for more collaborations with Lloyd.
Knew it at once from the thumbnail. Unmistakable long slender beige body.
4:25 Lloyd: beheads horse.
Jason: That's a spectacular fall. And a very expensive bill.
I knew it. I saw that beige figure on the thumbnail & I just knew it. You've crossed over with some very cool people I'm very fond of, but this collaboration between you two lately is my absolute favorite.
"I'll go and get my most peaceful, steadiest, gentlest horse, *WARLORD* "
Great video Jason! Please please please if possible do more cooperations with Lloyd and Matt and all!
You can see how excited Jason is with the giant smile they both seem to be having so much fun so wholesome
Happy as a grown man running to get his spear to play swords with his friend
@@Dinofaustivoro "Flamewolf14" is quite plainly a cowardly mental infant.
they really let their inner kid out together and seem to be fast friends.
Yes, it's the genuine enthusiasm that makes this so enjoyable!
I love BOTH of you guys. So happy to see this I'm a loooong time sub of Lindy's
I was expecting to see Lloyd squirming around on a horse and we having a good laugh at it, haha.
An internet celebrity, a beige man, a dancer, an archeologist, and now a squire. Lloyd is really going places.
It's like when you invite a friend over for the first time and show him all your toys.
Ah, Lind from Loydibeige
Do you guys ever think to yourselves how nice it is to have friends where one of you can say to the other, ‘shall I get you a sword’? And you can casually reply ‘alright then’ while your sat in a medieval saddle on a pommel horse in period clothing. It just seems marvellous to me when you have friend who love the stuff you do like that :)
The way Jason runs to his shield and spears off camera is adorable, like a little kid running to show off his toys :)
the colab of the century
Specifically the 14th century
Watching Jason run around with a giant grin on his face is wonderful!
Jason has the perfect type of suit to share his wisdom in the role of a mentor.
I love how it takes all of 20 seconds for you two to completely forget there's a camera and just have an absolute blast nerding out about history together. I wanted to jump through the camera and join in 😂
they're syncing so hard its really amazing to watch them bounce ideas off of each other. please, more of this
hehe! This was fun. Also I loved the "let me just go get a lance / spear / sword" etc, said so casually. XD
In the sword community you bring a unique perspective, Jason, from the cavalry / fully armoured angle. It's interesting!
Fun seeing how Loyd's general knowledge / experience came in handy here to give him a head start, too.
This was actually so interesting. Seeing you actually teaching another person about the history of horse warfare is so easy to follow along! I'd have never have known about holding the lance under the other arm. Or I did know and forgot but seeing you teach someone else about it with a practical demonstration helped me learn too!
Can't wait for more of this! Lindy having legs that are too long for the stirrups was also something I didn't expect. I'm sure there were very tall people back then so did they make special stirrups for taller people? I'm guessing everything about a knight and their equipment was specifically designed for that knight but just changing the the length might have been quite the task for people back then who were used to doing things a certain way. I dunno but regardless, super interesting and cannot wait for more!
Depends how much money you had, I imagine! Non-standard solutions take more time and hence cost more. As a rich noble, you'll likely just pay for it and get it done. As a levy, I imagine you'd just get munitions grade equipment and if it doesn't work for you that's tough cookies, because it's all you'll get.
Back then each village probably had a leather worker, so getting a longer strap of leather with some holes punched in it would be easy !
Ooh. Nice! A suprise upload and a collab at that. I thought you would still be busy with hand sewing. 😅
9:50 The reason they might want to lift themselves from the saddle is that there most likely is a risk where after a very heavy impact (i.e. being hit when exchanging lances), if you are firmly against the back rest it might break your back. If you lift your bottom from the saddle you might get dismounted on this heavy impact, but that is probably better than breaking your spine.
But you could still break your back on impact with the ground, or your leg/ankle if you get caught in the stirrups
@@ladycreedrain726 I'm not saying it's a foolproof method - it's just chosing arguably lower risk over the higher one, but at the end of the day it's still a gamble. Plus we know they did this and what I state here is merely an idea why
In modern days you don't actually sit while horse is running most of the time
When he said “mystery guest”, I was like “It’s either Matt Easton or Lindybeige” 😆
'If you see me panicking......try to get out of the way'.
Made my day brighter
Ahhh the memories of growing up a young equestrian and the moments I've forgotten from sheer force of impact. We used to say ur not a cowboy unless you've been bucked out of your boots. And in western saddles with "cowboy" boots that can happen and has happened to me twice. I attempted (you could say) a third but the boot decided not to let go of me and I was simply dragged about 100yrds before my horse blackjack (who really was a very good gentle soul) even noticed and just stopped and stood there looking at me like as if to ask "are you finished with that nonsense can we get on with the running now?"
I love the way we described our horses very similarly lol he's a very good boy but he is in fact a horse. So death is always an option xD
Seventeen minutes when it could easily be a very enjoyable hour.
Do not leave us hanging Sir Jason!
Yes, Lindy. I am so glad it is you. My favourite two RUclipsrs
Thank you, very enjoyable. You've both inspired me to take my daughters to the Wallace collection this weekend.
great place, lovely and odd collection of things too.
@@ModernKnight Okay, do we get to see the next steps of this lesson? I also am wondering about these saddles - since they have to fit so closely to keep the rider in place, are they custom-made to fit each rider? One size doesn't fit all...
@@Shan_Dalamani okay
@@DeyRapingEveryone This does not answer my questions.
@@Shan_Dalamani Perhaps try being less rude when asking questions.
I really like how excited you look when you pass in front of the camera to get the tools to get the content of the video, and how Lloyd seem to just wait in the exact same mood, I can only say, you look like kids in a playground and is fantastic 😁
Maybe the shield was strapped to the upper arm for calvary charges. That would give more range for the lower arm to wield the reins.
I'd think they'd rise from the saddle during the charge to give them room for shock adsorption at impact. Those 4 or 5 inches to fall to the saddle could spare the tailbone by transferring the energy to the leg mucles.
Indeed, some had the Pauldron sheild as well, all one unit.
I don't know what you said to RUclips (if anything) but I actually received notice of this new video, Huzzah! And it's a great video too. Thanks! Makes this hot Texas day more enjoyable.
You've got to curse the preview-on-hover feature for this surprise. Even so, it's great to see you and Lindy collaborating again. Such a treat!
I saw a very tall, thin person and immediately knew what's up!
@@22Uzbekistan Same here :-)
You can tell from the shirt, as it is the greatest of all colors.
Sitting in a saddle and being asked "Can I get you a spear?"
Heavenly! 😁
These are the best crossovers ever created
I'm loving everything this channel has to offer. Only wish I had discovered it years ago. Keep up the great work my dude!
Welcome aboard!
Would love to see Jason and Lindy crossover with Tod and Matt. I know there are others within the community, but as an Englishman I absolutely love all of your calm, understated and non-sensationalised videos.
Long live the quartet!
I love how pleased Jason is about the idea of running to get a spear in order to stab Lindybeige :P
Lindybeige would fit perfectly into the cast of monty python and the holy grail.
I keep seeing Graham Chapman. (I think I have the name right.)
I both suspected and hoped it would be Lloyd, very happy it was. You should team up more often.
Jason is just grinning throughout all of this and I love it
The comedy duo we didn't know we needed 😁👍👍👍 great work as usual!
Can't wait to see part 2 !
Love this crossover, and I can't wait to see the next video when you're on real horses!
I must say it seems like jolly good fun being a knight on a horse.
Im getting flash backs from reading The Greatest Knight here.
I have fallen twice of a horse in my life. The first time all I thought was "can't let the horse go, can't let the horse go". The second time I just had this flash of "I'm going to be trampled". Ever since then I'm just going for mostly falling, which is quite different from totally falling.
Also Jason, how much do you weigh in armor? I'm quite interested in cosplaying while riding my horse but I often feel bad about my combined weight (base+armor).
I remember talking to Lloyd about collaborating with Jason, but he wasn't keen on riding horses. Jason is a master, and with his encouragement and tutelage, 'Lindy' should soon be a competent rider. Better yet, when he's finally strapped into his armour and saddle. We just need heraldic devices and a couple of knighthoods.
OMG LINDYBEIGE! What a legend!
Wonderful conversation to share. Teachers teaching each other is a win win.
You are having so much fun it is contagious! Be careful WHO goes after you... XD
Besides the education and history, I also love the Englishness of this.
Cheers to all my brothers across the pond!
i know lind when i see him, you cant hide my favorite story teller
So far I've watched three minutes and I'm dying to laugh :) You guys are amazing! If you can make Lloyd a cavalryman, they should appoint you honorary president of the teacher's union
EDIT: I watched the end, you are a true cliffhanger master. Viewers sit and bite their nails anxiously as they wait for the next video - have you really decided to put Lloyd on the Warlord? And what does Warlord say? And what about Lloyd? I know he survived ...
P.S. You have a great costume. This leather caftan is really beautiful. New acquisition? Who was doing it for you?
I cranked up my imagination and began to wonder what the film would have been like if Matt Easton had been in Lloyd's place. And what came out to me was that: 1. The video would be much more serious. 2. Matt would have been great at wielding all kinds of weapons even if you put him on the ceiling. 3. You could learn a lot more from each other as a result. 4. I don't know if Captain Context would be persuaded to get on a horse :) 5. The film would certainly have more substance - but it would also be a less funny. I won't say that I don't miss such a film. But for now I am indeed having a great time and look forward to the sequel.
Such a simplistic idea for entertainment and yet I'm having loads of fun just watching you 2 talk history. We'll be moving to Suffolk next spring. Hopefully some time over the next few years we'll get a chance to run into either of you (Jason, Lloyd, or any other European history enthusiast) at an event.
There is nothing in this world even half as wholesome as a grown man showing off his toys to another grown man.
Lindy is always great fun.
These are the kind of team ups that make Thanos shake in his boots, just missing Matt and then the Trinity is complete haha.
There's something special about seeing Jason and Lloyd being all exicited like two little kids playing together.
I find it interesting that “tactics” of heavy cavalry are often overlooked. Reminds me of WW2 fighter aircraft - where Americans developed tactics based on the advantages of their aircraft (speed, dive, firepower) compared to Japanese aircraft.
For an armored knight, “keep moving forward” - use the momentum of the horse! Don’t get caught in a “turning” fight with adversaries on your flanks. Push through, break off, and re-engage. A principal we never see in the movies.
We kind of saw it in The King, on a way that doesn't make any sense though
During the battle scene of Agincourt, some knights break through the line of men at arms and make it to the English rear guard (when they shouldn't, in real life)
And then we don't see them ever again, everyone is dismounted on the next scene
Fantastic! Jason and Lindy Beige. The dynamic duo strikes again!
More! Two of my favourite creators! 👍
Jason Kingsley and Lloyd is a match made in historical youtube heaven
We need to get this man a knighthood an official one
I knew it just from seeing that huge guy in the thumbnail!
Look what you have done, Dr. Strange!
Lovely collaboration and they are such a dynamic pair! It was also an experience to see Jason do most of the talking😉. Think we all want to see more of this as they are my two top ranked youtubers on this area of expertise (even though Lindybeige is jack of all trades sort of...).
A crossover I have wanted for a while now. Thank you sir
If you see the oncoming rider panicking while you're on a vaulting horse in a nearly inescapable medieval saddle it's already too late. ;)
And in a serious note I think you just answered a longstanding question about why the McClellan saddle tree is open along the seat.
Cool video ! Looking forward to part two!
The elbow-forward stance makes so much more sense once you see that it angles the shield to deflect anything incoming up and over the rider's head.
I can not express how much I love seeing my favorite youtubers showing up on each others channels.
So, I am not a practicing Jena person, but one reason you may want your hips above the back of the saddle in a couch is to avoid your back breaking on the back of the saddle. This way, if you take a blow, your whole body falls backwards off the horse at once, but if the saddle is in the way, the top half moves back quicker and… well… breakage
I like jason's language. "Would you like me to lengthen this?" "Can i give you a spear?" All are mere suggestion
When I saw the thumbnail I knew it was Lloyd, recognized his outfit from the field archery video, and his color of course!
This information is so helpful for understanding what it really would have been like to be a knight. Thank you so much for the great video!
Fascinating from beginning to end.
It's great to see you having so much fun with this!
What a team up! Absolutely loved this and learnt much. Thank you.
Lmao I knew it’d be Lindy before I even clicked 😂😂 you’ve both got such passion and enthusiasm when you speak.
YES. more of this
You should definitely work together more
Lindybeige used to do a lot of 'a point about' video's. Those would be very interesting if you have somebody to discuss it with
I've been a long time viewer of both channels and it warms my heart to no end that that this cross over happened. Such a treat!
I clicked expecting Tom Scott but was pleasantly surprised. Next, a tournament Tom vs Lloyd!
Jousting should be an Olympic event.
This is a delight to watch, like two friends having fun.
Came here from the archery video, both videos were in a way very adorable :-D
Oh my goodness, this was filmed during the heat wave, wasn't it? Thank you both for enduring this for our education and entertainment.
Great video as always. Lloyd is a freakishly tall giant knight. Quite flexible for his size though. Probably a result of lindy hop dancing. I can't wait for the beige knight part 2.
I'm glad I could guess it was Lindy by the color of his shirt, otherwise the mouseover preview would have spoiled it.
This needs to become a regular segment
The crossover we were all waiting for.
Another great video Jason! Your videos are entertaining and very educational. You have taught me a lot about medieval life and have fueled my interest in this era of history. As many people as said before, this is what History Channel should be like.
Thanks
Tis very nice to have some decent vlogs again, Jason, I look forward to the next one.
This was as always an education, can see the strike and OMG zones very well
Longtime fan of both of you. I strongly encourage continued collaboration between you two, and maybe bring in Matt as well, if he's not too busy ;)
