I kind of wish that this was recorded as a web series with "hidden cameras" everywhere as to capture the action without being obstructive.
Like 20th Century big brother
Dani-Saur Except the People are actually somewhat likeable?
I was referring to the camera setup not the people
someone has to do this.
there needs to be a murder
The following week they all got influenza and died.
LOL....excellent.
oh boy did you write the script for 2020? you must tell me what's going to happen next
@@minervali631 It's the RADIO WAVES, WIRELESS! I'M TELLING YOU! IT CAUSES THE FLU!
@Niek Vels Lol, this message has a whoooole other connotation now. Stay strong everyone, 2021 could prove to be a rough one yet.
this comment aged well.
Ended up hating a guy who was playing a French..... Seems about right.
I can't even imagine the amount of organising and preparation required for such an event!
Wow, I never knew there were LARPs with such high... production values? Looks like a tonne of fun.
I'd never be able to take one seriously lmao
@@AverageAlien haha same low key cringe tbh
@@user-hs3dg8jy3t You still watched the video though XD
I would pay real money to see this Pool scene.
Yup, me too - was Lindy brash and arrogant, totally convinced of the American "manifest destiny", or was he thoughtful and erudite, a bit of a Tom Payne? Who broke? And most importantly given, no doubt, Lindy Beige's long hours spent on the snooker table, who won?
Considering it’s been almost a year now, sadly, I can’t remember the exact wording, but I can tell you it was sparked with me asking about the chances of America joining the war, as a bastion of freedom and so on.
And Lindy won, even with my strange rules. I am horrible at pool.
I think he could act that scene alone, pretending there was a russian guy next to him. Right clothes and trick shots.
Trey Moir as opposed to fake money? >:^)
@@mikalarsen3748 Was it pool or snooker? I thought, that snooker was more of an aristocratic game.
I always love seeing things like this. My groups murder mysteries hardly compare.
yeet
Rimmy - Downunder Gaming Holy hell rimmy you suprize me everytime
God knows what your role playing would be like!
What is this? A crossover episode?
I know it's not what you mean, but I can't get the idea of you and some friends doing a HoI-leader based larp out of my head now
Question:
Wouldn't using a camera be considered out of character?
The camera crew was impressively subtle. They wore period costume, and had some disguises for their cameras. Players were able to ignore them or treat them as characters.
Wow, that is impressive. I thought the footage was shot by you, so that's why I asked.
Never been to a LARP, but it looks like a ton of fun!
You traveled to Poland just to larp as a British man? Pff...hahaha!
I think he maybe just shot that very first scene, perhaps before the Camera crew had organised, which is the thought I had. He was obviously holding the camera low, and probably acting as though it wasn't there, if that is indeed the case.
Rafał Sadowski maybe he did larp as a French once, but if he did he would have confiscated any video footage proving such an outrageous behaviour. So maybe he did, but even if so we will never know.
And he was also pretending to be *French!*
That would be a Comedy and not the Drama (comedy is part of Drama in the big picture I am aware )
Ruins the immersion tbh. No Brit would pretend they were French.
Wow this looked awesome.
Hi Vincent, in case you're interested in going to Fairweather Manor, the website is: www.fmlarp.com we still have tickets available for run number 6 from Nov. 22 to 25 :)
Shoulda picked a better class, Binder would have been really useful for combat, plus all the Spell-Like Abilities of the different Vestiges allows you to adapt to any situation.
"What's your character?"
"Binder. I have vestiges, which give me spell like abilities to adapt to any situation."
That was pretty awesome to watch, I'm guessing some of the footage was caught by the event itself, was some lovely shots... overall just couldn't do better to sell LARP. Nice one
Hello there.
@@minoreror9961 general Kenobi
God, I'd kill to do this.
Please don't. Other methods of doing this are available.
Lindybeige for you and only you Mr Beige, I promise not to commit murder.
This is actually pretty interesting, and looks like a ton of fun! I wanted to get into the whole fantasy/medieval LARP deal, but this kind looks very interesting indeed. That and I'm a sucker for settings that revolve around World War One and Two.
And that ending, damn... Must have been fun to play that out!
Odd Fellow He is a fan of stuffing the French
To be fair, most of us Brits do that, ha.
Hi there, in case you're interested in going to Fairweather Manor, the website is: www.fmlarp.com we still have tickets available for run number 6 from Nov. 22 to 25 :)
I hope you have a nice time. First the Harry Potter rps, now this, i must admit this makes me quite proud of Poland's eccentricities and lovely abundance of old castles and manors which most certainly make great venues for stuff like this.
Minty Moon It's literally one castle though.
Mateusz Jesionkowski Wow, I didn't realize that until I saw the entire picture castle. With pictures at different angles and sides of the castle they look very on photos.
Plenty of these buildings when the Bourgeoisie were removed.
So when do the swords come out and people start throwing lightening bolts? I is confused...
The Real Killer B You didn't see them?
cant tell if you are being sarcastic or actually stupid
Defronnie: thinking the exact same thing about your post.
Those swords weren't foam.
Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!
LOL... laughed myself silly at that video back in the day.
I was so happy to attend the game as a servant myself. I loved your scene with the pinguins! That was amazing!
Just wow. I live in Poland and I've had no idea that they organise such things in Moszna Palace!
passionfruitfruit they do these things to keep the place running and to see history live in the place out of respect.
Bravo Lloyd for giving some of your viewers the opportunity to see what LARP is. its a great group activity and a way for people to express themselves in creative ways. it has helped people through some dark times in their lives and its also an awesome way to make new friends. for anyone interested to possibly join such a group (without the need for specialised clothes and props) look up "
Those can be fun, but the World of Darkness LARPs are generally long running campaigns that, depending on the story, can be hard to get in on. Not to mention you need to learn a crapton of lore to play them. But they're fun!
Well, that looked tremendously fun!
It's kinda weird watching a Lindybeige video and go; "Know her, know him, has played with him, has GM'ed for her..."
I never participated in such a high level LARP, the ones I took part in were entirely silly teenagers running around pretending to be wizards and warriors kind of things.
Nonetheless they are great fun, and what many people who get properly in character can definitely say is that scenes like Lindy and the Russian having the one on one dramatic scenes are great. Because after all the scene is not for viewers it's there for YOU.
I would wager that many of the participants at this event were better actors than the ones seen on television and movies.
The intricacy of all the moving parts of this world is incredible..I never knew this existed at this scale or depth along with the characters being so well portrayed. I'm completely impressed this looks so much fun and it would be really interesting to check out
This is one of my favourite videos you've ever done! It feels so bloody interesting, if I could afford the travel it seems marvelous! Thank you for such a wonderful video.
This seems like the future of history courses. Maybe just in VR, but I could see some high level college courses teaching the students what to do for a 3-6 hour LARP one day on the second to last week of the course with outfits approved and graded before the event. Obviously the teacher would have to make students aware of this commitment they must keep or leave the course during the first week. Writing an essay about what they learned from the experience as part of their final.
I could see it being an extra curricular in middle school-highschool for students who are in or who have passed advanced history though obviously with a more lax dress code or a means to get the student a costume without their parents having to pay for it. In this case instead of renting a beautiful building like this for the event like an expensive college course could they could just work with the drama people to decorate the class room being used with easy to store or put in place decorations.
Man I'd love to do something like this, would be an absolute dream
Well....I've heard on the grapevine 'Dziobak' (whom run this event) are offering free tickets to play servants. Not sure it true, but worth asking So if you can find your air fare, the next one is in November . Link here www.fmlarp.com/
Alex Taggart thanks man
Seriously, this sounds amazing
The next run is Fairweather Manor 6, from Nov. 22 to 25. There are still tickets available for playing servant and noble/artist ^^
I mean, it would be natural to forget you were in France! It's 'Detached South England' anyway! ;-)
Michael Berthelsen I hear the entire continent can be cut off by fog from time to time. Better off sticking to the civilised side of the channel.
Yeah, wouldn't want those brutish Kelts getting idea's above their station. They can have their island and sit on it I say!
Or England is a detached north France ......
England is what happens when a bunch French vikings decide to start their own country with tea and dragon ships.
sander heutink England is what happens when a bunch of German seafarers say "capitalising every noun is dumb" so someone says "if you don't like it, start your own country!" and they do
This is how LARP should be imho. I want to go there!!
I think you should make a video about how normal people who find this interesting might get into it easily and what arangements you find to be the best. I know for myself that i definetly want to get into LARPing, nad to get credible info on it from a youtuber i trust would be nice.
the servant spy network... i love it
Thanks Harry, I, as someone who hasn't Larped, I've learned so much more about Larping. Thank you! (I've been a fan for a couple of years now). Thanks for always delivering solid content, and for being so informative!
This nerdy one-shot has higher skill floor than my actual life.
It's hyper social extroverted nerdy*
Which is a bad kind of nerdy.
@@ScienceDiscoverer How is being socially extroverted and nerdy bad?
Are you vlogging!? Cause I like it.
The most LARP type thing I ever did was a MUN (Model United Nations) based on 1984 (we where big brother cabinet). I was the minster of peace, which means the minster of war in 1984 which was quite fun. But for a dystopian sad story it ended with an unscripted democratic coup (as all the ministers supported the rebels int the end,) followed by a election which was quite nice.
Sounds like the ministry of love did a poor job in your rendition
The minster of love, although she hid it was actually the first to join the rebellion. It explains why all of the rebels in minlove managed to escape or commit suicide.
Sounds like she didn't love big brother good enough to be given such a position :/
There's a megagame (a large scale game with light LARP elements) called Watch the Skies that's basically a MUN during an alien invasion. Shut Up & Sit Down have filmed themselves partaking twice now, and it looks like an insane amount of fun. I'd love to give it a try but it seems like most of the attempts to get one started stateside fall apart prematurely.
Im blown away at the size and scope of this production. I had no idea LARPS like this existed nor why this isnt more well known. The logistics to organize an event like this would be staggering. The dedication by every single person to their character. All it would take is one person who wasnt taking it seriously to derail the whole thing. Sorry Im just kindve flabbergasted after watching this.
This is delightfully nerdy.
It's hyper social extroverted nerdy*
Which is a bad kind of nerdy.
I'd like to hear the speech about how you believe in the project called America.
Laughs in 2020
OMG this is awesome!! The Polish rock! The actors all seemed like such goodies, and I'm so impressed that the waiters paid for the experience and were such diligent subordinates. You couldnt do that it England, people would be like "who do you think you are mate?! I'm not being paid you know.". I want to RP as a waiter now and I'd be ever so good.
that actually looks realy fun
Absolutely splendid. Although I thoroughly enjoy your historical content, I find stories such as these, the steampunk festival, and the performing arts video to be among my favorites.
I had no idea things like this were being organised, I am colored impressed at the production! Also nice dig at the end.
People actually do this? And they go all the way to Poland to do it? In droves? I'm so confused. How does one end up in this strange world of people doing these weirdo things? Drama school? And why does it not seem to be cringey? Why does everyone perform so well? Was the fight scripted? Was anything scripted? So many questions.
Yes. Some. Relatively. Mostly you find out about it online, but this company does a great number of events, so potentially just through them. Maybe that too. It's cringier when you're the only one not playing in. You sort of get yourself into it as you go and a number of players do these rather often. Not likely. Probably not. Any more?
Maarten van Rossem Lezingen thats europe for you i guess
IkeofCrimea Is this normal and am I the odd one for not knowing about this?
Maarten van Rossem Lezingen Usually nothing's scripted, everything is improv besides a plotline carried by some npcs (non-player characters). There are lots of things that don't make much sense for bystanders, like shooting at your friends with small colour-filled pellets, moving an animated character through a virtual reality created by pixels, and, well, LARP. But once you do it and get the chance to immerse yourself into it you may catch fire. ;)
Maarten van Rossem Lezingen Normal is relative, but I think perhaps it's not so odd you wouldn't know. It's unfortunate, honestly, because it's such a fantastic storytelling form
Not having tried LARP myself, I feel like I was granted a peek into a subculture that is not merely nerdy, but MASSIVE and highly cultivated. Just imagine the organisational and monetary effort they put into this game, all the historic research and character builds - and finally all the people that took part. This is extraordinary! Thanks for showing me something new, Lindybeige.👍
Blockbuster LARPs like FW are absolutely amazing experiences that everyone ought to try at least once in their lives. Fortunately, they're popping up all over and in a variety of places and in an incredible array of genres!
swampmarcher There might be? I know Dziobak does one that is all about pirates and you sail on a ship on the Baltic. That's one of my main goals
I love hearing your larp stories, this was an amazing video the dedication people put into games like this is astounding
i didnt even know there was such a thing, man Lindy your channel is full of suprises, thanks
That was mighty brilliant to see, very interesting.
This is absolutely incredible! I've never seen such dedication to role playing on this scale. Top stuff
Damn it!! One more thing I need to do after I retire and before I die... If this keeps up I'll need to live to be 100+.
This is wonderful! I plan to attend Fairweather Manor if I can, I’d love to play a Noble or an Artist (perhaps a Lady of some sort or a Hollywood starlet?) Thank you so much for the wonderfully informative video - there’s only so much you can get about what it’s like emotionally from the Design Document (which was also very informative, though!).
sometimes i think "why would anybody do this in their spare time?" when i watch a lindy video
but then i realise that the same could be said about me playing games and watching naughty pictures and videos of women all day long
No, you playing games and looking at porn is a naturally occuring behavioral setting, going to poland to larp as european aristocrats and social elites circa 1917 is NOT natural at all... This is for people with more time and money than they should have and throwing it at something like this... Imagine how many games and porn vids/mags this would cost in equivalency, then add per person and you'll understand...
Feiora Watching porn and playing videos games is not natural behaviour. Your brain gets addicted to endorphins when rewarded for virtual tasks. You may question why people LARP but at least you interact socially and not stuck behind a computer screen.
Why you think that "reality" is better than "behind computer screen"? Both of this realities exist only inside our brains, brain chooses what to believe itself. You can't say that one reality is better than the other for everybody. People often forget that not everybody is one of the hyper-social extroverts that rule this shitty society nowdays.
ScienceDiscoverer what does reality have to do with anything? besides, reality exists, no matter what. if you are a crazy person and can smell sounds and see smells and make out more colors than the "normal" color spectrum, it doesnt change anything for anyone else.
as galilei once said, the world still travels around the sun
Feiora, the price is actually pretty reasonable. If you went to Poland on vacation it would probably cost you just about as much. If you look at it as just taking a three day vacation and doing something you have fun doing, it is pretty normal.
I think Shad we agree. That is not a castle.
But a Bloody brilliant video Lloyd!
Absolutely amazing! I wish you could've documented more of it so we could get to know some of the characters.
The first time I see a video about a LARP where I got goose bumps!
I especially loved that bit at the end.
How interesting I would like to see a series about this particular larp. It's so cool how everyone is in character and has a role to play.
I think this would make a fantastic series made exactly the same way but with hidden cameras throughout the manor and it's environs a-la big brother. Preferably with several different characters including the servants coming in at the end of each episode explaining their personalities, choices and beliefs like you did here. I'd certainly pay to watch that
I just want to say, this is amazing, spectacular, magnificent! I want to participate in something like this so much; but I sure as hell don't have the money or time to do it.
You're a very lucky Man Lloyd!
you are living such an interesting life . i dont see my self doing larp but i find it quite fascinating
Oh heck, I'd better post something here so people know I was early.
It was the butler who didden it.
Matilda But what didden the butler do? And where and with what? ;-)
He diddened take all the organs out of a clone - or was that the other one?
Wow! Having seen it done wrong over the years at conventions, I didn't think that I would EVER consider LARP'ing to be cool. You definitely opened my eyes to a new possibility.
Well, this just popped up as we finished watching the first disc of the third season....
Working our way through it again.
What an extraordinary display of escapism. I’m half sickened half impressed. I did watch all of it though.
What a cool concept! I love the high production value!
Wow, rather mind blowing. Beyond any sort of event I could have imagined. I'm not sure how I would behave and react to such an event. The ending did grab me though. I could feel the emotion of the players.
Lindy, i just loved this mate... just amazing.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how well Lindybeige inhabits this character?? Love his hair that way.
Wow that all looks brilliant. I never knew anything like that exsisted
I fell in love with those non-group goal oriented larps last year. It was an intimate affair with only 30 players, the LARP was called "Sami-Zusammen-Sudentenland" and dealt with the thorny history of a small village in the Sudetenland from the 1930 until 1945. It was intense and the interplay was just marvelous. Looking back even now I tend to think of my co-players as "my sister", "Father" or "uncle".
Most astonishing. Thank you for sharing this.
It was lovely getting to experience this LARP with you! ^___^
I love that you got Raquel Skellington's shocked expression when she got proposed to. I remember her telling me all about the larp and that being such a genuine shock to her. XD
5:24 There is our man!
Check out the red-hot beige Casanova action, as our hero goes in for the kill at 9:36, with that absolutely corking fencing bird from the start.
GET IN THERE MY SON!
As an American, I'm overjoyed at your take on the character.
Words cannot describe how awesome this sounds.
Brilliant video, would definitely love to see more of this sort of thing from you man
All time favourite Lindy Beige video.
Nice to see the old place being used for what it was designed for.
I was invited to be an extra in a garden party scene by a friend but when the film came out you couldn't see me because I am not very tall and fairly slim. Everyone was taller than me.😊 Your film looks exciting. I like the bird 🕊️ You look the part.
2:25 I saw those lusty eye's! 😂
Hey Lindybeige - you were awesome at the larp. / the swedish guy playing the english guy pretending to be french.
I was thinking how fun it would be to play a servant right as you said it :D I just love the camaraderie and reassurance of being in a big npc fraction. Until I have collected all the stuff to play a good alchemist that is ^^
2:39 I wouldn't call the situation in Ireland in 1917 a mere "whisper"
So nice to see this! All them memorys :D
This was incredibly interesting! Can we get more LARP videos, please?
Please share more details of the stories that happened! Want to hear more!
What the hell is going on here? This is amazing!
This is incredible. Can't believe this is a thing.
This was absolutely superb!
Oh gosh, what fun! I wish I could get into LARP, but I'm so shy I feel like I'd have a really hard time.
I'd love to roleplay as a Polish Ulan. They have such awesome uniforms.
Now that's my kind of LARP. None of the magic elf mumbo jumbo just full up drama set during WW1 my favorite historical period to study.
I think a would have preferred playing a servant in that rather than a Nobel.
Nice. Greetings from Poland
By March 1917 the Russian Revolution had started and Russia would soon leave the war. The Germans set the Hinderberg line. The Americans hadn't even started sending troops. The war seemed like it would never end. Also, this is coolest thing I've seen Lindy post.
It's interesting to see such a LARP.
As I'm writing this, I'm a few days from event which is based off of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's science fiction novel "Roadside Picnic", with a hefty dose of Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 film "Stalker" and the computer game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ("Shadow of Chernobyl", "Clear Sky" and "Call of Pripyat") thrown in for good measure.
It's a bit more action oriented with a fair bit of bit of PVE, because it takes place in a "Zone" full of Mutants, Anomalies and Radiation where characters search for valuable alien artifacts amid industrial ruins. The anomalies and radiation are usually simulated with radio transmitters which trip up receivers mounted on each player - seeing your "radiation" light turn on and knowing you have one (cumulative) minute before the "death" light pops up gives you a new sense of urgency, while when the "anomaly" one starts flashing you freeze in your tracks because one careless step in the wrong direction could mean the same thing. It's really amusing to see entire groups of people try to find their way through an invisible anomaly field by carefully stepping so that the "anomaly" light stays on, but the "death" light isn't triggered...
I've been attending this and similar games since 2009, playing the same character, a xenoarheologist, and one of my favourite moments was when I was exploring a ruin at night in the dark (don't want to attract attention by lighting up unnecessarily, you never know who is out there), I heard a sound in the rubble in front of me, so I threw myself flat against the wall, pulled my pistol free from it's holster and decided to turn my flashlight on at arm's length, to confuse and blind the potential opponent... Only for my heart to skip a beat as a pair of intensely green, reflective eyes looked back at me from the gloom. It was in fact a perfectly ordinary cat, completely unrelated to the game, but in that moment, I was 100% my character, alone and frightened in the hostile Zone...
There's also another episode where my character had to hide his identity to hide from a murderous cult which, despite the fact the person playing the cult leader knew me personally and knew I'd be playing the same character he never even realised I was at the game until I pulled off my mask and shot him, while everybody else assumed I was the nationality I was pretending to be and even tried to engage me in off-game conversation about how I liked my visit to Romania...
Finally! A new video!
Seeing all those shots with your first person commentary makes the whole event seem like it was more than just the “wedding” that was planned
BEIGE!
Now that I've got your attention, NOW IS THE TIME, Lindy! Get your pilot,"Built for the stone age" and get it published, now with an older and more dashing Lindy!
