Look at those fractions! Knicks Go answered all questions about his ability to win at 1 1/4. Medina Spirit was smartly kept off the pace and showed class for second, as did EQ for third.
Knicks runs like a machine, runs same race everytime. Older horse, speed of speed, Greatful for 3-1! What a gift! You can't beat what you can't catch! I would also love to see Life is Good vs Knicks Go at maybe a mile and one eight, that would be a treat to see.

EQ won all but 2 races in his 3yr old year, with wins coming in the Southwest Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Jim Dandy Stakes and Travers Stakes. Medina Spirit had a break between May and August, and he only won the Robert B. Lewis Stakes, KY Derby, Shared Belief Stakes & Awesome Again Stakes (beating weak fields in 3 of his 4 wins). Medina also only ever won races when he was loose on the lead the whole race, he couldn't win unless he had the lead or was pressured (as shown in the Preakness). Beating another horse or not isn't even really considered in the voting bc it all comes down to the horse's record for the year. EQ won more prestigious races than Medina Spirit did this year, and it'd probably place a very negative light on the sport rn if they were to give the award to Medina Spirit, when his Derby win isn't even official yet
i was at keeneland and saw him win at 70-1 in the breeders futurity and then in the juvenile just 4 weeks later and he ran 2 great races except game winner was just too good as a 2 year old.
Loved seeing Knicks Go. He got lucky when Brad Cox got him. This horse is magnificent. Much pleasure watching him loving to run. Happy to see Medina Spirit 2 nd. He's a good boy.
Had the race won by half way up the back stretch! Oozes class and won this in a canter.A gold champion. Hard to figure how those 3.5 year olds were to succeed here , not least given the manner of KG's last race.Difficult to perceive that even a triple crown winner would have beaten this fella.Stamped with indicative markings , for an outright fabulous racehorse.

Medina show real class he took the widest route in the three path and still got up to get second that to me is more impressive than knicks go who shot to the front and hug the rail all around with no challenges.

Knicks Go beat both of their times for the Breeder's Cup Classic. He didn't set a record though. Looks like there were a few horses that ran slightly faster: Skip Away in 1997, Raven's Pass in 2008, and Ghostzapper in 2004.

It is proven today that the Kentucky Derby win was no fluke. Medina Spirit has beaten EQ twice. It would have been almost a replay of the Kentucky Derby if there were no Knicks Go!
GREAT TIME....the talk of them letting knicks go loose on the lead is ridiculous. there wasnt a horse capable of keeping up with him at any point in here.45.77 to the half, 1:10 for six furlongs and a sub 2 minute final time. Forget about it. the other horses ran great. there just wasnt anyone better in this race then Knicks Go and i dont know who could have run much faster present or past. thats about as fast as you get. outside of someone doing a suicide pace and trying to run a faster 3/4s which would of been a losing strategy. this final time is right there with candyrides track record of 1.59.11 so that is about it. no one in this race had a shot at beating knicks go when he is at his best and he was this day. 1:59.57

Medina isn't likely to get the 3yr old honors for the fact that you mentioned, it would shed a very negative light on the sport due to the fact that his Derby win is still under scrutiny. Medina also has beaten very weak fields in his other 3 wins this year, while EQ and HRC both ran against top quality fields all year and dominated them. A horse beating other horses doesn't really factor in here bc it's more about the individual's overall record on the year. If HRC and EQ had embarrassed themselves in the Classic and completely not run at all, then maybe Medina being champion 3yr old would be more realistic. But bc EQ and HRC both put in strong efforts to be third and fourth, they likely still outshine Medina for the honors. EQ has also won more prestigious races this year than Medina did. Medina only won the KY Derby, while EQ won both the Belmont and the Travers

JV saved no ground and fanned MS 2 wide on both turns, while, HRC and EQ saved ground inside. MS ran as fast as the winner because of the ground loss!

Medina Spirit is best horse Essencial Quiality.
EQ looked held back too long. The jockey didnt get him in place in time to let him stretch, he even appears board at one point.
If you just focus on EQ and Hot Rod, every time those two face each other, it's almost a carbon copy finish the way EQ gets him.

This was not the only race where there was a distinct bias towards the middle of the track.
