    Note that the only color in this animatic is yellow. The lightning, Zeus's eyes, and... Penelope. And the artist of this animatic confirmed they were portraying Penelope as a projection from ZEUS to prompt him to save himself and not his crew.

      Reall is a cool detail.
      Especially when she sang the same lyrics to the sirens before. Moreso, the fact that insyrument that (viola if i could remember) wasn't present in the sound music, deeming it a fecade.
      Wonder if odysseus even recognised that it wasn't her, or that he knows, but he is desperate on that point that he doesn't care anymore.

      Before I watched this animatic I imagined Penelope's part in the song was Ody substituting Siren Penelope's words in his own head as a way to like, soften the blow of the choice, as if getting back to her n Telemachus will make all these horrible tragedies worth it, but this animatics idea of it being a projection from Zeus to tempt him is just downright devious.

    Zeus making a cloud version of Odysseus' wife just to molest it in front of him and then destroy it is such a Zeus thing to do. Just an completely in character power flex done with such casual disregard.

    My only complaint for this animatic is that it's supposed to take place at sea not on land. But damn is it so amazing I almost don't care.

      But my head is also like: WHY? Why were they not on their ship? 😭 for the upcoming story they had to be for Ody had to end up floating in the water.

      The animator said they wanted it to be more hopeless, they wanted the juicy drama of "but what if they didn't even make it off of the island before Zeus showed up?". They answered a lot of questions in their comment section.

    I would just like to say that Eurylochus is to blame for the whole scenario with Zeus. Yes, he and the crew were hungry. No, you DON'T screw with a God of Olympus's cows, even if you have no food left.

  • @Atlazuko

    to be fair they have put him through absolute hell. all of their misfortune started not with the cyclops like everyone thinks but them killing the sheep when he told them not to. after that Poseidon was destined to get involved cause if they hurt the cyclops? he'd just Helios who did it. killed it? same thing. By announcing himself he was trying to force whatever retribution from that act fell solely on him... (like dudes this man never does anything stupid it's his entire character why would he do that one stupid thing? come on) thing is Odysseus is favored by Zeus... Poseidon can't actually touch Odysseus cause Zeus would get mad about it. but Odysseus doesn't know that. its why Poseidon has to make Odysseus let him kill him. he can't do it unless Odysseus goes willingly. which is why he says all he does in ruthlessness to kill Odysseus's will so the man lets him kill him that way Zeus can't technically get mad about it.
    and now they did something he can't save them from and that's what he realizes... and why he gives up on them. because if he was willing to sacrifice them all? they would not have gone through Scylla's lair. the equation for that was I have to choose 6 men to die out of the men willing to abandon each other as soon as something goes wrong... or i have to loose them all in to the whirlpool monster. sooo yeah no that would have them all kill each other if i told them cause as soon as i told them we have to choose all out bloodbath and he'd been through a lot and wants to go home thanks. and it's not a negative character trait to want to live i mean damn guys.

    The fact that Zeus is the god of justice and honor, as well as the lord of lightning, makes this a whole lot weirder. Because in his mind, his version of “justice” and “honor” implies the assault of a woman, which was viewed by the Ancient Greeks as a horrible and death worthy offense, despite what you may think.
    So the idea of the God of Justice and Honor breaking the laws and all customs just to make a point, says a lot about him. To Zeus, and by extension all the other gods, laws are only needed until it becomes personal. If a crime is done unto you, do it legally, but if it involves family, it gets personal.
    This also speaks to the fact that 80% of Greek Myths involve Zeus getting horny and shagging some random woman, despite being the “God of Justice and Honor.” Honor and Justice for those with Power, but not to the helpless.

  • @disableddragonborn
    @disableddragonborn 2 месяца назад +11

    It wasn't even a decision. Everyone knew what Odysseus would choose. He always saves his own ass, no matter the cost to others. Eurylochus is Odysseus's sister's husband, so he'll have some explaining to do at some point. Zeus said "the gods will make him know" in regard to Astyanax's paternity if he had survived, so who's to say the gods that Odysseus has pissed off won't tell the loved ones of the men he killed what their own king did? Poseidon could kill Odysseus without Odysseus getting wet at all.

    • @fleischsalat318

      But also, in Mutiny the crew made very clear they had given up already. Why choose them when they were about to die already for their will was broken already? Also it was their fault for killing the cattle. Ody begged Eurylochus not to do so.
      It's still hard when Ody chooses his live over theirs.. but in the end it's just more weight on Odys shoulder than he carries already, although he hasn't really messed up much so far. I just don't understand the crews problem. Eurylochus for his own fear plants so much doubt, but Ody did nothing wrong so far. Just giving his ID to a foe who wants you dead is dumb as hell but also human. Also Ody didn't just give it away. He was about to just leave, but then Athena showed up and riled him up. After that Ody wanted to give a lecture about moral..

      If Odysseus really only cared for his own ass, he wouldn't have gone to save his men who got turned into pigs back at Circe's island. Eurylochus even proposed that himself

      @@kacperrus5202 That was before "Monster". Any decency he had left in him was destroyed in the Underworld. Eurylochus was trying to remind him of that part of him, but failed to realize that Odysseus killed that part of himself.

      @@disableddragonborn So then why was he begging Zeus to not make him do this? You idiots who demonize Odysseus while absolving his crew of all the blame for being IDIOTS BLINDED BY GREED AT THE LAST MOMENT BEFORE THEY REACHED HOME are always such a farce.

    • @bradleybarnett1469
      @bradleybarnett1469 2 месяца назад +4

      Hey, as that same man said, "If you want all the Power, you must carry all the blame". Eurylochus made the choice that killed him and the crew. He's proven to be a hypocrit before, especially considering he was willing to sacrifice crew members to Circe and then acted like he would NEVER do that when Ody was about to get 36 men back home (they were RIGHT THERE ONCE AGAIN). Eury made his choice, he gets to die for his STUPID STUPID STUPID decision. It's made worse because at least in the original, Eurylochus prayed and promised Helios to build a temple in honor of him and give him tons of gifts and sacrifices. In this, he just kills the cow with no prompting
