I think this would have to be my favourite depiction of "brotherhood" in a war film. Aside from the brutality of the war in this film, the relationships between the characters were just beautiful and so real and raw it had me crying. Enjoy :)

I think he will forever be one of my favourite actors nad to me one of the best actors of our eneration just because of the broken soul expressions he does with his face throughout the movie. They are so real. When they're drinking and he is reciting the Bible and starts to cry is the perfect example of what an actor is capable of, it just make me tear up every time and feel so sad. He is so underrated and should be apreciated a lot more.

This is exactly what I've been thinking of. How do you even move on from constantly revisiting that night and the sight of Fury fading into the fog? Where do you start? He didn't really have a proper closure to the events either, besides covering up Don with the jacket. That is 3 days of Norman's life he either told everybody about, or no one.

The "German Norman" made the same rookie mistake as Norman at the beginning of his journey in the tank, he did not kill his enemy or say anything. And I understand that that finally saved his life.

I’m in awe of how the Director captured the incredible performances while relaying the blind spots and extremely tight quarters in Fury/the belly of these beasts. "Ideals are peaceful. History is violent."
Fun Fact: All of the extras are British military or former military. One scene had 350 extras.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: Brad Pitt shoots several German soldiers with a German-made Sturmgewehr 44, also known as a StG 44, the world's first successful assault rifle.
Tank Enthusiast Fact: The second time a genuine Tiger I tank has been used in the production of a WWII film. It features "Tiger 131" from the UK's Bovington Tank Museum, the only fully functioning Tiger I tank in the world.
Historical Fact: Despite the dramatic ending, it should be mentioned that the Ordnance Battalion attached to the 2nd Armored Division would have had Fury cleaned, painted inside, patched, repaired, and released in about 48 hours. The Sherman tanks seen in this movie were considered the weakest of tanks at that time period. However, the L55 M1A2 76mm gun mounted on Fury was capable of penetrating the front armor of the Tiger tank at ranges up to 700 meters, more if HVAP ammo was used.

    • @gattonero2915
      @gattonero2915 8 месяцев назад +4

Gun enthutuast addendum fact: The fact that "Wardaddy" used Sturmgewehr as his personal defense weapon (PDW) means that any German soldier that managed to capture him will execute him summarily (which is why that German POW that worn the American GI jacket was executed ruthlessly by Norman's "Hand"), which is a known Geneva convention rule-exception when it comes to handing PoWs or spies that wore your side of the gear [ Refer to Operation Greif, AKA Skorzeny's warcrime move of diguising himself and his commando team as US Military Police, and even dressing up their Panther tank to imitate the American M10 Tank Destroyer to cause confusion behind enemy lines during the infamous Battle of the Bulge]
Tank enthusiast addendum fact: The Tiger 1 used in the film was a huge liability during the filming, mostly because of its heavy weight and tracks, which made the requirement of laying concrete slab (and burying it) on the Tiger 1 traveling path a necessary requirement made by the directors, and this also meant that the tank can only go forward or backward at predetermined pathway - which is why in the movie, the tank was only driven in one straight direction both forward and backward.

The dinner table scene was a brilliant way to illustrate the impact war has. A glimpse of 'normal life' as the yet un-jaded Norman and Emma having a moment in a peaceful setting... then the war comes. Not the bombing, but the rest of the crew coming into the room. Loud, crude, rough, and chaotic, their showing up creates a very jarring and grating shift in the atmosphere. It is a perfect before/after snapshot of the toll that war has on a human being.
At the beginning of the final scene when Grady apologizes to Norman and says that he thinks Norman is a good man, though he and the rest of the crew may not be. He seems to be speaking for the crew as a whole. Since the dinner table scene, the crew seems to have realized just how damaged the war has made them. The hate they always thrown at Norman had come to an end because they realized it wasn't Norman that they hated; it was what he represented to them - life before the war. They hated what they had become.
Wardaddy said the tank was his home. It wasn't just the tank he was talking about. It was the war and everything else the tank represented. It was who he was now, and he knew he'd never be able to go back to his old self, even if he survived and went home. The tank and crew were all he had left.
    War had left its mark.

As brutal as the scene is where Brad Pitts character makes Norman execute the German, it is based around an actual military law set down as part of The Hague Convention which states any enemy combatant found to be disguised in the uniform of their enemy, forfeits the rights afforded to them by the Geneva convention and are to be treated as a spy or unlawful combatant, and dealt with as such (which usually meant execution in the field). So as harrowing as the scene is, making Brads character look heartless and inhumane, there is factual truth and reasoning for his actions

Fun detail: this movie is structured as an apocalyptic story, and you actually see the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse subtly thrown in. It opens with one, and there are 3 other horseman appearing at different times of the film.
Also, this movie is loosely based on a real tank crew. "War Daddy" and his crew were real and some of the best tankers in WW2. If you want to hear the true story, I recommend checking it out on the Fat Electrician's channel.

12:00 For what it's worth, Norman didn't commit a war crime under the rules of the Geneva Convention. The latter states that any soldier who wears the uniform of another nation commits the crime of perfidy, and thus forfeits all rights as a POW. No help to Norman's eventual PTSD, though.

I did see this movie not long ago for the first time myself and it hit me like a train. It's a so well acted and directed movie! Like you said before they make a very good job of showing the horrors of a war and what it does to people. At the same time have moments of joy and happiness. Sometimes only for a short time and then you're ripped apart again from reality.
For me as a German its also kind of funny to hear actors like Brad Pitt speak german. Its so interresting that the also did cast german actors for this movie. For example the Girl 'Emma' is played by Alicia von Rittberg. They all did a great job.
For me personal it's so important that we all learn from history and together make sure that events like this can never happen again! That's also an important goal in german schools: The next generations should find out what really happened and learn to deal with this responsibility.
Thank you for this great movie reaction! peace☮️
Edit: I apologize for my English if I made any mistakes😅

My grandfather, who commanded several Sherman tanks on Iwo Jima, told me that the tankers didn't want to walk around in the open, like the infantry, and the infantry did not want to be locked up in a tank where they couldn't see or dodge.
The extra hatred that the American soldiers had for the SS was largely the result of the Malmedy Massacre, in which the German SS machine-gunned over a hundred American prisoners. After word of that atrocity got around, there was an unspoken agreement to never take SS soldiers prisoner, even if they tried to surrender.

Sad fact: Tanks are most vulnerable at the side.Towards the end of the war, on the German side, there were many young soldiers who were 13,14, and 15, years old. Although he knew they were all going to die, Hitler sent children to fight for his lost cause. Very few of the German regular soldiers were Nazis. On their side, there were just as many scared boys and men as on the side of the Allies.
They too were brothers and friends on the battlefield, and they went through the same horror. The only difference was that from a political and historical point of view, they were fighting and dying on the wrong side.
At this point in time, we find ourselves at the edge of WWIII.
In Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of soldiers have already died, and they keep on
dying while both sides believe that they are fighting and dying for the right cause.

Glad you did a reaction on this movie, Oscar. I have had it on my Netflix watch list for months and months, but when I saw you do a reaction, it forced me to watch it first.
There were some pretty gruesome scenes, but like most war movies these days, Fury was brutally accurate in its depiction of tank warfare. Years ago my partner and I sat through a Remembrance Day of war documentaries; one was about cavalry in the WW1 and another about tank warfare in WW2, and it was hard to hear the stories, some even delivered from the old soldiers themselves, seeing them get choked up decades after the war had ended, still recalling friends they had lost and the brutality of the battles themselves.
War movies today are as viscerally accurate as the old movies were merely "Hurrah, the conquering heroes!", the difference in the genre almost caricaturish. The contrast of watching and hearing the sounds of war portrayed as it was in Saving Private Ryan and other such movies makes one wonder why anyone goes to war...politicians, I suppose.

The Sherman was more than a match for the old Panzer IIIs, if they ever encountered one. They would be roughly on par with the Panzer IVs, depending on models of each. The Panthers and Tigers outclassed the Shermans, except in terms of reliabilibty and numbers built.
The Tigers were tough though. There were some on the Eastern front that were hit dozens of times and kept running. A picture exists of one that was pock marked with hits and even cracked armor. Unfortunately for the Germans, they were overly complex and slow to build and were prone to breaking down because they were so heavy and their engines and transmissions weren't strong enough.
Different countries used different color tracers so they could tell who was who. There were 5 to 7 bullets between each tracer. It also had a psychological effect because you could see the fire coming at you, and the disadvantage of revealing where the shots were coming from.

"Fury" is the name of the group's tank. Tankers became like a mini-family since WW2 tanks didn't have additional infantry men who walked outside the tank. The tank was a group of guys who were treated as a single unit, the tank. That is why the became so close. The AVERAGE age of soldiers in WW2 was 26. With their heavier armor, the Panther and Tiger were almost impervious to rounds fired from the Sherman's 75 or 76 mm main gun; conversely, the 88 mm gun on the German tanks usually made short work of their American opponents. It was so hard to see them get on the youngest/newest guy played by Logan, but if they have a team member who cannot be counted on then other members of the team can die. I would imagine that the hardest thing to deal with was the Hitler youth...they were literally kids who would kill anyone who wasn't German. Great job as usual, Oscar. This movie, along with Saving Private Ryan shows the raw realness of war. So good.

The crews deaths was hard to watch it caiout of nowhere, norman i thought he would get shot but the German soldier let him live.
When you wondered if that horse and soldier was us or German in the beginning i was like definitely German, us wouldn't use horses

The crew was pissed at the dinner scene because they've been with Brad Pitt's character from the start of the war, years at this point and now suddenly they're being excluded for some randomly assigned replacement they've only known for a few hours. A guy that has up to this point shown them that he can't hack it and got another tank crew killed, in all likelihood men that they've also known for years. Frankly, it's some massive plot armor that has kept Norman from having an "accident."
So yeah... their reaction is much deeper than just being "butthurt."
People who haven't been in combat see Norman as a new guy who needs time to adjust. Combat Veterans like myself see a guy who is needlessly going to get good dependable men killed. People die in combat, you have to accept that but it's an entirely different feeling when you see some bumblefuck getting your brothers killed because they refuse to do things that you've been doing for years.

Yep, that’s the message of the scene. That despite how messed up the situation, there is a duty and obviously Norman overcomes this and is the first to say I’ll stay with you in the end. Awesome character arc.

good actors and good action but logic wise its really bad. Take the final battle for example, a broken down and, stationary tank wins against a whole ss battalion. Apart from this, a good equipt ss battalion nearly at the end of the war? pretty unlikely.

This movie is great in terms of casting. I basically love all the main actors. What a blast. It really shows the true horrors of the WWII, especialy April 1945 when Hitler was basically insane and had nothing to lose. But the hate this movie gets for fighting and battle scenes is completely based. Battle scenes are complete bullshit and Germans are acting like a stupid sheep running around and dying at the hand of the heroes. No tactics. No common sense. No nothing. Just stupidly shooting one cannon till it gets destroyed and then shooting another one, instead of all of them shooting at once and completely obliterate US tanks and putting machineguns to the trenches in the MIDDLE OF THE FIELD :D , instead of making them in the forrest where they can move and move and move, like a good machinegun crew at that field at the first battle. Plus those cannons could shoot like 15 rounds a minute. Not like here where germans shot one round in 30 seconds. And so on and so on. Fury had the budget to make battles look realistic. But instead the director chose to do Hollywood bullshit, take every cliche from every war movie and put it in Fury sadly. The last battle is maybe emotional because they slowly die one by one, but completely unrealistic. Germans would take 5 panzerschreks at once and completely fry them inside their own metal coffin. And another important thing is.. German unit that large would be destroyed imidiatelly in April 1945 because allied airforce basically owned the skies above Germany at that time. They would not move like this during day because they would get bombed to shreds....Anyone who is into military babble like me will laugh at the battles like crazy or cringe his face

Yeah Fury's long 76mm gun could penetrate the Tiger from hundreds of meters. If Bible was a better shot they could've been in and out with fewer casualties

“Better shot” he made would be kill shots like 3 to 4 times, there was plot plating on kraut’s tank.

@@dylfai I may be mistaken but I think the scene shows the 75mm Shermans’ shots bouncing while all of Bible’s shots miss except for the two mobility kill shots.
