FURY was a Sherman M4A2 tank. Due to its armor and firepower a German "Tiger" tank could easily hold its own vs 10 Sherman tanks. The Sherman was a medium tank weighed about 35 tons, thin armor and small caliber main gun (75mm). Amercian Armed Forces decided to go with the medium tank because they could produce them cheaper and in greater numbers faster. US manufactured almost 50,000 Shermans through the war. They figured they would make enough that they would just overwhelm the enemy. It was a death trap for most crews. The Tiger on the other hand was a beast. It weighed 60 tons and had an (88mm) main gun that would pierce the Sherman tank armor easily, but Germany could only build 1300 of them. *Great historical item to notice is the Shermans with tree trunks tied to the side of the tank as extra armor might stop 1 Tiger shell during a fight and give them a chance to battle longer.
The tree trunks weren't specifically protection from artillery; A good AP round would have punched through them like wet paper. The logs were intended as protection from shaped-charge weapons like the panzerfaust and panzerschreck, which work by firing a super-heated flame that burns through the armor, because wood doesn't melt.
Yeah, No. Fury had an upgraded 76 long barrel not the short 75 That scene was incredible silly because the 76 of Fury would have easily punched through the front plate of a Tiger H1.
Well...the real tank that served in Europe was the M4A3...the M4A2 was diesel powered and in US service only fought in the Pacific...the M4A2E8 76w HVSS that played Fury in the movie is supposedly one of the M4A2E8 76w tanks that the US sent to the USSR. Of course, there is very little difference between the M4A2 and the M4A3 on the outside, so it is an excellent stand in for the US late war Easy Eight. And with wet ammo stowage and many large and easy to open hatches, the Sherman was one of the safest tanks to serve on. The idea that the Sherman was a "death trap" comes from the incredibly skewed view of a single book that has been widely and definitively debunked.
15:00 as much as I understand the reason why Brad Pitt does what he does in that scene, that right there is, to me, the real meaning of "Just wait until you see... What a man can do to another"
Something viewers often overlook is that Norman has plenty of courage. Absolutely unprepared for combat, let alone tank service, he nevertheless climbs right back into Fury after seeing Red's face on the floor, and also after Emma's building was destroyed by artillery. It takes him some time to learn the rules, but he sticks with it as he adapts to the nightmare he's been thrust into.
15:00 The German prisoner was wearing an American GI jacket which is, under the rules of the Geneva Convention, I believe, the crime of perfidy. As such, he has forfeited all rights and protection as a POW. Norman thus didn't commit a war crime, technically speaking. 27:30 The Americans were using M4 Shermans. If you haven't watched it yet the movie 1917 is a WW1 movie and is pretty mind blowing. WW1 movies are pretty rare and it's one of the best war movies I've seen. I'm sure people will name better war movies but 1917 is REALLY unique in how it's shot. Only a few other movies were shot in a similar way.
Fun Fact:the Tiger that appears in the movie its the real deal! It was captured in Tunisia in 1943...being the last of its kind to still function! Also War Thunder has aircraft and ships but yeah fun game Ps:the Fury tank is a M4A3E8 Sherman with a 76mm gun!

My father served in Patton's 3rd Army 42-45 (687th FAB)....Thru Normandy, the battle of the hedgerows, Battle of the Bulge... One of his last duties in Europe was helping "clean up" Buchenwald concentration camp in the spring of 45....He brought back pictures he took there.... He also told the story of "Hitler Youth".....Toward the end of the war they captured a few Hitler youth and the American C.O. had been in a German POW camp and HATED Germans. So he put the youth against a chalk board with their noses in a chalk ring and would beat them with a riding crop if they stepped down.....Dad volunteered to watch the kids while the CO. could go eat, drink, etc....Dad would let the kids sit down every time the CO left....Dad just saw KIDS....Misguided kids.....

Both grenades landed on the floor of the tank not on the Sgt, the explosion was away from him and went up but the grenades shoot out loads of shrapnel and that would kill the Sgt.
I‘m from Germany and when I saw the movie the first time I was skeptical. I thought it would be just another American war film where the hero kills 100k Nazi-Zombies running directly in front of his gun. But I was surprised positively. This movie avoids the usual stereotypes. It presents a tank crew where each one has a different character. The war scenes show a lot of ugly realism. There is the scene were an SS-man was killed or the scene were women in a house are afraid of being raped. That is astonishing different from former US-war movies where the GIs are all cool cowboys and the villains are always arrogant brutes. The brutality of villains in cheap action movies gives the excuse for the hero to slay them on a revenge trip - and so making it possible for the audience to enjoy the violence without having a bad conscious. The Nazis used that trick for their propaganda films too. But that does not happen with „Fury“. The plot makes it more difficult to identificate yourself with the soldiers. The moralic question „what would I‘ve done in this situation“ appears. Therefore I like this movie. Only the final is falling back in the old story where hundreds of enemies are running direct in front of the machine-gun. But as a German I can condone this. It’s a classical showdown and the audience awaited this. It’s also a reminiscence to the movie „Sahara“ with Humphrey Bogart. Finally this movie shows for me a development of American moviemakers showing war more realistic. It fits to a situation where our western society had got very sobern about latest military engagements in Irak and Afgahnistan.

We used to watch this movie after table six Tank Gunnery it was a wild experience watching this while hearing the other tankers still shoot I love this movie so much it's the unofficial 19K movie
World War 1 ended on the 11th month on the 11th day on the 11th hour. I saw a man selling poppies stop a lady and ask if he could reposition her poppy. While doing so he told that lady she should wear the poppy on their right side; the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return, and the green represents the growth of crops and future prosperity the war so much took away. This is why the poppies are positioned at the 11th hour.

One of the best war films ever made! That war was brutal and nasty. The good guys were not all pious heroes and all the bad guys weren’t all terrible monsters. Everyone got dirty and did terrible things in that war. The individual soldier, sailor or airman doesn’t win a war they just survive. Also the depiction of the relationship between the crew is amazing! In the war cemeteries in Normandy and elsewhere in Europe you’ll come across a grave marker with 3 or 4 sometimes even 5 names! likely as not they were a tank crew. They live together, fight together, perhaps die together and if that happens they’ll be buried together.
I love Brad Pitt's work and a huge World War 2 historian. But there is just something wrong with this movie to me. It doesn't feel genuine like Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan. Hell even Enemy at the Gates is better with a British speaking Russian sniper. Even having the last original operating Tiger 1 tank. I don't know, I'm no gatekeeper.

I am a veteran and a WWII buff. I did not like this movie. It was not done well and not realistic. I couldn't relate with any of the characters and that is unusual for a veteran and a war movie.
As much as it sucks to say, war is just as much of humanity, as peace is. Im reminded of a correction in the translation of the commandments thou shall not kill really is thou shall not murder. This is because god would know there is times it is necessary as well as not. In a way you would have to defend your reasons, and hope they are not a excuse. You might find an interest in this. In my researching i have found a better way I think to the interpretation of adam and eve through the greek. It is said zeus tired of man killing other men flood the earth and when the waters drained he took all the evils and locked them away in a box. He then put man back on earth and gabe him the fire Prometheus sacrificed for and also made woman so man would have something to distract from his former evils and bestowed her with curiosity wonder, and passion. She was given a duty to protect the box from man openong it and returning to the world that which was inside, in which she also was not told the contents. Her name was Pandora and after sometime her curiosity got tje better of her and she opened the box rushing out she was to slow to seal the evils within all but hope resided in the box. And later that was released to. Could the box be an analogy of an apple on the tree of knowledge, the box hid certain truths from them. And interesting but the greek seen hope as a bad thing, ànd any honest person can acknowledge the doom they will ignore clouded by hope. The greek thought mankind would blind themselves from thebtruth with hope and doom themselves from salvation.

I think in WWII it was like 3-5 so 4 is the norm.

When Trumpets Fade (1998) is another WWII war drama set during the Hurtgen Forest Battle(s). It's a great but underrated movie.

A Panzer Faust is an Anti Tank Weapon. It was a pre cursor to the RPG.

One of the best war films ever made! That war was brutal and nasty. The good guys were not all pious heroes and all the bad guys weren’t all terrible monsters. Everyone got dirty and did terrible things in that war. The individual soldier, sailor or airman doesn’t win a war they just survive. Also the depiction of the relationship between the crew is amazing! In the war cemeteries in Normandy and elsewhere in Europe you’ll come across a grave marker with 3 or 4 sometimes even 5 names! likely as not they were a tank crew. They live together, fight together, perhaps die together and if that happens they’ll be buried together.

I love Brad Pitt's work and a huge World War 2 historian. But there is just something wrong with this movie to me. It doesn't feel genuine like Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan. Hell even Enemy at the Gates is better with a British speaking Russian sniper. Even having the last original operating Tiger 1 tank. I don't know, I'm no gatekeeper.
This movie wrecked me. People are fucking horrible to each other.

I am a veteran and a WWII buff. I did not like this movie. It was not done well and not realistic. I couldn't relate with any of the characters and that is unusual for a veteran and a war movie.

As much as it sucks to say, war is just as much of humanity, as peace is. Im reminded of a correction in the translation of the commandments thou shall not kill really is thou shall not murder. This is because god would know there is times it is necessary as well as not. In a way you would have to defend your reasons, and hope they are not a excuse. You might find an interest in this. In my researching i have found a better way I think to the interpretation of adam and eve through the greek. It is said zeus tired of man killing other men flood the earth and when the waters drained he took all the evils and locked them away in a box. He then put man back on earth and gabe him the fire Prometheus sacrificed for and also made woman so man would have something to distract from his former evils and bestowed her with curiosity wonder, and passion. She was given a duty to protect the box from man openong it and returning to the world that which was inside, in which she also was not told the contents. Her name was Pandora and after sometime her curiosity got tje better of her and she opened the box rushing out she was to slow to seal the evils within all but hope resided in the box. And later that was released to. Could the box be an analogy of an apple on the tree of knowledge, the box hid certain truths from them. And interesting but the greek seen hope as a bad thing, ànd any honest person can acknowledge the doom they will ignore clouded by hope. The greek thought mankind would blind themselves from thebtruth with hope and doom themselves from salvation.
