  • In this video I explain what this mysterious part is and why you should make sure you have it if you own a Porsche Boxster 986. Surprisingly, it's usually missing on almost all used Porsche Boxster 986 cars.

Great job! NOBODY has ever covered this in a video that I'm aware. I need them too!

Timely video. Just got my car back after getting the roof fixed and now that I understand how the roof works I noticed I could see the actual parts themselves. Couldn't remember if that was how it was before so when I checked a few videos on RUclips and noticed people were the same I figured that was how it was. A lot of words to say "I'm missing mine too!"

I got these things in a box of "extras" when I purchased the car and didn't know what they were!

Sweet! At least now you can install them and you didn’t have to buy them.

Of course I had to check my 2000 968 and my car has both sides.
Thanks for bringing these “mysterious” pieces to my attention.👍🏻

Wow. I never noticed that on mine. Do you have any idea why these are missing on most Boxsters?

Are they there on your Boxster?
My guess is the plastic gets brittle after 20 years and the tabs break when people take them off for one reason or another. Or maybe a mechanic takes them off and forgets to put them back in. I didn't have them for the first 6 months because I wasn't even aware they were supposed to be there. For how affordable they are, it's worth it to have them even to just keep leaves and such out of there where they can block the water drains under the clamshell.

@@Boxster986Fan They are missing on my 2004 986. I’ve had the car for coming up 5 years and thought I knew them pretty well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them on other people’s cars either. Strange. I presume it wasn’t just for the US market? I’m in the UK.

@@andyp6724 Hmmm. I doubt it was a US only thing as it seems like a universal part. I had a thought that maybe they added it as an option later but my friend who tipped me off that I was missing mine has a 1999 and has owned it since 2000 and he has them so I think it was something that shipped with the cars even the earlier years.
