My favorite line will always be "In a way, all of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!"
😆
Wherever there is injustice, you will find us. Wherever there is suffering, we'll be there. Wherever liberty is threatened, you will find…….The Three Amigos!
Line!
That sounds like they are the villains.
@@KaleidoAbridged That's what I always thought!
That is the most famous quote ever by Governor El Guapo. 🇲🇽
Arriba!!!
Thank God y’all gave this classic a try!
Makes me think they would like Clifford, or Seems Like Old Times, really any of the comedies with these guys in them that they haven't already seen
If you've had enough medical exams you'll recognize the end of the Amigos salute as a joke reference to a doctor telling you to turn your head and cough while he checks for hernias.
I cannot believe you guys DID NOT LAUGH your A's off at the funniest line in film history! "Excuse me, are you the singing bush?"
Let's be fair, it was easy to miss. It was always one of my favorites.
"Forget it. My guess is: This is the singing bush."
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. “Sew, very old one-sew like the wind!” That always cracks me up. 😂
Ahhhh ..there is a plethora of reasons to love this movie. Enjoy Amigos.
Jefe, what is a plethora?
Yes, yes, you have a plethora
@@adamskeans2515 a buch of things
So to actually be educational, the joke is even more funny when you understand that a "Plethora" is not a good thing. It means to have too much of something.
@@kitanotom36oy ve
Galaxy Quest took this concept along with others. This is a true classic 😂😂
For some reason my favourite part is when Lucky and Ned are trying to explain that they're actors to El Guapo by dancing "My little buttercup" briefly but Dusty has no piano in front of him so kind of half air pianos and half dances while making funny faces.
They looked like they had so much fun making this. A true classic and completely forgot Lorne Michaels was one of the writers
Classic flick!!! When Dusty kills the Invisible Swordsman in front of the Singing Bush, that killed me & l laugh so damn hard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have laughed throughout the years at the duel between the german and ned. Especially when the german squints and Ned’s eyes bulge out 😂
My generation you couldn't use the word 'plethora' without someone snickering because of this movie. I saw this as a kid on HBO, and used it in an essay in the 90s and more than one kid started laughing and called me out. "You just saw that movie, didn't you?"
*_I wouldn’t know about_** Tropic Thunder **_being inspired by_** The Three Amigos **_but I’ve always said that_** Galaxy Quest **_was_** Three Amigos: in Space!* 🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Well yeah Galaxy Quest would appear to be the most obvious work inspired by it. I was surprised they didn't mention it as they've seen it rather recently.
Galaxy Quest even gave the Three Amigos a nod when their look out very badly tries to do bird noises as a warning signal before being reminded that they all have electronic communication devices.
That’s totally what I thought too… the Three Amigos in Space. 😂
My mother was in a bad place in her life. I was still a child. She took me to this movie. Her and I alone. That is still my favorite part!
It's one of those movies where you love all the characters, El Guapo, Jefe, the Amigos. Even the bad guys are likeable.
The song and dance in the Cantina was definitely the funniest scene of the movie.
Favorite line.... "WHAT THE JELL IS A PLETHORA?!?!" Love this film so much.
I love this movie so much. Besides being freaking hilarious I have lots of nostalgic memories attached to it. This was a super fun reaction, guys.
Same. Me, my brother & one of my friends would do the Three Amigos Salute.
@jdnaz1288 I never had anyone to do it with, I just did it on my own. And in my head, I was Lucky Day. Curious, who were you?
@@anthonycameronnajera8471 I wanna say...Dusty.
F*ckin love this film! Not gonna lie tho, even as a child, I was like:
"So they killed a mythical magical hero? It's fine? Okay."😮
If you guys wants to see more Martin Short, I highly recommend "Innerspace" from 1987.
Great sci-fi comedy from the 80s.
12:25 LMAO the pain our boy Chris went trough watching the mishandled tortilla! 🤣
Hope you guys watch the Chevy Chase "Fletch" movies....my favourites. Both are so sarcastic and witty with a great story
Also, Spies Like Us, with Chevy and Dany Aykroyd, very funny 80's comedy.
Th parking meter scene in Fletch always cracked me up!
Yes!!!! Thank you. Great movies.
This was one of my fav movies when I was a kid. I watched it over and over. To the point where I can literally recite the whole movie. Line by line.
Me too! My brother and sister and I used to act out some of the scenes! 😂😂
My manager showed me this movie. We still sing the "Buttercup" song nearly every day, word for word when it gets busy. We're still looking for the last amigo.
I sing that song more than I probably should too. It comes to me like magic!
This movie was filmed less than 20 minutes from my home. When my brother came out, the very first thing he wanted to do was visit the movie set of Old Tucson.
So glad you enjoyed this movie!
In regards to My Little Buttercup: when I worked in a kitchen years ago, the sous chef and I would sing it at least once a shift, just to see who we could annoy or who would join in.
This is where everyone learns the meaning of "plethora". When I first saw this movie, my thought was that Chevy Chase was almost bored, Steve Martin was having a good time and Martin Short was so excited to be in a film with these two comic icons. Always love this movie! Great reaction!
Your first impressions seem to be pretty much correct. I find it really charming that Martin Short was so enthused, even somewhat starstruck about working with them, even though he’s no slouch in the comedy world himself. This was the start of the great and lasting friendship between Steve Martin and Martin Short. I don’t think either of them have any real animosity towards Chevy Chase, but they certainly don’t deny that, though he can be really funny, he has a tendency to be an asshole.
"My Blue Heaven" would be a great next Steve Martin movie!
I love that movie. So funny.
The unofficial Goodfellas sequel.
The movie that taught me to not where my suit pants until you're ready to walk out the door. Seriously.
The singing bush was voiced by singer/songwriter Randy Newman who also wrote the other songs in the film.
The movie that created a life long bromance/friendship for martin short and Steve martin 🤗😌
Each episode must now start with a hip thrust. 😂
I do love the scene were they get the money, look at each other then throw it back saying that justice is their reward.
You just can't fail with an ensemble like this. Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short rock it in this! Oh and I don't think Jon Lovitz was ever this thin either! 😛
Imagine how fast Ned was at his best with that prop gun. No wonder he seemed a god to the German pilot.
The singing bush is easily one of my favorite segments in anything ever.
More fun than the barber shop quartet singing busts from The Haunted Mansion for sure!
It's interesting you saw this as being inspiration for Tropical Thunder. While watching your reaction, I realized this is literally the plot of Galaxy Quest. I wonder how many other films took inspiration from this movie besides those two.
*Tropic
I would think there is almost no doubt that Tropic Thunder was written with some inspiration from this movie. Three Amigos was huge for people around my age, and I'm sure for Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux as well. It didn't do well in cinemas, but it became a classic not too many years after.
Both Tropic Thunder and Galaxy Quest. In fact, Galaxy Quest is a little closer to The Three Amigos than Tropic Thunder because the aliens thought that the actors were actually their characters from their TV show.
A bugs life, too. The basic premise is taken from the Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven.
@@waylander1978 not quite. In The Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven, the villagers set out to hire seven mercenaries to protect them and that’s what they get. There’s no misunderstanding, mistaken identity, or confusing movies or TV shows with real life.
A better example of a comedic version of The Seven Samurai would be The Mystery Men. It’s the same story, only with superheroes, but it still manages to keep all of the same tropes as Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven. And it’s funny.
Still, Robert Downey Jr. did get nominated for the Oscar's Best Supporting Actor before he lost it to Heath Ledger.
@Thundarr100 OK, perhaps I should have clarified. The premise of the harassed village calling for heroes came from Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven, but yes, there have been a few comedic homages to them using the same basic premise but with a mistake identity twist. Three Amigos, I think, was the first?
I forgot how funny this movie is. What a great cast.
For those of us comedy geeks who grew up in the 70s, this was extra fun, as it had two major guys from SNL and the new Sixth Man from SCTV in Martin Short. We just felt good seeing them all on the screen.
Forgot about how hilarious this film is 😂
Patrice Martinez who played Carmen was also Miss Argentina in beetlejuice. My first crush haha
That was such a small role. i think she was people´s crush more from 90´s Zorro, her being the 4th most important role there.
@@embran8486she was in zorro with bandearas and zeta jones?
@@puzzled_pelican3626 No, no. 90´s tv series. Unlike the Disney one they had a love interest for zorro which was tavern owner Victoria Escalante played by Martinez. Also IMO best Diego. Worth checking out. It is on RUclips.
I already know we have similar senses of humor, but this movie solidifies it. The jokes you laugh hardest at and express appreciation for are usually my absolute favorite parts of the movie, this one included. You just may have scored a new patreon member.
Another movie I grew up on! My whole family LOVES it.
My parents are native Spanish speakers but they didn’t teach us kids. I didn’t realize until my late teens El Guapo means “the Handsome one” and now I can’t look at Alfonso Arau without laughing cause El Guapo is so dang gross here. And then even later I got the joke “do you know what foreplay is? No? good neither does El Guapo.” And I giggle so dang much.
This movie was amazing as a kid and just gets funnier as I get older.
Edit: deserts can get really cold sometimes lol. El Guapo would indeed need a sweater occasionally 😂
To this day, "you son of a motherless goat" is a beloved insult in our family. This movie is a staple XD
funny thing is, I swear I've heard my grandmother call someone that many years ago lol.
Thank you for reacting to this one! I’m a Patreon member and watched the whole reaction (which was awesome) and I had my mom watch the RUclips reaction with me.
First of all, this movie is like one of my and my family’s favorites growing up. I think I was like 10 when this came out. My brother used to watch this movie every single day after school ( I knew word for word, scene to scene, etc). The “Lips would be fine” joke, as a kid, I so didn’t get that joke lol 😂
My family and I quote lines from this movie. “It’s a sweater!” Or “Would you say I have a Plethora of Piñatas?” Lmao 🤣
And when I was a kid, when I first watched The Three Amigos, I forgot this but my mom reminded me that I cried at the end of the movie because El Guapo died on his bday and didn’t get to wear his new sweater 😂🤷🏻♀️
This is truly underrated movie and thank you again for this! You made my day ❤
Dear Patreon member: Please request "The Jerk" I think the guys will be laughing out of their seats.
Steve Martin used to order banjo stuff from the music store where I worked (Janet Davis Music) until it went out of business. One time, on his packing slip, I wrote "!!Viva los AMIGOS!!" He probably doesn't have to open his own mail, but I like to think that he saw it.
this entire movie is a plethora of fun
Fun fact, the female lead, Patrice Martinez, was also in Beetlejuice as Miss Argentina, Receptionist.
Ned's girlfriend at the end was Playmate of the Month in June 1986. 😂😂😂
This has a special place in my heart since I watched it as a kid. I learned a lot about it later on in college when we went over it in a class about cinema and cinema history. Good shit.
The lassoo tricks were actually done by Steve Martin himself, he learned them as a kid working in a magic shop.
I had a savage crush on Martin Short growing up because of this movie. He looks amazing, like ageless. Steve Martin also looks wonderful! L.A. Story is a great Steve Martin flick. ❤
LA Story is one of my favorite movies
I'll have a half-double, decaffeinated half-caf... with a twist of lemon!
Love you guys and this reaction. And of course it gets cold enough for a sweater in México. It even snows in parts of the country. ☺️ Keep up the good work!
Ah a childhood favorite movie thanks for reacting to it guys❤
One of my all time favorite comedies.
You don't need just one theme song, you need a plethora of theme songs.
It's such a fun movie....
Steve, Cheavy & Martin are such a great combination of superstars from the 80s.
Innerspace is a Martin Short film that you should definitely check out.
This movie was ahead of its time, and still hilarious today
Love this movie. 100% pure silliness.
There was a time, when this movie was very big. These days, it's a bit obscure, and it tends to be overlooked. It's a shame that many today have never experienced SNL, when Steve Martin & Chevy Chase were big parts. There were others too. There was Bill Murray & Dan Aykroyd, that gave us Ghostbusters. I would not be surprised at all, if this film had been at least one of the inspirations of Tropic Thunder. It's interesting how all the villains ended up being eliminated - like was pointed out. It's especially rare for a comedy movie. What I especially appreciate is that they committed to Ned being a crack shot, and taking out the gunfighter. Normally, they will allow one good shot, then play it off as an accident. I look forward to seeing what sort of theme song you come up with ♫ ...Whatcha gonna do? OctoKrool! ♫
Oh, no way!
I love this movie!
Always happy to see others discovering it. 🙂
I asked Chat GPT to write a theme song for you.
(Verse 1)
Step into the world of Octokrool,
Two brothers sharp, breaking every rule.
Reacting to movies with a twist of wit,
Sarcasm their weapon, they never quit.
(Pre-Chorus)
They're dressed to impress, oh what a sight,
Mentioning their clothes with all their might.
In a world of films, they carve their niche,
With humor and charm, they bewitch and bewilder.
(Chorus)
Octokrool, Octokrool, masters of the screen,
Sarcasm and laughter, a dynamic routine.
From action to romance, all genres they duel,
Brothers united, welcome to Octokrool!
(Verse 2)
Characters unfold, stories unravel,
Octokrool's commentary, a comedic marvel.
Their banter is gold, reactions so true,
Sharing their thoughts, a hilarious view.
(Pre-Chorus)
Styled to the nines, they stand so cool,
Fashion forward, breaking every rule.
In a world of films, they carve their niche,
With humor and charm, they bewitch and bewilder.
(Chorus)
Octokrool, Octokrool, rulers of satire,
In a realm of celluloid, they never tire.
From laughter to insight, they play the fool,
Brothers on screen, presenting Octokrool!
(Bridge)
Sarcasm's their game, but hearts of gold,
Two brothers' bond, a story to be told.
Through silver screens, their charisma takes flight,
Octokrool's the channel, shining so bright.
(Pre-Chorus)
Dapper and dashing, they break the mold,
Clothes and comments, a tale to be told.
In a world of films, they carve their niche,
With humor and charm, they bewitch and bewilder.
(Chorus)
Octokrool, Octokrool, masters of their trade,
In laughter and satire, a crusade.
With popcorn in hand, they ridicule,
Brothers on screen, presenting Octokrool!
(Outro)
So subscribe to the channel, don't delay,
Octokrool's journey, in every display.
Two brothers reacting, their humor cruel,
Enter their realm, embrace Octokrool!
This movie is so silly and I love it. Forgot all about this one. Thanks for bringing it back
This was one of my favorite films as a kid.
I saw this on opening day in the theaters. I was in 4th grade. The 80's were awesome
Every time I see a movie with Chevy Chase in it, I'm reminded of another really old movie he was in with Dan Ackroid called "Spies Like Us." I feel like it has a very similar kind of humor to this. And I've never seen anyone react to it. You guys should add it to your list.
There are several movies that follow this plotline, "Actors not realizing that they are being hired to do a real job" My favorite is "They Call Me Bruce" with Bruce Campbell. Hilarious.
Your intro clip is literally my favorite line of all time. Classic
Tropic Thunder was inspired by Three Amigos. Larry the Cable Guy made a version of Three Amigos called "Delta Farce" There is a movie called "Bowfinger" (starring Steven Martin and Eddie Murphy) that is the neighborhood of idea of Three Amigos.
Curtis's faces of bewilderment are my biggest motivations to watch these reactions. 🤣🤣🤣
I named my beagle Buttercup after I watched this movie.
We have a cat named Buttercup and I have sung the song to her a few times
Comparing this to tropic thunder is genius!
Instant click!! Certified classic!! *Cough*😂😂
Comedy classic with three comedic legends.
I love that you guys got a lot of laughs from this one 😂 it's a classic
33:39 They basically were owned by the studio. Back then with the "star system" you worked for one studio. If the studio wanted you to make a film you didn't like, too bad. It was terrible, the studio often gave them new names and new backgrounds, controlled their lives. Very much how Japanese idols are today.
I grew up with this movie, great flick!
I almost teared up when I saw Phil Hartmann :'(
RIP - Phil
Fun fact: parts of this movie were filmed on a movie studio near the reservation I live on, and some extras are native american.
Glad it gave jobs to our indigenous bros. Rather have a native play us than an Italian or spaniard in brown face. At least we r related, cousins.
Although Three Amigos took the serious premise of the iconic Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, which inspired the western The Magnificent Seven, to hilarious height, it is wild.
One of the many reasons why I adore you guys is the fact that you're both animal lovers; you guys react the same way I do when it comes to any animal getting hurt or killed in films lol.
One of my all-time favorite comedy western films. Funny Movie.
I HAVE A PLETHORA OF TACOS
Another funny one is Three Fugitives with Martin Short and Nick Nolte. It’s silly but funny. But if you guys like the chemistry of Steve Martin and Martin Short, please watch the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. Season 3 just dropped but it’s easy to binge so you can catch up fast.
Martin Short also has a supporting role in Steve Martin's remake* of "Father of the Bride" and its sequel.
(*It was originally a Spencer Tracy film from 1950)
I liked the dynamic between the Amigos and the female romantic interests. Dusty's girl is almost throwing herself at him, and he is ambivalent. Lucky's girl is the female lead, but we know Carmen is his girl. Then, Ned pulls out a supermodel at the end. It's such a fun movie. ☺️
"Three Amigos" ... "Tropic Thunder" ... and "Galaxy Quest" ... the actors to real life trifecta
Thanks! Regarding the Amigo Salute: I never had to go through it myself, but they used to, and maybe still do check for hernia in athletes by placing pressure behind the scrotum and asking the athlete to turn his head and cough. I think that is the joke.
When I was nine years old this was on at a dollar theater down the road from our house. My brother and I watched it over and over again. So dumb, but so fun.
9:00 - I watch this as a kid and I'm still waiting to use that line on some people "Some friends of mine will be coming here.....I hope you will show them more courtesy than you have shown me. They aren't as kind-hearted as I am"
a truly stupendous _Galaxy Quest_ western
One of my favorites by far
“ what is happening today are gringos falling from the sky’s?” -El Guapo -
😅😅😅
I'm all for you guys having a theme song, as long as you include the cough. 😎
The plot is also inspired by Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, and a Bug's Life. Outcasts hired to defend a village against criminals.
"El Guapo" in Spanish is to call a man "Handsome" - The Handsome (man). This was so cheesy, but so well done, all at once. One of Steve Martin's most underrated great films was PARENTHOOD (Universal Pictures, 1989), great writers, director and an all star cast.
You guys should watch Three Fugitives starring Martin Short and Nick Nolte. Innerspace with Martin Short and Dennis Quid is also hilarious.
Dennis Quaid
Fun fact Steve Martin actually does the rope trick, he is very skilled at doing that kinda stuff.
Galaxy Quest is another film with the same premise… but even better.
*RIP Patrice Martinez.* Carmen from Three Amigos.
This is such a stupid funny movie, def a rainy day film for me and my dad, and the invisible swordsman scene always gets me, so seeing u guys lose it there too was great
Best reaction channel for taking the time to do this classic!
21:11 I've seen a few different reactions to this film, and I really love that the constant so far has been everyone has absolutely lost it over this scene. Perfect comedic moment!
